Full textThis research is about student's alcohol expectancies. Alcohol expectancies mean all the expectations toward alcohol consumption that guide the behavior. A analysis concerning the alcohol expectancies characterizing the French student was realised. After that we decided to create a questionnaire : the Alcohol Expectancies Profile. This research is presenting precisely the different stages in elaboration and the validation of the questionnaire. In order to identify the role played by the alcohol expectancies in consumption, we have confronted this variable with a set of other variables that also influence consumption (e. G. Alcohol consumption of the parents, attitude). Finally, we present an experimental protocol usable in a preventive action with young people in the topic of alcohol expectancies. This action uses a protocol in a double-blind-situation with the aim of confronting and profane knowledge about the alcohol placebo effect and changing the alcohol consumption

Full textThis sociology research project aims to shed light on the aspirations of the Atikamekw youth of Opitciwan; one of the three poverty struck Atikamekw communities in the Northern Saint-Maurice region of Québec, Canada. Its further aim is to discover the attitude of Atikamekw youth towards school education and employment. First, a brief portrait will be painted of the socio-economical, historical and political situation of the community. Then, the National Household Survey of 2011 statistics will be examined to define the socio-economical conditions of the community by paying a particular attention to the relationship between schooling, employment and income. This quantitative analysis will allow us to discover the dynamic of these three variables within the community of Opitciwan. Secondly, semi-structured interviews will be carried out with Opitciwan’s youth to identify their aspirations and motives. Our interview strategy will examine the reasoning of the participants’ aspirations such as the impressions they have of their possible future and how they conceive the achievement of their ambitions. Four socio-types will be created from this qualitative analysis to categorise the results and help facilitate their interpretation. The resulting socio-types are: the ambitious, the conscious-realistic, the insecure and the passive type. Finally, the quantitative and qualitative analysis will be compared. This will allow us to identify and expose the similarities and differences between the realities of the community and the values of its youth. This study will, most importantly, generate a better understanding of the attitude of Atikamekw youth towards education and employment. It will also allow us to discover the dynamic between education, employment and income in the community and aid in identifying Opitciwans’ socio-economic needs.

Full textThis thesis is based on the observation of the lack of physical activity (PA) in adolescents: approximately 80% of this age group does not reach the recommended daily 60 minutes. This situation and its important health consequences, has a greater impact on the most vulnerable young people, such as obese adolescents and those from socioeconomically disadvantaged families. Two studies aiming at promoting PA to these audiences were conducted: objective measures of PA before, during and after interventions were performed in two different PA program settings. The goal of the first study was to test the feasibility and the impact of a PA program for adolescents from disadvantaged backgrounds. For each adolescent, one of their parents was also involved. Thus, 18 parents and 22 adolescents participated in the “1 parent - 1 adolescent” program. Two hours of PA twice a week during eleven weeks were proposed for each of the participating groups. PA levels and several anthropometric, physiological and psychological parameters were collected. All participants followed the eleven weeks of intervention. The analyzes showed that the daily 60-min AP threshold was reached only during the program for adolescents. The daily 30 min for parents was reached at all measurements times of. Additional analyzes revealed 1) that program efficacy on PA level was modulated by age for adolescents and by attendance rate for parents, 2) a decreased of amotivation for the most assiduous adolescents, and 3) an increase in well-being for adolescents. The results of this pilot study highlighted the feasibility and effectiveness of such a program, which could now be deployed in the form of a randomized trial including a control group. The goal of the second study was to test the effects of 10-month multidisciplinary residential weight reduction program on body mass index (BMI) and PA levels of obese adolescents (21 boys and 41 girls aged 14 years with a BMI of 33 kg / m²). The modulating role of parental climate and motivation of the adolescent on the effectiveness of the care was evaluated. The results indicated a positive effect of the program with a decrease in BMI and an increase in PA during the course of treatment and four months after. With a curvilinear shape, the weight loss was strong at the beginning of the cure and then stabilized at the end. The parental climate seemed to play a facilitating role in this improvement, especially by the father, when he was perceived as being warmer, more involved and more supportive of autonomy. These PA promotion programs generate promising results on adolescent PA levels. However, the study of the determinants of the maintenance of changes during interventions must be continued

