Abstract:
AbstractThis response by Donald Gelpi appreciates the accuracy of the reviewer's suggestion that the author's experience of charismatic prayer has very much conditioned both the author's written theology and his way of doing theol ogy. More particularly he acknowledges how it has conditioned his under standing of the role of the charisms in the shared faith of the Church, the centrality of the charisms in the practice and theology of the sacraments, and the role of the Spirit in the Paschal Mystery and in revealing the divinity of Jesus. Gelpi proceeds to discuss his notion of 'Christological knowing' as the unique knowledge of Jesus resulting from practical assimi lation to Him in the power of the Spirit—an experience that lies at the heart of Gelpi's Christology and is seen to provide it with its proper object of reflection, as Yong has correctly observed. Gelpi offers affirmation and fur ther elaboration on Yong's recognition of the importance of the philosophy of Charles Sanders Peirce in his own theological work. He joins Yong in the hope that the theological directions he has pursued and proposed might provide an experiential context for dialogue among the world religions.

Abstract:
Abstract: Christian thinkers are trying to seek a new way to relate to other religions, a more contextual way compared to the ways that have been constructed before. One of the new ways is a reconstruction of Christian theology of religions by focusing not on Ecclesiology or Christology, but on Pneumatology. This writing highlights the phenomenon of this pneumatological approach by exploring two views in the pneumatological approach to religions., namely, the views of Second Vatican Council and Amos Yong. This article will show that these pneumatological views to some extend underestimate the particularity of Jesus Christ. Keywords: Amos Yong, salvation, Holy Spirit, theology of religions, Vatican II. Kata-kata Kunci: Amos Yong, keselamatan, Roh Kudus, teologi agama-agama, Vatikan II.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract This article explores Amos Yong’s contributions to missiology through his concept of “pneumatological imagination” – that is, the hermeneutical embrace of Pentecost’s multivalent boundary-crossing potential. Two spheres of mission encounter that Yong has engaged with are examined: the spirit world, and the religions. In the Spirit’s encounter with spirit cosmologies, Yong looks for fruitful lines of continuity rather than radical severance, and develops a theology of “the powers” which connects the spirits to structural realities. In the Spirit’s encounter with the religions, Yong sets out avenues for discerning the Holy Spirit’s presence and activity in settings where Christ is not known or named. In this second, more controversial, area, Yong’s approach is critiqued for blurring the distinction between the Spirit’s sustaining and liberating activity. Concrete examples are suggested for how the Spirit might be seen as missionally active within non-Christian religions in ways that are more verifiably Christo-logical.

The author, who also draws from their wider writings, argues that while Kärkkäinen and Yong hail from Pentecostal backgrounds, their theological orientation is charismatic rather than Pentecostal; their approach is pneumatological rather than Pentecostal; and their methodology is ecumenical rather than Evangelical. More specifically, the author suggests that Kärkkäinen and Yong’s call for Pentecostals to embrace a more inclusive theology of religions is fraught with perils.

Abstract:
This article aims to explore hospitality as the basic character needed in developing interreligious dialogues. The underlying idea is that every religion has its particular characteristics of hospitality that can be valuable to start an effective dialogue. The author discerns the local wisdom phrased as hidup orang basudara as one of the chracteristics of the Moluccan hospitality that can be used to develop interreligious dialogue in Molucca, Indonesia. By drawing insights from the derriderian concept of “true hospitality” that surpasses ‘friendship’, hospitality model is offered as a better alternative in the praxis of building interreligious dialogue. This model is also considered more relevant to the people of Molucca, especially among the Christians and the Muslims, during the post-conflict period. The concept of hospitality is in line with some of the Moluccan local wisdoms that are explored in this article as well. In order to embark on the journey of reconciliation, people are invited to go beyond friendship, that is, towards living together as brothers and sisters.

Abstract:
Pentecostal theologians are increasingly aware that there cannot be an authentic pentecostal theology without a distinct pentecostal epistemology, or at least an epistemology that is compatible with pentecostal spirituality, beliefs, and practices. To date, Amos Yong and James Smith have arguably provided the most philosophically mature pentecostal theories of knowledge. They have not only constructed insightful theological epistemologies based on pentecostal presuppositions, but seem also to have provided pentecostal versions of “correlationist” and “postliberal” approaches to theological epistemology. The purpose of this article is to assess the pentecostal epistemologies of Yong and Smith, offer evaluative comments on their approaches, and suggest that pentecostal theologians/philosophers would significantly benefit from familiarizing themselves with and building on the epistemologies of Yong and Smith as the search for pentecostal epistemologies continues.

Abstract:
AbstractPentecostal theologian Amos Yong predicted that Filled with the Spirit, like Barth's Römerbrief, will fall 'like a bombshell on the playground of theologians' and 'explode in the field of those laboring on a theology of the spirit'. The range of reactions in this issue of Journal of Pentecostal Theology, represented by Roger Stronstad, Max Turner, and Robby Waddell, suggests that Yong's prediction is squarely on target. Levison has hit a nerve in Pentecostal pneumatology, and readers of Filled with the Spirit are dividing, like onlookers at Pentecost, into two camps: converts and critics. In this response, Levison addresses both camps by identifying the challenges and opportunities that Filled with the Spirit raises for Pentecostal and charismatic scholars, such as the need for a new definition of subsequence and the scandal of ecstasy in the New Testament. This article shows that Filled with the Spirit is iconoclastic and, as Yong suggests, explosive.

Shawn Copeland calls them in her consideration of the scars and wounds on black bodies? Or, as Nancy Eiesland and Amos Yong discuss it: do we retain our impairments as Christ did after his resurrection? I will describe the debate, highlight concern over continuity of identity, and use J. Kameron Carter’s work on theology and race to propose an alternative approach.
