Abstract:
Tracer study is a study of tracer traces of graduates or alumni carried out to alumni after graduation. The obstacle faced by STMIK Abulyatama in conducting a tracer study is at the time of data collection, currently collecting data manually by distributing questionnaires and telephone interviews with alumni and companies. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a complete E-Tracer study service, which can provide information for higher education institutions for the benefit of curriculum improvements, trace alumni in detail and determine user satisfaction of college graduates. The research objectives are; (1) To find out the alumni information system using a web-based programming language, (2) Designing an alumni management information system using Data Flow Diagrams (DAD) and programming languages ​​such as HTML, CSS, JQuery, JSON, PHP and MySQL as databases, and (3) To improve the existing system to be even better, by building an information system that can improve performance on alumni data collection at Abulyatama University. The stages in the research consist of; literature study, data collection, systems analysis, system development, and report generation. Based on the results of the alumni information system analysis, it can be seen that until now it is still done manually. The author can conclude several things, namely; (1) With a Web-Based Alumni Information System, it is hoped that it will make work easier and accurate and more time-efficient information can be obtained, (2) The use of a manual system has limitations in the data search process, because the data is still stored in archive form, ( 3) Difficulty in updating the latest data for publication to the public, and (4) With this application, it is expected to simplify and speed up the administrative process at Abulyatama University.

STKIP PGRI Jombang merupakan salah satu perguruan tinggi terbesar di Jombang, Saat ini STKIP PGRI Jombang telah melakukan tracer study dengan menggunakan sistem online yaitu dengan cara pengisian formulir kuesioner melalui Google Form. Salah satu kekurangan menggunakan google form adalah ketika alumni salah pengisian dan otomatis harus melakukan pengisian ulang yang mengakibatkan informasi menjadi menumpuk, kendala lain yang di alami oleh STKIP PGRI Jombang yaitu respon yang kurang dari responden dalam hal ini yaitu alumni dan stakeholder serta tidak validnya email yang disertakan sehingga menghasilkan informasi umpan balik yang kurang efektif. Hal ini tentunya menyulitkan tim tracer studi dan membutuhkan waktu yang lama dalam proses pelacakan alumni. Dengan melihat kebutuhan tersebut, penulis merancang sebuah sistem informasi tracer studi yang akan membantu dalam proses pengumpulan informasi terkait alumni. Metode penelitian yang digunakan oleh penulis yaitu waterfall, bahasa pemrograman yang digunakan PHP dengan framework Codeiginiter 4. Rancangan basis data yang digunakan penulis yaitu Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD). Pada bagian materi konseptual design program penulis menggunakan Unifield Modelling Language (UML) diantaranya yaitu Use Case Diagram dan Class Diagram. Tujuan dibuatnya sistem informasi tracer studi ini yaitu untuk memudahkan tim tracer dalam pendataan dan proses pencarian lulusan atau alumni­. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu memudahkan alumni maupun stakeholder dalam pengisian kuesioner sehingga tim tracer mendapatkan hasil umpan balik yang valid dan pembuatan laporan menjadi lebih mudah.

The output of the success of the education process needs to be traced by tertiary institutions to find out how many graduates are relevant to the work with the field of knowledge they master is through tracer study. The implementation of the Tracer Study on the STMIK MIC Cikarang campus is still done manually, resulting in the campus difficulty reaching more alumni in filling out the questionnaire. Plus, the campus had to go the extra mile in recapitulating the results of the questionnaire. In this study, the FAST (Framework for Application System Technologies) method is used with the aim of designing a Tracer Study information system that can facilitate the management of alumni data and the results of the Tracer Study. By using this method, a system that can manage alumni data can be designed, and can present alumni data reports. And can provide email notifications given to alumni to update their personal data, so that data is up to date. This system can also recap the results of the tracer study questionnaire conducted by alumni, which can then present the report in graphical form

