Abstract:
This is an era in which information technology is highly advanced and contact information of one's classmates from all over the world is always changing with living areas changed. This will inevitably make one lose touch with their classmates and alma mater. Based on this situation, a platform to strengthen one's connection with the college is urgently need. Therefore, alumni management system comes into being. This system is based on ASP.NET technology and the B/S model, using Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008 as development tools. The system consists of foreground system and background system, the main function modules of the foreground system including user registration, login, message board, news and other modules; the background system mainly includes add users, delete users, modify information of users, add news, delete news, add messages and others. One can facilitate the management of alumni and promote feelings for alumni with this system. It's a platform for alumni to communicate with each other which beyond the restriction of time and space.

Abstract:
Purpose – Alumni provide a valuable marketing conduit for educational institutions to not only share program highlights but to illustrate the competencies learned that are positively impacting organizations. Alumni who are interested in giving back need a vehicle through which they can remain connected to their alma maters. Institutions can benefit greatly from building such bridges. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – Capella University has created a virtual chapter affiliated with the International Society for Performance Improvement where alumni, learners, and faculty can network in meaningful ways to address the interests and needs of all parties. Five key considerations and 12 purposeful activities that have proven to be critical to the success of the collaborative, virtual chapter site are presented. Findings – Providing a virtual site where collaborative partners can work on meaningful projects that address mutual needs has proven to be beneficial to all parties involved. The university has clearly benefited from the authentic advertising that alumni provide. Alumni have benefitted from opportunities to work with the university in meaningful ways that enhance their vitaes. Learners are motivated to persist in their academic programs. And faculty are inspired to witness the impact of their work via the alumni. The virtual chapter site has been a valuable resource that facilitates a positive return for all involved. Originality/value – Virtual chapters that connect alumni, learners, and faculty fill a critical need in an economy where budgets tighten as competition increases in higher education.

Abstract:
We examined the association between socio-structural intergroup characteristics (i.e., permeability of groupboundaries, legitimacy of status difference between ingroup and outgroups, stability of status difference) andstudents’ intention to join the university alumni association. Prior theory and research suggests that group membersassess the intergroup context to direct identity management strategies (e.g., leave group, collective action). Collegestudents in their last semester at a university were asked to rate the perceived socio-structural characteristics of theingroup (compared to other universities) and their intention to join the alumni association. The results showed thatperceiving one’s ingroup as legitimately high status and in a stable intergroup context predicted greater intention tojoin the alumni association. Consistent with prior theory, the results suggest that viewing one’s ingroup aslegitimately high status predicts endorsement of actions to maintain a positive and distinct identity.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore and visualize alternative ways – how and by whom – that academic research can come into commercial use. Design/methodology/approach This study in the Swedish context investigates one entrepreneurial university, Chalmers University of Technology. In total, 18 interviews were conducted about researchers’ views on commercialization and on how research comes into commercial use. Findings Five propositions are advocated in relation to researchers’ role as enablers of others’ commercialization. The concept of “need for utilization” is introduced as the critical explanation for researchers’ readiness to transfer knowledge mainly via alumni to established companies. Practical implications This study suggests that both universities and policy should acknowledge alternative ways of commercialization of academic research instead of putting all efforts on trying to transform unwilling academic researchers into entrepreneurs. One alternative is to foster ongoing contacts between researchers and alumni, who make commercial use of academic research in established firms. Originality/value This study furthers the knowledge about researchers’ individual motivation for commercialization, as driven by a “need for utilization.” By showing how researchers enable others commercialization, this study broadens the prevailing focus on researchers’ formation of university spin-offs as the essential output from entrepreneurial universities. The results also contribute to understanding the role of alumni in knowledge transfer to existing industry.

Abstract:
This study employs qualitative multiple-case study approach to explore the perceptions of university branding and brand managing in Vietnamese universities. The finding shows that three studied universities are applying brand identity approach (Hatch and Schultz, 1997). Among internal stakeholders, students, faculties and alumni play important roles as university administrators in communicating and disseminating university’s image to external stakeholders. In the Vietnamese context, universities are, seemingly, branding by building relationships with some stakeholders rather than by advertising on media.

Abstract:
What motivates the rich and powerful to exhibit generosity? We explore this important question in a large field experiment. We solicit donations from 32,174 alumni of an Ivy League university, including thousands of rich and powerful alumni. Consistent with past psychology research, we find that the rich and powerful respond dramatically, and differently than others, to being given a sense of agency over the use of donated funds. Gifts from rich and powerful alumni increase by 100%–350% when they are given a sense of agency. This response arises primarily on the intensive margin with no effect on the likelihood of donating. Results suggest that motivating the rich and powerful to act may require tailored interventions. This paper was accepted by Uri Gneezy, behavioral economics.