Full textSecond dialect acquisition (SDA) may be defined as the process by which a geographically mobile individual adapts their linguistic practices to those in use intheir new environment, without learning a new language per se. Typically, this acquisition occurs at the phonetic level, as reflected in the intuitive idea that people who move away “change their accent”. Scientific accounts of SDA have only recently increased in number, as previous linguistic work has mostly focused on the practices of sedentary speakers. At the same time, pronunciation has long been thought to be settled from adolescence on. SDA is a widespread phenomenon given the increasing geographic mobility of individuals, although its phonetic outcomes are especially heterogeneous. Studies addressing this issue highlight the extensive array of factors that might explain why results vary across individuals and linguistic contexts. Internal factors such as the regularity of the rules that need to be learned, or external like the speakers’ integration to their new environment or concern to remain faithful to their origin, have been put forward. Depending on the theoretical perspective, SDA has been interpreted as an automatism, or as a process mediated by various aspects of the communication situation, the relationship between the speaker and their interlocutor, the frequency and recency of the phonetic properties of ambient speech, etc. This contribution is a sociophonetic study of SDA in Quebec. More precisely, 33 native speakers of Quebec French aged 18 to 22 were recruited upon enrollment in an undergraduate program at Université Laval. Eighteen of them were mobile speakers : they had just moved in Quebec City in order to start university, but were from somewhere else in the province. Born and raised in Quebec City, the 15 remaining participants were sedentary. On recruitment (T1), the speakers were recorded in a sound-attenuated booth while reading target words in isolation or inserted in carrier sentences. These target words featured all of the oral vowels of Quebec French in stressed syllable. The vowels were analyzed acoustically : their duration and the frequency and dynamics of their first three formants (F1, F2 and F3) were measured. The participants also completed questionnaires assessing their social integration, belonging to the socio-psychological phase of emerging adulthood and, for the mobiles only, faithfulness to their origin. The experiment was replicated a year later (T2). Results show that fine-grained acoustic changes occurred over time. The vowels moved closer to each other in the F1/F2plane. Frequency of F3 and formant dynamics decreased in some vowels. A reduction of the articulatory movements thus seems to have occurred. However, these changes took viplace in all speakers, whether they be mobile or sedentary. Neither of the other external factors taken into account (integration, emerging adulthood, faithfulness) could explain the changes. Therefore, we hypothesized that the way the participants perceived the experiment had evolved over time. As for the lack of more substantial phonetic shifts in mobile speakers, it could be explained by the short time span between the two experiments, since the first changes taking place during SDA do not usually happen at the phonetic level. Another possibility is that there are not enough dialectal features in Quebec City for the mobile speakers to change systematically, whereas, furthermore, the local population might not even be the main linguistic influence of university students. The mobile participants nonetheless proved aware of differences between their own speech and that of their new environment, suggesting that enhanced linguistic sensitivity may play a role in phonetic change. Further progress in understanding the link between speech perception and production mayalsoshed light on the mechanisms underlying the first stages of SDA. Our results add to those from a growing body of studies evidencing that a certain phonetic flexibility is maintained throughout adulthood.

Full textThe thesis questions the methods of organizing the devices for alternating training for insertion. Created forty years ago, in a context of economic crisis, this devices represent today a necessary step, especially for the young un-graduated. By studying the underlying logic of public insertion policies, the impact of the type of production "serviciel" on the activity of the employees and the constitutive pedagogy of these formations, the thesis reveals the tensions between the issues brought by different stakeholders and their effects on the learning process and insertion of youth. Starting from these aspects, substantiated in the first part, we have to see what is the position of the trainee activity carried in the company within these formations. The field survey allows, firstly, comprehending the diversity and the complexity of these work situations to which the trainees are daily confronted. It shows how the manage to mobilize or not, in this situations, the appropriate theoretical knowledge and the knowledge previously forged, to control their emotions, to invest the teachings drawn from their own history to reprocess the values held by the work place, to meet the requirements of the task and the expectations of the service to be performed. Afterwards, the empirical survey focuses specifically on the practices of the trainers upon the reflective moments dedicated to feedback. Caught in a pincer between urgency, economic efficiency criteria, the trainers do not really involve the trainees in an analysis of the lived experience. Therefore, many lessons rest in the shadow, resting undervalued in the insertion process

Full textThe advent of technology in neonatal care units has increased the survival rate of premature infants. However, there is still room to better understand the deleterious impacts of prematurity on the brain and cognition over lifespan, including the early adulthood that has poorly been studied to date. This thesis tested the mechanism of interhemispheric inhibition by the ipsilateral silent period (iSP) (reflecting the integrity of callosal function) and intracortical inhibition (ICI reflecting synaptic organization for planning the action) along with the cognitive function in young adults born prematurely (PT). A group of young adults born prematurely (PT, ≤ 33 weeks gestation) were compared to a group of young adults born at term (Term> 37 weeks of gestation, matched for age and education). iSP and ICI were tested with transcranial magnetic stimulation of the primary motor cortex of hand. As compared to the term group, the study 1 showed that PT had fewer occurrences of iSP (p < 0.0001), longer iSP latency (interhemispheric transfer, p=0.004) and shorter iSP duration (p < 0.0001). In study 2, less excitability in the nondominant hemisphere (p=0.001), and less ICI (37.5% in PT group vs. 100% in terms) was observed. This suboptimal regulation between hemispheres and intracortical motor function was parallelled by difficulties to sustain attention in PT as assessed by neuropsychological testing in the 3rd study. This thesis suggests that brain function known to be impaired in PT children and adolescents remained suboptimal at early adulthood and may explain some minor cognitive impairments detected. These brain indicators of a long-term influence of prematurity should be used earlier to test the efficacity of rehab programs on modules recognized to be specifically impaired in adulthood.

