Abstract:
Excavation of a Neolithic settlement of the Altheim culture and analysis of the finds demonstrated that its inhabitants made optimal use of raw materials available in the immediate vicinity and supplemented these with selected material from distances usually not more than 40 km away. Some contact with Switzerland and Austria is also indicated. Survey of other sites in the area indicate that there was dense occupation of the river flood plain, possibly linked with upland settlements.

Abstract:
In this paper, we assess using two alternative allocation schemes, namely exergy and primary energy saving (PES) to compare products generated in different combined heat and power (CHP) geothermal systems. In particular, the adequacy and feasibility of the schemes recommended for allocation are demonstrated by their application to three relevant and significantly different case studies of geothermal CHPs, i.e., (1) Chiusdino in Italy, (2) Altheim in Austria, and (3) Hellisheidi in Iceland. The results showed that, given the generally low temperature level of the cogenerated heat (80–100 °C, usually exploited in district heating), the use of exergy allocation largely marginalizes the importance of the heat byproduct, thus, becoming almost equivalent to electricity for the Chiusdino and Hellisheidi power plants. Therefore, the PES scheme is found to be the more appropriate allocation scheme. Additionally, the exergy scheme is mandatory for allocating power plants’ environmental impacts at a component level in CHP systems. The main drawback of the PES scheme is its country dependency due to the different fuels used, but reasonable and representative values can be achieved based on average EU heat and power generation efficiencies.

Abstract:
The relation of Ovid's Fasti to Roman religion has been discussed many times, but has never been dealt with properly. Despite a radical re-evaluation, in recent years, of Ovid's literary sophistication, scholars of Roman religion still tend to offer a negative judgment on Ovid's value. Criticisms have been varied. Ovid's unseriousness – frivolous tales in a context so solemn–has been considered exasperating. He has been accused (for example by Fr. Altheim) of lacking any religious sense whatsoever and of destroying respect for religion. Others, like Wissowa, have judged him to possess neither wide scholarship nor even the capacity of bringing his analyses to any proper conclusion. And it is not just authorities of the past who talk in these terms of moral outrage. Even today many historians of religion ignore or even reject the Fasti as any kind of reliable ‘source’. His causae are, they say, incomplete and incoherent; and he is further criticized for being unable to make a final decision between all the explanations he offers. In the camp of the Ovidiomastiges, shocked by the poet's amateurishness, one also finds those interested in Rome's mythology: evidence earlier than the Fasti being missing in most of the cases, the mythologists deeply resent Ovid's elusive art which frustrates their expectations. I will not here reconsider all the criticism nor will I offer a final defence or condemnation of the author of the Fasti, I will simply claim that there is no case to answer.

Abstract:
During recent decades, Althenia with two species in Eurasia and Africa was accepted as one of four genera of submerged aquatics comprising the family Zannichelliaceae. Molecular phylogenetic data confirmed monophyly of Zannichelliaceae in its traditional circumscription but placed the clade together with Potamogeton and its segregate genera, so that Zannichelliaceae is currently placed in synonymy of Potamogetonaceae. Recent molecular data demonstrated that Eurasian and African species traditionally placed in Althenia s.str. are nested within the Australasian (Australia and New Zealand) Lepilaena. As a result, the two genera were combined under the name Althenia s.l. The present study describes a new species, A. hearnii T. Macfarlane & D.D. Sokoloff from southwestern Western Australia which fills a morphological gap between species traditionally placed in Althenia s.str. and Lepilaena, thus supporting molecular phylogenetic evidence for lumping the two genera. The new species has a polysymmetric circular stigma like Althenia s.str. but 12-sporangiate anther like most species traditionally classified in Lepilaena. Like some other Australian species, Althenia hearnii is dioecious with dimorphic male and female inflorescences. The dimorphism includes the presence of a ligule in leaves within male inflorescences and the absence of a ligule in leaves within female inflorescences as well as strong differences in internode length between male and female inflorescences. A new combination Althenia patentifolia (E.L. Robertson) T. Macfarlane & D.D. Sokoloff is also made in order to allow Althenia to be fully applied in Australia. A revised key to the species of Althenia is provided.

