Full textThis interdisciplinary Master thesis is a conceptual investigation of power and reality (in a sense of authenticity as well). The following concepts which are hardly distinguishable from each other are analyzed via three theoretical layers – hyperreality, orientalism and the late modernity which works both as a catalyst for these processes and as a logistical tool. The relation between power and reality is revealed not through physical subjugation of the weaker but rather through the attempts to modify reality and with the help of images to create hyperreality that is subordinated to self-interests of the mighty. As the case study the power implicated hyperreality of United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the second modernity that conditioned it has been chosen. Empirical and theoretical analysis reveals that spectacular Emirati cultural objects, illustrated by lexical hyperboles and breath-taking images merely is a simulacra that does not reflect reality or local culture but seeks to alter that reality. Furthermore UAE is a new kind of simulacra characterized by accepting and transforming into “their own” the foreign culture that is alien to the one found within local cultural context in order to obtain symbolic recognition. The symbolic recognition of Emirati as one of the hubs of global power is both the catalyst of Emirati modernization and the instrument of legitimacy of the ruling elite. This recognition is pursued by ‘pharaonic’ cultural objects (cultural utopia) and... [to full text]

Full textThis thesis engages the question of community in husserlian and post-husserlian phenomenology, concentrating on the concept of the “lifeworld” (Lebenswelt), especially in The Crisis of European Sciences and Transcendental Phenomenology. At the crossroads between two major stages of Husserl’s development, of which we will reveal the implications, we question the lifeworld through the phenomenological analysis of the processes of incorporation and incarnation. We demonstrate that Husserl straightaway surmounted the impasses met by his successors, by refusing an exclusive opposition between the fields of immanence and transcendence in order to, on the contrary, propose their interlacing. Starting with resumption of the radical critique of naturalist objectivism, the stakes are to deepen the forms of intricacy between the ecological sphere and world-horizon. From there, we designate intersubjective praxis as the basis of the dynamics of community formation, which we understand in terms of forms of life

Full textThe purpose of this dissertation is to study the influences of the norm on the representations of friendship and its practice in France during the 16th and the 17th centuries. The corpus draws aside both intellectuals and women to focus on the non-enclosed people. How two individuals are able to make friends with each other in the 16th and 17th centuries within a society itself thought in terms of friendship? This dissertation divides in two volumes. The first one is devoted to the study itself. The philosophical inheritance is presented, along with considerations on bonds linking the friend, the society, the couple and the family during the Modern Times. Questions of linguistics are also raised. The evolution of a friendship between two men is followed step by step from birth to death, as if it were a genuine living organism. Gestures and tokens of friendship are the bases of friendship. The latter is always endangered by the fragile balance between the social demands and the requirements of friendship. In the second volume are presented the methodology used to gather the documentary corpus, as well as our historical sources and bibliography. Reasons why women were excluded from our research work make the core of a specific chapter

A discussão acerca do gênero textual envolve Biografia, Autobiografia, Retrato, Confissão, Diário, Ensaio. _______________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This dissertation addresses issues concerning Joyce’s writing. The conceptual persona Stephen Dedalus undertakes the writing of the text and acts as an artificer, letting the text work issues such as aspects of its creation, a certain trait of hospitality, its consequences and reflections on genre. Derrida’s hospitality, which is also discussed from the standpoint of translation, is revealed as a conceptual opening up. At this point the cyclical text-reader-text relationship and the laws governing it are then discussed. The discussion on genre involves Biography, Autobiography, Portrait, Confession, Diary, Essay; all the possible pacts readerauthor- text, and then the biographical pact and biographical space. Finally, the issues of criation converse with Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari on the plane of immanence, composition and what matters most importantly, Stephen Dedalus as a conceptual persona.
DI, MAIO FABRIZIO. "L'opera di Ottiero Ottieri." Doctoral thesis, Università degli Studi di Roma "Tor Vergata", 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/2108/1284.
Full textThe subject of this thesis concerns the Ottieriâ s literary work from his first novel Memorie dellâ incoscienza (1954) to Una irata sensazione di peggioramento (2002), analysing three themes which come over his poetry: industry, sanatorium and politics. The thesis is planned on seven chapters. In the introduction, the characteristics of Ottieriâ s novels are developed: original and unclassifiable, Ottieri has organized an extensive literary project through thirty works connected by a continuous plot of themes and leitmotivs which are linked on different subject as Italian and European literature, history, psychiatry, art, politics. In the first chapter, the Ottieriâ s youthful devotion to fascism is analysed in the light of his own memories (Memorie dellâ incoscienza), an autobiographic novel in which an alter ego (Lorenzo Bandini) analyses the dramatic issues of Italy during the Second World War. In the second chapter the emergent theme concerns the industrial world through four works (two novels: Tempi stretti and Donnarumma allâ assalto, the diary La linea gotica and the play I venditori di Milano) which allow him to be the â pioneerâ of Italian industrial literature. From the third to the fifth chapter, the principal theme which comes over is mental illness; depression, schizophrenia, alienation are bound to be the centre of his literary works and not only of his life. The sixth chapter studies two novels, La storia del PSI and Il poema osceno, which are the summary of his political ideas. The seventh chapter is about the last works of Ottieri; aware of his imminent death, the poet describes his life as a borderline individual and as an unsuccessful writer.

