Abstract:
AbstractLet $\tau$ be a partition of the positive integer $n$. A partition of the set $\{1,2,\dots,n\}$ is said to be of type $\tau$ if the sizes of its classes form the partition $\tau$ of $n$. It is known that the semigroup $S(\tau)$, generated by all the transformations with kernels of type $\tau$, is idempotent generated. When $\tau$ has a unique non-singleton class of size $d$, the difficult Middle Levels Conjecture of combinatorics obstructs the application of known techniques for determining the rank and idempotent rank of $S(\tau)$. We further develop existing techniques, associating w

The objective of this study is to compare univariate and joint bivariate return periods of extreme precipitation that all rely on different probability concepts in selected meteorological stations in Cyprus. Pairs of maximum rainfall depths with corresponding durations are estimated and compared using annual maximum series (AMS) for the complete period of the analysis and 30-year subsets for selected data periods. Marginal distributions of extreme precipitation are examined and used for the estimation of typical design periods. The dependence between extreme rainfall and duration is then asses

Abstract Reduction of MentPBr2M(CO)5 1 (M = Cr, W) with magnesium in THF yields the diphosphene complex (CO)5M(Ment)P=P(Ment)M(CO)5 2 as the main product. In addition, a phosphinidene complex, (CO)5M(Ment)PM(CO)5 (3) is also formed. The latter is obtained in larger amounts, if the reaction is carried out in the presence of M(CO)5THF. The proposed structures are confirmed by NMR and UV data as well as - in the case of the chromium compounds (2a, 3a) - by crystal structure analysis. Compound 2a is obtained only as the frans-isomer. An emotionally intelligent chatbot system aims to make an effective conversation between humans and machines in as natural and interactive a manner as possible. The chatbot agent has the pre-embedded knowledge base to identify the sentences, intents, entities, and context of the input query to be precise for making a valid, predictable decision itself as a self-generated response to answer the query. The present technical project consists of developing an intelligent system for college enquiry purposes using a web-based chatbot agent, through machine learning, query processing, and sentiment a

Abstract Aims/hypothesis Diabetes is associated with an increased risk of dementia. We estimated the potential impact of trends in diabetes prevalence upon mortality and the future burden of dementia and disability in England and Wales. Methods We used a probabilistic multi-state, open cohort Markov model to integrate observed trends in diabetes, cardiovascular disease and dementia to forecast the occurrence of disability and dementia up to the year 2060. Model input data were taken from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, Office for National Statistics vital data and published effect es

We consider the problem of testing whether r (>=2) samples are drawn from the same continuous distribution F(x). The test statistic we will study in some detail is defined as the maximum of the circular differences of the empirical distribution functions, a generalization of the classical 2-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test to r (>=2) independent samples. For the case of equal sample sizes we derive the exact null distribution by counting lattice paths confined to stay in the scaled alcove $\mathcal{A}_r$ of the affine Weyl group $A_{r-1}$. This is done using a generalization of the classical re

This period of development, termed “emerging adulthood”, is characterized by identity exploration and myriad possibilities related to who one is and what one wants out of life. Empirical evidence suggests that future goals linked to one’s identity are more likely to be obtained through three actions specified in the Selection-Optimization-Compensation (S.O.C.) model: sele