STKIP Andi Matappa merupakan perguruan tinggi swasta yang rutin melaksananakan tracer study setiap tahun. Akan tetapi, banyak alumni STKIP Andi Matappa yang masih belum paham dan sadar akan pentingnya tracer study. Hal ini diperparah dengan banyak alumni STKIP Andi Matappa yang berdomisili di daerah terpencil. STKIP Andi Matappa melaksanakan pendampingan pengisian kuisioner online QTAFI untuk tracer study dengan metode pelatihan simulasi pada alumni STKIP Andi Matappa Tahun 2019. Tujuan kegiatan pendampingan yaitu meningkatnya pengetahuan dan pemahaman alumni mengenai pengisian kuisioner online QTAFI. Adapun langkah-langkah kegiatan pendampingan pengisian kuisioner tracer study berbasis QTAFI bagi alumni STKIP Andi Matappa yaitu (1) Tahap pengenalan, (2) Penjelasan data isian dalam kuisioner tracer study berbasis QTAFI, (3) Bimbingan teknis pengisian kuisioner tracer study berbasis QTAFI. Abstract:
This study aims to integrate the alumni information system which has not been integrated at Diponegoro University. The alumni information system previously encountered problems, namely the absence of alumni database application standards, and there was no policy requiring students to fill and update the alumni database system. The application designed in this study can be a medium that connects faculties and also requires that each alumni can fill in the data in the database. The system development method used in developing this system is the V model. This application has the facility to update work data and first salary when working. Information entered into the application can facilitate primary data collection for accreditation purposes. In this application alpha testing is done using the blackbox testing method and in beta testing using a questionnaire distribution method to input applications. Of the graduates in 2017 there are 4521 alumni who have filled in the data well, and there is an increase in 2018 as many as 6487 which indicates that this application can be a means to meet alumni data needs.

The purpose of this research is to find out; the implementation, function, and management objectives of the alumni empowerment strategy through tracer study activities and their evaluation; Research location: Madrasah Aliyah al-Amiriyyah Blokagung. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques using data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study: implementation of the management strategy for empowering alumni: (a) Forming a family of alumni in the year of graduation; (b) Forming an alumni management for all members; (c) Appoint alumni who have a national reputation as alumni leaders; (d) Involve outstanding alumni in the publication of acceptance of new students; (e) Inviting alumni to events held both competitions and birthdays; (f) Presenting reputable alumni as motivators and fillers for activities. The functions and objectives of the management strategy for alumni empowerment are: (a) Evaluating tracer study activities as part of alumni empowerment in each graduate to measure the success of the implemented educational curriculum; (b) The need to review the educational curriculum so that it is able to achieve educational goals as expected by stakeholders; (c) monitoring the development of alumni as madrasah ambassadors for the community and government; (d) Monitoring results as a basis for activities to increase alumni activities that contribute to the development of educational quality. While the evaluation of tracer study activities is through (a) Drawing up a yearly alumni chart containing alumni identities and their activities; (b) holding meetings with alumni which are used to strengthen friendship as well as measure loyalty to the madrasah; (e) accommodate the messages and impressions of alumni to improve the quality of madrasas through a tracer study in the form of a google form application that can be accessed widely; (d) recruit alumni with high achievements and high loyalty as part of Madrasa management.

Saat ini, sistem masih menggunakan google form untuk mendapatkan informasi mengenai alumni sehingga membutuhkan waktu yang cukup lama untuk mengelola data yang didapatkan, dan kemungkinan akan ada data yang terduplikasi atau data yang salah karena masih menggunakan sistem yang manual. Tracer Study ini dibangun untuk memecahkan masalah yang terjadi pada perguruan tinggi yang masih menggunakan sistem yang sederhana seperti google form untuk mendapatkan data alumni. Tracer Study dibuat dalam bentuk website yang digunakan untuk mengelola dan mengolah data yang didapat dari alumni, dan membuat pengumuman untuk informasi mengenai pengisian tracer study. Selain itu, sistem ini juga menggunakan bantuan virtual assistan seperti Telegram untuk menghubungkan alumni dengan administrator terkait dengan pengumuman dan pengisian Tracer Study oleh alumni. Tracer study berbasis website dengan virtual assistant ini diujikan menggunakan ISO 9126 dengan didapatkan hasil yang baik dari beberapa aspek pengujian serta diharapkan mampu membantu institusi dan mampu memudahkan menghubungi alumni dalam pengisian survey lulusan karena dapat dilakukan secara online.

This research aims to (1) provide an academic basis for the Indonesian Ministry of Religion's DIKTIS and PTKI to formulate policies related to the importance of alumni trace research; (2) provide a manual for the implementation of tracer studies for PTKIN and PTKI so that the implementation of tracer studies is standardized; and (3) establishing a tracer studies system for PTKI, so that tracer studies can be carried out effectively, easily, efficiently and sustainably. Tracer study is useful for knowing the distribution and monitoring of potential alumni of a university, in this case PTKI and PTKIN. Methods of carrying out this research include; making the design of the tracer study system, testing the tracer study system, and disseminating the tracer studies system. The results of this study are the renewal of the tracer study system belonging to PTN.X and the availability of guidebooks related to the importance of tracer studies and implementation guidelines.Keywords: Design, PTKI, Tracer Study.