Full textMany researchers of different theoretical approaches tried to evaluate the influence of the sibling bond on the development of the individual without succeeding in setting up a theory. Present research aims to work out an instrument intended to identify various dimensions constitutive of the sibling representations of the young adults, and to evaluate the degree of concordance between the representations of the siblings. For that, several questionnaires supposed to measure these various dimensions were used on sixty-six dyads of siblings. This research is, before-all, a contribution of the sibling representations domain : on the one hand, because it allowed a methodological progress from the validation of the questionnaires on a French population; and on the other hand, because it brought important qualifying statement in the knowledge of the sibling representations by the questioning of the analysis strategies of experienced authors
ASSOU, MOSTAFA. "Usages linguistiques chez une population de jeunes issus de l'immigration." Nice, 1998. http://www.theses.fr/1998NICE2016.
Full textAfter considering the relationships maintained between the migrant children here in france and both their mother tongue language and the + host's language ; (french in this case) i have come to the conclusion that there is an unbalanced bilingualism in the sense that use of the mother tongue language is very limited. This is despite that in most cases the latter seems to be (according to a self-rating scale procedure) well known by the majority of the instances forming the sample studied. This assumption, is being reinforced by a factoral analysis of correspondances that establishes various links between the attitudes hel toward the two languages: moroccan arabic and french, on the one hand and, on the other hand, the language proficiency and language use. The families that have been questioned in this study seem to manage a situation that i have qualified of being diglossic. French language being more favoured and highly recognized for its essential role in the scholastic success and the social promotion of children. As for the mother tongue language, it seems to be perceived as a means of unification with their population and their culture of origin. It is more importantly regarded and invested as an undeniable dimension representative of the identity of the group

Full textThis thesis proposes, after critical discussion of different theoretical models, a diagram of the cognitive representation of bilingualism. The study is carried out from the point of view of the simultaneous acquisition in a natural environment at an early age of French and German. This is followed by an account of the definitions of the consensual terminology and of the evolution of the intelligence of the child in relation to linguistic acquisition in general. The detailed analysis of the oral corpus of young children up to the age of 4;6 studies the situations of the communication of the bilingual child in order to explore the phenomenon of interference between the languages and that of alternation. The thesis ends with the observation of children’s acquisition of the different linguistic structures (phonology, semantics and vocabulary, morphosyntax) in the two languages and concludes by insisting on the validity of the early teaching of languages

Full textThe aim of this is to study the young adults' search for identity, bringing out the ill-being which results from it, as they can't see where they belong. This ill-being refers to narcissistic frailty, which is the modern form of subjectivity, ensnared by uncertainty and undifferenciation. But if this subjectivity is rooted in the history of the child - itself dominated by the impact of parental figures - it doesn't only reflect what has been lived. Indeed, the human being also lives in the social daily life, characterized by specific logics, which changes according to the demands - and crises - of capitalist mastery, logics which commands several domains : economic, political, ideological, socio-symbolical. Thus, the approach of narcissism is here intentionally multi-referential, in its search for interconnections between the social and the psychic world, the position non position in the social world and place for involvements counter-involvements of the subject being considered as a fundamental matrix-point of junction ("matrice-carrefour") and as one of the loci of the "interprocessual" knot

Full textParticular attention should be paid to young patients transplanted from the kidney, which have priority in France in the assignment of renal graft. The objectives of this thesis were 1) to study the dynamics of the hazard of graft failure by current age after transplantation in young people; 2) to carry out a systematic review of prediction models for renal graft failure at all ages; and (3) to develop and validate a prediction model for this young population. To achieve Objectives 1 and 3, we used data from the French national registries REIN and CRISTAL, which included all pediatric renal transplant patients. For Objective 1, a two-stage statistical method revealed an increase in the hazard of graft failure during adolescence. For Objective 2, a systematic review of articles published between 2005 and 2015 showed that no predictive tool for graft failure has been specifically proposed for pediatric patients, as well as no dynamic predictive model for any age. For Objective 3, we developed and validated using internal cross-validation a dynamic prediction model of graft failure for young transplanted patients, using a joint model with shared random effects. This model included standard baseline predictors at the 90th day after transplantation (characteristics of the recipient (sex, age at transplantation, pretrasplant dialysis duration, primary renal disease, nadir of eGFR at J90), the donor (age and type), and transplantation (duration of cold ischemia, number of HLA incompatibilities, donor/recipient cytomegalovirus (CMV) serology status). The model also included the trajectory of GFR estimated after transplantation, assuming that the hazard of graft failure depended on both the current value of eGFR and its current slope. Our results indicate that this model had good predictive performances (AUC at 5 years ranging from 0.75 to 0.86 according to the time at prediction after transplantation), which were much better than the standard Cox model accounting for baseline predictors only (5-year AUC variant from 0.56 to 0.62). This model which allows the prediction of graft failure to be updated at each clinical visit after transplantation based on all previous observed values of eGFR, should be validated on populations other than the French population. We believe that such a tool could ultimately be useful in the clinical follow-up of young kidney transplanted patients
