Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the translation of the poem chosen from the book: L'Allegria of Giuseppe Ungaretti, published in 1931. Giuseppe Ungaretti, one of the most famous Italian poets, had a high reputation in the world. His works are translated in many languages, meanwhile there are very few poems translated in Chinese. The translation literature has a long history in China and has a very important status, and the Italian literature is magnificent, but it has not been paid the corresponding attention by the Chinese readers because of many reasons, but mainly because the linguistic obstacle.

Full text
Abstract:
I huvudsak studeras den animerade tv-serien Adventure Times antagonist - The Lich.
From a background in the principles of caricatures, this paper studies about how the allegory of evil is communicated in a character design’s visual attributes. Primarily the animated cartoon series Adventure Time’s antagonist - The Lich – is studied. Structural semiotics is used to view the character from within an intertwined context, containing of the series’ narrative, character design and evil as an allegory to subsequently determine what signs are used to communicate evil. The psychological concept of Jungian archetypes are used to explain the allegory of evil and The Lich is contrasted with other character examples of popular fiction. A discussion is brought fourth how allegory is communicated like metaphors through The Lich’s character design. By putting metaphors that derived from signs together, the communication can transcend to an allegorical communication where only the connection between signs per se transmits an allegorical message.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the late 70s, when one begins to wonder about the historical and political changes regarding the two “halves” of Europe, the crisis of the communist bloc and the end of ideology, the reference to Modernity is inevitable: the crisis of modernity is discussed – a modernity accomplished or unaccomplished. How does the literary paradigm change in this “time of mutation”? How is it expressed the search for meaning in the contemporary literature? We are the witnesses, in the literary scene, of the subject’s return and of the anthropological need of narration (the function of the narrator as a mediator of others’ stories). Through the narration of life stories, “fragmented” destinies, reinvented biographies, we can see the intention of resurrecting the “marginalia”, the traces forgotten by history: we try to give meaning to a life or to grasp a life by meaning, we try to represent the quest for a metaphysical centre through the character reliving the conflict and the dissociation between “soul and forms”. The authors use the myth: we will ask the new meaning of the representation of myth in these stories as an allegorical interpretation of contemporary and a new relationship to time; we will question its use as empty and enigmatic allegory

Abstract:
The intention of this essay is to inquire into the (re-)constitution of gendered/sexed identities in a gothicistic discourse. The used material is the work Atlantica, chapter 5, vol. 2, written by the Swedish historian/Medical professor Olof Rudbeck. I have chosen this chapter for its description of mythological characters relationship with the earth, the sun and the moon. A description based on a concept of strength and reproduction as gendered characteristics. How does gendered subjects positions appear in Rudbecks rewriting of mythology? How can these gendered positions transcend and what are the limits of this transcendence? How can this transcendence be understood in the text? I have used Judith Butlers theories about performativity, gender as a subjection that makes us more or less understandable as humans, constituted by structural frames. I have also used Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffes discourse analysis, both as a theory and a method, to located subjects positions as “the warrior” and ”the reproduction/parenting”. The warrior is coded by a nationalistic thought of a gothic inheritance, a position that is framed with constituted masculinity. Characters described as female can take this position but will still be understood as female. Characters describes as males that fail to stay in this position transcend into a position as females. This transcendence is by Rudbeck described with the term “hermaphrodite” as an allegorical description rather than an actual position.

De, Gruttola Raissa <1989&gt. ""And the word became Chinese" : Gabriele Allegra and the Chinese catholic Bible: history, process, and translation analysis." Doctoral thesis, Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10579/10304.

Full text
Abstract:
The presence of Christianity in China dates back to the thirteenth century, though, the first complete Catholic Bible in Chinese was published and distributed only in 1968. This version was written by an Italian Franciscan friar, Gabriele Allegra (1907-1976) and a team of Chinese and European collaborators. It was translated between 1935 and 1968, in Beijing and Hong Kong and is known as Sigao Shengjing. Today, the Sigao Shengjing is still the Chinese version used in liturgy and in the official documents of the Chinese speaking Catholics, and it is commonly acknowledged as a good translation. Nevertheless, this translation has hardly been investigated to date. The aim of this dissertation is that of exploring the translation process of the Sigao Shengjing in the historical context in which it was set and to describe the translation method followed. Furthermore, through the textual analysis of chosen passages, the research purpose is to verify to what extent the translation principles were held, and to consider the validity of the Sigao Shengjing today. In order to explore these issues, after a brief review of the existing literature on the topic, the historical background of the first half of the twenty century is presented, taking into account both the history of the Catholic Church in China, and the different attitudes towards biblical translation adopted by the Catholic hierarchies. The life and works of Gabriele Allegra, his team, and the biblical research institute founded in 1945, are exposed through the analysis of the data collected from published and unpublished autograph documents of the friar, kept in an archive in Italy. The textual analysis considers two different editions of the Gospel of John (1957 and 1968), chosen due to the high amount of material personally written by Allegra on it. Appendices with the reproduction of the archive material and the comparison tables support the discussion and analysis of the topic. The concluding account of the contemporary scene of Catholic translations of the Bible in Chinese confirms the importance of the version analyzed and provides input for further research.

le, Clercq Anton, and Kristoffer Almroth. "Comparison of Rendering Performance Between Multimedia Libraries Allegro, SDL and SFML."