Magister Artium - MA (Psychology)<br>The present study aimed to determine the employment and employability profiles of alumni from structured professional Masters programmes in psychology. Issues of low enrolment rates and high attrition rates are at the fore of transformation efforts in the South African higher education sector. The concern of graduate employability and the relevance of skills training received to the labour market are of international concern. Graduate tracer studies have been successfully implemented internationally to attempt to understand these issues. Training relevance is of particular concern for the field of psychology in South Africa, as there is a significant shortage of mental health professionals. Understanding where graduates from professional Masters degrees in psychology find employment, as well as understanding their employability, may lead to greater absorption of graduates from these programmes into the workforce. Permission to conduct the present study and ethics clearance was obtained from the Senate Research Committee of the University of the Western Cape, and all relevant ethics principles were adhered to. An incentivised, online survey was conducted with a sample of 29 Masters-level graduates from two professional psychology programmes at a historically disadvantaged university. The study used a modified version of the Standard Instrument for Graduates. The survey had a 50% response rate (29 of 58) after at least four electronic reminders. Respondents graduated between 2008 and 2013, 13 from the clinical Masters programme and 16 from the research Masters programme. Descriptive statistics were used to depict the employment and employability profiles of the alumni. Most of the respondents were female (n=21), and about a third were first generation students (n=11). Most of the respondents were currently employed (n=25). They were employed in a variety of fields, predominantly health (n=10) and higher education (n=7), and largely clustered in the public sector (n=17). This suggested a transferability of skills. The training received was perceived to be relevant, in terms of accessing employment and conducting current work. Most of the clinical graduates were registered as clinical psychologists (n=12) with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa. There were varied registrations held by graduates from the research programme and some were not registered. The respondents held generally positive attitudes towards their alma mater. These descriptive results were interpreted through the use of McQuaid and Lindsay's (2005) framework of employability, based on the interaction between their individual factors, personal circumstances and external factors. Through this frame, the results highlighted the complex nature of the employability of these graduates.

Volta Redonda,RJ<br>O projeto “Física Animada é uma proposta que usa a técnica stop motion para ensinar conceitos da cinemática de maneira mais participativa e divertida para alunos do Ensino Médio, levando os alunos a compreenderem conceitos de deslocamento, posição, velocidade e aceleração, além de desenvolverem habilidades de interpretação de gráficos, tabelas e vetores, e também de relacionar os gráficos da cinemática com o movimento efetuado. Essa técnica consiste na criação do movimento quadro a quadro e existem diversas animações bem conhecidas como exemplos de sua aplicação. Neste trabalho, três etapas foram propostas para a condução do projeto e seguidas durante a aplicação: (i) Criação das personagens em massa de modelar; (ii) Gravação de vídeos com movimentos de velocidade constante e variável; (iii) Análise dos movimentos no vídeo para confrontar o modelo mental com os modelos da mecânica Newtoniana. A pesquisa foi conduzida em uma escola estadual voltada para o ensino de jovens e adultos (CEJA Centro de Educação de Jovens e Adultos) e ao longo do ano 2014 o minicurso foi realizado diversas vezes com diferentes alunos. No projeto foram utilizados dois softwares gratuitos: o MUAN, para a criação dos vídeos, e o Tracker, para a análise cinemática. Ambos possuem uma interface intuitiva e amigável, o que favorece o uso como ferramenta de ensino. Ao longo da aplicação do projeto, foram realizados exames diagnósticos com os alunos antes e após o minicurso de quatro aulas. Além disso, foram entregues questionários para todos os participantes e realizadas entrevistas com os que se voluntariaram a gravar suas impressões sobre a atividade. Verificou-se ainda a validade do projeto visando o aumento do interesse e da motivação dos alunos em se tratando do aprendizado de tópicos em cinemática e mecânica.<br>The Project “Animated Physics” is a proposal that uses the stop motion animation technique to teach concepts of kinematics in an active and fun way for high school students. This technique consists on the creation of motion frame by frame and there are several well-known animated movies as examples of its application. In this work, three steps were proposed for the project implementation: (i) Creation of characters in putty; (ii) Recording videos with constant and variable speed motion; (iii) Analysis of movements in the video to confront the mental model with Newtonian mechanics models. The research was conducted in a public school focused on youth and adult education (CEJA in Portuguese, Education Center for Youth and Adults) and during the year 2014 a short course was applied several times to different students. The project was performed through two free softwares: MUAN, for the creation of videos, and Tracker, for kinematic analysis. Both have an intuitive and friendly interface, which allows the use as a teaching tool. During the implementation of the project, diagnostic tests were performed with students before and after a short course of four lessons. In addition, questionnaires were applied to all participants and interviews were conducted with those who volunteered to record their impressions on the activity. The aim of this project was to make students understand concepts of displacement, position, speed and acceleration, to develop graphics, tables, and vector interpretation skills, and also to relate kinematics graphics with motion. The validity of the project in order to increase the interest and motivation of students learning topics in kinematics and mechanics was also assessed.

