Full textThe purpose of our thesis is to discuss a specific set of problems : the problems that arise from applying a pattern of intensive accumulation to an industrially-based developping economy. This specific discussion is set within the framework of more wide-ranging considerations bearing on the models of development and accumulation applied in latin america. We use the model concept here in its modal sense : conjunction of an accumulation system and institutional forms of regulation. These concepts are defined and discussed in the first part of our thesis. Long range transformations of accumulation systems and regulation procedures are studied in the context of argentinian growth (19301980). We look at the major features of the accumulation pattern : the different elements of intensive growth patterns as affected by external constraints (leading sectors, accumulation of capital and employment, fluctuations and cycle. . . ) dovetailing with the world economy, the macro-economic equilibrium within this regime of industrial accumulation. In the third part we present a discussion of the main characteristics of wages regulation and the consumption norm. This exercise in applied economics will have served, we hope, to buttress certain theories while confuting certain over-simple views held on the specificity of reproduction of capital and of work-force in a semi-industrialized economy

Full textThe Mercosud which regroup Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay is without doubt, the project that came closest to realising integration in Latin America. This research highlights first of all economic and political conditions that have historically promoted the creation of the Mercosud. These processes were formalised by the Treaty of Ansuncion in 1991. This research helps to draw out methodological comparisons with the European Union. It describes specific mechanisms of integration particularly the institutional ones involved in these processes. Finally based on interviews conducted among government representatives from Brazil and Argentina as well as trans-national corporations it shed light on how relationships between the different actors involved influence and continue to influence the processes of integration. In conclusion, this thesis considers the shape of development in the Mercosud and analyses in depth social, economic and political implications and limitation

Full textThis thesis studies the panamanian economy and its mode of insertion in the american productive system from a regulationist point of view. Different panamanian dominated spaces, including the canal, are focused in historical perspective, which enphasizes the struggle between centers and the processes of capital's destructuration and restructuration in peripheries during crisis periods. Nation building's difficulties in panama at different periods are also examinated; the text includes a detailed study about panamanian "economy with enclaves" and the problem of economic, social and even political desintegration. An interpretation of panamanian crisis since the torrijos years is proposed, as well as a debate about economic and social contradictions of torrijismo, another one about the struggle between us and japan for the canal during the 80's, and the last one about us invasion in 1989 and its consecuencies for the panamanian society
Godfroy, Cécile. "Les spécificités du secteur informel en Amérique latine." Bordeaux 4, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997BOR40012.
Full textLatin america is characterised by an old contact with the occident, associated with a intense and long process of colonization that set up social, economic, political and cultural structures, essentially dualistic and traditionnal. These socioeconomic structures maintain the inequalities despite of the developpment efforts, inequalities less important that is could be thanks to the informal sector created by and for excluded people. This sector is essential for the latin american economy not only at the employment and income levels but also for the products and services created and distributed. Regarding the many ideological theories, informal activities in latin america have different fonctions. Nevertheless, and in spite of the various characteristics and the developpment processes heterogeneity, it's possible to demonstrate that if the continent is living a mutation more than a rupture since the beginning of the eighties, it's thanks to the developpment of informal activities. In fact, informal activities are playing a main part in the equilibrium of the urban centers. They are belonging to the developpment dynamic, constantly adapting themselves to their environment and satisfying local needs "forgotten" by the modern, rational and technical economy and society. Informal activities are showing a great capacity of innovation and adaptation in front of the socioeconomic inequalities. Analysing latin american informal activities shows that they are bringing their own solution in front of the structural and conjectural characteristics of the continent, following their own rationality and needs. As a result of this, if latin american governments really want to implement an equal developpment process, informal activities must be promoted, keeping their own specificities

Full textThis thesis deals with an analysis of causes and consequences of child labour. In a first part, the main microeconomic determinants of child labour supply – the weakness of returns to education, the weakness of parental resources linked with no access to credit market, the weakness of parental altruism – are introduced in a dynastic model. In the second part, some national Latin American household surveys (Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela) are used to confront the theory with the facts. Finally, the analysis of child labour is led on a macroeconomic level and some public policy implications are deducted. It is shown that a public intervention may lead the economy on a more equal and better for poor children growth path
