Abstract:
O presente trabalho de dissertação apresenta uma proposta comparatista de leitura entre os objetos Altazor, de Vicente Huidobro, e Assim falou Zaratustra, de Nietzsche. Numa tentativa de organização cronológica, inicialmente, o texto presta-se à análise dos antecedentes daqueles objetos. Então, analisa-os na sua perspectiva teórica: por um lado o criacionismo de Huidobro, e, por outro, os quatro conceitos filosóficos orientadores de Zaratustra. Em seguida, os personagens são apresentados em perspectiva conceitual e estrutural, para, finalmente, concretizar-se a proposta de leitura comparatista, que se faz a partir dos pressupostos filosóficos de Zaratustra, buscando a perspectiva dionisíaca da afirmação no decurso de Altazor. Nesse sentido, a decomposição gradativa da língua, que se nota em Altazor, pode não representar uma renúncia à poesia, mas, a exemplo da peregrinação de Zaratustra, com o sentido afirmativo de Dioniso, aquela decomposição se torna, em Altazor, uma superação da língua e do cânone poético.
This thesis presents a proposal comparatist reading between the objects: Huidobro"s Altazor, and Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra. In an attempt to chronological organization, initially, the text lends itself to analysis of the antecedents of those objects. Then analyzes them in their theoretical perspective: on one hand the Huidobro's creationism, and secondly, the four guiding philosophical concepts of Zarathustra. Then the characters are presented in conceptual and structural perspective, to finally materialize the proposal comparatist reading, which is made from the philosophical assumptions of Zarathustra, seeking affirmation of the Dionysian perspective during Altazor. In this sense, the gradual decay of language, which is noted in Altazor may not represent a waiver of poetry, but, like the pilgrimage of Zarathustra, with the affirmative sense of Dionysus, that decomposition becomes, in Altazor, an overcoming of language and poetic canon.

Este estudo propõe uma análise do poema Altazor (obraprima do vanguardismo em língua espanhola) do poeta chileno Vicente Huidobro, evidenciando seus aspectos temáticos, estruturais e metalingüísticos. O poema Altazor o el viaje en paracaídas expõe a teoria criacionista de Huidobro, 'expressando por meio do lúdico exercício imagístico, toda uma desolada visão do mundo, centrada na solidão, na incomunicação e no vazio'. O mito do poeta como pequeno Deus e a realização do poema criado representam o ideal perseguido por Altazor- Huidobro em sua trajetória poética na qual "a Poesia é a linguagem da Criação". No poema Altazor, o motivo da viagem difere do sentido tradicional do livro de relatos. A leitura de Altazor se faz como percurso poético no espaço da página do poema, revelando a ousadia criadora do poeta através do jogo com a linguagem, das metáforas e de seus efeitos visuais e sonoros

Abstract:
In this thesis Vicente Huidobro's French "Fragment d'Altazor" (1930) and Spanish Altazor (1931) are compared with Samuel Beckett's English Imagination Dead Imagine (19B5) and French "Imagination morte imaginez" (1967) in terms of the concepts of musical and architectural scale which are common to all of these texts. While the Huidobro works maintain a primarily musical notion of scale, the Beckett texts employ a chiefly architectural one. In Huidobro, the vestigial presence of the diatonic scale in the seven Canto divisions of Altazor together with the chromatic structuring of Canto IV with its dodecaphonic repetition of "No hay tiempo que perder," foreshadow the fully realized tonic scale of the nightingale passage's (IV 193-9) emblematic acrosticism. In Beckett, scale involves measurement with respect to a radix or basic, conventional unit and is used in the precise description of the rotunda, the two figures within, and the flux of light and heat. The Beckettian scale is undercut, however, by the replacement of radices with retrograde and inverted variants. A semiotic approach has been used in the discussion of these texts since it not only foregrounds the importance of pattern as meaningful in itself, but also allows for comparison of two works according to the functioning of their meaning-systems, while permitting analysis at the local, medial, and global levels of the texts. However, in contrast to the theory of a semiotician like Michael Riffaterre, the view taken in this- thesis is that form is an extension of content. Thus the figure/ ground relationship is discussed both in terms of the scales studied and of its value as a theoretical device. Imagination Dead Imaoine/"Imaoination morte imaginez" subverts rational cross-reference by injecting multiple instabilities into the figure/ground relation. By creating a figure, the rotunda, against the backdrop of "anywhere" ("ailleurs") and then removing the figure, the Beckett text effects a realization of "Nulle part." Huidobro's texts, in contrast, employ alternation (e.g., in the tonic-chromatic-tonic scales) to arrive at a non-referential purity of language ("La pura palabra y nada mcis" --III 145). As different as these two texts are in terms of, for instance, genre, length, and diegetical features, they are similar in their refusal, commonly articulated in their use of the multidimensional patterns of scale, to delimit any one particular meaning.