Os movimentos foram filmados pelos alunos utilizando uma câmera fotográfica digital e, após, foi usado um programa de análise de imagens (Tracker). A escolha dos temas a serem filmados e analisados partiu de sugestões dos próprios alunos em sala de aula, orientados pela professora de Ciências e pelo autor dessa proposta de trabalho. As filmagens foram realizadas pelos alunos no pátio e no salão esportivo da escola; a análise dos movimentos filmados e sua descrição foram realizadas no laboratório de informática. A proposta foi aplicada no Colégio São José, de Caxias do Sul, RS, com cinco turmas de oitava série na disciplina de Ciências, durante os meses de setembro a novembro de 2008, inserindo as atividades paralelamente à apresentação dos conteúdos. Todo material desenvolvido e utilizado nesta proposta foi disponibilizado, gradualmente, no decorrer de sua aplicação na página Web do Colégio. O planejamento e a execução desta proposta foram embasados na teoria interacionista de Lev Vygotsky. Essa escolha se deu, principalmente, pelos objetivos pretendidos neste trabalho que previam que os alunos trabalhassem em grupo com a mediação dos professores, proporcionando e estimulando o gosto por aprender. A avaliação da proposta foi feita pelos alunos no final de sua aplicação através de um questionário de opinião. Segundo as respostas dos alunos, na medida em que atividades e tecnologias do seu cotidiano são utilizadas nas aulas de Física, faz com que essas se tornem mais motivadoras e interessantes. O material instrucional produzido, acompanhado de um guia de informações e orientações será publicado na série “Hipermídias de Apoio ao Professor de Física”, onde serão descritos os objetivos, a justificativa e a metodologia utilizados, com o intuito de que possam ser aplicados por outros professores associados à disciplina de Ciências da 8ª série.<br>This work proposes an alternative introduction of 8th grade Physics school contents through the study of Kinematics concepts present, e.g., in the students' daily sporting and leisure activities, in order to make these concepts more attractive and motivating to them. The situations have been registered in the schoolyard and gymnasium by the students themselves using a digital camera. The videoclips were then analyzed using an image analysis software (Tracker) in the school's computer laboratory. The subjects on the videoclips were selected among students' suggestions and assisted by the Science class teacher together with the author. The proposal has been carried out in Colégio São José, of Caxias do Sul, RS, with five different groups of 8th graders during Science classes, from September to November of 2008, these activities being alternated with regular classes. All material developed and used in the proposal was made available, during its application, on the School's Webpage. The planning and execution of this proposal are oriented along the social interaction theory of Lev Vygotsky. This choice is mainly motivated by the goal of promoting collaborative students work, intermediated by the teachers, providing and stimulating the taste for learning. The students evaluated the work by its conclusion through an opinion questionnaire. According to the students' answers to the questionnaire, when their daily activities were introduced in the Physics classes making use of available technology through electronic and computer devices, the Physics learning was rendered more interesting and motivating. The instructional material produced during the project application together with an information guide orienting other 8th grade Science teachers on its application will be published in the series “Hipermídias de Apoio ao Professor de Física”, where aims and methodology will also be described.

Ce travail porte sur l'hydrodémétallisation catalytique de charges modèles à base de vanadyl octéthylporphyrine. L'objectif essentiel de cette étude porte sur la caractérisation du vanadium déposé au cours de l'acte catalytique. Pour ce faire, nous avons au préalable préparé et caractérisé des composés massiques ou supportés du vanadium sous forme oxyde ou sulfure (chapitre III). Les limites de répartition en monocouche du vanadium sur support d'alumine sont précisées. Nous avons montré également que les sulfures de vanadium étaient très réactifs vis à vis de l'oxygène. Cependant le processus d'oxydation diffère selon que le sulfure est supporté ou non. Dans les catalyseurs issus du micropilote (chapitre IV), trois espèces différentes de vanadium ont été mises en évidence : (i) de la vanadyl porphyrine adsorbée, en faible quantité, sur la surface du catalyseur (ii) un sulfure VxSy présentant une mauvaise dispersion en surface mais bien réparti dans le grain du catalyseur (iii) une espèce VO++ isolée détectée par RPE. En outre, nous montrons que le molybdène appartenant à la phase active du catalyseur initial reste accessible sous forme MoS2 alors que l'autre métal (Ni) disparaît sous le dépôt de sulfure de vanadium. L'analyse des solutions obtenues après tests, souligne l'effet de la température et de la pression, et montre le rôle autocatalytique du vanadium déposé. Les chlorines métallée et démétallée présentes en solution, sont des intermédiaires de réaction ce qui permet de proposer un modèle de mécanisme pour la réaction d'hydrodémétallisation.

