Theoretical aspects of influence of hydrometeorological factors on growth, development and efficiency of crops are stated. Relational aggression hurts because it damages friendships and social status (Crick & Grotpeter, 1995). The subtlety of behaviors such as malicious gossip, social exclusion, and relationship manipulation poses serious challenges for researchers seeking to measure relational aggression in reliable and valid ways. This chapter will review the methods used to measure relational aggression: self-reports, parent reports, teacher reports, peer nominations and ratings, diary and experience-sampling methods, observational approaches, and innovative experimental methods. Advantages and disadvantages of each method will be discussed, and evidence for validity will be presented. The chapter will also highlight why choices about methods of measuring relational aggression matter by noting key research questions that are answered in different ways, depending on the method used. The chapter will conclude with a summary of where we stand in terms of evidence for validity and inter-rater agreement and will also offer suggestions for future research.

Abstract:

This chapter presents some empirical findings detailing how experts (philosophers) and laypeople (engineering students) have actually applied the geometric method. The upshot is that, on a group level, experts as well as laypeople apply domain-specific principles in roughly the manner prescribed by the geometric method. The author’s studies are based on data gathered from 240 academic philosophers in the United States and Europe, as well as two groups of 583 and 541 engineering students at Texas A&M University. By showing that experts as well as laypeople exhibit the ability to apply the geometric method in a coherent manner, doubts regarding its viability and complexity can be rebutted. The experimental findings demonstrate that many of us can apply geometrically construed moral principles to real-world cases. Therefore it would be a mistake to think that only fully rational agents with unlimited cognitive capacities are able to adopt the geometric method.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance plays an important role in the early detection of resistant strains of public health importance and prompt response to outbreaks in hospitals and the community. Surveillance findings are needed to inform medical practice, antibiotic stewardship, and policy and interventions to combat AMR. Appropriate use of antimicrobials, informed by surveillance, improves patients’ treatment outcomes and reduces the emergence and spread of AMR. This protocol describes the steps and procedures to establish/enhance AMR surveillance in Latin America and the Caribbean. It provides technical guidance to integrate patient, laboratory, and epidemiological data to monitor AMR emergence, trends, and effects in the population. It also provides the necessary elements to move from aggregated data to isolate-level data surveillance starting with blood isolates. It facilitates uniform data collection processes, methods, and tools to ensure data comparability within the Region of the Americas. Finally, it builds on over a decade of experience of the regional AMR surveillance network—ReLAVRA by its Spanish acronym—and its procedures are aligned with the Global Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System (GLASS) methodology, enabling countries to participate in the global GLASS AMR surveillance.

Identifying the genes involved in language not only is important for the understanding of disorders such as ASDs but also provides a window into understanding the evolution of the human brain. Spoken language is only present in humans. For example, while other animals have developed methods of vocal communication, none have the ability to convey recursive ideas (i.e., ideas embedded within other ideas), although the idea of human-specific recursion is still being debated (Hauser, Chomsky, & Fitch, 2002; Penn, Holyoak, & Povinelli, 2008; Pinker & Jackendoff, 2005; Premack, 2007). Other potentially human-specific features of language include teaching language, the use of language to teach an extrinsic skill, and the use of language to develop the theory of mind (Penn et al., 2008; Premack, 2007). It is therefore not surprising that inherently human-specific diseases such as ASDs are defined by disruption of spoken language (Abrahams & Geschwind, 2008).

Abstract:

This chapter presents science and technology studies (STS) as a new island in a preexisting disciplinary archipelago. As a field, STS combines two strands of work dealing, respectively, with the nature and practices of science and technology (S&T) and the relationships between science, technology, and society. As such, STS research focuses on distinctive objects of inquiry and employs novel discourses and methods. The field confronts three significant barriers to achieving greater intellectual coherence, and institutional recognition. First, it must persuade skeptical scientists and university administrators of the need for a critical perspective on S&T. Second, it must demonstrate that traditional disciplines do not adequately analyze S&T. Third, it has to overcome STS scholars’ reluctance to create intellectual boundaries and membership criteria that appear to exclude innovative work. A generation of scholars with graduate degrees in STS are helping to meet these challenges.