Abstract:
PurposeResponding to increasing external pressure, universities are developing new strategies to illustrate the impact of their degrees on graduate employability. This paper investigates how alumni regard the development of their professional networks during their tertiary education in relation to employability and the associated pedagogical implications.Design/methodology/approachA qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews with 18 business and arts alumni from a regional university.FindingsThe findings reveal the importance of developing a professional network by cultivating social capital while at university. Alumni identify all forms of work-integrated learning (WIL), connectedness through social media, the role of university staff and volunteering as concrete ways to develop a professional network and enhance employability.Research limitations/implicationsThis paper has pedagogical implications to develop graduate employability and WIL. Universities should draw from alumni networks to help develop students' bridging capital through industry-facing WIL projects. Educators should design assessment tasks in which students develop contacts and networking capabilities with alumni and other professionals using various platforms (e.g. social media). In addition, educators should promote the benefits of voluntary work and invite alumni and other industry stakeholders to co-design and co-teach areas of curriculum.Originality/valueDrawing from the experiences of alumni re-routes the channel of communication from institutions expressing the importance of professional networks in relation to employability, to credible industry alumni confirming this importance. Few previous studies have taken this “outside-in approach” to emphasise and validate the importance of developing professional networks in relation to employability, particularly at regional universities.

Abstract:
<p> Colleges and universities in the United States could end operations in record numbers largely from financial shortfalls. The Urban Institute reported that nonprofit organizations lost $3.4 billion in reneged pledges from 2013 to 2014 from donor dissatisfaction, creating a problem because financial losses can occur from a lack of understanding on how media marketing efforts affect fundraising. The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to identify traditional and social media marketing strategies that some nonprofit college and university leaders use to increase alumni financial support. Interviews took place with 7 college or university leaders at 3 private, nonprofit colleges or universities in the southeastern United States. The 7 leaders consisted of 3 vice presidents, 2 provosts, and 2 presidents. The conceptual framework differentiated media into categories, 2 of which were owned media and earned media. As the primary data collection instrument, collection of marketing literature for each school and 7 semistructured interviews occurred. In the data analysis process, transcription of interview data and coding using the modified van Kaam method took place discovering themes. The 4 themes discovered included social media effectiveness, evolution of traditional marketing blending with social media marketing, social media marketing efficiency, and the multiplier effect of social media. Implications for social change included increasing the scholarship ability of schools, creating an affordable environment for students to receive postsecondary education. Additional benefits included enhanced economies for communities where a college or university resides and an improved level of education per capita in the areas surrounding a college or university.</p><p>

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the University Professors New Roles faced to the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). As a support of the investigation, it was tried, by means of theoretical foundation, to base the studies that were developed together, such as: the ICT contribution for the development and improvement of the proposals and projects, both pedagogical and technological ones; the challenges made by the uses of the ICT; the combination of presential and virtual environments (hybridization/blending) of the higher education and the promoting of a cooperative and autonomous learning, focused in the student. It was developed a qualitative approach research with university professors, aiming to investigate: the professors ability with the ICT; the professor-student-content interaction supported by the ICT and the professors vision about the uses of the ICT in relation to the university management. It was noticed the complex scene at where the university professors are nowadays, which has as components: the stages of pedagogical and technological qualification; the active participation of the university management as foments to the viability of the professors new functions/attributions and the learning personalization/humanization, possible by means of the interactionist and pedagogical approach. Through the changes and the opportunities brought by the higher education hybrid environments, it was possible to recognize three new professors roles: to promote interaction spaces, constituting/keeping bonds between pairs and professor-student; to improve themselves continuously as person, academic and professional and to become involved with the university management.

