Abstract:
The Library and Information Science discipline is in constant flux, facing myriad impediments with the development of technology. Per se, the field introduced information and communications technology into its curriculum which has changed librarians’ roles in information handling. Moreover, the integration of the term ‘information’ changed the nomenclature thereby giving a new name of Information Science/Studies, embracing an enormous range of subjects. The present study investigates the previous and current skills of alumni at the Department of Library and Information Science, College of Basic Education, Kuwait. Descriptive analysis of the distributed survey revealed frequencies and percentages data on participants’ gender, marital status, age, grade point average, certificate obtained, employment sector, years of experience, and salary. Qualitative data revealed comments on employment issues, difficulties faced, and the Department of Library and Information Science curriculum. The findings suggested that the majority of the alumni have benefited from their major as their employment is relevant (84%), it is within their specialisation and most of them (56%) are employed in a library setting. The most frequently learned skill is ethics (54%), and the skills that needed improvement are library skills and English language proficiency. The research data initiated a list of skills required and organisations employing the alumni. It is recommended that LIS alumni should be equippedwith multi-tasking skills to work at the job market institutions, and that LIS schools should start offering a PhD qualification in Kuwait. This research contributes to decisions in curriculum updating from the viewpoint of alumni to meet the requirements of the job market. The research is the first study to collect data from LIS alumni in Kuwait at CBE, PAAET and realises their concerns. Departments sharing a similar curriculum can benefit as the research is an initial step that should be regularly taken to update the curricula.

Abstract Historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have trained Black librarians and strengthened the library profession since 1927 when the first HBCU-based library school was founded at Hampton University. However, HBCU professors, library directors, and alumni are often overlooked in conversations on librarian professionalization. In this article, four distinguished HBCU-affiliated library leaders provide critical perspectives on LIS practice. Their collective insight illustrates the value of HBCUs in LIS and demonstrates opportunities for new directions.

This dissertation investigates the contribution of school libraries in students education background, aiming their autonomy to the use of the university library. The subjects were the Regional Director, school managers, teachers, parents, community leaders and students of elementary (stages I and II) and high schools, from eight public state schools belonging to the Regional Directory of Education of José Bonifácio. In the first half of 2009, questionnaires with closed questions were administered to the sample subjects. Through a stratified sample, which criterion was the school size (small, medium and large), the general situation of eight public school libraries of the Regional Directory of Education of José Bonifácio was analysed. The data analysis revealed the precariousness of the school libraries of the state public schools of the Regional Directory of Education of José Bonifácio, whether the schools were large, medium or small. This problem was also found both in relation to the lack of adequate physical space, equipment, human resources and bibliographical resources, and by the poor availability of such resources for the school and local community, in addition to the insignificant contribution to its cultural and professional enrichment. Despite this precarious situation, school managers and teachers look for alternatives to develop the school projects, but with unsatisfactory results for both professionals and students. Even in schools where there is a library, not always it is frequented by local and school community. This research intended to help school managers, teachers, students, parents and local community to become aware of the precariousness of school libraries and to recognize the importance of their role in the educational process.<br>Esta pesquisa objetivou verificar a disponibilidade e a disponibilização de recursos informacionais e virtuais nas bibliotecas de escolas públicas para o aprimoramento do trabalho pedagógico da escola, bem como avaliar sua contribuição para o enriquecimento cultural e profissional da comunidade escolar e local.

