This article describes the perspectives of alumni of National Civic Service (NCS) in Israel on its impact at the individual level. We compared 250 young women who were identified as youth at risk with 295 mainstream volunteers. Overall, the two groups show similar outcomes that are typical to this developmental stage of life. Yet youth at risk experience more difficulties. While NCS aims at increasing equality between groups, it seems that it is not enough to bridge the gaps between the groups. The findings imply a need for a continued intervention to accompany the at-risk alumni that would le

AbstractThis case addresses the challenge of leadership succession in a highly respected master’s program at a university in Australia. The director, who was also the program’s lead professor, was due to retire, and the distinctive nature of the program made it particularly difficult to find a suitable replacement. To complicate the challenge, the university’s central administration was not supportive of that master’s degree, whereas it achieved the highest satisfaction ratings in the university from students and enjoyed good support from industry; the director’s insistence on quality of educational experience resulted in tight control of student admission, fewer students, and lower revenue than competing programs.A highly engaged group of students and alumni took on this challenge, working with the outgoing director to sustain impressive results over a 5-year period.

A small percentage of former missionaries become priests and sisters. But, most FOCUS alumni get married, have children, join local parishes, and find work in positions ranging from corporate America to diocesan offices to service-oriented nonprofits. They join local moms’ groups and softball leagues and they start Bible studies and knitting clubs. These millennial-generation Catholics are trained and motivated to encourage Catholic identity in parishes across the country. This chapter describes the opportunities that arise from the use of social media as an effective communication network between an educational institution and its stakeholders. Four examples of Polish tertiary institutions’ use of social media sites to communicate with stakeholders are analysed. Particular emphasis is placed on the “Connection” communication model developed by the Faculty of International Relations and Political Science at the University of Lodz, which is innovative by Polish standards. The goal of the Connection project is to implement a modern communications system that is based on a copyrighted social media site, the objective being to integrate the environment surrounding the faculty, as well as providing a tool that enables easier communication between four stakeholder groups: students, alumni, faculty staff, and local businesses. These groups have been defined as crucial from the point of view of the faculty. The role of social media sites in the communication structure of the faculty as well as its position in the future is described, as well as further possibilities to conduct research in the area.

Industry-institute interaction, training, and placement are very important aspects to be considered while designing any system to improve the methodologies for the education sector. This chapter deals with the different modules related to industry institute management, training and placement, alumni database, and management to be covered while designing an erp system for improving these most important areas for any academic institution. Some of the modules to be covered in industry-institute management are as follows: database of industries, industrial visits for enhancing knowledge of students as well as faculty, regular lectures from speakers from industry, providing technical training to staff from industry by means of workshop/seminar/small term courses, and providing technical/consultancy services to industry. Some of the modules to be covered in training and placement management are as follows: database of industries, vocational training to students for enhancing their knowledge, database of students and their academic performance, arrangement of programmes for soft skill development, guidance to students for written exam, group discussions, and personal interviews. Abstract:
In bringing the College of New Jersey to the brink of university status, McCosh stood on the verge of the promised land. As the nineteenth century was coming to a close, alumni, professors, and trustees in Princeton, like those at many other American colleges and universities, were eager to see the institution position itself so that it would be better able to meet society’s need for moral and thoughtful leaders, practical knowledge, and scientific expertise once the nation entered the twentieth century. With the future direction of the institution hanging in the balance, the choice of who should succeed McCosh divided the college community along the same lines as had emerged earlier over both the alumni’s attempt to secure direct representation on the Board of Trustees and McCosh’s failed attempt to make the college a university. Whereas McCosh harmoniously upheld the college’s dual mission through the breadth of his scholarly interests, the warmth of his evangelical piety, and the force of his personality, the two candidates who vied for the presidency after his resignation possessed only a portion of McCosh’s qualities and appealed to only one part of the Princeton community. Francis L. Patton appealed to those primarily, though not exclusively, interested in preserving Princeton’s heritage as an evangelical college. According to McCosh, the “older men” among the trustees, faculty, and alumni “want a minister,” and on these grounds, the forty-five-year-old Patton seemed like a natural successor to McCosh. A native of Bermuda, Patton had graduated from University College of the University of Toronto; had attended Knox College, also of the University of Toronto; and had graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1865. Ordained that same year in the Old School Presbyterian church, he served as pastor of a church in New York City. Cyrus H. McCormick (1809-1884), the farming machine magnate and patron of conservative Presbyterian causes, persuaded Patton to accept a position as the Professor of Didactic and Polemical Theology at the Presbyterian Seminary of the Northwest (later McCormick Theological Seminary) in Chicago in 1873.
