Abstract:

The Paleoproterozoic Hurwitz Group of the western Churchill Province is an erosional remnant of an areally extensive, predominantly shallow-water intracratonic basin comprised of four major sequences. Sequence 2, forming the central part of the stratigraphy, contains the Ameto Formation, a sequence of pillowed and massive basaltic rocks and associated gabbro sills termed the Happotiyik Member that are interlayered with subordinate deep-water mudstones, siltstones, and diamictites. Whole-rock geochemical data for the mafic rocks reveals a suite of homogeneous tholeiitic basalts with affinities to both continental and volcanic-arc tholeiites. Compatible trace elements and large-ion lithophile elements exhibit scattered behavior, whereas all high field strength elements show a systematic increase with Zr. The rocks are large-ion lithophile and light rare-earth element enriched, and have parallel primitive mantle normalized extended trace element patterns with prominent negative Nb, Ta, and Ti anomalies. εNd(t=2200 Ma) values for the rocks range from 0.0 to +0.8. The data indicate that the parental magmas were derived from a heterogeneous, predominantly depleted mantle source that included a minor metasomatically enriched component. Contamination by Neoarchean, juvenile silicic upper crust during ascent was minimal. We envisage that the rocks of the Happotiyik Member were generated from sub-continental lithospheric mantle that was stabilized immediately after formation of the ca. 2680 Ma, Neoarchean Central Hearne sub-domain. This enrichment occurred via metasomatic infiltration of subduction-derived fluids and melts into the overlying lithosphere. A wide range of Paleoproterozoic intra-continental mafic rocks in the western Churchill Province exhibit comparable geochemical and isotopic signatures that suggest an origin in the lithospheric mantle. These observations imply that the Hearne sub-continental lithospheric mantle has endured since the Neoarchean and likely persists today.

140 Background: The quality of care transfers is known to influence clinical outcomes. In an inpt onc setting at a major tertiary care referral center, patient (pt) adm originate from many different areas and times. A detailed evaluation of onc adm by source of transfer, admission time, and provider type, may identify opportunities to improve inpt clinical outcomes. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all adm to the inpt solid tumor onc service from July - December 2014 from CCF regional hospital emergency departments (ED), outside hospital (OSH) ED, OSH inpt services, and CCF outpt clinics. Pts were excluded if the adm was planned or if admitted from the CCF Main Campus ED. Data collected included pt and encounter characteristics and provider type (house-staff or nocturnal hospitalist). Clinical outcomes, including activation of the adult medical emergency team (AMET), ICU transfers, length of stay (LOS), and in-hospital mortality were compared using chi-squared test; ECOG PS and LOS with the Kruskal-Wallis tests and Wilcoxon rank sum test. Results: A total of 413 unique pt admissions were reviewed. 213 were included after exclusion criteria were applied. The probability of AMET activation, mortality, and LOS differed by origin of transfer. Pts admitted from CCF regional EDs had the lowest median LOS and no deaths. OSH int transfers demonstrated significantly higher mortality vs other origins of transfer. Pts whose first orders were placed after 5pm had no significant differences in AMET activation, ICU transfers, LOS, or mortality vs daytime adm. There were no differences in adverse outcomes by the type of admitting provider. Conclusions: Onc inpts transferred from an outside healthcare setting were at highest risk for adverse outcomes (AMETs, increased LOS, and mortality) include those originating from OSH inpt services. Process and communication interventions focused on transfers from outside inpt facilities may improve safety and outcomes in this population. [Table: see text]

