Abstract:
<strong>Aims: </strong>To investigate the susceptibility profile of bacterial isolates from hand dug wells and borehole waters within the Amai Kingdom, in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State. <strong>Place and Duration of Study:</strong> Department of Microbiology, Novena University, between April 2016 and November 2016. <strong>Methodology:</strong> A total of 30 boreholes and 30 well water samples were randomly sourced using sterile tightly locked plastic containers and transported to the laboratory within 2 hours. The water samples were cultured using spread plate method and the pure bacterial isolates tested for susceptibility to some commercial antibiotic discs using the Kirby-Bauer method. <strong>Results:</strong> Bacteria were isolated respectively from 50% and 100% of the borehole and well water samples collected. A total of 45 bacterial isolates, distributed among the genera <em>Staphylococcus </em>(6.7%), <em>Bacillus </em>(10.0%), <em>Escherichia </em>(16.7%), <em>Pseudomonas</em> (11.7%) <em>Enterobacter</em> (8.3%), <em>Proteus</em> (10.0%), and <em>Klebsiella</em> (11.7%), was encountered. Majority of the isolates were sensitive to Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, Ciprofloxacin, Ceftriaxone, Gentamicin, Ofloxacin, and resistant to Ampicillin, Cotrimoxazole and Tetracycline. <em>Bacillus </em>sp (56%) was more resistant (<em>p</em>=.05) than <em>S. aureus</em> (33%), while the most resistant Gram-negative bacteria was <em>Pseudomonas</em> sp. (54%), followed by both <em>E. coli </em>(44%) and <em>Klebsiella </em>sp (44%), and both <em>Proteus</em> sp., (33%) and <em>Enterobacter</em> sp. (33%). Drug resistance was observed in at least three of the tested antibiotic disks. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> Findings from this study suggest that the drinking water sources in the Amai Kingdom are bacteriologically poor, with multiple-drug resistant bacteria, and thus of public health importance. Public education on dangers associated with indiscriminate dumping of waste and drug abuse is strongly recommended.

Abstract:
Historically, Salome was an unexceptional figure who never catalyzed John the Baptist's death. However, in Christian Scripture, she becomes the dancing seductress as fallen daughter of Eve. Her stepfather Herod promises Salome his kingdom if she dances for him, but she follows her mother’s wish to have John beheaded. In Strauss’s opera, after Wilde's Symbolist-Decadent play, Salome becomes independent of Herodias’ will, and the mythic avatar of the femme fatale and persecuted artist who Herod has killed after she kisses John's severed head. Her signature key of C# major, resolving to the C major sung by Herod and Jokanaan at her death, represent her tragic fate musically.

Abstract:
The city layout system has long been known in civilization in the archipelago. One of the city layout systems that exist in the civilization of the archipelago itself is the city layout system of the Majapahit Kingdom. Based on some evidence of relics in Mojokerto (Trowulan) which is thought to be the capital of the Majapahit kingdom (Wilwatikta). It can be seen that the Majapahit kingdom already had a very good city layout system, especially the layout for residential areas. The city layout system used by the Majapahit kingdom was able to arrange the location of residential areas very well to prevent the occurrence of slum settlements. Therefore, through this research, it will be studied in depth about the city planning system used by the Majapahit kingdom in regulating the regional development of cities during the Majapahit era, especially the capital of the Majapahit kingdom (Wilwatikta). With the aim of knowing the layout system of the Majapahit city and making it a solution for regional development and overcoming the problem of slum settlements in the current generation Z.&#x0D; Sistem tata letak kota sudah lama dikenal dalam peradaban di Nusantara.

Abstract:
This chapter examines Baijie’s next form, Baijie Amei, which developed in the fifteenth century after the Dali kingdom had become part of the Ming dynasty. Baijie Amei’s legend shows how Dali elites drew on Chinese historiographical conventions in formulating a local Bai ethnic identity. According to her legend, Baijie Amei was born from a giant plum and conceived Duan Siping, founder of the Dali kingdom, after touching a dragon. This story mirrors Chinese tales about great rulers that claim dragon paternity, but diverges from Chinese conventions by giving Baijie Amei her own miraculous birth. Chinese officials accepted that male rulers could have miraculous births, but not that their mothers could, too. Baijie Amei remained a powerful symbol for Bai elites in Dali who claimed direct descent from her and worshiped her as a goddess that linked them to the illustrious Bai lineage of Dali’s independent history.