Abstract:
A new species Althenia tzvelevii is described from south western Australia. This is the second species after A. bilocularis described with bilocular anthers. Illustrations of plant morphology are provided by means of SEM images and habitat photographs are included. The phylogenetic relationships of the new species were investigated using five plastid DNA markers (matK, ndhF, rbcL, rpoB, and rpoC1), with published sequences augmented by several new sequences resulting in coverage of all described species in the genus. Althenia tzvelevii forms a clade with A. patentifolia and A. bilocularis and other relationships within the genus are clarified. The Western Australian Althenia hearnii is strongly supported as sister to the Eurasian-African clade composed by A. filiformis and A. orientalis.

✓ Of 243 patients who underwent intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring after severe head injury, 42 (17%) were found to have severe persistently raised ICP, in spite of hyperventilation, mannitol, and surgical decompression. Althesin was infused to reduce ICP in these patients. This agent was shown to be effective and safe in reducing ICP, and a significant improvement in cerebral perfusion pressure was demonstrated. In this respect, Althesin may be more effective than barbiturates. However, no improvement in patient outcome was demonstrated in this series.

Abstract:
Althea (Hibiscus syriacus) is a shrub prized for its winterhardiness and colorful summer flowers. Altheas are tetraploids (2n = 4x = 80); however, breeders have developed hexaploids and octoploids. Previous studies report anatomical variation among polyploids, including stomata size. The purpose of this study was 4-fold. First, identify genome size and ploidy variation in cultivars via flow cytometry and chromosome counts. Second, create a ploidy series consisting of 4x, 5x, 6x, and 8x cytotypes. Third, investigate the ploidy series for variation in stomatal guard cell lengths, stomatal density, and copy number of fluorescent ribosomal DNA (rDNA) signals. Fourth, investigate segregation patterns of rDNA signals in a subset of pentaploid seedlings. Flow cytometry revealed most cultivars to be tetraploid with holoploid 2C genome sizes from 4.55 ± 0.02 to 4.78 ± 0.06 pg. Five taxa (‘Aphrodite’, ‘Pink Giant’, ‘Minerva’, Azurri Satin®, and Raspberry Smoothie™) were hexaploids (6.68 ± 0.13 to 7.05 ± 0.18 pg). Peppermint Smoothie™ was a cytochimera with tetraploid cells (4.61 ± 0.06 pg) and octoploid cells (8.98 ± 0.13 pg). To create pentaploids, reciprocal combinations were made between hexaploid ‘Pink Giant’ and tetraploid cultivars. To create octoploids, seedlings were treated with agar solutions containing 0.2% colchicine or 125 μM oryzalin. Guard cell lengths were significantly different among the four cytotypes: 4x (27.36 ± 0.04 μm), 5x (30.35 ± 1.28 μm), 6x (35.59 ± 0.63 μm), and 8x (40.48 ± 1.05 μm). Measurements of stomatal density revealed a precipitous decline in average density from the 4x cytotype (398.22 ± 15.43 stomata/mm2) to 5x cytotype (194.06 ± 38.69 stomata/mm2) but no significant difference among 5x, 6x, and 8x cytotypes. Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) revealed an increase in 5S and 45S rDNA signals that scaled with ploidy: 4x (two 5S + four 45S), 6x (three 5S + six 45S), and 8x (four 5S + eight 45S). However, pentaploid (5x) seedlings exhibited random segregation of rDNA signals between the 4x and 6x cytotypes, including all six possible combinations (two 5S, three 5S) × (four 45S, five 45S, six 45S).

Abstract:
This article assesses the EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) in the Western Balkans, with a focus on EUFOR Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Althea is a military operation that conducts mainly civilian functions as well as the training of the Bah Armed Forces; its 'civilianisation' is symptomatic of CSDP's orientation as a mainly civilian crisis management instrument. Althea works within the framework of the Union's 'comprehensive approach' to regional development and the accession process of the Western Balkans to the EU. I argue that the mission displays the bureaucratic modus operandi of CSDP and not a Grand Strategy approach. Nevertheless, CSDP's incremental, lowest-common-denominator, low cost, low risk bureaucratic politics have enabled a form of emergent strategy that complements the Union's multi-instrument and comprehensive approach to development throughout the Western Balkans. I further suggest that the EU Global Strategy (EUGS) and the newly activated Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) provides opportunities for EU member states to build on low key emergent strategy to ensure that CSDP develops the substance and actor ness needed to address current threats.

