Full textBackground: Patient safety is jeopardizing healthcare, one in ten patients suffering due to medical errors could have been avoided if the appropriate actions had been taken. All nursing staff have a shared responsibility to contribute to proper and safe care but it is the nurses who have full responsibility over the patients. Patient safety should be promoted through the patient safety law and the nurse’s six core qualifications. Purpose: The aim was to understand the nurse’s perception of patient safety related to the number of nursing staff. Method: A literature review with an inductive approach was performed. Results: The study is based on ten scientific articles which led to four categories: time affect’s patient safety, the competence of the nurse affects patient safety, work environment affect patient safety and the health of the nurse is affected by defective patient safety. It was found in the result that the nurse’s perception of patient safety is adverse in the context of staffing. The nurse’s perceived time as a major contributing factor to absent care that resulted in poorer patient safety. Conclusion: It is necessary that the appropriate number of nursing staff is present during care. The staff needs to feel safe and secure in their work in order to offer good patient safety. More research is needed in this area to enable a change in patient safety.

Full textBackground: Trust poses expectations that the nurse in his profession should be credible to all patients. Trust in nursing provides the potential for developing a relationship between nurse and patient in which the nurse has a greater opportunity to provide important information that can be crucial to the patient's health. Aim: To describe patients' experiences of trusting the nurse. Method: The study was conducted as a general literature review with systematic searches where the result is based on 10 scientific articles. Data processing resulted in four categories that highlight what the patient experiences is trusting the nurse; To be seen, to get time, to be respected and to be heard. Results: The result shows that the patient experiences trust when being seen, which can help the patient feel safe and feel involved in his or her own care. By getting time, the patient can feel that the nurse understands that trust can not be stressed. When the patient feels respected by the nurse, he experiences more equality, which makes the patient feel important. When the patient feels that they are heard, the relationship between them is deepened and the patient perceived that the relationship was mutual. Conclusion: Trust in the nurse may be the basis for the patient's perception of care. This can help the patient gain a clearer understanding of the nursing care performed by the nurse. Further research on the patient's experience of trust is important and could contribute to development in health care.

Full textNurses meet patients with stomas in both inpatient and outpatient care. Obtaining a stoma can be traumatic and entails a new life situation for the individual. The study was conducted as a general literature study with inductive approach. The purpose of the study was to illuminate the ostomy-operated patient experiences of support from nurses. The result was based on 10 scientific articles and resulted in two categories: beneficial support and lack of support. The patients felt that information was important in order to adapt to the new life situation, however, many patients felt that the information provided was insufficient. Follow-up from the nurse after discharge was experienced as positive by the patients, it provided feelings of security. However, the patients called for more emotional support as it was felt that the nurses focused more on the practical support. Some patients also experienced a lack of personcentered care. Obtaining support from a professional nurse led to feelings of fear and uncertainty disappearing. Not having access to a professional nurse was considered a disadvantage in the recovery. The result shows that nurses’ knowledge and skills regarding ostomy need to be increased in order for patients to receive the support they need.

Full textBackground: Occupational stress is a factor that can be triggered within the work, as the workplace does not have the right conditions for the care staff. This is common in emergency care related to the nurse's responsibility, which justifies the importance of identifying approaches to dealing with this issue. Aim: To describe how nurses in emergency care experience occupational stress and how it handles. Method: A general literature review was designed and data were analyzed based on a thematic analysis of ten original articles with a qualitative approach. Results: The results report the nurse's impact of stress and management of this where two themes were formulated; experiences and strategies. Categories that were formulated where workload, health consequences, emotional experiences, interprofessional teamwork, good work environment and motivation within the work group. Conclusion: The nurse is affected by occupational stress as a result of various factors such as overcrowding of patients and lack of time. This can be handled based on problem-focused strategies, which facilitates the daily work in the emergency care. Implications: The authors further recommend research with regards to promoting the health of nurses and safe care.
