Abstract:
From the point of view of the new science of globalism, the problems of the ecological, socio-economic state of the world and countries are considered through the prism of the interaction of the human psyche and society and the inhabited world. The criteria of ecological civilization of countries and peoples are justified. Optimizing the consumption of natural bio-and energy resources is becoming a fundamental environmental factor for sustainable development. The "Law of the maximum for humanity" as the law of the biosphere can be the arbitration court, the neutral force that will explain the historical need for mutual understanding, taking into account the interests of ecology and economy for the survival of man as a biovid on Earth; a new reality will begin to form — the phenomenon of co-residence of the world society with the biosphere. The world's population, its energy and bio-consumption, as well as all living matter on the planet, must correspond to the biological capacity of the Earth and not go beyond its boundaries. The task of the society is to implement a worldview breakthrough at the current stage of development, its own cultural mutation, which in the future will create the basis for adaptive technological and socio-cultural development. The task is to classify the entire Earth as a "Green Book" and to solve systemic environmental problems of a global nature. An integral part of sustainable development should be the principle of "vital consumption" at both the personal and social level, instead of the dominant principle of"expanded production and consumption". The indicator of the" culture of consumption "of natural resources, both at the individual level and at the level of society, should be included as an integral part of the integral indicator in the "True Indicator of Progress" and the "Human Development Index". The book is interdisciplinary in nature; it is a kind of scientific and philosophical poetic essay intended for teachers and students of universities in the field of sociology, ecology, biology and related fields, as well as for everyone who cares about the future of society.

Abstract:
The purpose of the monograph, which contains a modern view of the problem of adaptation of children with extremely low body weight, is to provide a wide range of doctors with basic information about the clinical picture, functional activity of innate and adaptive immunity, prognostic criteria of postnatal pathology, based on their own research. The specific features of the immunological reactivity of premature infants of various gestational ages who have developed bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and retinopathy of newborns (RN) from the moment of birth and after reaching postconceptional age (37-40 weeks) are described separately. The mechanisms of their implementation with the participation of factors of innate and adaptive immunity are considered in detail. Methods for early prediction of BPD and RN with the determination of an integral indicator and an algorithm for the management of premature infants with a high risk of postnatal complications at the stage of early rehabilitation are proposed. The information provided makes it possible to personify the treatment, preventive and rehabilitation measures in premature babies. The monograph is intended for obstetricians-gynecologists, neonatologists, pediatricians, allergists-immunologists, doctors of other specialties, residents, students of the system of continuing medical education. This work was done with financial support from the Ministry of Education and Science, grant of the President of the Russian Federation No. MK-1140.2020.7.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses four general features of modern Orthodox epistemology of theology—ontologism, apophaticism, integral knowledge, and the noetic implications of theosis—and the contributions of individual Orthodox authors, including Berdyaev, Bulgakov, Florensky, Florovsky, Frank, Khomiakov, Lossky, Solovyov, and Zizioulas. Ontologism is a philosophical stance that subordinates epistemology to metaphysics; apophaticism is an attitude towards the mystery of God with implications for theories of religious language, religious experience, and metaphysics; a theory of integral knowledge challenges one-sided epistemologies developed in modernity; and the idea of theosis indicates human participation in the life of God, which has implications for the process of coming to know God. Gavrilyuk highlights the retrieval by Orthodox neopatristic theologians of important pre-modern epistemological insights as well as their contributions to personalism, reliabilism, and social and virtue epistemology that remain unknown in Western scholarly literature.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter reviews the neuropsychological literature in adult and pediatric OCD, and then reviews the limitations, current controversies, and caveats in this area. Characterization of neuropsychological deficits associated with psychological problems has the potential to integrate neurobiological and psychopathological research. The cognitive neuropsychology of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) has been extensively studied over the past three decades. This impressive body of literature indicates that individuals diagnosed with OCD tend to exhibit moderate underperformance on neuropsychological tests in most, although not all, cognitive domains. However, neuropsychological research in OCD has been notoriously inconsistent. Moreover, the presence of broad though modest deficits, rather than large discrete ones, raises serious challenges for attempts to integrate neuropsychological constructs into neurobiological and psychological models of OCD.

Abstract:
Access to water and energy have been identified as integral elements necessary to realizing sustainable development and the principal goal of poverty eradication as indicated in the SGD goals. These goals are especially relevant to the African continent, where many are still without access to safe, clean water, and energy. As it were, the provision of water and energy services are intricately connected; to provide water, energy is required, and vice versa. Against this background, the chapter examines African regional, sub-regional, and national legal frameworks and policies to ascertain whether they provide adequate platforms through which sustainable access to water and energy can be achieved and, conversely, whether these legal frameworks and policies impede sustainable access to water and energy. The chapter finds that to ensure sustainable access to water and energy, an integrated rather than individualistic approach might provide the requisite solution.

