Abstract:
This chapter tests the theory through a quantitative analysis of populist electoral success. It conducts a statistical analysis of the performance of populist candidates in all democracies across Asia, Europe, the, and Australasia. This analysis shows that as subnational units gain autonomy, the electoral performance of populist politicians is enhanced in patronage democracies but not in non-patronage democracies. This finding suggests that there exists a pathway to populist success that is distinctive to patronage democracies. To deal with the high number of cases in which populists receive n

Abstract:
The main objective of the Doctoral Thesis is to develop a new solution for the Earth gravity field determination based on spherical-cap-harmonic modelling, using both vertical deflection and gravimetric hybrid data. The values of vertical deflections caused by gravity field anomaly are computed using digital zenith camera. It is a new kind of astrogeodetic instrument employing recent advancements in several areas of technology. The intention is to use vertical deflections along with GNSS/levelling and gravity data to improve the local quasi-geoid model including both physical and geometrical d

Abstract:
Several episodes of market-oriented reforms in developing countries have been accompanied by a significant rise in work outside of the formal economy. This paper investigates whether the impact of increased exposure to trade on formal employment is mediated by the strength of labour regulations. We rely on data from the Brazilian Census which provides information on workers’ demographics and employment, including job formality status. Our estimation strategy exploits quasi-exogenous changes in industry-level real exchange rates to explore the likelihood of informality across employers exposed

Abstract:
This chapter, found in the bone, joint, and extremity pain section of the book, provides a succinct synopsis of a key study examining the use of decision rules for bone densitometry testing to mitigate risks for fractures associated with osteoporosis. This summary outlines the study methodology and design, major results, limitations and criticisms, related studies and additional information, and clinical implications. Researchers found that the Osteoporosis Risk Assessment Instrument and Simple Calculated Osteoporosis Risk Estimation decision rules performed the best for targeting dual-energy

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on magnetoencephalography (MEG) used in brain imaging and its use in localizing the brain sources of externally recorded spontaneous activity and stimulus and task –induced activation. The chapter first describes the instruments used for recording the magnetoencephalographic signals and the neurogenesis of these signals. It then considers proposed solutions for the “inverse” problem and describes approaches for MEG source estimation, including a method that specifies only one or many equivalent current dipoles. It also explains the signal source-localizing technique known