Nanofluids, a new class of fluids engineered by suspending nanometer-sized particles in a host liquid, are offered as a new strategy in order to improve heat and mass transfer efficiency. My research was motivated by previous exciting studies on enhanced mass diffusion and the possibility of tailoring mass transport by direct manipulation of molecular diffusion. Therefore, a microfluidic approach capable of directly probing tracer diffusion between nanoparticle-laden fluid streams was developed. Under conditions matching previously reported studies, strong complexation interactions between the dye and nanoparticles at the interface between fluid streams was observed. When the tracer dye and surfactant were carefully chosen to minimize the collective effects of the interactions, no significant change in tracer dye diffusivity was observed in the presence of nanoparticles. Next, adapting tracer dyes for studies involving colloidal nanomaterials was explored. Addition of these charged tracers poses a myriad of challenges because of their propensity to disrupt the delicate balance among physicochemical interactions governing suspension stability. Here it was shown how important it is to select the compatible combinations of dye, nanoparticle, and stabilizing surfactant to overcome these limitations in low volume fraction (< 1 vol%) aqueous suspensions of Al2O3 nanoparticles. A microfluidic system was applied as a stability probe that unexpectedly revealed how rapid aggregation could be readily triggered in the presence of local chemical gradients. Suspension stability was also assessed in conjunction with coordinated measurements of zeta potential, steady shear viscosity and bulk thermal conductivity. These studies also guided our efforts to prepare new refrigerant formulations containing dispersed nanomaterials, including graphene nanosheets, carbon nanotubes and metal oxide and nitride. The influence of key parameters such as particle type, size and volume fraction on the suspension's thermal conductivity was investigated using a standard protocol. Our findings showed that thermal conductivity values of carbon nanotube and graphene nanosheet suspensions were higher than TiO2 nanoparticles, despite some nanoparticles with large particle sizes provided noticeable thermal conductivity enhancements. Significantly, the graphene containing suspensions uniquely matched the thermal conductivity enhancements attained in nanotube suspensions without accompanying viscosity, thus making them an attractive new coolant for demanding applications such as electronics and reactor cooling.

Le mécanisme menant à des déformations structurales suivant le bombardement d'échantillons de a-Si d'un faisceau d'ions lourds et rapides est sujet de controverses. Nous nous sommes penchés sur l'hypothèse de la formation d'une zone liquide causée par la déposition d'énergie des ions incidents dans le contexte de la théorie du pic thermique. Des échantillons de silicium amorphe furent préparés dans le but d'observer les indices d'une transition de phase l-Si/a-Si suivant la déposition locale d'énergie sur le parcours d'un ion lourd énergétique dans le a-Si. Les échantillons furent implantés d'impuretés de Cu ou d'Ag avant d'être exposés à un faisceau d'ions Ag12+ de 70 MeV. L'utilisation de l'analyse GISAXS est projetée afin d'observer une concentration locale d'impuretés suivant leur ségrégation sur la trace de l'ion. Des masques d'implantation nanométriques d'oxide d'aluminium ont été fabriqués afin d'augmenter la sensibilité de l'analyse GISAXS et une méthode d'alignement de ces masques selon la direction du faisceau fut développée. Le bombardement d'échantillons au travers de ces masques a donné lieu à un réseau de sites d'impacts isolés presque équidistants.<br>The machanisms underlying structural deformations following swift heavy ion beam a-Si irradiation are subject of debate. We investigated the hypothesis of the presence of a liquid phase in the wake of the energetic ions in the thermal spike framework. a-Si samples were prepared in order to track a transient liquid phase by implanting Cu or Ag on the a-Si surface and exposing the sample to a 70 MeV Ag12+ beam. Cu and Ag are both very sensitive to segregation in Si and are therefore thought to be capable of keeping track of a molten transient state by concentrating on the ion track. Samples are to be investigated with GISAXS. Nanoscale implantation masks were developed from nanoporous alumina membranes in order to impose a pattern on the ion impact sites and thus improve GISAXS sensitivitity. An alignment method is also developed for the positioning of pores parallel to the ion beam direction. A nearly equidistant impact sites pattern was achieved by irradiating fused silica through these implantation masks.