碩士<br>國立高雄應用科技大學<br>工業工程與管理系碩士在職專班<br>102<br>Aim: This research aimed to apply customer relationship management (CRM) to the business of alumni services with the hope to meet satisfaction and maintain good relationship between alumni and the University. Methods: A validated questionnaire was used to collect opinions from alumni. Demographic variables of the questionnaire covers: sex, age, graduation system (college or university), current occupation, current job content, grades in school, performance in school. Alumni relationship was judged by questions designed to inquiry school teaching quality, trust and crudence, alumni identity, school-alumni relationship improvement, concerns, willingness, donation of money, expectation to school alumni service and so on. Questionnaire internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach’α statistics, while variance anaylsis was used to test 5 hypotheses. The deliver and collection of questionnaire was conducted around the June 2014. After issues of 200 questionnaires, 190 copies were collected. The response rate was 95%. Result: Response to questions of ‘the University reputation assist job finding or school entrance’, ‘University teachers request strictly to students’ obtained an average score higher than 3.50 (over a 5.0 scale), while ‘the University provides ample lecture/discussion rooms’, ‘the University provides sufficient extra-curriculum activities and facilities’ obtained scores lower than 3.0. For the aspect of trust and crudence, alumni expressed consistent confidence and satisfaction, such as ‘have had confidence of teaching quality, ‘teachers’ requests were all for students’ good’, ‘I feel proud of being an alumus of this University’, the mean scores exceeded 3.50. For the aspect of alumni relationship, ‘keep contact with other alumni’, ‘keep contact with teachers’, or ‘knowing the alumni center in school’ obtained lower scores. For the aspect of alumni identity, most of the questions, such as donation of money, man power, expectise to school, recommending the University to others, obtained mean scores higher than 3.50 and indicated a good identity to school of a great deal portion of alumni. For the aspect of direction for the future of alumni and school relationship, all the questions reached above 3.50, indicating the high expectation towards activities raised in questionnaire. The top 4 higher expectations in order were: library provides electronic papers/books services, convenient services of document application, alumni personal contact information, network of alumni resource. Variance anaylsis were also conducted to test 5 hypotheses. H1: the University teaching quality had positive effect on the relationship between alumni and school, H2: relationship between alumni and school positively affect the identity of alumni, H3: the University teaching quality had positive effect on the identity of alumni, and H4-1: alumni response affected by demographic factors, H4-2: alumni expectation differed by different demographic effects were statistically proved to be true; while H4-3:there was a relationship between performance in school and alumni expectation, or H4-5: there was a relationship between performance in school and willing to be involved in network were not supported by this survey. Conclusion: Alumni graduated from college system expressed better relationship to the University. Alumni showed low understanding on alumni services in school, and low relationship among alumni, teachers or personal form alumni services in school. The establishment of alumni services, starting from the surveyed top 4 items, projected to assist a better relationship. The findings of this survey provide evidence of impact from various contributing factors, with the hope to construct better strategies to improve relationship between alumni and the University. These findings can also be referenced by other university as information to strength the management of alumni-school relationship.

AbstractThis case addresses the challenge of leadership succession in a highly respected master’s program at a university in Australia. The director, who was also the program’s lead professor, was due to retire, and the distinctive nature of the program made it particularly difficult to find a suitable replacement. To complicate the challenge, the university’s central administration was not supportive of that master’s degree, whereas it achieved the highest satisfaction ratings in the university from students and enjoyed good support from industry; the director’s insistence on quality of educational experience resulted in tight control of student admission, fewer students, and lower revenue than competing programs.A highly engaged group of students and alumni took on this challenge, working with the outgoing director to sustain impressive results over a 5-year period.

UCL (University College London) strongly supports the implementation of Open Science policies and practices. The library has taken the lead in the university across all eight areas of Open Science: the Future of Scholarly Communication, the EOSC, FAIR data, Skills, Research Integrity, Rewards, Altmetrics, and Citizen Science. UCL has modified these themes slightly to better fit its academic requirements, developing ambitious programmes and services to support the change of culture which is required. From the future of scholarly publishing, with the formation of UCL Press as the UK's first fully open access university press, to research data management, rewards, research integrity and next-generation metrics, UCL has become a leader in Open Science. This chapter analyses the success of UCL to date, describes the challenges, shows the benefits, and indicates what future steps are being planned to deliver a culture where Open Science is the default, thus delivering on the prophecy of Mahatma Ghandi, one of UCL's most illustrious alumni, ‘The future depends on what you do today'.

Building upon the extensive arrays of geographical, cultural, and historical data that are available for Western Apache territory, field school students engaged in community-based participatory research with Western Apache elders and tribal natural and heritage resource personnel to contribute to the Western Apache tribes' efforts to document their cultural histories, traditional ecological knowledge, local understanding of geography, and issues of historic and contemporary resource management. This essay reviews the program and traces how student alumni have incorporated skills and perspectives gained into their subsequent academic and professional work.