Full textIn France, biography was said to be close to its death at the end of the twentieth century, but J.-B. Pontalis and other editors helped promoting its renewal. Biographical relationship is being explored by L’un et l’autre under the focus of fatherhood, motherhood and care. These topics are less things than words, they belong to literature and language, and to a peculiar language. L’un et l’autre reflects the literary work of J.-B. Pontalis : one had an impact on the other and then the other way round. This is true for the human, animal and objectal topics which are spread throughout L’un et l’autre and may be called variorum of otherness. The other being or the other thing might be brother, sister, place or time, the last one referring especially to the Holocaust. In L’un et l’autre as well as in the work of Pontalis, the writer may find his alter ego in a painter or a musician, words can become pictures or tunes. Nevertheless the best mirror for a writer, and a biographer is a writer indeed, is another writer. More and more, the books edited by J.-B. Pontalis evolved from biography of the other towards biography of the self, following thus the late work of Pontalis as a writer. During the late life and after the death of J.-B. Pontalis, a « autographic » way of writing was born, the widespread topics of which show that french literature performed and still performs a comeback towards its second self : life

Full textTiivistelmä Kirjailija Markku Lahtela oli keskeinen hahmo vanhan polven perusarvoja arvostelleessa 1960-luvun sukupolvikapinassa, jota nimitettiin 60-lukulaisuudeksi ja jossa nuoret taiteilijat esittelivät avantgardistisia ideoitaan. Tutkimuksen ajallinen pääkohde on 1960-luvun alkupuoli. Tutkimuksessani korostuu ulkokirjallinen historiallinen konteksti.

Full textIn this work, the epipolythiodiketopiperazine family of natural products is reviewed, leading to a discussion of the probable biosynthetic pathways by which these complex molecules are produced in nature. A laboratory synthesis based on this proposed biosynthesis was subsequently proposed and undertaken.
The oxidation of aromatic systems was investigated, which led to the synthesis, for the first time, of complex functionalised arene oxides such as 178. The regioselective epoxidation of 178 was accessed by derivatisation as the Diels-Alder adduct 180. Subsequent epoxidation and manipulation led to the amino alcohol 195b, possessing the exo-epoxide endo-alcohol stereochemistry shown.
This stereochemical assignment was based on detailed NMR analysis of the product, and also on AM1 semi-empirical molecular modelling and Ab initio molecular orbital calculations, which were used to evaluate the relative stabilities of the cyclisation products.

Full textIn Punch-Drunk Love (2002), Paul Thomas Anderson applies a unique creative process that reveals the very inner workings of enunciation in the film. His filmic approach functions to distance the spectator from the film and, to various degrees, challenges the spectator to question the codes that create an aesthetic of illusion. Drawing on Christian Metz’s abstract approach to enunciation, this thesis proposes to analyse the filmic enunciation of Anderson’s film. By means of this theoretical approach, we become aware that the enunciation of the film stimulates the spectator into realizing that the implied meaning of the enunciation is one that can be understood within its own self. The “who” and the “what” are no longer questions that are answered from the “outside”. The “who” is the film and the “what” resides in it. What we are observing is the self–reflexive nature of enunciation.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Abstract: In the beginning of the last century’s 70’s decade, David Bowie released a conceptual album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, about an alien who came to earth to bring salvation. To make is concerts more appealing in an esthetic point of view and to overcome his own shyness when he presented himself on stage, Bowie created the alter-ego Ziggy Stardust. The path laid down by the singer in this stage of his artistic career can be compared to the one led by Dr. Jekyll, the main character of the literary work of Robert Louis Stevenson, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The doctor and the singer developed alter-egos which, initially, helped them to achieve their goals. Bowie performed unique shows, presenting himself in a distinctively irreverent way for that time and Dr. Jekyll gave wings to his desire to break the moral convention codes of the Victorian times. By the present dissertation, it is our aim to establish the parallel between the life experiences of the singer and Stevenson’s character, regarding their relation with the alter-ego, the way they both dealt with them, the drug consumption and the consequences to their personalities