Esta dissertação realiza uma leitura do poema Altazor (1931) de Vicente Huidobro assumindo as postulações do gênero épico e suas condições de desenvolvimento na modernidade. Nesse período, sobretudo desde o séc. XIX até as Vanguardas ou até hoje, se encontram importantes obras que põem em circulação tal gênero, mesmo contra as formulações metafísicas que o consideravam como um espaço discursivo impossível na modernidade. Nesse movimento, Altazor se insere como uma autoconsciência da problemática da linguagem e suas capacidades objetivas; trata-se dos modos possíveis de enunciação de um grande poeta, Altazor, esvaziado da serenidade de outrora e em busca de uma língua que vá mais além da língua materna, já que ele não aceita sua origem. Sua revolução política se opera na linguagem, o dispositivo que diz a história.

En ese movimiento, Altazor se inserta como una autoconciencia de la problemática del lenguaje y sus capacidades objetivas; se trata de los modos posibles de enunciación de un gran poeta, Altazor, vaciado de la serenidad de antaño y en busca de una lengua que vaya más allá de la lengua materna, puesto que no acepta su origen. Su revolución política se opera en el lenguaje, el dispositivo que dice la historia.

Esta investigación propone una relectura de Altazor (1931) a partir de los postulados del psicoanálisis lacaniano tanto en el plano del enunciado como en el de la enunciación. Los conceptos analíticos como lo simbólico y lo imaginario, el goce, el objeto a y el fantasma permiten entrelazar la compleja subjetividad del protagonista en el plano del enunciado: contestatario, nihilista y deicida, y de repente, molido por los sentimientos de angustia, impotencia y terror, sentimientos que -desde el análisis de la enunciación discursiva revelan la estratagema formal del poema como una respuesta creativa ante una verdad inquietante e insoportable: la ausencia fundamental de los principios estéticos y ontológicos sobre la cual se ha erigido la civilización humana

"Partie d'une hypothèse sur le graphème comme inscription porteuse d'un sens, hypothèse envisageant le recueil principal de Vicente Huidobro, "Altazor", comme lieu central et mythique d'une problématique rêvée de l'identité, la thèse interroge le texte et sa signifiance, l'œuvre comme système unique, langage actif diégétisant et dramatisant le "mythe personnel" du poète. L'enjeu de la thèse est double: d'une part, approcher au plus près l'autre histoire véhiculée par la lettre et son sémantisme propre ne valant que dans une œuvre et pour un auteur donnés ; et d'autre part, étudier le processus complexe d'élaboration de la "figure-texte" en tant qu'identité, condition et définition d'un moi textuel, dans la fiction duquel se projette à tous moments le moi auctorial: là donc où se joue la démarche auto-fondatrice du poète dans et par son œuvre. Penser le moi poétique comme rénovation et reconstruction en mouvement permanent, c'est aussi s'ouvrir à une dialectique de l'identité où l'équilibre et l'appartenance, paramètres essentiels à toute fondation, surgissent dans le même acte simultané de la fracture et de l'échec-déstructuration. Logique-dialectique susceptible de donner à l'œuvre et à l'histoire personnelle du poète qui s'y trouve "mise en intrigue", leur forme-sens spécifique. "
Proceeding from the concept of the grapheme as an inscription which in itself bears meaning, the thesis envisages Vicente Huidobro's principal collection, "Altazor", as the focus of a problematic of identity. The thesis questions the text and its meaning, and the work as a specific system where language dramatizes and narrativizes the poet's "personal myth". The thesis has a dual objective. On the one hand, to look closely at the alternate story, so to speak, expressed by the grapheme as such, and its own semantics within a individual work by a individual author ; and on the other hand, to study the complex process of development of the 'text-figure' as the identity, condition and definition of a textual self in fiction, in which the author's self is present at all times. The arena in which the poet establishes himself in and by his work. Elaborating a poetic self as a perpetual movement of renovation and reconstruction, is also to open oneself to a dialectic of identity where balance and belonging, essential parametres in establishing such presence, arise in the same act of simultaneous fracture and fragmentation-failure. A dialectic-logic capable of lending a specific form-meaning to the work, and to the author's personal experience which is woven into it