Abstract:
Abstract Foreign languages are tricky. Quite often, identical words have virtually identical meanings (e.g., “organisation” in both French and British English). Such words are called cognates, and they facilitate the learning of a foreign language. However, not all identical words are cognates. Many identical words can mean something slightly different to something completely different and, on occasion, even something obscene. French teachers call such words fauxamis, or “false friends.” Faux amis happen not only across languages, but also within the same language. Take, for example, the word “football.” Football in the United Kingdom is not the football of the United States, which is not the football of Australia. As a faux ami, the word “football” is insidious because the meanings lie in a gray area. All the footballs are related: all are played with feet and balls, but, nevertheless, all are quite distinct; an American would distinguish them respectively as soccer, football, and Aussie-rules football. It is far easier for an American and an Australian to confound the meaning of a word like “football” than to confound the meaning of a word that, by its context, clearly means something different.

Abstract:
Abstract Just before dawn on a spring morning in 1806, thirteen-year-old Anta Majigeen Njaay was asleep when men on horseback, their long, braided hair flying out behind them, charged into her prosperous West African village in Senegambia, just south of the Sahara Desert. Anta awoke to the terrifying sounds of battle, and by the end of the morning, these frightening men had killed her father, several of her uncles, and many of the village’s other men. The invaders were warrior slaves, the special armed force of Amari Ngoone Ndella Kumba, king of Kajor, a coastal kingdom that had risen to power in Senegambia during the eighteenth century, carved out of the old Wolof empire of Jolof. Their job protecting Kajor and its ruler extended to raiding enemy villages and delivering valuable goods to the king. They also took prisoners to be traded to European slave dealers in return for fine fabrics, wines, and weapons. Occasionally, when too few enemies were available for slaves, they raided villages like Anta’s, villages supposedly under the king’s protection. By noon on the day of the raid, the soldiers had packed up looted goods and rounded up captives, including Anta, her mother, many of her other relatives, and the family servants. Slave traders cared little whether the captives were slaves, free artisans, or nobility like Anta, who was descended from the founder of the Jolof Empire and whose large Njaay family had provided generations of rulers.

In Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. IOS Press, 2011. https://doi.org/10.3233/978-1-60750-740-6-25.

Abstract:
The EU-ADR project aims to exploit different European electronic healthcare records (EHR) databases for drug safety signal detection. In this paper we report the preliminary results concerning the comparison of signal detection between EU-ADR network and two spontaneous reporting databases, the Food and Drug Administration and World Health Organization databases. EU-ADR data sources consist of eight databases in four countries (Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, and United Kingdom) that are virtually linked through distributed data network. A custom-built software (Jerboa&amp;copy;) elaborates harmonized input data that are produced locally and generates aggregated data which are then stored in a central repository. Those data are subsequently analyzed through different statistics (i.e. Longitudinal Gamma Poisson Shrinker). As potential signals, all the drugs that are associated to six events of interest (bullous eruptions - BE, acute renal failure - ARF, acute myocardial infarction - AMI, anaphylactic shock - AS, rhabdomyolysis - RHABD, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding - UGIB) have been detected via different data mining techniques in the two systems. Subsequently a comparison concerning the number of drugs that could be investigated and the potential signals detected for each event in the spontaneous reporting systems (SRSs) and EU-ADR network was made. SRSs could explore, as potential signals, a larger number of drugs for the six events, in comparison to EU-ADR (range: 630-3,393 vs. 87-856), particularly for those events commonly thought to be potentially drug-induced (i.e. BE: 3,393 vs. 228). The highest proportion of signals detected in SRSs was found for BE, ARF and AS, while for ARF, and UGIB in EU-ADR. In conclusion, it seems that EU-ADR longitudinal database network may complement traditional spontaneous reporting system for signal detection, especially for those adverse events that are frequent in general population and are not commonly thought to be drug-induced. The methodology for signal detection in EU-ADR is still under development and testing phase.

Abstract:
The Spanish-Muslim fortification of the Burriana’s medina (Castellón)This communication aims to publicize the latest archeological findings related to the Spanish-Muslim wall of Burriana, obtained thanks to the interventions carried out throughout the twenty-first century, in which new sectors and towers of the wall have been evidenced, and that they also clarify some ancient historical and archaeological news about the fortification. We highlight the documentation of the construction technique of the wall, which provides interesting data on its chronology, recently established around the eleventh century. The relationship between the defensive structure and other recent archaeological findings associated with this period are examined, such as some necropolis and elements of the urban plot. Finally, an analysis of the historical and territorial context of the defensive structure and the Spanish-Muslim city will be carried out, since Burriana’s medina was an important administrative and commercial center, a stopping point on the land route between Tortosa and Valencia, and cited as an amal that also had a seaport, according to some sources. We do not forget that the madīna is also a prominent enclave in the historical events related to the Christian razzias of the eleventh and twelfth centuries, and in the subsequent process of conquest of the kingdom of Valencia at the beginning of the thirteenth century, as reflected in the chronicles of the time.