Abstract:

Concerning deaf people, a school of quality is one that is able to both provide to this student the ideal conditions of learning and leading him to get involved academically and socially, so that old discriminatory excluding paradigms based on oralism and total communication can be overcome, providing teaching sign language, the adequate teaching procedures, a bilingual and bicultural curriculum, teachers with special training, the educational interpreter, the assistance of deaf sign language professionals, the interlocution among the deaf and hearing students and, finally, a comprehensive school reorganization. Therefore, deaf education has been based on the interface between the presuppositions of educational inclusion and bilingualism. Based on this data, this research aimed to demonstrate and analyze the opinion of the teachers, colleagues and managers concerning the performance of a fluent LIBRAS's teacher as an interpreter, in an ordinary high school class group. The data were obtained by interviewing five teachers, six hearing students, the vice director and the coordinator. Besides, notes were taken about the educational activities developed in the classroom and also about the relationship among the deaf students, the teachers and hearing students. It could also be noticed that the fluent LIBRAS's teacher, performing as an interpreter, assumes teacher's role, while the school doesn't. The attitudes taken by the interpreter go beyond a simple interpretation. Besides, it was noticed that the teachers blame themselves for the limits of the deaf students and they haven't realized the political dimension of this inclusion. Based on the... Abstract:
Como resultado, foram analisados episódios registrados em diário de campo, destacando a (a)normalização provocada por docentes, professores interlocutores de Libras, colegas de sala ouvintes e, ainda, por situações de aprendizagem decorrentes de situações, materiais e espaços físicos utilizados para ministrar as aulas<br>This work addresses questions about the normalization of deaf-students in various everyday situations of the school routine of regular classrooms of the state public network of São Paulo. In this way, the research contributes significantly to the understanding of the vision that many of the education professionals have about the deaf student who learns from an inclusive perspective, through an education denominated bilingual by the legislation and that aims to approach the term \"deafness\" through a socio-anthropological vision. With the objective of recording and analyzing episodes of (no)standardization in three inclusive classrooms of the chosen school unit, the work adopts a methodology of qualitative and exploratory approach, using non-participatory observation of semi-structured script as Technique of data collection. For the enrichment of the research and the observations in the room, a bibliographic survey was carried out to investigate the normalization of the student-deaf subject throughout history, being through Education, Institutionalization or Medical Sciences, permeating clinical, psychological, social and Legislation. As a result, episodes recorded in field diaries were analyzed, highlighting the (a) normalization provoked by teachers, traslators/interlocutors, listening roommates and also by situations of learning arising from situations, materials and physical spaces used to minister the classes

Abstract:
Poggius Florentinus delighted in his local identity but he also, famously, had an international career, being in attendance at the Council of Constance, being resident in England for four years (1419-1422) and seeking employment at the imperial court. What is less recognized is how he sought for his literary works audiences far beyond his home-city and how some non-Italians were willingly collaborators in this creation of an international reputation. It has not been noticed before how a remarkable witness to this process is now housed in the Special Collections of Bryn Mawr. It, like other manuscripts in the library, reached its present location because of that twenty-century friend of Poggio and alumna of the college, Phyllis Goodhart Gordan. It now has the shelfmark ms. 48 and is a collection of Poggio’s dialogues. What has not been recognized is that we can identify both its scribe and its illuminator and, by doing so, shed new light on Poggio’s fortuna on the far side of Europe, in his one-time home of England.

Abstract:
UCL (University College London) strongly supports the implementation of Open Science policies and practices. The library has taken the lead in the university across all eight areas of Open Science: the Future of Scholarly Communication, the EOSC, FAIR data, Skills, Research Integrity, Rewards, Altmetrics, and Citizen Science. UCL has modified these themes slightly to better fit its academic requirements, developing ambitious programmes and services to support the change of culture which is required. From the future of scholarly publishing, with the formation of UCL Press as the UK's first fully open access university press, to research data management, rewards, research integrity and next-generation metrics, UCL has become a leader in Open Science. This chapter analyses the success of UCL to date, describes the challenges, shows the benefits, and indicates what future steps are being planned to deliver a culture where Open Science is the default, thus delivering on the prophecy of Mahatma Ghandi, one of UCL's most illustrious alumni, ‘The future depends on what you do today'.