AbstractThis chapter is about the role of capacity building of local NGOs in Sumba, a poor island in the Eastern part of Indonesia. It is part of a larger initiative referred to as Sumba Iconic Island (SII), which aimed to solve poverty problems, transforming unequal gender relations while at the same time mitigating climate change. This study traced what happened after six years after the project ended. It is done by exploring the project documentation and conducting interviews with Hivos staff and the alumni representatives. We find that it has improved nature, community wellbeing, women leadership, and more equal gender relations. We conclude that: (1) transformation is not a linear process; (2) the changes toward the vision are not direct but tortuous; (3) there are unintended consequences, which can be positively or negatively influence the initial goal, and (4) the capacity to analyze the situation, reflect, and create action is crucial in the transformation process.

AbstractA multiscale analysis is performed to investigate deformation and fracture in the aluminum-alumina composite and steel with a boride coating as an example. Model microstructure of the composite materials with irregular geometry of the matrix-particle and substrate-coating interfaces correspondent to the experimentally observed microstructure is taken into account explicitly as initial conditions of the boundary value problem that allows introducing multiple spatial scales. The problem in a plane strain formulation is solved numerically by the finite-difference method. Physically-based constitutive models are developed to describe isotropic strain hardening, strain rate and temperature effects, Luders band propagation and jerky flow, and fracture. Local regions experiencing bulk tension are found to occur during compression that control cracking of composites. Interrelated plastic strain localization in the steel substrate and aluminum matrix and crack origination and growth in the ceramic coating and particles are shown to depend on the strain rate, particle size and arrangement, as well as on the loading direction: tension or compression.

This chapter traces how academies came to be seen as training grounds for political leaders. During the Seven Years’ War, academy teachers and trustees claimed their schools benefitted the British Empire. But when the Imperial Crisis hit, the political ambitions of academy students, which the British had stoked in the 1750s and early 1760s, became a liability. The academy generation became the revolutionary generation, and students and faculty streamed into the ranks of the Continental Army and state and national political offices. The American Revolution solidified the civic purposes of education, and academies in particular. But the war was also destructive to American education. As peace arrived in 1783, Americans, and especially academy alumni, began to think about how to rebuild American education.

Esse trabalho foi finalizado com a conclusão de que, as estratégias pedagógicas proporcionam a alfabetização com inclusão do aluno autista, através de metodologias direcionadas as suas habilidades e particularidade mesmo em meio aos desafios.

From 2010 to 2013, the White Mountain Apache Tribe and the University of Arizona, with funding from the National Science Foundation, hosted the Western Apache Ethnography and Geographic Information Science Research Experience for Undergraduates. Designed to foster practical skills and scholarly capacities for future resource managers and anthropologists, this field school introduced Apache and non-native undergraduate students to ethnographic field research and GIS tools. Building upon the extensive arrays of geographical, cultural, and historical data that are available for Western Apache territory, field school students engaged in community-based participatory research with Western Apache elders and tribal natural and heritage resource personnel to contribute to the Western Apache tribes' efforts to document their cultural histories, traditional ecological knowledge, local understanding of geography, and issues of historic and contemporary resource management. This essay reviews the program and traces how student alumni have incorporated skills and perspectives gained into their subsequent academic and professional work.

Since its establishment on the eve of the inauguration of the Suez Canal (1869) opening up the route for a privileged sea passage towards the Orient – as it was then called – the Royal Superior School of Commerce of Venice adopted the ambitious and farsighted policy of making it ‘unique in its genre’ by promoting the teaching of foreign languages, particularly the teaching of Oriental languages. The launching of a Japanese language course taught by a native speaker five years after the School’s creation inaugurated a season of relations between Ca’ Foscari and Japan. The year of the Venetian School’s foundation coincides with the beginning of the Meiji period in Japan (1868-1912), which saw its transformation into a modern and industrialised country. The Regia Scuola also entertained direct and indirect relations with similar schools in Japan, exchanging alumni bulletins and scientific publications with them. Many students of Japanese in Venice would spend periods of time in Japan, while native Japanese instructors in Venice, once back in Japan, would transmit knowledge acquired in Venice, sometimes even becoming teachers of Italian in Japan. Scholarships for commercial practice allowed some Venetian alumni to reach Japan, while others were hired by new Japanese educational institutions or attached to the Italian diplomatic and consular missions in Japan. Most of them maintained close ties with Ca’ Foscari by sending postcards, photographs, letters and often detailed reports on Japan to their alma mater, thus helping to increase knowledge of a far and still little-known country, in Venice as well as in the rest of Italy. Young Japanese scholars and prominent professors visited the Regia Scuola, often documenting memories of their Venetian experience in their writings. Following the traces left by some of these characters, the essay aims at reconstructing the many threads of the relationships between the Regia Scuola and Japan in the first six decades of its foundation.

