Abstract:
Porous aluminophosphate zeotypes (AlPOs) are promising materials for heat transformation applications using water as a working fluid. Two “types” of adsorbed water molecules can be distinguished in hydrated AlPOs: Water molecules adsorbed in the direct proximity of framework aluminium atoms form bonds to these Al atoms, with the coordination number of Al increasing from four to five or six. The remaining water molecules that are adsorbed in other parts of the accessible pore space are not strongly bonded to any framework atom, they interact with their environment exclusively through hydrogen bonds. The APC-type small-pore aluminophosphate AlPO4-H3 contains both types of H2O molecules. In the present work, this prototypical hydrated AlPO is studied using dispersion-corrected density functional theory (DFT) calculations. After validating the computations against experimental crystal structure and Raman spectroscopy data, three interrelated aspects are addressed: First, calculations for various partially hydrated models are used to establish that such partially hydrated phases are not thermodynamically stable, as the interaction with the adsorbed water molecules is distinctly weaker than in fully hydrated AlPO4-H3. Second, IR and Raman spectra are computed and compared to those of the dehydrated analogue AlPO4-C, leading to the identification of a few “fingerprint” modes that could be used as indicators for the presence of Al-coordinated water molecules. Finally, DFT-based molecular dynamics calculations are employed to study the dynamics of the adsorbed water molecules. All in all, this in-depth computational study of AlPO4-H3 contributes to the fundamental understanding of hydrated AlPOs, and should therefore provide valuable information for future computational and experimental studies of these systems.

Abstract:
Microporous alumophosphate molecular sieves AlPO4-n are promising materials for use in catalysis, gas adsorption, and gas separation. However, AlPO4-n faces problems such as diffusion limitations that lead to a deterioration in mass transfer. To solve this problem, we studied the crystallization of alumophosphate reaction gels prepared using aluminum isopropoxide and various secondary amines as templates, including diethyl-, di-n-propyl-, diisopropyl-, and di-n-butylamines. Using X-ray diffraction, Ramon spectroscopy, and STEM methods, it has been demonstrated that the reaction gels prepared using DPA, DIPA, and DBA are amorphous xerogels consisting of 5–10 nm nanoparticles. The reaction gel prepared with DEA is a combination of a layered phase and an amorphous aluminophosphate. It has been shown that the use of aluminum iso-propoxide allows the production of AlPO4-11 in the form of 2–4 µm aggregates consisting of primary AlPO4-11 nanocrystals. The template was found to exert a significant effect upon both the characteristics of the porous structure and the size of AlPO-11 nanocrystals. A template is proposed for the synthesis of hierarchical AlPO4-11 with a maximum volume of mesopores. The morphology and crystal size of AlPO4-11 were found to strongly influence its adsorption properties in the adsorption of octane.

Transition metal (iron, cobalt, and chromium) substituted Hexagonal Mesoporous Aluminophosphate (HMA), and AlPO4-5 were studied for the oxidative desulfurization (ODS) reaction of refractory sulfur compounds such as DBT (dibenzothiophene) and 4,6-DMDBT (4,6- dimethyldibenzothiophene). Selective oxidation activity varies with the kind of transition metal employed. The ODS activity of HMA substituted catalyst follows the order: CrHMA >> CoHMA ≥ FeHMA. Comparison between HMA and AlPO-5, CrHMA catalyst shows better performance than Cr-AlPO4-5 catalyst when tert-butyl hydroperoxide is used as oxidizing agent.

Abstract:
Polymer blending has been widely used to fabricate polymeric films in the last decade due to its superior properties to a single component. In this study, an aluminum phosphate-coated halloysite nanotube (HNTs@AlPO4) was fabricated using a one-pot heterogeneous precipitation method, organically modified HNTs@AlPO4 (o-HNTs@AlPO4) was used to improve the performance of polyethylene oxide/poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PEO/PBAT) blends, and the mechanical and rheological properties of the PEO/PBAT/o-HNTs@AlPO4 films were systematically discussed. According to our results, there is an optimal addition for adequate AlPO4 nanoparticle dispersion and coating on the surface of HNTs, and organic modification could improve the interfacial compatibility of HNTs@AlPO4 and the polymeric matrix. Moreover, o-HNTs@AlPO4 may serve as a compatibilizer between PEO and PBAT, and PEO/PBAT/o-HNTs@AlPO4 films have better mechanical and rheological properties than the PEO/PBAT blends without the o-HNTs@AlPO4 component.