Vilniaus universitetas teikė didelę reikšmę praktiniam rankų darbo bei amatų įgūdžių mokymui Vilniaus mokymo apygardos mokymo įstaigose. Reakcinio pobūdžio 1828 m. mokyklų nuostatai sudarė sąlygas mokyti amato, bet, politinių įvykių įtakoje, nuslopinus 1830 – 1831 m. sukilimą, Lietuvoje buvo įgyvendinama tik reakcinė nuostatų pusė. Rankų darbui ir amatui, specialiam šių dalykų mokymui nebuvo teikiama pakankamai reikšmės. Todėl XIX a. viduryje Vilniaus mokymo apygardos gubernijose tik 21 liaudies mokykloje buvo mokoma amatų. Ekonomikos raida šalyje, ypač šešiasdešimtaisiais XIX a. metais, kai Rusijos eksportas ir importas judėjo pagrindinai lietuviškų žemių sausuma ir upėmis, geležinkelių ir kelių statyba pareikalavo didesnio skaičiaus darbininkų, turinčių amato darbinių įgūdžių. Kadangi nebuvo amatų mokyklų, tokių darbininkų kadrus papildydavo kaimų ir miestų meistrų, amatininkų apmokyti asmenys bei asmenys, amato mokęsi iš tėvų, kariuomenėje ar savarankiškai. Valstybinio turto gubernijos žinybos stengėsi pritvirtinti našlaičius ir berniukus iš skurdžių šeimų prie amatininkų mokytis amato. Amatininkas imdavosi mokyti ir išlaikyti berniuką veltui su sąlyga, kad mokinys mokysis pas jį nustatytą laiką. Tokiu būdu įvairių amatų mokėsi ganėtinai didelis skaičius berniukų, pvz., Vilniaus gubernijoje 1853 m. – 357. Dėl ilgos karinės tarnybos dauguma grįžusiųjų iš jos nebuvo darbingi ir negalėjo įsijungti į ūkinę veiklą. Be to, įgyti įgūdžiai nepasižymėjo įvairove. Amatininkų poreikis sudarė jiems įmanomas gyvenimo sąlygas. Bežemių ir mažažemių valstiečių vaikų nukreipimas į amatus iš dalies pasitarnavo ir sprendžiant socialines problemas. Tam pasitarnavo ir 1853 m. amatininkų nuostatai. Mokytis amatų savo kūriniuose „Palangos Juzė“ ir „Paaugusių žmonių knygelė“????? skatino XIX vidurio lietuvių rašytojas M. Valančius. Jis teigė, kad paauglius mokytis amato reikia atiduoti savo darbą žinančiam meistrui. O parinkti amatą reikia atsižvelgiant į paauglio polinkius. Pradėjo augti interesas amato mokymuisi. Individualus amato mokymas meistro dirbtuvėse jau nebetenkino norinčių išmokti amato. Šalies ekonominė raida reikalavo susieti praktinių įgūdžių įgijimą su teoriniu paruošimu.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional quality, phenolic compounds, fatty acid and antioxidant activity in vitro as well as a toxicological screening of A. muricata seed oil in vivo. The chemical composition and quantification of phenolic compounds were determined by the Adolfo Lutz Institute normative. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH, FRAP and ABTS methods. The oil was extracted by chloroform/ methanol and precipitated crude (AmPtO) and supernatant oils (AmSO) were obtained. The fatty acid profile was evaluated by gas chromatography and total compounds by HPLC-DAD. BALB/C mice received AmPtO and AmSO (0.5 and 1.0mL·Kg-1) for 14 days. Toxicity parameters were assessed. The major fatty acids in the oil were oleic (39.2%) and linoleic (33%). HPLC-DAD suggested the presence of acetogenins (annonacin: 595 [M-H]-), with a greater presence in AmPtO. The AmPtO group showed toxicity, which may be related to the acetogenin content in AmPtO. The AmSO group showed no toxicity and this oil has potential for food or medicinal use.

