The physisorption of Kr on graphitic amorphous carbon (g-C) has been investigated using a statistical approach. The interaction energy calculation process (i) established a structural model of g-C and (ii) determined the adsorbate-adsorbate and the adsorbate-substrate interaction potentials on g-C. The structural model of g-C was divided into three regions. For the interaction potential between a Kr atom and a carbon atom the short and medium range order of g-C was described with a discrete medium model based on three ring clusters using ring statistics from Beeman's continuous random network

A new approach to the growth of MoSe2 thin films on epitaxial graphene on SiC(0001) by the use of modulated elemental reactants (MER) precursors has been reported. The synthesis applies a two-step process, where first an amorphous precursor is deposited on the substrate which self-assembles upon annealing. Films with a nominal thickness of about 1ML are successfully grown on epitaxial graphene monolayer as well as buffer layer samples. This means structuring the SiC surface to prevent graphene from having to be patterned using standard microelectronic processes.