Schon seit längerer Zeit wird versucht, Konstruktion und Berechnung zu verschmelzen. Ein Hindernis ist dabei oft, dass Berechnungsexpertise erforderlich ist, um aussagefähige Modelle zu erstellen. Da meistens die Finite Elemente Analyse verwendet wird, sind Geometrievereinfachungen und Vernetzung erforderlich. Beides braucht Expertise und vor allem Zeit. Obwohl es schon Software gibt, die diese Prozesse automatisiert, gibt es immer wieder Limitationen. Mit SimSolid gibt es nun eine Software, die keine Geometrievereinfachung und -vernetzung erfordert und damit einige Hindernisse für die konstruktionsnahe Berechnung aus dem Weg schafft. In SimSolid ist eine vernetzungsfreie Finite Elemente Methode implementiert. Sie basiert auf der Anwendung der Ritz-Galerkin Methode. Der Vortrag gibt eine kurze Übersicht über die mathematischen Grundlagen. Die Vorteile liegen auf der Hand: Die Software kann CAD-Geometrie direkt und ohne Vereinfachung verarbeiten. Bauteilgruppen und Produkte können als Ganzes geladen und simuliert werden. Die gegenwärtige Implementation erlaubt lineare und nichtlineare Statik, stationäre thermische, Eigenfrequenz- sowie modale dynamische Berechnungen. Weiterhin verwendet der Lösungsalgorithmus adaptive Verfeinerungen der Formfunktionen. Dies geschieht automatisch in mehreren Lösungsschritten. Lokale Anreicherungen des Funktionsraumes sind auch möglich, um zum Beispiel genauere Spannungsaussagen zu bekommen. Kontakt und nichtlineare Materialien sind verfügbar. Altair SimSolid wird die konstruktionsnahe Berechnung verändern. Es können nun neben einfacher linearer Statik auch komplexere Phänomene im Konstruktionsstadium schnell analysiert werden. Natürlich muss der Konstrukteur beim Aufsetzen der Berechnungen über geeignete Material- und Lastdaten verfügen, wobei sich aber durch die Betrachtung von ganzen Baugruppen die Definition von Rand- und Lagerbedingungen dramatisch vereinfacht. Insgesamt wird SimSolid auch durch seine einfache Handhabung bald als Konstruktionswerkzeug nicht mehr wegzudenken sein.

Evidencia-se nesse trabalho o altar-mor, sua origem e evolução, no decurso dos séculos, identificando a ação da igreja católica, como agente de veiculação de ideologias e da fé cristã, onde, a atividade espiritual que especificava a arte, se caracterizava por uma exigência de perfeição e constituíase na síntese de três formas distintas: unidade, integridade e harmonia; propiciando, além do prazer estético, o envolvimento do fiel no ato litúrgico. Analisa-se os aspectos construtivos, estruturais e ornamentais dos altares-mores das igrejas de Salvador, construídos nos séculos XVII e XVIII, agrupando-os por semelhança, estabelecendo um paralelo entre as suas expressões formais, na sua totalidade e em seus aspectos particulares. Procurou-se, conseqüentemente, situar estas obras no contexto social da época, analisando as influências decorrentes da religiosidade, interpretando as ornamentações e simbologias, vislumbrando-se ressaltar a importância de suas expressividades e destacar a necessidade de preservação deste patrimônio cultural.

Abstract:
Many ethnographic accounts within the annals of anthropological literature describe the religious beliefs and magical rituals of peoples throughout the world. Fewer scholars have focused on the relatively young Neo-Pagan religious movement. "Neo-Pagan," explains Helen Berger in Voices from the Pagan Census (2003), "is an umbrella term covering sects of a new religious movement, the largest and most important form of which is…Wicca" (Berger et al. 2003: 1). This thesis examines the relationship between practice and ideology by analyzing the material culture of Wiccan altars as used by Wiccans in Central Florida, USA. Particular attention is paid to beliefs concerning concepts of gender associated with ritual objects, and concepts of gender and sexuality as understood by practitioners. Many Wiccans see divinity as manifested in two complementary beings: the Goddess and the God. The fertility that these divine beings achieve through sexual union is the subject of an elaborate ritual called the Great Rite. A pair of Wiccans, often a masculine High Priest and a feminine High Priestess, conduct this ritual by manipulating specific objects, which are believed to be strongly gendered. I argue that Wiccan rituals reflect, construct, and reinforce the Wiccan precept of a gender-balanced cosmos through the interaction of these primary ritual actors and the gendered objects they manipulate. As a practicing Wiccan, my theoretical approach is aligned with that of the native scholar. The native scholar faces challenges distancing her or himself from research, but gains opportunities from insider knowledge. Wiccan ideology stands in contrast to heteronormative conventions of gender and sexuality. However, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Wiccans may need to actively negotiate for representation in this movement, where fertility is stressed. Wiccans continuously reinvent established practices in an attempt to create a more satisfying religious community.