ResumoA temática da reprodução suscitou, desde sempre, muito interesse por parte de diversos estudiosos. Desde a Antiguidade, com Aristóteles (384 – 322 a.C.) e Hipócrates (460 – 377 a.C.), entre outros, passando pela Idade Média, diversos autores defenderam a teoria das duas sementes, na qual o feto era o resultado da mistura de duas sementes, uma masculina e outra feminina. No Renascimento surgiram importantes descobertas para as quais foi inegável o contributo do médico judeu português Amato Lusitano. Neste estudo pretendemos apresentar alguns casos de esterilidade e disfunção sexual e as sugestões de tratamentos, dando especial atenção à técnica inovadora de inseminação artificial. Recorremos à análise de conteúdo da obra de Amato Lusitano, As Centúrias para a recolha de dados. Verificámos que Amato descreveu, na sua obra As Centúrias, alguns casos de esterilidade, disfunção sexual e inseminação artificial, o que terá contribuído para o desenvolvimento do conhecimento sobre estas temáticas, no séc. XVI. Palavras-chave: Amato Lusitano, Centúrias, disfusão sexual, inseminação artificial, reprodução.Abstract The theme of reproduction has always attracted a lot of interest from various scholars. From Antiquity to Aristotle (384 - 322 BC) and Hippocrates (460 - 377 BC), among others, going through the Middle Ages, several authors defended the theory of two seeds, in which the fetus was the result of mixing two seeds, one male and one female. In the Renaissance important discoveries emerged for which the contribution of the Portuguese Jewish doctor Amato Lusitano was undeniable. In this study we intend to present some cases of sterility and sexual dysfunction and the suggestions of treatments, paying special attention to the innovative technique of artificial insemination. We used the content analysis of the work of Amato. Lusitano, The Centuries for data collection. We found that Amato described, in his book The Centuries, some cases of sterility, sexual dysfunction and artificial insemination, which contributed to the development of knowledge about this subject in the 16th century. Background:Physical activity guidelines for youth and adults include recommendations for moderate intensity activity to attain health benefits. Indirect calorimetry studies have consistently reported a 100 ste·min−1 threshold for moderate intensity walking in adults. No indirect calorimetry studies have investigated step-rate thresholds in children and therefore the primary purpose of the study was to determine preliminary step-rate thresholds for moderate physical activity walking in children.Methods:Oxygen consumption was measured at rest and used to determine 3 and 4 age-adjusted metabolic equivalents (A-AMETs) for 4 treadmill trials (self-selected, 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 MPH). Two trained observers simultaneously counted children’s steps during each walking trial. Step-rate thresholds associated with moderate-intensity activity, defined as 3 and 4 A-AMETs, were determined using hierarchical linear modeling.Results:Regression analysis determined an overall step rate of 112 and 134 step·min-1 for 3 and 4 A-AMETs respectively. Body mass index (BMI) weight status and age were positively related to A-AMETs.Conclusions:We suggest age and BMI weight status specific recommendations that range from a low of 100 step·min-1 threshold (3 A-AMETs) for overweight/obese 11- to 12-year-olds to a high of 140 step·min-1 threshold (4 A-AMETs) for healthy weight 9- to 10-year-old children.

Abstract Recent detections of gravitational wave signals and neutrinos from gamma-ray sources have ushered in the era of multi-messenger astronomy, while highlighting the importance of gamma-ray observations for this emerging field. AMEGO-X, the All-sky Medium Energy Gamma-Ray Observatory eXplorer, is an MeV gamma-ray instrument proposed to the 2021 call for medium-sized explorer missions. AMEGO-X will survey the sky in the energy range from 100 keV to 1 GeV with unprecedented sensitivity, as well as detecting and localizing transient events such as gamma-ray bursts and magnetar activity down to 25 keV. AMEGO-X will detect gamma-ray photons both via Compton interactions and pair production processes, bridging the “sensitivity gap” between hard X-rays and high-energy gamma rays. AMEGO-X will provide important contributions to multi-messenger science and time-domain gamma-ray astronomy, studying e.g. high-redshift blazars, which are probable sources of astrophysical neutrinos, and gamma-ray bursts. I will present an overview of the instrument and anticipated science program.

Abstract:

