Abstract:
The H/D and 14N/15N vapor pressure isotope effects in liquid and solid ammonia have been measured at temperatures between 163 K and 243 K. The isotopic vapor pressure data have been fitted to T ln (P′P) = A/T- B for the liquid/liquid, liquid/solid and solid/solid ranges of temperature. The triple points are; 195.41 K (45.49 torr) for 14NH3, 198.96 K (48.35 torr) for 14ND3, and 195.58 K (48.83 torr) for 15NH3. The isotopic difference in the vapor pressures of NH3 and ND3 at temperatures between 195.41 K and 198.96 K is nearly independent of temperature within the present experimental uncertaint

This study evaluates a hybrid system combining zeolites as a sorption stage and a hollow fiber membrane contactor (HFMC) for ammonia (NH3) recovery from treated urban wastewater. Ion exchange with zeolites was selected as an advanced pretreatment and concentration step before the HFMC. The system was tested with wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluent (mainstream, 50 mg N-NH4/L) and anaerobic digestion centrates (sidestream, 600–800 mg N-NH4/L) from another WWTP. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) typically use anaerobic digestion (AD) to treat sludge, but ammonia produced during AD process returns to the headworks of WWTPs. The amount of ammonia in the liquid stream produced after dewatering the stabilized sludge, commonly referred to as dewatering sidestream, could contribute as high as 20% of the overall ammonia loading to WWTPs. Several sidestream treatment technologies are being developed not only to prevent additional ammonia inputs to WWTPs, but also to valorize ammonia for fertilizer production. AbstractIsomerization of m-, o-and p-xylenes in the presence of trimethylammonium hydrochloride-AlCl3 ionic liquid with different composition was studied. Ionic liquids with the following ammonium salt: AlCl3 molar ratios were used: 1∶2, 1∶1.5 and 1∶1.25. It was shown that isomerization of xylenes proceeds under mild conditions at temperatures from 60°C to 110°C. It was found that the activity and selectivity of the ionic liquids depends on their composition. The most effective catalyst was the ionic liquid with the ammonium salt: AlCl3 molar ratio equal to 1∶2.

Secondary zinc oxide (SZO), which comes from the zinc industry, is an important secondary resource of zinc and other valuable metals. In this study, the production feasibility and rationality of a cleaner zinc recovery process using SZO and a hydrometallurgical method were described. Zinc extraction is promoted by the addition of ammonium bicarbonate to a NH3–H2O system, and the maximum recovery of zinc could be close to 80% at the optimum leaching conditions of a stirring rate of 400 rpm, an ammonia/ammonium ratio of 7:3, a total ammonia concentration of 4 mol/L, and a liquid/solid ratio of 7

As a chemical absorption method, the new ammonia carbon capture technology can capture CO2. Adding ethanol to ammonia can reduce the escape of ammonia to a certain extent and increase the absorption rate of CO2. The dissolution and crystallization of ethanol can realize the crystallization of ammonium bicarbonate and generate solid products. The induction of the crystallization process is influenced by many parameters, such as solution temperature, supersaturation, and solvating precipitant content. Ammonium sulfate double salt crystals (ASDSCs) are a by-product formed during the electrolytic production of manganese. The long-term open-air stacking of ASDSCs leads to the manganese and ammonia nitrogen present inside leaching with rainwater, which seriously damages the ecological environment. To find a reasonable treatment method, we developed a pretreatment-membrane electrolysis method, which allowed for the recycling of ASDSCs stepwise. At the beginning, the ASDSCs were dissolved in water. The Mn2+ and Mg2+ present in the crystals were converted into MnCO3 and MgCO3 and recycled for the