This research studies by Oral History of Life, recordkeeping and theoretical procedures of sociology of religion, the political actions of married priests and their wives from the Administrative Institute of Jesus the Good Shepherd (IAJES) in the context of the military dictatorship between 1970 and 1985, under influence of the Liberation`s Theology, and the operation of the base ecclesial communities (BECs), between its begginig and endind period (1969-1996) in the Alto Paraná region, in the cities of Andradina-SP and Três Lagoas-MS, organizing and constituting religious and politic militancy in the region and in Brazil in the past, and currently remains through branches as the Married Priests Movement of Brazil (MPC). For this we analyzed the organizational structure of IAJES and MPC, its operation and how do they positioned in front of the church`s symbolism in relation to married priests and their wifes. Thus, we analyze the break with clerical celibacy imposed by the priestly-traditional catholic power and its legitimation and distinctions in contemporary Brazil.
Esta dissertação aborda, por um lado, as ações políticas dos padres casados e suas esposas do Instituto Administrativo Jesus Bom Pastor (IAJES), no contexto da ditadura militar entre 1970 a 1985, sob influência da Teologia da Libertação e o funcionamento das comunidades eclesiais de base (CEBs), tendo o período de formação e término do Instituto (1969 a 1996) na região do Alto Paraná, nos municípios de Andradina-SP e Três Lagoas-MS. Por outro lado, o trabalho se volta para a condição de tais indivíduos atualmente, verificando os desdobramentos da militância religiosa e política na região e o desenvolvimento do Movimento de Padres Casados do Brasil (MPC). Para isso analisou-se a estrutura organizacional do IAJES e do MPC, seu funcionamento e como se posiciona diante da simbologia da igreja em relação aos padres casados e suas esposas. O trabalho decorre da análise do rompimento de indivíduos com o celibato clerical e suas formas contemporâneas de legitimação.

This dissertation proposes to present two sides of Luís da Câmara Cascudo less explored by historiography, the one of a man of faith and the one of a catholic historian. In reconstitution of the intellectual path of Câmara Cascudo, we highlight the influences acquired in the familial environment; the school formation in his childhood and the academic in his youth; the constitution of the family and his adulthood; his deeds as a journalist and as a teacher, so we can, then, set about, more closely, his production as a historian. Besides having been the Official Historian of the city of Natal and having produced several established historical syntheses about his State and home city, Câmara Cascudo was a member of the Historical and Geographic Institute of Rio Grande do Norte and of all Brazilian Institutes, a fact we discuss from the historiographic debate about his “incurable provincialism”, from the reflection about his conception of History and from his analysis about the version of History of Brazil and Ri

A Praia do Cassino, situada ao Sul da desembocadura da Lagoa dos Patos, demonstra uma variação textural e hidrodinâmica influenciada pela deposição de sedimentos sobre a praia e a antepraia. As regiões mais próximas da Lagoa possuem tamanhos de grãos menores que as regiões mais afastadas. A existência de um banco de lama na ante-praia causa a atenuação das ondas nos setores contíguos à desembocadura. A Querência se encontra na área sob influência da atenuação das ondas e que possui sedimentos areia fina mas próximo à muito fina como classe granulométrica predominante e o Navio, a 13 Km da Querência, possui preponderantemente areia fina muito próxima de areia média e apresentando ondulações maiores. Efetuaram-se coletas de sedimentos ao longo do trecho das duas praias em que se observou que os tamanhos de grão oscilam entre as duas praias, mas com a tendência de aumento em direção ao Navio, especialmente nos subambientes mais influenciados pela ação dos espraiamento das ondas. Realizaram-se perfis diários durante o verão de 2006 nas duas praias onde o Navio demonstrou possuir uma praia mais íngreme e curta que a Querência, além de apresentar todos os parâmetros morfométricos propostos por Wrigth e Short (1984) caracteristicamente mais intermediários, especialmente os índices de mobilidade da praia e o do pós praia. As observações visuais demonstraram ondas mais altas e de período menor no Navio. O cálculo do parâmetro Ω foi 5, 87 para a Querência e 4,87 para o Navio. A integração de todos os fatores permitiu classificar a Querência como uma praia dissipativa e o Navio como intermediária banco-cava.
The Cassino Beach, which is in the south of the Patos Lagoon inlet, shows a hydrodynamic and textural variation because of the sediment disposal in the beach and off-shore. The closer to Lagoon regions shows finest grains than far from that. The offshore mud bank presence causes the wave attenuations in the close to inlet regions. The Querência Beach is on the wave attenuation region and that has very fine sand. Altair Shipwreck beach, which is 13 far from the Querência beach, is more exposure to the waves and has fine sand grain. We made sediment grabs all area long between the two beaches and the sediment response was that its height oscillates among than, but tends to become coarser, especially in that segments of the beach that are more wave influenced. The 2006 summer daily profiles of the two beaches showed that Altair Shipwreck Beach is smaller and with a bigger gradient than Querência’s Beach and has all the Wrigth e Short’s (1984) parameters more intermediate, specially de mobility of the beach and of the post-beach. The visual observation showed a bigger wave height an a smaller wave period I the Altair Shipwreck Beach. The Ω parameter was 5,87 to Querência Beach and 4,87 to Altair Shipwreck Beach. All the factors analyzed permitted to conclude that Querência is an intermediary beach and Altair Shipwreck is a longshore bar and trough beach.