Abstract AMEGO-X, the All-sky Medium Energy Gamma-ray Observatory eXplorer, is a proposed instrument designed to bridge the so-called “MeV gap” by surveying the sky with unprecedented sensitivity from ∼100 keV to about 1 GeV. This energy band is of key importance for multimessenger and multiwavelength studies but it is nevertheless currently underexplored. AMEGO-X addresses this situation by proposing a design capable of detecting and imaging gamma rays via both Compton interactions and pair production processes. However, some of the objects that AMEGO-X will study, such as gamma-ray bursts and magnetars, extend to energies below ∼100 keV where the dominant interaction becomes photoelectric absorption. These events deposit their energy in a single pixel of the detector. In this work we show how the ∼3500 cm2 effective area of the AMEGO-X tracker to events between ∼25 and ∼100 keV will be utilized to significantly improve its sensitivity and expand the energy range for transient phenomena. Although imaging is not possible for single-site events, we show how we will localize a transient source in the sky using their aggregate signal to within a few degrees. This technique will more than double the number of cosmological gamma-ray bursts seen by AMEGO-X, allow us to detect and resolve the pulsating tails of extragalactic magnetar giant flares, and increase the number of detected less-energetic magnetar bursts—some possibly associated with fast radio bursts. Overall, single-site events will increase the sensitive energy range, expand the science program, and promptly alert the community of fainter transient events.

Objective.Insights into the pathogenesis of inflammatory myopathies have led to new diagnostic methods. The aims of our study were (1) to evaluate the consequences of using the classification of Amato/European Neuromuscular Centre Workshop (ENMC) compared to that of Bohan and Peter; and (2) to evaluate any diagnostic benefit in using an extended pathological investigation.Methods.From a consecutive retrospective database, we evaluated 99 patients for classification. Patients with inclusion body myositis (IBM) were classified according to Griggs,et al. In addition to routine stainings and immunohistochemistry, a multilevel serial sectioning procedure was performed on paraffin-embedded material, to identify scarce pathological findings.Results.Classification according to Bohan and Peter could be performed for 83 of the 99 patients, whereas only 60 patients met the Amato/ENMC criteria, the latter resulting in the following diagnostic groups: IBM (n = 18), nonspecific myositis (n = 14), polymyositis (n = 12), dermatomyositis (n = 10), dermatomyositis sine dermatitis (n = 5), and immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (n = 1). Most of the Amato/ENMC diagnostic groups harbored patients from several of the Bohan and Peter groups, which included a substantial group lacking proximal muscle weakness. The serial sectioning procedure was essential for classification of 9 patients (15%), and led to a more specific diagnosis for 13 patients (22%) according to Amato/ENMC.Conclusion.The classification of Amato/ENMC was more restrictive, forming groups based on clinical criteria and specified myopathological findings, which clearly differed from the groups of the Bohan and Peter classification. An extended pathological investigation increased the diagnostic yield of a muscle biopsy and highlights the quantity and specificity of certain pathological findings.

Whilst the property market shows cyclical behaviours, opinions of value based on income approaches assume that there is stable or perpetually growing (or decreasing) income without considering the effects of the property market cycle on leasing contracts. The paper therefore focuses on the application of a valuation method for income producing properties which have a value that is affected by the upturns and downturns of property market cycles. Continuing from the previous works in this area (d¡¦Amato, 2003, d¡¦Amato, 2013; d¡¦Amato, 2015) the income approach method here is applied to the office market in four areas of London. In applying this valuation method, property valuation and time series analysis are integrated. The work provides a general introduction on cyclical capitalization as another family of valuation methodologies based on the income approach and then an application of cyclical capitalization to areas of London which highlight their strength and weakness.

Abstract:

