Abstract:

Abstract:
Five new intramolecularly coordinated aluminum species, whose molecular structures have been elucidated in solution by NMR spectroscopy and in the solid state by single crystal X-ray analysis, are described. All species are equipped with a trisyl-based ligand with a pyridyl donor group [Pytsi stands for -C(SiMe3)2SiMe2(2-C5H4N)]. While the compound (Pytsi)AlMeCl was accessible either from Li(THF)(Pytsi) and MeAlCl2 or from (Pytsi)AlCl2 and LiMe, the tert-butyl derivative (Pytsi)AltBuCl could only be obtained from Li(THF)(Pytsi) and tBuAlCl2. Attempted synthesis of (Pytsi)AltBuCl from (Pytsi)AlCl2 and LitBu or from (Pytsi)AlCl2 and tBuMgCl failed. Three other compounds (3-5) were synthesized and can be described as derivatives of (Pytsi)AlMe2 with additional groups in the ortho position of the pyridyl group. Compound 3 carried a Me group in the ortho position, while compounds 4 and 5 were equipped with Ph and 2,6-diisopropylphenyl moieties, respectively.Key words: aluminum, trisyl ligands, methyl alanes.

Abstract:
AbstractThe chlorine functionalized dialkynylsilane (4-tBu-C6H4)(Cl)Si(C≡C-tBu)2 (3) reacted with equimolar quantities of H–AltBu2 or H–GatBu2 by hydrometallation of a C≡C triple bond and formation of mixed alkenyl-alkynylsilanes (4 and 5) in which the Si and Lewis acidic metal atoms adopt geminal positions at the α-C atoms of the alkenyl groups. Intramolecular M···Cl interactions (M=Al, Ga) afforded four-membered SiCMCl heterocycles which in comparison with 3 had significantly lengthened Si–Cl bonds. Dual hydrometallation of 3 was only observed for H–GatBu2. One Ga atom of the product (6) was coordinated by the silicon-bound Cl atom, while the second one showed an interaction with the aromatic ring of the tert-butyl-phenyl group. Treatment of the aluminium compound 4 with two equivalents of H–GatBu2 afforded a Si–H bond by Cl-H exchange and release of Cl–AltBu2. The resulting silane (7) has the Si atom and two Ga atoms bridged by the α-C atoms of two vinyl groups. The specific functionality of 4 caused a remarkable reactivity. Phenyl isocyanate reacted by the formal insertion into the Al–C(vinyl) and the activated Si–Cl bonds and resulted in the formation of a C–C bond. The product (8) has a SiC2N heterocycle with an Si–N bond and exocyclic C=C and C=O double bonds. The keto group is coordinated to a Cl–AltBu2 molecule, which was formed by the shift of the Cl atom from silicon to aluminium.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The di(tert-butyl)aluminum halides, tBu2AlX (X = Br, I) have been prepared in yields ranging from 55 to 64% from AlX3 and LitBu in a 1 : 2 molar ratio in pentane. In the crystal these pyrophoric compounds are dimeric featuring Al-X-Al bridges. The reaction of AlCl3 with LitBu in diethyl ether produced a volatile solvate of composition tBu3Al-Cl-AltBu2(OEt2). Reaction of this species with AlCl3 at 120 ◦C yielded a separable mixture of tBu2AlCl and tBu2AlCl(OEt2). tBu2AlCl and tBu2GaCl react with tBu2PLi to produce the monomeric compounds tBu2E-PtBu2 (E = Al, Ga). The aluminum compound decomposes at 111 °C to give a mixture of the cis/trans-isomers of [tBu(H)Al- PtBu2]2 while at 200 °C only the trans-isomer is formed.

Abstract:
tmpAlBr2 (tmp = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino) was prepared from AlBr3 and tmp2AlBr at 90 °C in the absence of a solvent, but could not be crystallised from toluene or hexane because it reacted with the solvents to form tmpH·AlBr3 in high yield. tmpH·AlMeCl2, obtained from the components, decomposes at elevated temperatures but no tmpAlCl2 could be isolated. Attempts to generate the cation [tmp-Al-tmp]+ from tmp2AlBr or tmp2AlCl by halide abstraction with B(C6F5)3, Ph3C(SnCl5) or SbCl5 or from tmp2AlR (R = Me, Ph) and B(C6F5)3 have failed. An unexpected reaction occurred on treatment of tmp-B=P(tBu)AlBr3 with BH3 in THF which led to the formation of [AlBr2(thf)4][AlBr4]. The attempted synthesis of tBu2Al(tmp) from tBu2AlBr and Li(tmp) gave a product which, on exposure to CO2 at dry ice temperature, yielded the salt [(tBuAl)2(O2C(tmp))3][tBu3Al-Br-AltBu3] in low yield. All isolated products were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and by X-ray determination of their molecular structures.

Abstract:
The exile of European architects in the Americas is one of the main events in the history of modern twentieth century architecture. This research concerns the trajectory of Alexander Altberg as a case study in this exile process. He was a Berliner architect who immigrated to Rio de Janeiro in 1931, and was also a former student of the Bauhaus and apprentice of the prominent architect Arthur Korn. Altberg acted not only as an architect and main producer of the avant-gardist Base magazine, but also as an important representative of German modernism in the Brazilian modernist network. In Brazil, he had contact with modernist groups from Sao Paulo, such as CAM and SPAM, with the AAB and Pró-Arte in Rio, and with the main figures of the Brazilian modernist context: L. Segall, G. Warchavchik, M. de Andrade, L. Costa, among others. As many German immigrants in the 30s, the exercise of his professor was vetted by the Vargas government and his memory eclipsed by the dominance of the Carioca School. The memory of Altberg, as well as the first modern architects in Brazil, is the main subject of this research and critique of architecture.