Abstract:
On June 26, 1933, the University of Wisconsin offered Aldo Leopold a position teaching the nation’s first graduate program in game management. The New York Times hailed it as the “one and only ‘wild-game chair.’” This was the chance he’d been waiting for. Despite the small salary, Leopold accepted. Letters of congratulation filled the mailbox at 2222 Van Hise. Among them was one from none other than the preservationist crusader W. T. Hornaday: …My Dear Ally, I salute the University of Wisconsin, for its foresight and enterprise in establishing the first Collegiate Professorship of Game Management created in the United States… . I congratulate the Wisconsin Alumni Foundation on its correct initiative in the choice of the Best Man for the new foundation… . It is all a helpful gesture in the struggle to save American game and sport from finally going over the precipice, A.D. 1940. …Leopold set up shop in “two small, rather dark rooms” in the basement of the university’s Soils Building. As an outsider to the academic establishment, he was expected to be more of a free-floating conservation resource for the state than a departmental teacher. He outlined some of his duties for the Milwaukee Journal: ...To conduct research in the life history of Wisconsin birds and mammals; develop cropping methods suitable for their preservation and increase; train men to devise and apply such methods; impart to other students a general understanding of the wild life conservation problem; assist farmers and other landowners in selecting and applying cropping methods; integrate game with other uses of land; and advise conservation officers on questions of wild life management and policy. …He was charged with giving radio talks and public addresses, overseeing soil erosion and game-cropping projects, and helping plan a university arboretum and wildlife refuge—all before the official teaching would begin. Since conservation was “a way of living on land” for Leopold, he wanted to involve as many people as possible.

Abstract:
The present paper explores the use of the professional social network LinkedIn in the teaching of official masters. It is based on two projects of teaching innovation that are based on the information contained in the alumni profiles of the Master in Hotel Companies Management of the Complutense University of Madrid. Thanks to its analysis, valuable information about the insertion and career of the master’s graduates is obtained, while it implies a greater interrelation between the academic and labour world. In this way, the quality of the teaching-learning process can be verified and improved with the approach of the labour world and the incorporation of the experiences of alumni to the classroom as an enrichment of regulated teaching.

Abstract:
At the 2015 International Hospital Federation (IHF) World Congress in Chicago, Illinois, USA, the Global Consortium for Healthcare Management Professionalization presented a call to action to professionalize the field of healthcare management. Governments and organizations that seek to realize the benefits of professional healthcare managers may meet this challenge by providing educational opportunities to established executives who are positioned to lead and ultimately mentor future managers. This paper introduces a case example of an executive graduate program in health administration, delivered by a university in the United States in partnership with the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia, with the aim of developing Saudi healthcare professionals as healthcare leaders. We share challenges, experiences and insights related to adapting a US curriculum for the Saudi working executives during a time of transformation in the Kingdom. We also provide a detailed description of the Executive Management Study, an applied synthesis activity required for all executive learners in the program. Results of an alumni survey are incorporated to demonstrate graduates’ perceptions of the effectiveness of the learning experience.

Abstract:
Techniques for teaching communication skills to engineering students of the Millennial Generation are reviewed. A detailed outline of the characteristics of the Millennial Generation are described and compared to the traits of other generations. The Millennial Generation has several distinct characteristics such as developing inclusive relationships, tolerating authority, and leading by collaboration. This contrasts with the characteristics of the Baby Boomers and Generation X (the majority of professors and the students’ parents); however, the characteristics align closely with the Traditionalist Generation (higher administration and the students’ grandparents). Strategies for working among the generations are detailed resulting in the creation of an understanding of how to teach to the Millennial Generation. In order to aid the understanding, lesson plans which focus on creating a learner-centered environment are detailed. The lesson plans include objectives, strategies, content, activities, assessment techniques, and ABET alignment. The topics include team building, effective meetings, a term project, writing skills, and speaking skills. Team building illustrates why and how a team achieves its objectives. Example activities include the development of a team charter. The effective meetings lesson plan details techniques on how to teach students project management skills. Criteria for developing term projects to match the Millennial Generation characteristics are detailed, and an example which also includes K-12 outreach activities is presented. The lesson plan for speaking and writing skills defines grading rubrics for the evaluation and assessment of technical writing and presentations. This work has been in development and implemented for nearly five years in a junior level, multidisciplinary course entitled, Engineering Communications, at the University of Nevada, Reno. The lesson plans are evaluated based on course evaluations, industry interviews, case studies, and an alumni survey.