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study if actively managed exchange-traded funds (AMETFs) and actively managed mutual funds (AMMFs) are complements or substitutes. It also tests if there are tax or liquidity clientele effects. Design/methodology/approach The study investigates the relation between individual AMMF flows and aggregate AMETF flows as well as individual AMETF flows and aggregate AMMF flows. A 2013 tax change is used to analyze if a tax clientele effect exists between the AMETF and AMMF markets. The authors use differences in investor groups for institutional vs retail fund share classes to test for liquidity clientele effects. Findings The authors find that equity and mixed AMETFs and AMMFs are substitutes, although not perfect substitutes. Taxation-related differences between the two products create a clientele effect for fixed income and mixed funds where tax-sensitive investors are more likely to substitute AMETFs for AMMFs surrounding tax increases. There is weak evidence that institutional investors may prefer AMETFs more than retail investors because of their enhanced liquidity. Originality/value This is the first study to investigate the flow relation between AMETFs and AMMFs. Šis itin sudėtingas ir tobulas įrišimo būdas, naudojamas visame pasaulyje, neretai laikomas knygrišystės amato etalonu ir siejamas tik su profesionaliąja knygrišyste bei bibliofilinę vertę turinčiais leidiniais. Nepaisant to, Lietuvoje jis nėra tyrinėtas. Ankstyviausi rasti (XIX a.) rašytiniai šaltiniai jį mini gana kukliai ir miglotai, vėlesniuose (tarpukario Lietuvos laikotarpio) šaltiniuose jau galime aptikti išsamesnių jo aprašymų, pateiktų dviejų to meto knygrišių, o šiandienos šaltiniai visai apie tai tyli. Straipsnyje gretinamos ir lyginamos knygrišystės amato tendencijos pasaulyje ir Lietuvoje, analizuojama užsienio mokyklų (daugiausia estų) įtaka šiuolaikinei Lietuvos knygrišystei, pagal technologijas ir uždavinius, santykį su tradicija ir knygos turiniu išskiriamos kelios šiuolaikinės rankų darbo knygrišystės kryptys. Abstract. Meridional energy transport (MET), both in the atmosphere (AMET) and ocean (OMET), has significant impact on the climate in the Arctic. In this study, we quantify AMET and OMET at subpolar latitudes from six reanalysis data sets. We investigate the differences between the data sets and we check the coherence between MET and the Arctic climate variability at interannual timescales. The results indicate that, although the mean transport in all data sets agrees well, the spatial distributions and temporal variations of AMET and OMET differ substantially among the reanalysis data sets. For the ocean, only after 2007, the low-frequency signals in all reanalysis products agree well. A further comparison with observed heat transport at 26.5∘ N and the subpolar Atlantic, and a high-resolution ocean model hindcast confirms that the OMET estimated from the reanalysis data sets are consistent with the observations. For the atmosphere, the differences between ERA-Interim and the Japanese 55-year Reanalysis (JRA-55) are small, while the Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications version 2 (MERRA-2) differs from them. An extended analysis of linkages between Arctic climate variability and AMET shows that atmospheric reanalyses differ substantially from each other. Among the chosen atmospheric products, ERA-Interim and JRA-55 results are most consistent with those from coupled climate models. For the ocean, the Ocean Reanalysis System 4 (ORAS4) and Simple Ocean Data Assimilation version 3 (SODA3) agree well on the relation between OMET and sea ice concentration (SIC), while the GLobal Ocean reanalyses and Simulations version 3 (GLORYS2V3) deviates from those data sets. The regressions of multiple fields in the Arctic on both AMET and OMET suggest that the Arctic climate is sensitive to changes of meridional energy transport at subpolar latitudes in winter. Given the good agreement on the diagnostics among assessed reanalysis products, our study suggests that the reanalysis products are useful for the evaluation of energy transport. However, assessments of products with the AMET and OMET estimated from reanalysis data sets beyond interannual timescales should be conducted with great care and the robustness of results should be evaluated through intercomparison, especially when studying variability and interactions between the Arctic and midlatitudes.

Silicon germanium nanostructures (SiGe NSs) have acquired today a prominent role in several cutting-edge research topics in nanoscience, thanks to the most recent advances in synthesis, processing and characterization [1-4]. The physical properties of such nanosystems are strictly related not solely to the size of the system (as in pure Si and Ge NSs), but also to the relative composition of Si and Ge atoms as well as to the geometry of Si/Ge interface. The investigation of these materials with experimental techniques is, however, complicated by several factors not always well controlled which can hide the right comprehension of the fundamental properties. In this context first principles theoretical modeling is extraordinarily important as it can complement or augment experimental observations. Here, I will present an overview of the ab initio computational modeling of various types of SiGe nanosystems (nanowires [5], nanodots [6] and slabs [7-8]). I will outline how by bringing together two similar elements –Si and Ge, neighbors in the periodic table–, a broad variety of new chemical and physical properties emerge, stimulating both fundamental and application-driven research in nanoscience. Indeed, I will show that substituting some of the atoms of a pure Si NS with Ge in configurations of distinct compositions and dimensionalities, can strongly affect some fundamental properties such as band gap, band offsets, work function and impurity doping levels. Por muito tempo, os ranchos carnavalescos do Rio de Janeiro desfilaram pelas ruas da cidade misturados com outros agrupamentos festivos (como cordões, blocos e outras expressões) sem uma definição precisa. O rancho Ameno Resedá foi inovador pela introdução de novos temas, assim como pelo cuidado extremado com a parte visual dos desfiles. Sendo assim, a análise de dois desenhos – Lua e Estrela – criados pelo caricaturista Amaro Amaral para o Ameno Resedá, em 1912, pode nos ajudar a compreender suas inspirações, tendo como base as representações femininas da época. Ademais, ao estudarmos esses exemplos, acabamos por entender como foi parte do processo da criação de figurinos, desenvolvidos especificamente para o Carnaval carioca em uma época na qual a função do figurinista ainda era embrionária.