Abstract:
The purpose of this chapter is to review and analyze the role of libraries and librarians in Management College student empowerment of career guidance, career counseling, and overall career development in Trichy and Pudukkottai districts. This study creates awareness about different careers among the students and librarians towards career development activities programs. This study may help to create responsiveness among the Management College and librarians to find out how to cater to their students and enhance students' personality, skills, confidence, and students' employability to develop their career. This study assists libraries to study and provide better infrastructure and programs pertaining to student needs. The 584 valid questionnaires were coded after data collection. The obtained data were tabulated and analysed using the statistical packages Microsoft Excel and SPSS. Hypotheses were tested and findings were drawn in the light of objectives of the investigation. The results were reported in the form of thesis, tables, charts, and figures used wherever necessary to make the presentations clear, simple, and easy. The study demonstrated that one-fifth of the respondents were agreed the following statement related career choice of the MBA graduates such as “I am capable of making my own career choice,” “I seek my parent's advice for career choice,” “I consult the librarian in making any career choice,” “I consult the placement officer in making career choice,” “I consult my friends before making any career choice,” “I seek advice of my seniors in making career choice,” “ I consult the alumni of my institute in making career choice,” and “I go by the market trend in deciding my career choice.” Nearly half of the respondents were neutral about the above mentioned statement, and the remaining one-third of the respondents disagreed about various career choices. Further, it is observed from the study that 49.3% of the respondents were neutral with overall level of career choice, 30.0% of the respondents disagree with overall level of career choice, and the remaining 20.7% of the respondents agreed with overall level of career choice.

Abstract:
The Model of Technology-Supported Learning can be considered among the comprehensive model in creating the inclusive environment for SWDs. It is based on the two needs assessments conducted among the public and 66 SWDs from eight Malaysian HEIs. It was then validated by a heterogeneous group of 11 subject matter experts (SMEs) from overseas and locals via the Delphi Technique. The consensus among the SMEs was achieved at the Round Two of Delphi. This indicates that the Model of Technology Supported Learning for SEN Learners is feasible and accepted to be implemented in the Malaysian HEIs. The Model comprised of one main component with six sub-components namely: 1) Academic Affairs, 2) Student Affairs, 3) Library, 4) University Administration, 5) Community, Industrial Networking, and Alumni, and 6) Special Department/Unit for SEN learners. In this chapter, the focus will be given on the special unit for SEN learners' component. The exemplification of the component will be discussed further to demonstrate how the Model is feasible to be implemented in higher education.

Abstract:
The San Romualdo Psalter is a manuscript dating back to the 9th century, which for a long time has been thought to have been written by the saint himself. Its rubrication turned white making it completely unreadable, the previous repairs led to distortions of the parchment. The codex was dismantled and reproduced using UV fluorescence, with a remarkable improvement in the text’s readability. Previous repairs have been removed using rigid aqueous gels; distortions have been treated with humidification and tensioning with neodymium magnets. The manuscript has been resewn using a Japanese paper concertina and double thread technique, and bound on beech boards and full alum tawed goatskin.

Abstract:
The George A. Smathers Libraries at the University of Florida (UF) are participating in an innovative program to explore whether making electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) available in print through online retail sites can have positive impacts for graduates, the University, and the general public. Digitization and metadata enhancement have improved discoverability and ease of access for ETDs in the Institutional Repository at the University of Florida (IR@UF). However, through this new program, research can be shared widely beyond academe with practitioners, corporate researchers, independent scholars, and international readers. This paper will describe how the Smathers Libraries have worked with a corporate partner, BiblioLabs, to leverage online retailers’ discovery engines to promote print versions of ETDs while alerting readers to the free digital versions available in the IR@UF. This paper will also share how alumni, current graduate students, and other campus stakeholders have responded to the pilot of this new service. The Libraries are monitoring referred traffic to the IR and sales data. UF is the first university to contribute content to this effort, but we expect others to follow suit if the data supports the expectations of the University, the Libraries, and our graduates.
