Integrative medicine (IM) has organized as a new area of specialization in mainstream healthcare. The development of IM is widely attributed to popular demand for the range of therapies known collectively as Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). During the 1990's the rate of acceptance of CAM accelerated among consumers, professions, financing and education. The Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) measured CAM utilization and professional service provision during the years 1996 and 1998, but never since. These surveys were unique because they specifically inquired as to whether CAM

Even though successfully and widely used, platinum has undesirable toxic side effects including nephrotoxocity, nausea, vomiting and neurotoxicity. The electrification of passenger vehicles has been a step towards the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by automobiles; however, in the United States many plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) must still be plugged in to a grid that is heavily reliant on the burning of fossil fuels to charge. The goal of this thesis is to investigate how to develop a system capable of fully charging a PHEV using only alternative and/or regenerative energy sources. Abstract:
This dissertation investigates scientific studies of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) as episodes of scientific boundary work: these studies shift, and then seek to fix, the boundaries between what counts as proper medical science and what does not. Rhetoric scholars have mapped sites of boundary work both in science and in various CAM practices, but there is still some question of how biomedicine itself responds to challenges to its borders—and, by extension, challenges to its social and epistemic authority. This dissertation examines the rhetorical constituents of biomedical boun