Abstract:
The cardiovascular effects of althesin (ALT) and urethan-chloralose (UC) anesthesia were compared in conscious, chronically instrumented rats. Althesin had no effect on arterial pressure or base-line resistance in the renal, superior mesenteric, and hindquarters vasculatures but increased heart rate. In contrast, UC decreased arterial pressure, heart rate, and mesenteric resistance. Although UC attenuated depressor responses to nitroglycerin, neither anesthetic significantly altered regional vascular reactivity to intravenous phenylephrine and nitroglycerin. The cardiac chronotropic baroreflex was examined by comparing the slope of the curves relating maximal changes (delta) in heart rate (pulse interval) that occurred at the point coinciding in time with the maximal changes in mean arterial pressure produced by phenylephrine and nitroglycerin. Neither anesthetic significantly altered the baroreflex slope (delta pulse interval/delta mean arterial pressure) for pressor and depressor stimuli. Both anesthetics attenuated the sympathoexcitatory response to cerebroventricular angiotensin II, although ALT had less of a depressive effect (pressor response during ALT and UC = 65 and 30%, respectively, of conscious). Plasma renin activity (PRA) and the hemodynamic response to peripheral angiotensin-receptor antagonism were significantly increased (PRA by almost 6-fold) during UC, whereas ALT was without effect. Similarly, UC but not ALT induced vasopressin-dependent vascular tone. Ganglionic blockade indicated that peripheral neurogenic tone was not altered by ALT anesthesia. These data suggest that althesin produces fewer hemodynamic disturbances than urethan-chloralose and largely maintains cardiovascular regulation intact.

Abstract:
Abstract The often bemoaned crisis of West German cinema in the 1980s coincided with a dramatic changing of the nation’s film critical guard. The symptomatic impetus that had figured so strongly during the postwar era gave way to the so-called new subjectivism of young critics like Michael Althen, Claudius Seidl, and Andreas Kilb. They looked askance at the formal complexity and political activism of most art house fare and above all found themselves smitten by mainstream American features. Taking their cue from Susan Sontag and her essay “Against Interpretation,” these postmodern existentialists cultivated a highly personalized, indeed rarefied form of poetic empiricism. This study analyzes their sensibility and rhetoric, their emphases and oversights. It focuses on Dominik Graf’s essay film, Was heißt hier Ende? (Then Is It the End?, 2015), a tribute to Althen and the cohort of young critics with whom he worked and interacted.

Altham (Altham PME. Exact Bayesian analysis of a 2 × 2 contingency table, and Fisher’s “exact” significance test. J R Stat Soc B 1969; 31: 261–269) showed that a one-sided p-value from Fisher’s exact test of independence in a 2 × 2 contingency table is equal to the posterior probability of negative association in the 2 × 2 contingency table under a Bayesian analysis using an improper prior. We derive an extension of Fisher’s exact test p-value in the presence of missing data, assuming the missing data mechanism is ignorable (i.e., missing at random or completely at random). Further, we propose Bayesian p-values for a test of independence in a 2 × 2 contingency table with missing data using alternative priors; we also present results from a simulation study exploring the Type I error rate and power of the proposed exact test p-values. An example, using data on the association between blood pressure and a cardiac enzyme, is presented to illustrate the methods.

Abstract:
This paper evaluates the planning capacity of two Common Security and Defence (CSDP) missions (EULEX Kosovo and EUFOR Althea) in order to assess the effectiveness of CSDP planning process. Both missions suffer due to partial interests within the EU and low positioning of CSDP on political agendas of the member states. Compared to NATO, EU missions' political control is more much detailed once the mission is deployed. CSDP planning architecture has been considerably reformed since the inception of the first missions in 2003, however the supervision by the member states is still present in all phases of restructuring and implementation. EULEX planning process includes a well elaborated lessons learnt process, however the implementation of the findings on the operational level is rather weak whereas EUFOR Althea profited mostly from the access to NATO planning assets. CSDP missions are political missions and their effectiveness seems to be of secondary importance to the EU member states.

Abstract:
Aloe vera soothing gel is one of the best-selling products and the most widely reviewed on the Althea Korea website. This product has been reviewed by 1,448 users on the Althea website. The result of the research can be used to minimize mistakes in product purchases. Besides, through a review of a product, the company can analyze the level of customer satisfaction and can be a suggestion for improvements in the future. Therefore, a system is needed to analyze the sentiment towards aloe vera soothing gel to determine the review as a positive or negative sentiment. The method used in this research is the Naïve Bayes method and uses the classification carried out by linguists as a reference for determining positive and negative sentiment. There are two tests carried out in this research, namely confusion matrix testing and black-box testing. The result of the confusion matrix test found an accuracy of 94.62% and the result of black-box testing showed that the output produced was by the application functionality.