O presente estudo aborda aspectos que envolvem a Educação Inclusiva mais especificamente o trabalho com aluno autista. Busca evidenciar o potencial das Tecnologias Assistivas, e sua contribuição no processo de ensino e aprendizagem de alunos autistas matriculados em duas escolas dos anos iniciais do Ensino Fundamental de Boa Vista RR. O estudo possui como problemática a seguinte questão norteadora: Como a Tecnologia Assistiva auxilia no desempenho do ensino e aprendizagem de alunos autistas no Ensino Fundamental dos anos finais de duas escolas de Boa Vista RR? E para responder a situação, tem como objetivo geral: demonstrar o potencial da Tecnologia Assistiva para o ensino e aprendizagem de alunos autistas. Nesse foco, a temática justifica-se, pela necessidade de apropriação de conhecimentos e de maiores esclarecimentos aos professores a respeito dos alunos autistas, que muitas vezes não são assistidos como deveriam, por falta de formação acadêmica ou até mesmo de estrutura física e pedagógica das escolas. Os pressupostos teóricos se fundamentam na vertente da importância de se levar em consideração vivência social, características em comum, o padrão e a extensão das dificuldades do aluno autista, tendo como base as ferramentas das Tecnologias Assistivas e autores como: Bez et.al., (2013); Santana (2005); Tunes (2010), etc. O encaminhamento utilizado na pesquisa é de natureza qualitativa, por meio de pesquisas bibliográficas, documentais e de campo. O instrumento utilizado para a coleta de dados foi um questionário elaborado com 10 (dez) perguntas diretas. Em suma, constatou-se que a aprendizagem de um aluno autista é determinada pelas ferramentas metodológicas utilizadas e pelo modo como esse processo de ensino e aprendizagem é conduzido por todo o contexto escolar. Assim, ensinar ao estilo de aprendizagem por meio das Tecnologias Assistivas ao aluno autista pode trazer um impacto sobre o mesmo, podendo atender e processar a informação que são apresentadas.

Abstract Coking is the process of carbon deposition from a gas phase that is encountered in many reforming, cracking and other high temperature processes. Coking in certain petrochemical processes can lead to carbon build up causing reduced process efficiency, corrosive attack and degradation of the alloy. Components used in these processes are fabricated from HP alloys that form a chromia-based oxide layer or more recent alloys that form an alumina-based oxide layer to help protect against coking. An experimental high temperature coking atmosphere was constructed and used to evaluate the effects of temperature, time and metal surface roughness on the carbon deposition of an alumina forming alloy. Coking conditions were simulated with multiple atmospheres including CO-H2 mixtures at moderate temperatures and ethane at higher temperatures. Carbon deposition was tracked using specific mass change of the samples as a function of exposure times and conditions. Results obtained with the alumina forming alloy were compared to a baseline HP alloy. The materials were analyzed using XRD, SEM, and optical microscopy to characterize the oxide layer formation, carbon deposition layers and carbon attack, and changes to base metal microstructure. Raman spectroscopy was used to characterize the carbon deposits. The overall resistance of the alumina-forming alloys relative to the traditional chromia forming composition will be described.

O estudo sobre a neurociência pode oferecer vários insights valiosos para os pesquisadores sobre como o cérebro como objeto de estudo aprende e processa informações, com implicações significativas para a educação. A compreensão da neurociência analisando aspectos sob a ótica do ensino na primeira infância pode auxiliar na identificação de dificuldades de aprendizagem, na promoção da saúde mental e no desenvolvimento de métodos de ensino mais eficazes, duradouros e significativos. O artigo discute a importância do estudo da neurociência na educação e como sua integração com outras áreas do conhecimento pode trazer benefícios para o aprendizado dos alunos em sala de aula e tornar o aprendizado mais eficiente e o ensino mais proveitoso tanto para aluno quanto para professor. São explorados conceitos-chave da neurociência, como a plasticidade neural, e como eles podem ser aplicados na prática pedagógica sob a vertente das metodologias ativas. A integração da neurociência na educação pode resultar em uma abordagem mais holística do aprendizado, no desenvolvimento de currículos baseados em evidências e na melhoria da prática pedagógica. Estratégias como a criação de conexões significativas, a diversificação de métodos de ensino e a promoção de um ambiente positivo podem ser implementadas para tornar o aprendizado mais eficaz. A neurociência destaca a importância do aprendizado ativo, do uso de recursos multissensoriais e da criação de um ambiente de aprendizagem positivo. É essencial que os educadores estejam preparados para implementar estratégias que promovam o aprendizado ativo, a integração sensorial e a conexão neuronal. A música e os jogos podem ser ferramentas poderosas nesse processo, tornando o aprendizado mais engajador e eficaz. Abstract The visualization of the detailed microstructure of plasma sprayed ceramic coatings is carried out through quantitative analysis of the distribution of the infiltrated element as a tracer. A method to characterize quantitatively the microstructure of spray coating is proposed based on an idealized layer structure model and the distribution of the tracer in the coating. The microstructural parameters include mean thickness of lamellae, bonding ratio between flattened lamellae, distribution and average lamellar interface gap, and vertical crack related parameters. The experiment is performed for plasma sprayed alumina coating with the infiltration of Cr2O3 through chromium acid. The Cr distribution along the lines perpendicular to lamellae is obtained by EDAX line analysis in the form of digital signal at intervals of 2 µm. The processing method of the signal to evolve the structural parameters is introduced.

