Abstract:
This Proceedings is dedicated to Dr. Robert George Dean. For more than 12 years (1992-2004), Dr. Dean served as Chairman of the Coastal Engineering Research Council, the organization that is responsible for providing the coastal engineering profession with its most important conference, the ICCE. His motto was “the Coastal Engineering Research Council does one thing and we do it well”—ensuring that a high-quality conference is held every two years and that a proceedings is created as a record of the state of the art. We all can agree with that.

Abstract Background: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is recommended as a bladder-preserving treatment option for selected patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Pembrolizumab has shown clinical activity across many stages of bladder cancer, and ongoing phase 2 studies (ANZUP 1502, NCT02662062; NCT02621151) of pembrolizumab + CRT are promising. The global, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter, phase 3 KEYNOTE-992 study (NCT04241185) will be conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of pembrolizumab + CRT in patients with previously untreated MIBC who op

Problems of Research and Purpose. In the theory of general geomorphology, the section on coastal-marine processes at the genetic contact-zone between Land and Ocean assigns importance to the study of relief associations. One such complex of geomorphologic association on maritime coastlines is the winged-forelands. They consist of interconnected complex capes, active cliffs, typical benches, sandy beaches, and aeolian forms. Wind, sea wave, geobotanical, zoogeographical, geochemical, and other factors contribute to their development. Their morphology and dynamics are determined by lithodynamic

In partnership with the Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (SECOORA) and the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Association, the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) conducted a survey to better understand coastal communities’ water level observing needs. While the survey size was small, it was geographically dispersed along the coastal regions of the U.S. The results of this survey and the experience of the Southeast Water Level Network team should be useful to inform a national effort to expand the network.

Informed by two annual surveys, a multiple-choice online poll was conducted in 2019 to evaluate stakeholders’ most pressing problems and needs, including those they felt most ill-equipped to deal with in their day-to-day duties and which tools they most need to address these challenges. AbstractRip current awareness is essential for safety of the beach-going American public. In this study, we investigated American adults’ awareness of ocean safety via an online survey. A total of 1226 respondents participated in the survey. The results revealed that only 44% of the participants were aware that rip currents are the major cause of drownings in the United States. Most participants (64%) reported that the best way to escape a rip current was by swimming parallel (sideways) to the shore, while 8% reported it to be floating and letting the current carry one; further 3% of the respo

Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film not only claimed the title of the highest-grossing film of the year but also prompted its audience to reconsider a character they had previously mostly overlooked; another one of Barbie’s many accessories: Ken. Ken's identity as Barbie's companion is fundamentally dependent upon the presence and recognition of his more prominent female counterpart.
