Abstract Learning to look I have mentioned in these pages on previous occasions that designers spend a fair amount of their time studying the artefacts of the recent and long gone past in order to understand what gives these things their special qualities. Architects, in particular, always look critically at the works of other architects either in real life or reproduced in magazines.

This is a house about decisions that were not made, not because I am indecisive, which I am, but because many of those choices that architects consider to be critical in design are to me either unnecessary or impossible: the choice between the detail of traditional architecture and the non-detail of minimalism, between a frame building and a wall building, between a free plan and a cellular plan, between a tight fit and a loose fit with function. These were all decisions in which I chose not one alternative but both. I did not believe the conventional wisdom that to be modern was to be minimal

Marcello Vitali-Rosati, in the essay “The Writer is the Architect” complimented by other works, provides a two-part thesis. The first argues that space is a chiasmic structure (as inside-outside); and the second argues that this structure reveals the productive role of the subject in constructing digital space (as architect). The essay here seeks to elucidate this logic and to expose it to a Lacanian critique: that it is a hysterical discourse unable in principle to emancipate digital spaces because it entails a purely immanent subject—in short, a subject which is solely product, not producer,

It is looked upon as a means of credit-based poverty alleviation through financial inclusion. India also witnesses the same. The programme was mainstreamed in 1996 to link unorganised with the formal financial sector. To this end, architects need to spend a lot of time, through modeling and other means, to present the architectural plan that can be understood by people. However, this method is time-consuming and laborious. Due to the development of deep learning technology, especially convolutional neural networks (CNN) and generative adversarial networks (GAN), they have shown great advantages in the field of image recognition

Abstract:
This study investigates the mechanisms of neighborhood relations and the challenges affecting neighborhood connectivity in urban communities. It examines factors contributing to declining neighborhood connections, such as lack of sincerity, absence of belonging, busy lifestyles, design issues, and the pervasive impact of mobile phones. The role of architects and urban planners in promoting connectivity through policies and design strategies is analyzed, alongside government initiatives like town meetings and community engagement. Abstract:
This report analyses the Technological Innovation System (TIS) of Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) in Austria. The study’s scope is consistent with the IEA PVPS Task 15 report [1].The analysis aims to facilitate and support the innovation, development, and implementation of industrial solutions of BIPV technologies. In Austria, the use of BIPV is still a niche application and covers under 2% of all implemented PV systems [1]. BIPV technology in Austria has historically developed with the support of different public financial incentives, national and European. The history of BIPV is som

Abstract:
The DoD operates significant and strategically important installations in the Arctic and Subarctic domain. Geopolitical, economic, and climatic changes require an upgraded ability to rapidly deploy and sustain forces into Arctic and Subarctic regions. Relevant engineering criteria and guidance to support these efforts are the Unified Facility Criteria 3-130–Arctic and Subarctic Construction (UFC 3-130) documents, originally a seven-volume series. The series has been ‘inactive’, indicating the specifications are not current and potentially technically noncompliant. Therefore, designers may reso

Abstract:
On the way to a reliable and large-scale application of internal insulation, clear and simple guidelines for building practitioners are needed, across all phases of refurbishment planning. Closing this gap was one objective of the “IN2EuroBuild”-project, completed in 2022. As a support in the planning process and for decision-making within the framework of the project, two comprehensive guides for the planning of internal insulation measures were developed. They guide users from the as-is analysis of the building (part one) to the renovation planning of the façade, the selection of suitable in

Abstract:
A solar-powered automated transportation network (ATN) connecting the North and South campuses of San José State University with three passenger stations was designed, visualized, and analyzed in terms of its energy usage, carbon offset, and cost. The study’s methodology included the use of tools and software such as ArcGIS, SketchUp, Infraworks, Sketchup, Rhinoceros, and Autodesk 3DS Max. ATN vehicle energy usage was estimated using data from the university’s Park & Ride shuttle bus operation and by modeling with SUMOPy, the advanced simulation suite for the micro-traffic simulator SUMO.
