Abstract:
Introduction: The central concept of the Adlerian theory of personality is the feeling of inferiority, which main function is to activate compensatory processes that make a person want to improve, grow and overcome their perceived weakness (Adler, 1989). The evidence of such processes is the life choices of people in the sphere of education and occupation. Purpose: The main purpose of the present work is to highlight the study results of inferiority and superiority complexes peculiarities of Ukrainians, their relation to the education and occupation choices. Methodology: The study sample included 449 subjects (282 females, 168 male) between 17 and 85 years old (M=32,96, SD = 13.299). Subjects were recruited from the general population by students who participated in the data collection. Participation in the study was voluntary and anonymous. Inferiority and superiority complexes were assessed using Adlerian inferiority (COMPIN) and superiority (SUCOMP) complex shortened scales (Čekrlija et al., 2017); socio-demographic variables such as gender, age, education and occupation were included. Results: Results show that approximately 70% of respondents have an average level of inferiority and superiority complexes. There is no significant correlation between the mentioned complexes and gender, but there is a negative correlation between the inferiority complex and age (r=.187). The younger Ukrainians are the more intensive inferiority complex they have. Occupation correlates negatively with the inferiority complex (r=.-120) and positively with the superiority complex (r=. 119). The more intensive superiority complex is, the higher positions occupy the respondents. Only inferiority complex correlates negatively with a level of education (r=.-160). People with higher education have less intensive inferiority complex. Conclusion: In sum, it is peculiar to Ukrainians to overcome inferiority complex with age. The intensity of their inferiority and superiority complexes doesn’t depend on gender. Ukrainians who occupy the high positions have a lower inferiority complex and higher superiority complex. People with low educational level have inferiority complex propensity

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to study the influence of visual impairment on the self-esteem. We propose a theoretical approach to the theory of Alfred Adler « the inferiority complex » in order to study the possible existence of an inferiority complex in the individuals with visual impairments because of their organic inferiority. In an approach to Cross-Cultural psychology, this research studies the effects which culture can have on the self-esteem of the visually impaired. Our hypothesis suggests that visual impairment has a negative effect on the self-esteem. That visually impaired would have a significant less self-esteem and that can, sometimes, to result in a inferiority complex. We also make the hypothesis that the cultural variable represented, in particular, by the means which support the autonomy and the glance of the society, plays an important role in self-esteem of the visually impaired. The subjects in this study consist of 68 visually impaired subjects and 112 subjects with normal vision (mean age = 36 years). The Toulouse Scale of Self-Esteem was used to measure the general self-esteem which gathers five fields of self-esteem.The results reveal a less self-esteem in blind subjects. They show no differences on this subject between the sexes, or between cultures. Finally, a clinical approach of clinical case study supports the theory of inferiority complex. It shows a feeling of inferiority that may exist among the visually impaired because of disability

Abstract:

Abstract:
This thesis critically analyses music coverage in Maclean’s between 1967-1995, and reveals that the magazine continually stressed Canadian music as inferior to that produced by foreign artists. Only during times of intense nationalism were Canadian musicians positively received in its pages. More generally, domestic productions were seen as deficient. The historical components of this investigation reveal an essential irony in the perception of Canadian music during the last four decades of the 20th century. Despite nationalist rhetorics and Maclean's self-appointed title of "Canada's National Newsmagazine," its critics consistently emphasised that Canadian music was of poor quality in the 1967-1995 period.

A globally acclaimed novel, Things Fall Apart is the debut novel written by the Nigerian novelist, Chinua Achebe in 1958. Achebe’s life experience of the cultural hybridization builds up a special vision for him to review and perceive the colonial nuance of his time. He depicts a story about the tribal lives of the Ibo natives and the cultural crash of the British colonization in Nigeria in the late 1800’s. Readers appreciate this novel for its realistic portrayal of the Ibo tribe that presents as an epitome of Africa. He employs this novel to respond to and rewrite the earlier accounts on African culture made by western writers and thinkers, which blacken the African as a barbarous, primitive and inferior other. He takes on the task of narrating and reconstructing the various dimensions of the Ibo culture in Nigeria. By using his innovative language, new ‘‘englishes,’’ he articulates the Ibo history, the social condition, the intersection of cultures, and the cultural discrimination in the British colonization. The principal aim of this thesis is to illustrate Achebe’s reconstruction of the value of the Ibo culture by examining his narrative technique and his usage of African englishes. In Chapter One, I undertake an analysis of Frantz Fanon’s concept of Superiority/Inferiority complex in order to illuminate the psychological condition of the colonial society in this novel. Chapter Two discusses the way in which Achebe reconstructs and criticizes the Ibo culture by means of examining the Ibo religion, the moral sense, and the social value of the Ibos. The last Chapter focuses on the language using of Achebe’s new ‘‘englishes’’ in this novel, consisting of the oral tradition, local knowledge, and Ibo tribalism. Achebe successfully voices the brilliance of the Ibo cultural legacy and articulates its specific way of acculturation through displaying the language and cultural diversity of the Ibos, and its way of encountering the British in the cultural contact zone.

