The teacher professional development component of the will, skill, tool model of technology integration was tested for predictive validity in the cross-cultural context of data from Texas, USA, and data from Mexico City, Mexico. Structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis, path analysis, and multiple regression analysis, were statistical procedures employed. The analyses yielded positive results for the model's validity and reliability. The resulting model was found to be a reliable tool to evaluate technology integration among elementary and middle school teachers in Texas and in Mexico City.

Abstract This chapter discusses the mobilities of student newcomers to and in Paris by focusing on portrayals of aeromobility and mobilities in the Paris Metro. The texts analyzed range from novels published in the 1960s to the 1980s, the 1990s, and even the 2010s, and include Aké Loba’s Kocoumbo, l’étudiant noir (1960), Camara Laye’s Dramouss (1966), Ken Bugul’s Le Baobab fou (1983), Gisèle Hountondji’s Une Citronnelle dans la neige (1986), Monique Ilboudo’s Le Mal de peau (1992), Michèle Rakotoson’s Elle, au printemps (1996), and Liss Kihindou’s Chêne de bambou (2013). The readings emphasize the role played by modes of transport in the formation of “modern” mobile subjectivity. While air travel is represented as an alienating experience that sets in motion an assimilatory process, the student newcomers’ journeys in the Paris Metro can be read in part as claims of agency that aim at handling and claiming belonging within the urban space. The poetics of mobility in scenes of aeromobility reflect the newcomers’ frictional transition into a new life in the metropolis, while their journeys in the Metro capture their disorientation in the underground transit system but also their attempts to make sense of the city.

Although the late-eighteenth-century Dutch market for children’s books was reliant on international examples, it was also a space for the development and dissemination of innovative forms of education by Dutch authors in the Dutch Republic and beyond. Focusing on girls’ books as one segment of the market, this chapter demonstrates that many progressive girls’ books from abroad were translated into Dutch, serving as manifestations of a hierarchically organized educational process involving girls and adult women. The Dutch, however, also reshaped these examples by developing an innovative epistolary model that enabled girls to find their own voices and to educate one another. This model, in turn, exerted an impact on international book production. The chapter argues that Dutch girls’ books fostered the development of peer education among girls through continuous and sophisticated transnational interactions with international markets.

AbstractThis chapter presents the conclusions of research carried out by Polish, Lithuanian, Finnish, and Austrian researchers, aimed at providing an answer to the question of ‘How the implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) enriches the practices of inclusive education in different educational contexts.’ The summary of the research results is followed by a model of the application of the UDL approach for the development of inclusive education. In the model, the UDL approach is presented as an approach of transforming the process of education and strengthening teacher inclusive attitudes, as a prerequisite for the pupil’s becoming an expert learner, a means for mobilizing the school community, a tool for reflecting teacher competences, and a new perspective for re-interpreting educational practices. The UDL application model is valuable in terms of developing inclusive education practices, as it allows us to see barriers to pupil education as well as relevant directions for improving education in any educational and cultural context.

AbstractThis chapter accounts for a Swedish case-study on the potential of educational commons to promote more equal and inclusive education in the early years. Several conditions decisive for this potential to be activated are identified and analysed: (1) the relation between research and practice, (2) the image of the child, (3) the role of teachers, (4) the definition of the educational task, and (5) the educational methods used. These conditions are described further in terms of how they were activated within a Playworld/Interactive performance based a common research question, shared by preschool children and adults, on human beings’ place in nature and culture. The chapter concludes that educational commons may function as a catalyst in promoting more equal and inclusive education if, the image of children and teachers is embedded within a shared, intergenerational search for meaning where both children and teachers are conceived as contributing commoners, education defines its task not only as compensatory but also as complementary and as a place for children’s search for meaning, where imagination, play and the creative co-construction of narratives must be allowed to co-exist with more conventional and “rational” modes of learning and teaching, methods and theoretical tools in educational practice and research carry an aesthetic variety that incorporates both sensous-perceptive experiences and an enhancement of individual and collective memories as well as opportunities for children and adults to formulate and gather around a common object of knowledge and interest.

A significant component of digital transformation in K-12 schools is an understanding of the unique affordances of digital tools and technologies and how these can be leveraged to align with learning goals and targets to impact teaching and learning in new ways. While there are several models for innovation diffusion and technology adoption in K-12 contexts, they fall short, particularly in describing the nature and interactions of these interconnected systems. These aspects of technology implementation remain a mystery. As a result, efforts to enact change in K-12 organizations often fall short due to a lack of understanding of context, inadequate goal-setting, insufficient professional development and personalized supports to build capacity, and a failure to evaluate progress. In K-12 educational settings, the people, the competencies, and the culture, alongside the strong leadership, resources, and organizational context, are all essential to effect sustainable change. We propose a model for digital transformation that considers all of these factors and interconnected systems.