Abstract:
AlPO4 nanoparticles were synthesized via chemical deposition method and used for the surface modification of MoO2 to improve its structural stability and electrochemical performance. Structure and surface morphology of pristine and AlPO4-coated MoO2 anode material were characterized by electron microscopy imaging (SEM and TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). AlPO4 nanoparticles were observed, covering the surface of MoO2. Surface analyses show that the synthesized AlPO4 is amorphous, and the surface modification with AlPO4 does not result in a distortion of the lattice structure of MoO2. The electrochemical properties of pristine and AlPO4-coated MoO2 were characterized in the voltage range of 0.01–2.5 V versus Li/Li+. Cyclic voltammetry studies indicate that the improvement in electrochemical performance of the AlPO4-coated anode material was attributed to the stabilization of the lattice structure during lithiation. Galvanostatic charge/discharge and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies reveal that the AlPO4 nanoparticle coating improves the rate capability and cycle stability and contributes toward decreasing surface layer and charge-transfer resistances. These results suggest that surface modification with AlPO4 nanoparticles suppresses the elimination of oxygen vacancies in the lattice structure during cycling, leading to a better rate performance and cycle life.

Abstract:
Cristobalite aluminum phosphate (C-AlPO4) coatings were prepared by hydrothermal electrophoretic process on SiC coated C/C composites at different temperatures. The as-prepared C-AlPO4 coatings was characterized by SEM analyses. The influence of hydrothermal deposition temperature on the microstructures of the as-prepared coatings and the deposition kinetics mechanism were investigated. Results show that dense and homogeneous C-AlPO4 coatings on SiC coated C/C composites can be achieved at 373K and 220V deposition voltage; Kinetics investigations show that the deposition process of the C-AlPO4 coatings on SiC coated C/C composite is controlled by the diffusion rate of the charged C-AlPO4 particles to the cathode; the deposition rate increases with the increase of hydrothermal temperature. The diffusion equation and the kinetic expression of coating process follow the Fick’s second law and Ahrennius relationship. The deposition activation energy of the C-AlPO4 coatings fabricated by the hydrothermal electrophoretic process is calculated to be 21.88kJ/mol.

Abstract:
SiC fiber-reinforced AlPO4 matrix (SiCf/MWCNTs/AlPO4) composites were fabricated using a hot laminating process with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as the absorber. A coating prepared from SiO2 + SiC + Al (H2PO4)3 was applied to the surface of the SiCf/MWCNTs/AlPO4 composites prior to an anti-oxidation test at 1273 K in air for 40 h. The anti-oxidation effect was verified by a three-point bending test, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and a dielectric property test. Anti-oxidation mechanism investigations revealed that the coating effectiveness could be attributed to three substances, i.e., SiO2, SiP2O7, and SiO2 + AlPO4 solid solution from the reactions of SiC + O2→SiO2 + CO, SiO2 + P2O5→SiP2O7 and SiO2 + AlPO4→solid solution, respectively.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Combustion tests have been carried out in a circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boiler co-firing wood and municipal, digested and mechanical dewatered sewage sludge from two Swedish wastewater treatment plants, using either iron sulphate or aluminum sulphate as precipitating chemicals. Experimental data on the concentration of various phosphorous compounds in the ashes are compared with theoretical equilibrium predictions. A clear relationship is not found between the employed precipitation chemical and the formation of phosphorous compounds in the ash. Hematite (Fe2O3(s)) is predicted to be the stable iron compound, and even in the sludge precipitated by iron sulphate, the aluminium content is sufficient to form aluminium phosphate (AlPO4(s)) in similar amounts as in the sludge precipitated by aluminium sulphate. Lime addition to the bed gives a decreased formation of AlPO4(s) in favour of calcium orthophosphate (Ca3(PO4)2(s)), which interferes with the sulphur capture efficiency of lime.