Psychodrama is a method of research and intervention in interpersonal relationships. Objective: The aim of the present study is to investigate and train group relationships in a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Material & Methods: Participants: The study population included employees who work in a Basic Family Health (UBSF), which was randomly selected. This facility was located in a medium-sized city within the state of São Paulo. We used the following tools: Form of Profile Survey and Interview Guide associated to Socio-demographic Data, Relational Functioning, and the team’s Sociometric choices. The researchers designed other Instruments of Protocol. Procedure: The participants responded to the study instruments and subsequently they underwent the Role Playing Program. They were re-evaluated at the end of the Development and Training Roles Program and reassessed at the end of the program. Patients show good clinical evaluation free of complications in a 60-day follow-up. Conclusions: The results show changes and improvements in the personal lives of those involved in their performance at work, and in the creation of coping strategies due to the professional role. Our results also indicate the importance of continuous and permanent training to maintain the properly functioning of the team. The participants also need a greater time to achieve internal and subjective changes identified with the intervention. We achieved the proposed objectives, which were as follows: effectiveness of the sociopsychodramatic methodology in groups regarding training and role play and changes in interdisciplinary relationships. However, more research on a case by case basis is recommended in order to generalize the results.

Does it feel different when I am aware that these arms are my own and when I am not? Advocates of the liberal view reply positively and claim that we have a primitive nonconceptual awareness of bodily ownership, whereas advocates of the conservative view reject a distinctive experiential signature for the sense of bodily ownership: ownership is something that we believe in, and not something that we experience. How to adjudicate the debate? This chapter appeals to the method of phenomenal contrast to argue that feelings of ownership are not philosophical fictions, contrary to what some have claimed. To do so, the chapter analyses in detail the rubber hand illusion and syndromes of disownership and rejects a cognitive interpretation of these cases.

For the interview, historically positioned on this boundary, the possibilities are manifold, if not yet certain. Methodologically, the long-standing dominance of interviewing within the social sciences is being called into question as web-based and social media platforms generate big data pools. The chapter discusses the import of chatbots and formats such as Reddit’s AMA for the interview’s future. It speculates that as the interview method becomes less tethered to data collection, within the literary field it may well become more overtly associated with the life writing tradition, recognized for its aesthetic features and creative possibilities.

The teacher training in Professional and Technologic Education (PTE) has been done by streamlined, fragmented and discontinuous government programmes. Notwithstanding, law No. 13415/2017 has established notorious knowledge, which the trend is to consolidate the precarious policies of teacher training for PTE. In this paper, I have the purpose of discussing the norms for teaching method considering the recurrent and historical gap in the effective policies of the obligation of training for the degree level or pedagogy complementation for the practice of the teacher profession. Moreover, my experience in the training and development of teachers of PTE substantiated the debate about teaching and learning methodologies and provided testimonies which might be appreciated for interested in deepening their knowledge in this subject. After the discussion about norms aspects, we will board to the education and its nuances station. The first stop is in the applied neurosciences station, where the passengers can do a fast visit to cognitive aspects important for understanding how young people learning. The driver whistles announcing the departure and soon he arrives in the station of active methodologies of learning (AML). Although it is not the end, might the passengers give up to continue the trip because in this station the tour is prolonged and interesting, thus take more time and dedication of tourists. The guide announces that the guided tour starts by theoretical concepts of AML and will finish by testimonies which collaborate for the interaction of the theory and practice.

Implied trusts can be either resulting or constructive. Resulting trusts fall into two categories, automatic or presumed. Constructive trusts are more difficult to define as the scope of their application seems to have been ‘left deliberately vague’ so that the courts can develop them as needed. There are no formalities for the creation of implied trusts. The law has developed methods of identifying the creation of implied trusts. Implied trusts are particularly important in relation to the family home.

Chapter three examines the implications of the rise of sociology for literary understandings of the interview in the interwar years. Sociology’s emphasis on the interview as a process by which information could be extracted and meaning jointly produced made the interview appealing to authors in a period in which the public sphere was increasingly conceived as a fragmented arena wherein the author might struggle to communicate with his or her readers and critics. As a case study, the chapter examines a series of interviews written by American academic and journalist Louise Morgan, published in the London-based Everyman and later anthologized by Chatto & Windus. Drawing on the archives of Morgan and the publisher, the chapter elucidates the ways in which Morgan’s experiments in interviewing were conceived as both middlebrow and as engaging with the new methods of ‘Practical Criticism’ and ‘close reading’.

This article demonstrates the utility of Bayesian modelling and inference in financial market volatility analysis, using the 2007-2008 credit crisis as a case study. It first describes the applied problem and goal of the Bayesian analysis before introducing the sequential estimation models. It then discusses the simulation-based methodology for inference, including Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) and particle filtering methods for filtering and parameter learning. In the study, Bayesian sequential model choice techniques are used to estimate volatility and volatility dynamics for daily data for the year 2007 for three market indices: the Standard and Poor’s S&P500, the NASDAQ NDX100 and the financial equity index called XLF. Three models of financial time series are estimated: a model with stochastic volatility, a model with stochastic volatility that also incorporates jumps in volatility, and a Garch model.