This paper explores the social processes that influence attitudes that legitimate the cultural discrimination toward same sex unions and multi racial marriage. Both types of relationships remain marginalized in today?s society. Utilizing the 2000 and 2002 General Social Survey datasets, I assess if race, sex, religion and gender ideology affect attitudes toward same sex and multi racial couples in a similar manner. Parallel logistic regression models are run to explore the role of race, sex, religion and gender ideology in explaining attitudes towards both same sex marriage and multiracial marriage. The results suggest that the processes that influence white attitudes are similar for both types of relationships. However, the attitudes of the black sample are not so easily predicted. While the lack of statistical significance within the black population may partially be explained by a small sample size, the results do suggest that the processes leading to negative attitudes towards both types of relationships may be different for blacks and whites. Possible explanations are provided and suggestions for future research addressed.

Since the day of its discovery (1878) the Great Altar of Pergamon has been evaluated for its aesthetic and stylistic contribution to Greek art. The aim of this thesis is to study the monument not merely from an art-historical point of view but within its historical and cultural context. The intention is to view the Pergamene monument as a characteristic example of the Hellenistic age and in relation to the Attalids as Hellenistic rulers. It is divided into five chapters. The first deals with the monument itself and the various theories regarding the date of its inception, the number of sculptor/s employed and the theories of interpretation so far suggested. The second chapter examines certain aspects of Attalid policies such as: military history and foreign relations, coinage, cults and festivals, ruler-cult, art and building programme, and finally patronage of learning. The third and fourth chapters deal with the friezes of the monument - the Gigantomachy and Telephos frieze respectively. They examine the iconographic tradition of the myths depicted, the current literature on the style of the friezes, some difficulties with currently accepted theories are noted and new theories advanced. The fifth and final chapter is divided into two parts. The first part points out the elements of the artist's technique that make the monument a characteristic example of the Hellenistic Aesthetic. The second part examines how the imagery on the monument was manipulated by the Attalid kings in their search for self-definition. Their case is examined against the examples of 5th century BC Athens and 1st century BC Augustan Rome

El presente trabajo de investigación tiene la finalidad de dar respuesta a cuál fue el significado y posible función social del Altar de Itzpapálotl dentro del contexto mexica de su elaboración. Por lo tanto, se divide en tres capítulos: en el primero se examinan el contexto mexica (aspecto territorial, político, social, religioso y cultural), así como la periodización y principales características de su escultura. En el segundo, los elementos fundamentales en la concepción de las deidades y de la diosa Itzpapálotl con base en los datos disponibles en las fuentes del periodo novohispano, estudios modernos, aunado a su representación iconográfica en esculturas y códices tanto prehispánicos como coloniales. Finalmente, el tercer capítulo alude al estudio del Altar de Itzpapálotl a partir de su historia (itinerario: coleccionismo en México de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX al siglo XX y ubicación actual); la descripción de sus motivos; identificación de la tradición icónica, significado y mensaje de estos motivos, para interpretar y explicar tanto su simbolismo como su posible función mediante el análisis de sus aspectos materiales (tipo escultórico).

É o seu papel simbólico que me permite, pois, analisar as secções do poema que proponho à luz do tema apresentado e dedicar um capítulo ao modo como a ponte de Brooklyn tem sido retratada, ao longo dos tempos, pelos diversos campos artísticos. A análise textual que apresento e as breves alusões a outros poemas e poetas da mesma época que Hart Crane permitem-me incluí-lo no movimento Modernista e realçar os traços característicos da sua poesia.

Diante do crescimento do fenômeno turístico e evangélico no cenário contemporâneo mundial e brasileiro, este estudo busca verificar como o turismo se desdobra em várias facetas específicas no caso do turismo religioso entre os evangélicos e como pode-se ver o fenômeno religioso evangélico pela via do turismo. Assim sendo, esta dissertação parte de uma análise mais ampla do que procuro configurar como “turismo evangélico” no país, investigando através de um estudo de caso com foco em eventos evangélicos, realizados em Belo Horizonte – MG, como se dá a experiência desse turismo.