Abstract:
Two nematode species found in Lake Baikal, Gorevoi Utes (Russia) are presented. Eutobrilus mirandus sp. n. differs from all other species of the genus Eutobrilus by the markedly anterior position of the vulva (V=26–31%). The new species is similar to E. andrassyi Altherr, 1963 in body size and stoma structure but differs in the comparatively thicker body (males, a = 32–45 versus a = 60–75), shorter stoma (males, 26–27 µm long versus 35–40 µm long), longer spicules (48–53 µm versus 40 µm), and absence of crystalloids. A redescription and new illustrations of Paratrilobus delicatus (Shoshin, 1988) Andrássy, 2007, including a description of the previously unknown females, are also given.

Abstract:
Althea (Hibiscus syriacus) is an ornamental shrub prized for its winterhardiness, flower colors, and unique flower forms, including single-flowered and double-flowered types. Although floral traits are most important for breeders of althea, little is known about their segregation patterns. The objective of this study was to determine segregation patterns in flower color, including eyespot, among hybrid seedlings of elite taxa. Over 4 years, more than 3100 flowering seedlings were produced for observation of F1, F2, and backcross families. For each plant, data were collected including presence of eyespot and petal body color (CIEL*a*b*) using a colorimeter. Recessive testcrosses and χ2 analyses were performed among three taxa (‘Buddha Belly’, ‘Diana’, and White Chiffon®), and between this recessive group and a suite of colorful taxa. Self-pollination and intercrosses within homozygous dominant and homozygous recessive groups further confirmed their genotypes. Based on these results, we propose that eyespot is controlled by a single gene called spotless, named for the recessive allele that results in a complete elimination of color in flowers. Crosses that resulted in seedlings that all produced eyespots were observed to segregate for color in the petal body. Of these, one group produced white to blush pink petals, which was recessive to full color. Recessive testcrosses and χ2 analyses were performed among nine taxa exhibiting eyespots with white to blush petal bodies, and between taxa with full-color petal bodies. These testcrosses resulted in a putative homozygous dominant group composed mostly of blue and dark pink taxa, whereas the heterozygous group was composed mostly of pink taxa. Spotless taxa were also added to these two groups, suggesting an epistatic interaction with the spotless allele. Based on these results, we propose that petal body color is controlled by a single gene called geisha, named for the recessive allele that produces white to blush-pink petal bodies and dark red eyespot. This trait exhibits incomplete dominance and is under epistatic control by spotless. Geisha-type flowers lack pigment in the petal body, or exhibit a blush pink, likely produced by low levels of cyanidin, peonidin, and pelargonidin. The interaction and segregation of these two genes was confirmed in F1, F2, and backcross families from two crosses: Lil’ Kim™ × Blue Chiffon™ and Fiji™ × White Chiffon®. This study on segregation of flower color in H. syriacus contributes substantial and useful information on inheritance of color and will facilitate targeted breeding to improve this vibrant ornamental shrub.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which qualified training was given to trainees of Armed Forces of Bosnia & Herzegovina by trainers of eufor Operation Althea. To that end data were collected from 135 trainees. Differences between trainees’ expectations from and perceptions of training were assessed. Results indicated that training was responsive and empathetic, on the other hand not tangible, reliable and sure enough according to trainees. Findings suggest that in order to create desired effects on trainees, within scope of peacekeeping operations, trainers should be knowledgeable and accurate. In addition, a proper learning atmosphere should be provided.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The binomial beauty and youth, so commonly used in women's representations in media, translates aesthetic standards that have already been questioned, but still serve as a parameter for readers' comments and comparisons of women who were considered beautiful in their youth and no longer have the expected image. To discuss this scenario, we chose examples that point to female aging of public figures, adopting as background for reflection the perspectives of ageism pointed out by Castro (2015, 2016); the concept of the body as capital in Goldenberg (2006, 2010, 2012, 2015); and fear in Augé (2013), Altheide (2002) and Bauman (2008). Upon debating how media increases nonconformity with the body itself, we also address the efforts that have been observed in the area of persuasive communication with the presence of people considered outside the stereotype of beauty hitherto imposed, as well as discussing reactions of who wants that famous people stay young and beautiful. KEYWORDS: Ageing; Fear; Consumption; Advertising; Media.
