Flexible AC Transmission System FACTS refers to a family of power electronics based devices designed to increase power transfer capability of power transmission system. The main objective of FACTS is to obtain AC systems with a high level of flexibility just as in high voltage DC systems. FACTS uses power electronics for controlling power flow in a transmission system. This paper provides a brief introduction to FACTS devices or controllers. Matthew N. O. Sadiku | Adedamola A. Generally, the electrical power supply acts as a voltage source only but many applications, current sources are needed. In conventional methods, to provide a current source, an electric power supply with variable voltage is adjusted to give the amount of current. In some electrical applications and devices, there is a demand to have a constant voltage with a variable current. This paper proposes a single phase alternating current controller as a power supply with a current source that can be adjusted using the hysteresis method. A definition of the "reactive power" concept needs to be clarified, since in the literature it is often given extremely vaguely, which causes difficulties in students' perception and is not entirely clear to the general public. Analysis of numerous sources shows that the physical meaning of this concept almost escapes the definitions given in these sources. Moreover, the formula by which the reactive power is calculated raises no objections. However, it does not explain the physical meaning of the concept. The need for a capacious definition that reflects the physical meaning is long overdue.

It is proposed to measure the equivalent series resistance of various chemical current sources by the method of periodic interruption of the charge current or of the discharge current for a given time period. The current interruption frequency and duration could be selected from a wide range of values. By changing the current interruption duration, it becomes possible to significantly vary conditions in measuring the equivalent series resistance. Thus, when the current is interrupted for 0.5 ms, the proposed method approaches the resistance measurement by the alternating current method with a

Recent developments in renewable energy installations in buildings have highlighted the potential improvement in energy efficiency provided by direct current (DC) distribution over traditional alternating current (AC) distribution. This is explained by the increase in DC load types and energy storage systems such as batteries, while renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics (PVs) produce electricity in DC form. In order to connect a DC distribution system to the alternating current grid (e.g., for backup, delivering energy storage to the grid) there is a need for a bidirectional inverter,
