Dolz, i. Ferrer Enric. ""Siervo libre de amor" de Juan Rodríguez del Padrón: estudio y edición." Doctoral thesis, Universitat de València, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/9813.
Full textThis Doctoral Thesis is centred upon the edition, both critical and diplomatic, of Siervo libre de amor, the romance written by Juan Rodríguez del Padrón around 1440.The pertinence of such a task will be clear for anybody familiarised with the present state of studies and editions on this work. The unsolved problems of interpretation made it compulsory to try to define the text lexically and to gather as much information as possible in order to establish the text sintactically. The punctuation decisions to be made are far from simple, as the least variation induces grossly different meanings. The diplomatic edition was undertaken with a view to put these problems in the right direction, allowing the reader to decide which course would be best to take at every step. The same can be said of the glossary that accompanies the critical edition and the editorial apparatus through which the reader will be able to ascertain the different ways which editors have chosen when confronted with problems of readership. In that respect I must recognise that my edition goes on the conservative side. The editions are accompanied by a series of different papers, some more closely knit than others, on problems that stem from the very complexities of the text, beginning with the biography of the author, of which not much is really known. Among other aspects not usually dealt with by the critics, these papers deal with the symbolic world of representation, the links between history and romance, the use of geography, heraldry, medicine, etc. Probably more important is the chapter in which philosophy and theology are investigated to reveal a profoundly Franciscan penchant that pervades the whole novel and the dialectic relation that both parts of the novel, the biographical part and the romance proper, keep, enhancing the richness of reading and the complexities of interpretation.

Full textIn the present PhD I conduct a study and review of previous critical approaches to metrical aspects from the end of 19th century up to now. I also include a second chapter in which I reflect on the metrical assumptions and the different manuscripts and editions taken into account by the scholars in all the Mester de clerecía editions. The main chapter of this Dissertation focuses on the study of the cuaderna vía of the Libro de buen amor, particularly through an analysis of the usus scribendi of the work. I carry out a study on the usus scribendi of the each manuscript’s copyists and one of the possible archetype. Furthermore, I have compared the results of both. Therefore, my analysis is mainly focused on the use of certain linguistic units such copulative conjunction, definite article, possessive or the apocope. Although their use produces no substantial changes on the meaning of the work, they could change the metre of the poem. It could be suggested that the results of the present study demonstrate that the usus scribendi more similar to the archetype’s one was usus from G manuscript, which tends to show a more recurrent presence of the linguistic units analyzed in this piece of research. Moreover, I have designed three more chapters related to the study of the cuaderna vía in the Libro de buen amor: an analysis of the metric impact of the presence or absence of the above mentioned particles; a study of the results of the usus scribendi related to the different branches of the stemma of the Libro de buen amor; and a study of the vocalic contact in the work (synaloepha, hiatus and diphthong). All in all, based on the previous research I would like to emphasize that among other things, the present study adds a meaningful contribution to the study of the metric system in the Libro de buen amor, the usus scribendi and the cuaderna vía that may be insightful guideline for futures editions of the above mentioned work.

Full textThe object of this work is to research the poetical "truth" of the book of good love we know how important was the figura ethymologica in the medieval tradition. The plays it authorizes about the form of the names call upon an authenitc strategy of reading which has to permit to motivate the text "upside down" and to reach its disguised truth. Proof is given that it is the from that creates the matter. This onomastic and etymological research tries to find again the "semantic etymon" that assures the structural coherence of a book often qualified as confused and ambigouous. What is called ambiguity fills an essential fonction for the reader that deciphers the letter. It shows off itself in order to invite him to work and discover all the meanings of the text and to grpgramme a systematic exploration of its polysemic signifiants. The proper noums and surnames determine the characters of the text. Those designations open many directions of research that other signifiants, analogicaly united to the onomastic system and designated to the reader by proceedings of valorization will complete. Independently of the linearity of the letter, some words seem to convoque other ones to reconstruct the tructh of the book, made of the interlacing of those analogical subjacent networks. The quest toward love is doubled by a poetical quest, thanks to the essential analogy of love and writing that subtend the whole book

This study aims to understand the representations of italian Giovanni Rossi libertarian about relationships and marriage monogamous nuclear family in the late nineteenth century. Were used as sources, above all, his works released between the years 1891 and 1895, as well as letters addressed to friends and family and other writings published in newspapers of the time libertarian. Thus, form the papers of Giovanni Rossi, this paper discusses the discussions between anarchism, family, conjugalities and free love.

Full textWorking is such a normal and daily human activity in the Middle Ages that the medieval intellectuals thought it was not necessary to consider it. They preferred to think and to write about God, nobility and knighthood. So far oriented towards the south, Castile will affirm its christian identity all along the many Reconquista successes, drawing a peninsula widely in Castile kings’good hands. However, this concept is so important nowadays that we have to question how it was taking place in the medieval civilization. The question is about how work was approached as a concept through a socio-economical reality described by the historians. We shall crosscheck this reality with what authors at that time wrote : Siete Partidas, Libro de las confesiones, Libro de los Estados, Libro de Buen Amor. Lastly, we’ll consider the employed words designating the concept. Economical conditions didn’t consider work as a real value because wealth came first from earth and war. But the numerous words to designate it, labrar, obrar, sometimes trabajar, stand for it. It’s definitely what motivates our research, in spite of Jacques Le Goff’s warning : “Work is not a good subject for the Middle Ages”
