Abstract:
This paper, grounded in a critical reading of Alain Corbin’s recent History of Silence, proposes a twofold development. The first part is methodological, arguing for the necessity of studying the acoustic phenomena of the past in a way that is distinct from emotion and does not focus solely on conveying experience. The historiography of the notion of “soundscapes,” invented by musicologist Raymond Murray Schafer, is used to assess the contribution of “sound studies,” “sensory history,” and the anthropology of the senses. The heuristic capacities of this notion are emphasized, as is the need to locate it within a coherent topographical and chronological framework. The second section of the article develops a case study based on these methodological prescriptions, focusing on silence in the religious rites of ancient Rome. The acoustic frame of ritual perfection, silentium was also a category of Roman religious law and very far from the quest for interiority and spiritual life that Corbin considers a natural part of silence. An analysis of the nature and function of silence in two different rites, taking the auspices and sacrifice, confirms the need for a thorough and contextualized historical approach to acoustic phenomena: behind a unified terminology lie two radically different acoustic realities.

Abstract:
Zusammenfassung Einleitung Trotz der Größe der Paralympischen Spiele und der Vielzahl der Menschen mit Behinderung besteht ein Mangel an Studien zum Thema (Hoch-) Leistungssport mit Behinderung. Major-Verletzungen im deutschen paralympischen Ski Alpin sollten im Rahmen einer Kohortenstudie erfasst und retrospektiv analysiert und dargestellt werden. Patienten und Methoden Über 25 Jahre wurden im deutschen paralympischen Ski-Team im Wettkampf und Training sämtliche Verletzungen, die mit einem strukturellen Schaden einhergingen, dokumentiert. Es erfolgte eine deskriptive statische Auswertung. Ergebnisse 22 von 94 Athleten (23 %) zogen sich Major-Verletzungen zu. Dies waren 12 (55 %) Sportler der Kategorie „sitzend“, 9 (41 %) der Kategorie „stehend“ und 1 Athlet (5 %) der Kategorie „sehbehindert“. Am häufigsten waren Verletzungen der oberen Extremität (n = 9,41 %), insbesondere der Schulter (n = 8,36 %). Vor allem sitzende Athleten zogen sich Schulterverletzungen zu. Die mit Abstand verletzungsträchtigsten Disziplinen waren die Speed-Disziplinen Abfahrtslauf und Super G (n = 17,77 %). Die Verletzungsrate betrug durchschnittlich 7 % der Athleten/Jahr. In unserer Kohorte verletzten sich absolut die meisten Athleten während der Paralympischen Spiele in Nagano 1998 (n = 4). Die höchste Verletzungsrate hingegen beobachteten wir während der Paralympischen Spiele in Sotchi 2014 (33 %). Diskussion Die aktuelle Datenlage weist darauf hin, dass, anders als bisher angenommen, das Verletzungsrisiko paralympischer Athleten höher zu sein scheint als bei olympischen Athleten. Insbesondere sitzende Athleten haben ein erhöhtes Risiko für Verletzungen. Diesen sollte bei Präventionsmaßnahmen eine besondere Beachtung zukommen. Ein intensiviertes Training der Rumpfmuskulatur erscheint sinnvoll. Technische Hilfsmittel wie der Monoskibob verdienen besondere Aufmerksamkeit, um eine sichere Funktion zu gewährleisten. Schulterverletzungen sind bei sitzenden Athleten gleichzeitig besonders häufig und besonders fatal. Ein sorgsames Krafttraining der Schulter erscheint unabdingbar. Zur Reduzierung der Verletzungshäufigkeit und -schwere ist die Weiterentwicklung von Präventionsmaßnahmen unabdingbar. Die weitere Professionalisierung des paralympischen Wettkampfs und Trainings erachten wir als sinnvoll. Schlussfolgerung Sitzende Sportler weisen eine erhöhte Verletzungsrate auf und neigen zu Schulterverletzungen. Gerade diese sind für die Athleten im Alltag häufig fatal. Die Weiterentwicklung von Präventionsmaßnahmen erachten wir als essenziell für die Zukunft des paralympischen Sports.

Abstract:
Today French women are more likely to be in salaried employment than their male counterparts, albeit being overrepresented in low-paid, part-time jobs. This chapter argues that one of the most striking cultural manifestations of these shifts in the relationship between sex and employment has been the emergence of the highly ambiguous figure of the femme forte, the strong working woman. Recent novels and films by Éric Reinhardt, Laurent Quintreau, Philippe Vasset, Alain Corneau, Natalie Kuperman, and Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar offer examples of one iteration of the femme forte – the calculating, manipulative, ruthless senior female executive whose pursuit of her career goals requires she abjure all her maternal instincts to become a particular kind of femme fatale, an updated version of Lady Macbeth or the Marquise de Meurteuil. The films, novels, and reportage of Medhi Charef, Florence Aubenas, François Bon, and Robert Guédiguian, meanwhile, offer a different, apparently more flattering iteration of the femme forte – the middle-aged working class woman who, in the face of the loss of stable male industrial employment, bravely struggles to keep family and community together, personifying an embattled tradition of working class struggle. The chapter analyses the ideological implications of these contrasting representations of the femme forte.