Full text
Abstract:
In this report the rendering performances of the multimedia libraries Allegro, SDL and SFML have been compared. Highest performance is achieved by writing code directly to the low level graphical APIs, though it requires much more work than using the multimedia libraries graphical functions built on one of these graphical APIs. Thus it is common to use a multimedia library or similar for visualization tasks. The total number of frames rendered in one second was counted for static, alpha blended, rotating, and moving images in each library. Every test was run with few to very many images, and the programs were tested on six different computers: three laptops with integrated GPUs and low power dual core CPUs, and three desktop computers with external GPUs and quad core CPUs with unlocked clock rate. Allegro performed best of the three on laptops when the image load was very high, but fell behind by up to 50% in all other cases. SDL had the strongest performance on desktop computers, especially when rendering very many images, making it a prime candidate for high load graphical applications on desktops. SFML performed best overall, making it the best choice when targeting a wide range of different machines.

Abstract:

Keating, Corland G. "Validating the OCTAVE Allegro Information Systems Risk Assessment Methodology| A Case Study." Thesis, Nova Southeastern University, 2014. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3611814.

Full text
Abstract:

An information system (IS) risk assessment is an important part of any successful security management strategy. Risk assessments help organizations to identify mission-critical IS assets and prioritize risk mitigation efforts. Many risk assessment methodologies, however, are complex and can only be completed successfully by highly qualified and experienced security experts. Small-sized organizations, including small-sized colleges and universities, due to their financial constraints and lack of IS security expertise, are challenged to conduct a risk assessment. Therefore, most small-sized colleges and universities do not perform IS risk assessments, which leaves the institution's data vulnerable to security incursions. The negative consequences of a security breach at these institutions can include a decline in the institution's reputation, loss of financial revenue, and exposure to lawsuits.

The goal of this research is to address the challenge of conducting IS risk assessments in small-sized colleges and universities by validating the use of the Operationally Critical Threat, Asset, and Vulnerability Evaluation (OCTAVE) Allegro risk assessment methodology at a small-sized university. OCTAVE Allegro is a streamlined risk assessment method created by Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute. OCTAVE Allegro has the ability to provide robust risk assessment results, with a relatively small investment in time and resources, even for those organizations that do not have extensive risk management expertise.

The successful use of OCTAVE Allegro was validated using a case study that documented the process and outcome of conducting a risk assessment at George Fox University (GFU), a small-sized, private university located in Newberg, Oregon. GFU has the typical constraints of other small-sized universities; it has a relatively small information technology staff with limited expertise in conducting IS risk assessments and lacks a dedicated IS risk manager. Nevertheless, OCTAVE Allegro was relatively easy for GFU staff to understand, provided GFU with the ability to document the security requirements of their IS assets, helped to identify and evaluate IS security concerns, and provided an objective way to prioritize IS security projects. Thus, this research validates that OCTAVE Allegro is an appropriate and effective IS risk assessment method for small-sized colleges and universities.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Throughout centuries of great classical music, many viola compositions have been crafted from a wealth of literature for instruments of similar range. Clarinet, violin, and cello concerti and ensemble literature often adapt into challenging literature for the viola. In November 2009, Oxford Music Publishing gave me permission to transcribe and perform the Prelude, Allegro, and Pastorale by Rebecca Clarke in New York's famed Carnegie Hall - Weill Recital Hall. This dissertation explains the process by which I transcribed the Prelude, Allegro, and Pastorale from an original Bb-clarinet/viola duo, to a new arrangement for two violas (approved by Oxford Music Press arrangement license #7007940), and discusses challenges faced throughout the transcription process.

COUTURIER, STOREY FRANCOISE. Nice, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997NICE2019.

Full text
Abstract:
This piece of research aims at analysing the notion of allegory in the work of two anglo-saxon writers, margaret atwood, a canadian, and angela carter, an englishwoman (who died in 1990). I define the term of allegory as follows: it consists in the balance of two forces, the didactic (the most dogmatic part of a work, the teaching that the author wishes to transmit to the reader through his work of fiction), and fantasy (a notion that brings together all imaginary discourses, such as the fantastic, the marvellous, science-fiction, utopia/dystopia, the gothic, etc. ). The first part of the dissertation analyses allegory as an ambivalent discourse, often rejected by critics but truly present in most works of literature. In this part the link between allegory and feminism is also put under scrutiny. Indeed, we may wonder why a great majority of texts written by women often has an allegorical dimension, dissimulating behind fantasy a polemical discourse of a political, sexual or social nature. The second part analyses the work of margaret atwood in relation to allegory, in particular through two novels, surfacing and the handmaid's tale. Her poems are also taken in consideration. The third and last part studies the work of angela carter, in particular through her short stories and five novels that illustrate the evolution of her thought around allegory: the infernal desire machines of doctor hoffman, the passion of new eve, nights at the circus, heroes and villains, and her last novel wise children

Abstract:

Abstract:
Cybersecurity is currently an important and relevant issue, as more and more industries are taking advantage of the accessibility of storing information online. To create a secure system one must know the potential risks and attacks on that system, making risk analysis a very potent tool. In this study, we performed such an analysis using the risk analysis method OCTAVE Allegro on a company providing a cloud-based service to find out what risks a cloud service provider might be exposed to, and the usefulness of said risk analysis method in this circumstance. We found that OCTAVE Allegro is suitable to use on smaller companies and applicable to cloud services, and the most severe risks identified were connected to leakage of client data with a consequence of damaging the company's reputation. Common areas of concern for these risks were third parties hacking the cloud server or other company systems to gain access to sensitive information. Such risks will likely be found at any company providing a cloud service that manages sensitive data, increasing the importance of risk analysis at these companies.