Os anos transcorridos entre a emancipação política do Brasil e o término da experiência regencial caracterizaram-se pelos embates em torno da definição das linhas mestras do arranjo político que conformaria o novo Estado que se buscava forjar. Chamado a participar deste momento ímpar da história política brasileira, o clero apresentou-se como um dos segmentos numericamente mais fortes do Parlamento. Com base nesta constatação, o presente estudo busca compreender as íntimas relações estabelecidas entre religião e política no Império e como se deu a participação dos padres políticos no processo de construção das bases do Estado brasileiro. A partir da análise da trajetória dos padres presentes na Assembleia Constituinte de 1823 e na Assembleia Geral do Brasil, ao longo das quatro primeiras legislaturas do Império, transcorridas entre 1826 e 1841, procuramos lançar luz a três questões chave. A primeira refere-se à conjunção de fatores que levou os padres a entrarem para o mundo formal da política, via processo eleitoral. A segunda diz respeito a envolvimento do clero com as discussões que perpassaram a problemática da distribuição do poder entre o centro e a periferia do Império, entre poder executivo e legislativo, e entre o poder temporal e o espiritual. A terceira questão trata, por fim, das motivações religiosas que se encontravam por trás das inúmeras batalhas travadas pelos padres no Parlamento que traduziam sua expectativa de inaugurar uma nova fase da história do catolicismo brasileiro.
The years between Brazils political emancipation and the end of the Regency experiment are characterized by conflicts over the definition of the outlines of political arrangement which would form the new state which was being created. The clergy was called to participate in this unique moment of Brazilian political history and it was one of the numerically strongest segments of the Parliament. Based on this evidence, this study seeks to understand the intimate relations between religion and politics in the Empire and how was the participation of political priests in the process of building the Brazilian state foundations. From the analysis of the trajectory of the priests present at the Constituent Assembly of 1823 and the General Assembly of Brazil, during the first four legislatures of the Empire, between 1826 and 1841, we focus on three key issues. The first refers to the conjunction of factors which led priests to enter into the formal world of politics, via electoral process. The second concerns the involvement of the clergy in discussions which problematized matters of power distribution within the Imperial center/periphery; between the Executive and the Legislative; and between the historical and the spiritual. Finally, the third point refers to the religious motivation underlying numerous battles in the Parliament among the priests, which conveyed their expectations of opening a new phase in the history of Brazilian Catholicism.

A presente dissertação tem por tema o tratamento da espiritualidade em The Bridge, de Hart Crane. Ao longo do trabalho, a ponte de Brooklyn, a musa inspiradora do poema, é analisada como estrutura arquitectónica, o seu processo de construção e as condições políticas e económico-sociais da América que permitiram esse mesmo processo são descritos e a simbologia da ponte enquanto artefacto arquitectónico e poético é explorada. É o seu papel simbólico que me permite, pois, analisar as secções do poema que proponho à luz do tema apresentado e dedicar um capítulo ao modo como a ponte de Brooklyn tem sido retratada, ao longo dos tempos, pelos diversos campos artísticos. A análise textual que apresento e as breves alusões a outros poemas e poetas da mesma época que Hart Crane permitem-me incluí-lo no movimento Modernista e realçar os traços característicos da sua poesia.