Faktor alam, faktor manusia maupun faktor kegagalan sistem dapat menjadi faktor langsung maupun tidak langsung terhadap terjadinya kecelakaan penerbangan. Pembentukan budaya keselamatan (safety culture) dan kepedulian keselamatan (safety awareness) terhadap penerbangan pada organisasi akan dapat memberikan kontribusi positif pada terciptanya keselamatan penerbangan. Dan hal tersebut tidak terlepas dari keberhasilan penerapan Safety Management System pada organisasi ataupun entitas yang terkait dengan industri penerbangan. Maksud dan tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk dapat menjelaskan sejauh mana Safety Management System telah diterapkan pada AMTO 147 D-13 Prodi TPPU Politeknik Penerbangan Makassar serta untuk dapat mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor atau kendala yang dapat menghambat upaya penerapannya. Dengan menggunakan Gap analisis, dilakukan pembandingan terhadap indikator-indikator capaian keberhasilan SMS pada kondisi aktual dan ideal. Berdasarkan hasil penyajian data diketahui bahwa terjadi kegagalan yang cukup signifikan terhadap indikator-indikator capaian SMS yang tertera pada manual SMS AMTO 147 D-13 Prodi TPPU Politeknik Penerbangan Makassar. Pemahaman dan kepedulian pada tingkat yang berbeda-beda terkait dengan penerapan SMS pada organisasi di level manajemen hingga pelaksana merupakan kontribusi terbesar dari belum maksimalnya SMS dapat diterapkan.

Abstract:

In flat cold rolling of steels, emulsions of rolling oil and water are normally used to cool and lubricate, i.e. up to 2.5 % oil is emulsified in water and sprayed on work rolls and sheet. In this article it is shown how the Henkel AG and ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt GmbH developed and industrialized successfully the thin film lubrication (TFL) in front of stand one of the AMEKO. With this device, pure rolling oil is sprayed onto the work rolls. This resulted in a rolling force decrease of approx. 4.5 % in the stand and a higher operating life of the work rolls. Furthermore, the FlexMix system of the Henkel AG is presented. Therewith it shall be possible to react flexibly on the lubrication conditions in the roll gap. Using two spray bars emulsion with higher concentration is sprayed onto the strip. Trial runs were carried out in front of rolling stand number two of the AMEKO. A rolling force reduction in the stand of up to 9.7 % was seen. Moreover up to 7.9 % of less current could be observed on the motors of this stand. The article illustrates the theoretical and practical basics on both developments including effects on the production of the AMEKO. Further an outlook is given of how future lubrication techniques can optimize the production of flat steel cold rolling mills.

PMMA/nanoCu antibacterial plastic was prepared by in situ polymerization using MMA as monomer, BPO as initiator and surface treated nanoCu as antibacterial agent. AMEO was used for surface treatment of nanoCu. ATR-FTIR spectra showed that AMEO successfully reacted on the surface of nanoCu. SEM spectra showed that nanoCu dispersed evenly in the PMMA/nanoCu composite. Antibacterial test results showed that the composite had a strong antibacterial effect on Escherichia coli, and the antibacterial rate reached more than 99%. Therefore, the PMMA/nanoCu composite can be used in various fields of antibacterial plastic products.