Mbewe, Conrad Chanda. "Insights from the lives of Olive Doke and Paul Kasonga for pioneer mission and church planting today." Thesis, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/40260.

Full text
Abstract:
In this thesis, the researcher observes that one of the most difficult phases in the work of church planting missions is that of the handover stage from pioneer missionaries to indigenous leaders. This is often fraught with suspicions and fightings, and hence tends to delay the work until such issues are finally dealt with. Having observed a different story in the relationship between Olive Doke and Paul Kasonga in the early years of the planting of Baptist work in Zambia, the researcher has argued that the key lay in their mutual respect and admiration. He, therefore, posits that where these two ingredients are nurtured in the early stages of missions there will be a smooth handover process. In order to show that this was not just a philosophical or pragmatic idea, the researcher began his work with a biblical interpretation of missions. Drawing from the way the Lord Jesus Christ and his apostles went about their own handing over process to the next generation of leaders, he identified these same attitudes of mutual respect and admiration. He argues that these played an important role in ensuring a meaningful handover process. The researcher then entered upon finding as much information as he could on the lives of Olive Doke and Paul Kasonga, and about their working relationship. This was through unearthing various archived materials and conducting key interviews in the region where they once laboured. This formed the core of this research and, upon subjecting this to analysis, it proved the thesis that the success of their working relationship and handover process at the Kafulafuta Mission lay in their mutual respect and admiration. Finally, the researcher offers a model or strategy to ensure that what may have happened inadvertently between Olive Doke and Paul Kasonga is nurtured among missionaries and indigenous leaders. The researcher works these principles into all the stages of church planting missions—all the way from the training of the missionaries to the time when the work is totally handed over into the hands of local leaders and the missionaries have withdrawn from the work.

Abstract:
This chapter pinpoints engagements with alleged weakness as a central pre-occupation of Latin studies over the last thirty years and ponders the limitations of its conventional treatment and understanding by discussing a series of examples from Latin literature against the wider context of modern thought. Addressing central dimensions of the poetics of the weaker voice studied in detail in subsequent chapters—notably: authorial self-fashioning, hierarchies of genres, value judgements tied to literary history—it argues that, while there are many ways to stage a complex of inferiorities in any text, the central strategy in most, if not all, of them relies upon an upheaval of expectations: literary inferiority often, almost paradoxically, leads to an authorial voice of superiority as the ‘discourse of the low’ turns the tables on the ‘high’, and these texts marshal their own inferiority against the reader/audience, urging them to reconsider their judgement of superiority and inferiority.

Nowadays electric motors are used for various applications in the automotive industry which affects the automobiles’ mass significantly. Small and medium sized electromotors are mainly used for comfort applications like locking systems or mirror folding drives. On the other hand, electromotor drives use often a reduction of a high speed rotation to a slow and powerful movement by the usage of gears. Due to the multistage gear ratio principle, such drives emit a noise level up which can be an inferiority attribute of an automotive system. Nevertheless, comfort applications are mainly driven by electromotor actuators in automobiles. Figure 1 shows a cut through a schematic side mirror of a car with two major electromotor drives comparable to the state of the art. The motor for mirror folding consists mainly of the complex gear box which has to fulfill a mirror movement of more than 65° in less than 5 seconds. To move the mirror with the motor has to have enough mechanical power to overcome this force and to move the mirror with a torque of more than 5 Nm.

Abstract:
The intervertebral disc (IVD) is the largest cartilaginous structure in human body that contributes to flexibility and load support in the spine. To accomplish these functions, the disc has a unique architecture consisting of a centrally-located nucleus pulposus (NP) surrounded superiorly and inferiorly by cartilage endplates and peripherally by the annulus fibrosus (AF). Because the disc is avascular and experiences mechanical loads, the cells in IVD tissues live in a complex physical environment. Knowledge of mechanical, chemical and electrical signals within the tissue is important for understanding mechanobiology of IVD [1]. The objective of this study was to develop a three-dimensional (3D), inhomogeneous finite element model (FEM) for human IVD for analyzing the physical environment and solute transport within the tissue under different mechanical loading conditions. A case of IVD under axial compression was simulated and reported.