Trata-se de um estudo aprofundado e diversificado sobre o espaço litúrgico cristão, lugar de encontro da comunidade de fé com seu senhor, Jesus Cristo, Logos encarnado, visível na Palavra e no Pão e no Vinho da refeição eucarística, e expressos nos focos físicos do ambão e da mesa/altar. O estudo do tema leva, em primeiro lugar, à investigação sobre as características que devem ter um espaço físico de teofania, vinculadas aos transcendentais de Beleza, Bondade, Verdade e Harmonia, que Platão entendia como da essência divina. Busca-se entender como esses transcendentais foram observados ao longo dos tempos também no pensamento de Plotino, Agostinho, Kant e Hegel. Em seguida, de forma multidisciplinar, são apresentadas as contribuições de uma teologia da estética e dos sacramentos, em diálogo com a Filosofia, a Ética, a História, a Arquitetura, a Filosofia da Arquitetura, a Liturgia e as Santas Escrituras, nas tradições cristãs do anglicanismo, do luteranismo e do catolicismo romano. Há desdobramentos sobre a reflexão e o trabalho de arquitetos em torno da expressão concreta da imanência e da transcendência divinas na arquitetura, tentando expressar o Inexpressável, e vinculando assim a Bela Arte da Arquitetura ao campo da fé cristã. A seguir, uma exaustiva pesquisa é realizada em torno ao ambão e ao altar, focos físicos da Presença divina, interpretando- os a partir de tipologias teológicas e de sua utilização nas três denominações acima mencionadas. Finalizando, tendo como base teórica a filosofia da arquitetura e a hermenêutica filosófica de Gadamer, analisa espaços litúrgicos concretos, projetados e construídos pela arquiteta Maria Inês Bolson Lunardini, especializada em arquitetura sacra na cidade e na área metropolitana de Porto Alegre (RS). Assim o estudo teórico realizado ao longo do corpo do trabalho dialoga com um contexto concreto. A tese mostra que ambão e a mesa/altar são, no contexto do espaço sagrado onde a comunidade de fé é convocada e se congrega, o lugar da Presença viva do Logos Encarnado.
This academic work is a profound and diversified study on the Christian liturgical space, place of gathering of the community of faith with his Lord, Jesus Christ, the incarnated Logos, visible in the Word and in the Bread and Wine of the eucharistical meal, as expressed in the physical foci of the ambo and the altar/table. The consideration of the subject leads, firstly, to the research of the characteristics that the physical space of a theophany must have, entailed to the transcendentals of Beauty, Truth, Goodness and Harmony, meant by Plato as qualities of the divine essence. Attempt is made in order to understand how transcendentals were seen along history and also in the thought of Plotinus, Augustine, Kant and Hegel. Inmediately, in an multidisciplinarian way are introduced the contributions of a theology of aesthetics and sacraments in dialogue with Philosophy, Ethics, History, Architecture, Liturgy and Holy Scripture, with glimpses on the Anglican, Lutheran and Roman Catholic traditions. There are, also, an unfolding on how architects reflect and work around the concrete expressions of the divine immanence and transcendence in Architecture, trying to express the Unexpressable, and relating, in this way, the Fine Art of Architecture to Christian Faith. Following on the way, an accurate research is made on the ambo and the altar, physical foci of the divine Presence, viewing them from the point of view of theological typologies and their use in the three denominations afore said. Finally, and bearing in mind as theoretical base the philosophy of architecture and the philosophical hermeneutics of Gadamer, is made a critic of concrete liturgical spaces, designed and built by the architect Maria Ines Bolson Lunardini, specialized in sacred architecture and working in the city of Porto Alegre (RS) and its metropolitan area. In this manner, the theoretical study developed along this work dialogues with a concrete context. Thesis points out that ambo and altar/table are, in the context of the sacred space where the community of faith is summoned and gathers, the place of the living Presence of the Incarnated Logos.

La mestiza embodies a multiplicity of ancestral locations, ethnicities, and cultures. On the borders and in diaspora, she is often internally divided within a socially constructed white masculinist framework that would have her locate herself from one homeland and identify as either “woman of color” or “white” Interconnected with colonial and patriarchal epistemologies, this study explores how the dominant framework, more often invisibly, encourages racism within the mestizafs psyche and womenes spirituality communities.

This study seeks to heal traumas of racism by employing a transdisciplinary mestiza approach — bearing feminist and indigenous decolonial lenses — to engage with the nuances — in between binary racialized identities where the mestiza is situated. In mestiza situated space are stories of recovering indigeneity by recognizing, grieving, and deconstructing the dominant framework. This study focuses on, in particular, stories of mestizas nutured in colonial mentality as well as contextually read as white.

Recent accounts of the history of Christian theology tend to neglect material concerning widows in antiquity and their contribution to Christian discipleship. In this dissertation I would like to offer a corrective along the lines of studying the contribution of widows in Jewish and Christian antiquity to the Catholic tradition. In particular, I contend that the Jewish roots of the widows’ contribution to Christian theology is also overlooked. The idea of the widow as an “altar of God,” which emerges in early Church literature, requires an understanding of the history of widows and the altar in Jewish and Christian antiquity.

What can be gleaned from mentions of widows, especially the enrolled widows, in the early Church? Firstly, enrolled widows in the early Church had historical precedents in the Old Testament that are sometimes overlooked by scholars, particularly in the omission of the Old Testament widow Judith. Secondly, the altar in Jewish and early Christian antiquity is significant; the altar has many functions and nuances of meaning, which are essential to understand the motif of the widow as the altar of God. Thirdly, these widows in the early Church offer a challenging Christian ethos, which derives from their good works and from a rootedness in ascetic practices that comprise a whole way of life for Christian discipleship.

By and large, extant material on the order of widows dwindles after the fourth century A.D. The history of widows in Jewish and Christian antiquity can inform recent endeavors in the Church to revitalize the ancient vocation of widowhood, and that of belonging to an order of widows. This dissertation proposes to trace the trajectory of the contribution of widows in antiquity to Catholic theology. Moreover, by exploring what the early Church meant when it referred to the widow as the “altar of God,” especially in light of the altar’s many functions, I hope to shed light on an ancient and little studied practice in the Church. I will then show how this study of ancient Christian widows can inform two recent endeavors in the United States to renew the order of widows.

The Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics (CGB) is an academic department at Karolinska Institute. Generally stated, the CGB department is committed to the generation and management of genetic information by approaches aiming at elucidating the connection between genes, protein and function.

WiGID is a genome information database that is available through WAP (Wireless Application Protocol).

Our version of WiGID is based on WML, PHP and PostgreSQL as a database server.

One of the changes on the old WiGID application was the creation of a relational database with seven tables and one view, instead of the file that represented the database on the old version. We also changed the script language from python to PHP.

The search engine ability has been extended with three new search alternatives for a user to choose from. Each choice leads to other, sometimes multiple choices.

A GUI has been created for the administrator, to be able to insert information into the database.

The structure of the search engine is primarily for narrowing down the search result on the phone display, thereby making the search efficient.


Wireless Genome Information Database (WiGID), är en genome information databas och är tillgänglig genom WAP (Wireless Application Protocol).

Några exempel på den ny utvecklade WiGID är navigationsmöjligheterna och applikationens bakomliggande struktur.

Modelleringen av relationsbaserade databasen har gett ökad flexibilitet till applikationen. Den är inte längre statisk och svårhanterlig. Hanteringen av databasen har lösts genom inmatnings skriptet. Inmatnings skriptet hanterar information från en fil som den läser ifrån och lägger informationen i respektive tabell.

Sökmöjligheterna har ökats genom användning av SQL (Structured Query Language). Navigationsmöjligheterna i sökmotorn utökades till sex valmöjligheter istället för tre enligt den äldre versionen. Varje länk går vidare till nya alternativ för att förfina själva sökningen. Sökningen har effektiviserats och valmöjligheterna.

Abstract:
Non-common path aberrations (NCPA) in an adaptive optics system are static aberrations that appear due to the difference in optical path between light arriving at the wavefront sensor (WFS) and at the science detector. If the adaptive optics are calibrated to output an unaberrated wavefront, then any optics outside the path of the light arriving at the WFS inherently introduce aberrations to this corrected wavefront. NCPA corrections calibrate the adaptive optics system such that it outputs a wavefront that is inverse in phase to the aberrations introduced by these non-common path optics, and therefore arrives unaberrated at the science detector, rather than at the output of the corrective elements. Focal plane sharpening (FPS) is one technique used to calibrate for NCPA in adaptive optics systems. Small changes in shape to the deformable element(s) are implemented and images are taken and analyzed for image quality (IQ) on the science detector. This process is iterated until the image quality is maximized and hence the NCPA are corrected. The work carried out as described in this paper employs two FPS techniques at Gemini North to attempt to mitigate up to 33% of the adaptive optics performance and image quality degradations currently under investigation. Changes in the NCPA correction are made by varying the Zernike polynomial coefficients in the closed-loop correction file for Altair (the facility adaptive optics system). As these coefficients are varied during closed-loop operation, a calibration point-source at the focal plane of the telescope is imaged through Altair and NIRI (the facility near-infrared imager) at f/32 in K-prime (2.12 μm). These images are analyzed to determine the Strehl ratio, and a parabolic fit is used to determine the appropriate coefficient correction that maximizes the Strehl ratio. Historic calibrations of the NCPA file in Altair's control loop were done at night on a celestial point source, and used a separate, high-resolution WFS (with its own inherent aberrations not common to either NIRI nor Altair) to measure phase corrections directly. In this paper it is shown that using FPS on a calibration source negates both the need to use costly time on the night sky and the use of separate optical systems (which introduce their own NCPA) for analysis. An increase of 6% in Strehl ratio is achieved (an improvement over current NCPA corrections of 11%), and discussions of future improvements and extensions of the technique is presented. Furthermore, a potentially unknown problem is uncovered in the form of high spatial frequency degradation in the PSF of the calibration source.

In the Bible certain objects appear in association with an individual character or characters and in particular narrative events. Rabbinic exegesis places these objects in new and innovative contexts. That is, the Rabbinic exegetes speak of the object's origin, history and fate: the circumstances under which the object was created, how it came into the possession of a Biblical character, its destiny, and, in some cases, its role in the Messianic era. This thesis examines Rabbinic interpretations of eight Biblical objects: Adam's garments, Abraham's ram, Solomon's throne, the staffs, asses, altars and wells used by various characters, and a divine fire. This is the first collection of the numerous parallel sources that deal with each of these objects. The traditions regarding these objects illustrate the Rabbis' concern with unity and continuity: different Biblical characters and events are linked together by means of the objects. The Rabbinic idea of the transmission of Biblical objects parallels the Rabbis' view of their own literature as having been transmitted through the generations.
