Abstract:

The variation of antioxidant activity of aloe vera under the stress of cadmium with different concentration was studied. The scavenging capacity of potted aloe vera to •OH and O2- • was determined and the effects of cadmium pollution on the antioxidant activity of aloe vera were evaluated using flow injection chemiluminescence methods. The results showed that, at low cadmium pollution level, the antioxidant activity of aloe vera increased with the increase of cadmium content in aloe vera body; while at high cadmium pollution level, the antioxidant activity of aloe vera decreased with the increase of cadmium content. This indicated that low cadmium could stimulate the self-protection system of aloe vera, resulting in a increase in the antioxidant activity. high cadmium would damage aloe self-defendend system, leading to the decrease in antioxidant activity.

Abstract Aloe vera gel is considered necessary for further processing into high-value products like nano powder due to its complex but easily damaged nutrients. Aloe vera nanopowder is one solution to increase the properties and resistance of Aloe vera so that it can be used for nanotechnology applications, such as thin coatings. In this study, natural gel Aloe vera was converted into Aloe vera powder by adding a concentration of 0.3% Tween 80 and 15% maltodextrin. This method is called the Foam-mat drying method. Using High Energy Milling (HEM-E3D), the powder was mashed for five hours to achieve nanoscale size. The phase of the aloe vera nanopowder was determined by XRD analysis. The peaks 20, which were at an angle of 20°, indicated that the production of the Aloe vera nanopowder was successful. The angle of 20° showed the angle for organic materials and Aloe vera nanopowder is ready to be applied for the fabrication of hydrophobic materials.

Abstract:
In recent years, the market for minimally processed fruit has increased. Fresh-cut fruits are characterized by a short shelf life due to the processing phases that accelerate the ripening courses. The aim of this work is to analyze the effect on the quality of fresh-cut Hayward kiwis of three different edible coatings based on (1) Aloe vera gel, (2) Aloe vera gel + hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and (3) Aloe vera gel + lemon essential oil. Fruit firmness, weight loss, color, soluble solids content, titratable acidity, microbial load and sensory analysis were evaluated as fresh after 2, 4, 7 and 10 days. Aloe vera gel and Aloe vera gel + lemon essential oil maintained the best values, as they acted as a barrier to gas exchange and further reduced the microbial load. These results were confirmed by sensory analysis: Aloe vera gel + hydroxypropyl methylcellulose does not alter the natural taste of kiwi slices, Aloe vera gel + lemon essential oil gives the characteristic taste of lemon essential oil and Aloe vera gel gives an herbaceous taste. The Aloe vera gel, in combination with these additives, maintains the ability to preserve the quality of fresh-cut kiwifruit.

Abstract:
Aloe Vera has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-viral, and anti-microbial properties. It has been demonstrated that Aloe Vera use could accelerate healing of burn injuries in rats. The current study evaluates the effects of Aloe Vera gel and Aloe Vera leaf pulp extract (LPE) alone and together with silver sulfadiazine on third degree burn wound injuries in rats. In an experimental study, 70 male Wistar rats weighing 200–250 g were divided into 7 groups to receive topical placebo, silver sulfadiazine, Aloe Vera gel, Aloe Vera LPE and their combination. Treatment results were evaluated according to wound healing on days 3, 10, and 21 and according to pathologic findings on day 21. Wound size differed significantly between groups on day 3 (p= 0.001), day 10 (p= 0.001), and day 21 (p= 0.001). The study's findings indicate that Aloe Vera gel alone, compared to LPE, and the combination of Aloe Vera gel or LPE with silver sulfadiazine had a more significant reduction in wound size. The combined treatment of Aloe Vera LPE and silver sulfadiazine has shown several advantages, including enhanced epithelialization and reduced cell infiltration, granulation tissue formation, and vascularization in the treatment of burns. However, additional research is necessary to determine the most effective treatment for third-degree burns.

Abstract:
Aloe vera is a well-known succulent plant and it is often used to moisturise and sooth the skin. In this study, Aloe vera is incorporated into natural soap to investigate the antibacterial properties and cytotoxicity of the samples. The antibacterial properties of the Aloe vera sample was determined by performing zone inhibition and bacterial colony test on Escherichia coli (E. coli). The cell viability test was conducted with human skin fibroblast cells through MTT assay. The Aloe vera samples showed antibacterial properties through the presence of inhibition zones and in the bacterial colony analysis, the Aloe vera samples have inhibitory effect against E. coli with a bacterial retardation percentage of 31.97±0.90%. The cell viability percentage of 95.30±11.16% was found on the Aloe vera sample with normal cell morphology. These results testified that the Aloe vera sample was biocompatible and possessed antibacterial properties which is suitable to be incorporated in skin products.

Abstract:
AbstractProhibition of application of antibiotic growth promoters in broiler chicken diets has resulted in increased use of herbs as natural additives in broiler feeds over the recent years. Researchers particularly look for herbs that can affect such parameters as growth performance, immune response, or treatment of certain diseases. Aloe vera is a well-known herb characterized by properties such as anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, wound-healing, anti-oxidant, and anti-diabetic effects. During the past years, attention has shifted toward Aloe vera as a natural additive to broiler diets, and studies have shown that Aloe vera can improve immune response and growth performance in broilers. In addition, Aloe vera is an excellent alternative for antibiotic growth promoters and anticoccidial drugs. Since Aloe vera can be used for broilers in the form of gel, powder, ethanolic extract, aqueous extract, and a polysaccharide contained in Aloe vera gel (i.e. acemannan), more studies are required to determine the best form and to compare Aloe vera with other medicinal herbs. This paper reviews effects of Aloe vera on intestinal microflora, growth performance, immune response, and coccidiosis in broiler chickens.
