Abstract:
Light capture efficiency (Ea) and mass-based daily carbon gain (Amass) were compared between saplings of a deciduous tree species, Ficus erecta Thunb. and the co-occurring evergreen broadleaved tree species, Neolitsea aciculata (Bl.) Koidzumi, in a temperate forest in Japan. Using obtained data and an ecophysiological–architectural model, we calculated the Ea and Amass of each study sapling. We also analysed the response of Amass to changes in photosynthetic traits and Ea. Saplings of F. erecta had a higher Amass than N. aciculata, due to the high leaf area : aboveground mass ratio (LAR). The

Abstract:
The lepidopterans in Raymond Wooff`s collection in the Manchester Museum are distinctively curated and represent an assemblage of insects in the classic Aurelian tradition but created in the twentieth century. This collection was established on index cards, with only butterfly/moth wings being mounted and laminated onto cards. Despite being such an unusual collecting and preservation technique, it illustrates how a dedicated field biologist, with limited resources, can amass a significant, data-rich Lepidoptera collection that provides reliable information on distribution, habitat preferences

Grid computing is that the major analysis space wherever the distributed resources square measure used. In programming, the largest challenge is to amass optimum answer for the submitted jobs within the grid. For giant subtask need time intense computation, this paper introduces a replacement fault recovery mechanism into grid systems associated an thorough study on grid service. We have a tendency to propose a replacement algorithmic program on considering these factors. In our planned algorithmic program Recovery Mutual programming, a catalog is employed which is able to be responsive in acc

“Once more on the sound value of Gardiner Sign-List U 23” There has been a dispute about the reading of the sign Gardiner, Sign-List U23. I myself have given arguments that contrary to the traditional reading as mr, a more correct reading is mHr. This proposal has been accepted by a number of scholars, some of them even contributing further proof for this reading. However, others have disagreed, thus Ilona Regulski, Dimitri Meeks and especially Simon Schweitzer. The aim of this contribution is to amass all the evidence in favor of the new proposal and at the same time refute the counter-argume

The founding of a platina refinery in Madrid in 1786 required the establishment of a system for collecting platina from the Chocó district of New Granada in South America and shipping it to Spain. After several unsuccessful attempts to amass platina over many years, the Viceroy of New Granada ordered a district attorney at the Santa Fé Audiencia to arrange an official visit to the Chocó district to establish a Royal monopoly in platina and to set up a local collection procedure. This time it was successful and the shipment to Spain of a considerable amount of platina took place between 1788 an

Changes to promoter regions probably have been responsible for many morphological evolutionary transitions, especially in animals. This idea is becoming testable, as data from genome projects amass and enable bioinformaticians to conduct comparative sequence analyses and test for correlations between genotypic similarities or differences and phenotypic likeness or disparity. Although such practical pursuits have initiated some theoretical considerations, a conceptual framework for understanding promoter region evolution, potentially effecting morphological evolution, is only starting to emerge

This article was based on a presentation that was given at the IFLA-Art Libraries Section Satellite Conference. In an effort to push toward a more multidisciplinary and holistic approach to the data generated throughout the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, staff have been investigating new ways in which to amass, organize, and use that data. Segueing from a GIS mapping initiative, one such project sought to amalgamate disparate kinds of data centering around pigment analysis. This led to a multidepartment team trialing software solutions, raising questions and identifying challenges