Abstract Chromia admixture to alumina feedstock is used to block the formation of γ-Al2O3 in plasma sprayed coatings. In this work, a mechanical blend of alumina-chromia powders was used with the water stabilized plasma to make thick coatings. When additional post-treatment by a quasi-continuous laser was applied to the surface, the amount of the corundum phase substantially increased. Careful examination of the treated surface revealed that the individual splats at and near the surface were fully remelted and the structure is formed by a homogeneous phase with no visible splat boundaries. Segregation of Chromium has been detected in the remelted zones, which strongly affects the final properties of coatings. Fast melting and cooling of the ceramic material under certain laser parameters may result in the formation of undesirable cracks between traces of individual passes of the laser beam.

Prolonged application may result in P accumulation up to levels that impair plant nutrition, increase P loss, and promote eutrophication in downstream waters. This study aims to shed light on the RW- and BS-P forms in soils and to follow the processes that determine P reactivity, solubility, availability, and loss in RW and BS treated soils. The Technion group used sequential P extraction combined with measuring stable oxygen isotopic composition in phosphate (δ18OP) and with 31P-NMR studies to probe P speciation and transformations in soils irrigated with RW or fresh water (FW). The application of the δ18OP method to probe inorganic P (Pi) speciation and transformations in soils was developed through collaboration between the Technion and the UCSC groups. The method was used to trace Pi in water-, NaHCO3-, NaOH-, and HCl- P fractions in a calcareous clay soil (Acre, Israel) irrigated with RW or FW. The δ18OP signature changes during a month of incubation indicated biogeochemical processes. The water soluble Pi (WSPi) was affected by enzymatic activity yielding isotopic equilibrium with the water molecules in the soil solution. Further it interacted rapidly with the NaHCO3-Pi. The more stable Pi pools also exhibited isotopic alterations in the first two weeks after P application, likely related to microbial activity. Isotopic depletion which could result from organic P (PO) mineralization was followed by enrichment which may result from biologic discrimination in the uptake. Similar transformations were observed in both soils although transformations related to biological activity were more pronounced in the soil treated with RW. Specific P compounds were identified by the Technion group, using solution-state 31P-NMR in wastewater and in soil P extracts from Acre soils irrigated by RW and FW. Few identified PO compounds (e.g., D-glucose-6-phosphate) indicated coupled transformations of P and C in the wastewater. The RW soil retained higher P content, mainly in the labile fractions, but lower labile PO, than the FW soil; this and the fact that P species in the various soil extracts of the RW soil appear independent of P species in the RW are attributed to enhanced biological activity and P recycling in the RW soil. Consistent with that, both soils retained very similar P species in the soil pools. The HUJ group tested P stabilization to maximize the environmental safe application rates and the agronomic beneficial use of BS. Sequential P extraction indicated that the most reactive BS-P forms: WSP, membrane-P, and NaHCO3-P, were effectively stabilized by ferrous sulfate (FeSul), calcium oxide (CaO), or aluminum sulfate (alum). After applying the stabilized BS, or fresh BS (FBS), FBS compost (BSC), or P fertilizer (KH2PO4) to an alluvial soil, P availability was probed during 100 days of incubation. A plant-based bioassay indicated that P availability followed the order KH2PO4 &gt;&gt; alum-BS &gt; BSC ≥ FBS &gt; CaO-BS &gt;&gt; FeSul-BS. The WSPi concentration in soil increased following FBS or BSC application, and P mineralization further increased it during incubation. In contrast, the chemically stabilized BS reduced WSPi concentrations relative to the untreated soil. It was concluded that the chemically stabilized BS effectively controlled WSPi in the soil while still supplying P to support plant growth. Using the sequential extraction procedure the persistence of P availability in BS treated soils was shown to be of a long-term nature. 15 years after the last BS application to MN soils that were annually amended for 20 years by heavy rates of BS, about 25% of the added BS-P was found in the labile fractions. The UMN group further probed soil-P speciation in these soils by bulk and micro X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES). This newly developed method was shown to be a powerful tool for P speciation in soils.
