Abstract:
Abstract Luther’s treatise is presented as an answer to attacks from the Italian Dominican Ambrosius Catharinus. The language is highly invective, and Luther’s argument culminates in a comprehensive biblical verification of a terrifying truth: that the pope is the Antichrist foreseen in several biblical texts. The papal Curia is part of the Antichrist’s realm. Relating to Heiko Oberman’s thoughts on the theological roots of Luther’s “invectivity,” the article offers a closer look into Luther’s radically offensive language in his early years, arguing that it was closely linked to his central th

Während einige Dominikaner, u.a. Abstract:
AbstractThe hermeneutical method of tracing the 'history of effects', pioneered by Ulrich Luz, has recently been appreciated by Pentecostal biblical scholars as holding much promise for moving beyond notions of 'flat text' to recog nize the word of God moving in and through life. As a case study in this method, this paper examines the interpretations of 3 Jn 2 as they surface in the works of Tertullian, Augustine, Bede, Le Maistre De Sacy, Ambrosius Catharinus, John Bird Sumner, Albert Barnes, Carrie Judd Montgomery, Oral Roberts, Kenneth Hagin, Raymond Brown, Frederick Price, and Paul Yonggi

Abstract:
The development of the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin has a long history. This article deals with a small but important segment of this development, by providing some account of what was at stake and of the main stages by which the contest was fought out, principally within the Dominican Order, between 1515 and 1551.The development here considered is really sandwiched between two Councils, the Fifth Lateran on the one hand, and Trent on the other, at which the thought of settling a very contentious issue was first entertained and then dismissed. The need for a settlement b
