The aim of the presented study is to provide an overview of the main areas and directions of criminological research worldwide. Despite its seemingly restrictive name, it brings together not only criminologists from the USA, but from some 60 countries around the world. The 75th Annual Meeting in San Francisco has so far been the largest criminology forum in the past six years and the second largest in terms of attendance in the more than 80-year history of the ASC. A recent issue of Criminology (1988), the official publication of the American Society of Criminology, was devoted largely to what some call the age-crime debate. This debate has pitted the giants of American criminology, with the ubiquitous assistance of David Farrington, against the authors of this paper. It has gone on long enough that each side now accuses the other of repetition and lack of understanding. It has gone on long enough that even those not directly involved are beginning to show signs of weariness. It has perhaps gone on long enough that it is time to reconsider what the debat

Abstract This chapter provides a comprehensive review of the scholarly discourse surrounding the concept of an "international crime drop" during the 1990s and 2000s, examining four distinct interpretative narratives that have shaped our understanding of global crime trends. Through a chronological analysis of key publications, conferences, and research initiatives, the chapter traces how the concept evolved from observations of declining crime rates in the United States to broader international applications. The author identifies and analyzes four major narratives: the All-American narrative,
