Abstract:
Abstract Two cost allocation techniques, "separable costs-remaining benefits" and the "simple Shapley value," are discussed and evaluated. The evaluation is performed relative to basic principles of cost allocation: that separable costs should be covered and that allocations should not exceed respective benefits. Two examples demonstrate that neither allocation technique is always consistent with the principles. The paper also discusses conditions under which each technique conforms to the principles, in part and in full. West. J. Appl. For. 2(2):45-48, April 1987.

AbstractAdaptive survey designs can be used to allocate sample elements to alternative data collection protocols in order to achieve a desired balance between some quality measure and survey costs. We compare four alternative methods for allocating sample elements to one of two data collection protocols. The methods differ in terms of the quality measure that they aim to optimize: response rate, R-indicator, coefficient of variation of the participation propensities, or effective sample size. Costs are also compared for a range of sample sizes. The data collection protocols considered are CAPI

The method of costs allocation for equipment maintenance and operation has been analyzed. It is especially important to properly allocate costs by type of product at those industrial enterprises, where a complex range of products is produced as a result of a single production process. The main method for calculating the product cost unit in industry is calculating the product cost and expense budget. Differentiated methods should be used in allocating indirect costs between particular products or types of products, depending on the nature of a cost, its economic nature, and its connection with

This study is based on the strategic and logistical challenges of having a complex distribution network, which can make it difficult to get a holistic view over the distribution costs. The costs are often aggregated for many products, which makes it challenging to use as decision support on a product level. Many companies lack a tool to handle this complexity, since the costs and profitability varies between the channels and intermediaries used. This makes it problematic to determine the profitability on a product level. In the different parts of the distribution chain, there are elements that

Electricity Supply Industries world-wide are undergoing major structural changes with the fundamental objective of introducing competition and choice in electricity supply in the belief that this will lead to lower electricity prices and improved quality of service. A key feature of the emerging industry structure is the separation of the generation, transmission, distribution and retail (supply) segments of the electric energy business into autonomous business units. Prices in the generation and supply segments are determined through suitable market mechanisms, whereas those in the monopoly s

This thesis is devoted to the asset allocation and portfolio optimization with small transaction costs. Three topics are studied. The first and second topics are on asset allocation problems with purely proportional transaction cost and strictly positive transaction cost, respectively. The fundamental objective is to keep the asset portfolio close to a target portfolio and in the meantime to reduce the trading cost in doing so. For each problem, we derive the quasi-variational inequality and prove a verification theorem giving sufficient conditions for a QVI solution to be the value function.

We show how the ex ante incorporation of transaction costs shifts optimal portfolios towards regularized versions of efficient allocations. The regulatory effect of transaction costs is studied in an econometric setting incorporating parameter uncertainty and optimally combining predictive distributions resulting from high-frequency and low-frequency data.