Adams, George. Jack London as Poet. Edited by Jay Williams. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199315178.013.13.

Full text
Abstract:
Jack London’s failure as a poet, defined by esthetic or marketable criteria, is not an argument for ignoring his poetry. The mere fact of his including his poems in his essays and stories indicates that poetry was an integral aspect of his creativity and hence must be considered in an evaluation of his work as a whole. This essay provides an overview and classificatory system for better understanding his poetic output, especially in relation to the rest of his work. Given the difficulty of demonstrating that London was a poet who also reluctantly wrote prose, it is perhaps more accurate to call him a prose writer who for various reasons wrote poetry. A way to recuperate the view that he had a poetic instinct is to consider him the third kind of poet, in the larger etymological sense of the Greek poietes, “one who makes” or “creates.”

Full text
Abstract:
Although Wallace Stevens’s work is often read as hermetic and aestheticizing in a time of radical politics, examining its formal properties shows that responding to the news of World War II was integral to Stevens’s poetics. His poetry conveys an abiding belief in the epistemological value of soldiers’ witnessing war in the flesh. How, then, can a civilian with no immediate experience of war press back against violence through a poem, as Stevens wrote? Contradictions, obstacles, and silences turn back upon themselves in Stevens’s wartime poems through rhetoric that indicates figures of relation and reflects on its own process of bridging distance. This chapter contends that, for Stevens, a civilian war poem must be self-reflexive to be ethical. It must dramatize its process; it must be responsive to current events and contemporary speech; and it must involve its readers in recognizing that the imagination’s relation to reality is mediated by war.

Abstract:
Multiple psychosocial treatments for substance-use disorders have been studied for efficacy. A recent meta-analysis indicates that psychosocial interventions are effective across multiple types of substances used. In the case of opiates, psychosocial interventions combined with medication appear to be the most effective. Many studies further agree that psychosocial interventions are an integral and necessary part of treating substance-use disorders. Although theoretical orientations may differ across psychosocial treatments, they have several principles and practices in common. All involve talk therapy or talk in communities as a way to clarify triggers, build commitment, and improve accountability. Many also target addiction behaviors and work to develop alternative contingencies to reduce or eliminate use. Finally, targeting repeated performance (or building “chains of committed behavior”) decreases the likelihood of relapse. This chapter discusses the most frequently studied and employed psychosocial treatments for substance use including CBT, motivational interviewing, contingency management, mindfulness, and community-based programs.

Silliman, Brian R., Brent B. Hughes, Y. Stacy Zhang, and Qiang He. Business as usual leads to underperformance in coastal restoration. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198808978.003.0027.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter shows that coastal wetland projects are underperforming because of confirmation bias. Despite two decades of work showing that top-down control can be essential to marsh restoration, the potential role of top predators is typically ignored by those responsible for restoring or maintaining marshes. Similarly ignored are experiments that indicate positive interaction between marsh plants and can enhance the pace and success of restoration. By planting marsh plants at higher densities, marsh restoration success can double, and seagrass restoration can succeed in the face of increasing drought and eutrophication effects. Continued failure to integrate top-down control and facilitative species interactions into coastal restoration designs will result in widespread underperformance of wetland conservation projects and unrealized generation of important ecosystem services.

Martz, Erin, ed. Promoting Self-Management of Chronic Health Conditions. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med-psych/9780190606145.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
This book explores the theories and practices that help to facilitate self-management of chronic health conditions (also known as chronic impairments or chronic diseases). It consists of four parts, in addition to an introductory chapter and a chapter on defining self-management, for a total of 22 chapters. This book includes discussions about self-management models, psychological interventions, and collaborative care on both individual and systemic levels for the promotion of self-management. Self-management requires that individuals understand the range of symptoms related to their specific chronic impairment, what those symptoms may indicate, and what actions to take to address those symptoms. Healthcare providers are an integral part of providing self-management support (SMS) to these individuals. Self-management includes the micro-decisions that individuals with chronic health conditions make about their conditions and the macro-decisions (e.g., creating treatment plans) that healthcare providers make in collaboration with individuals with chronic health conditions. This book focuses on exploring a range of self-management practices that can empower individuals with chronic health conditions to be less dependent on healthcare systems and, ultimately, to be more in control of their lives.

Abstract:
Many music therapists join an organization as the first employee in the role, and consequently are the first music therapist that many of their new colleagues will have met. This chapter provides information about the challenges of introducing music therapy to established workplaces, securing funding and resources, gaining acceptance from interprofessional team members, and determining a role for music therapy. The ways in which music therapy can become an integral part of a healthcare or education organization are explored. Published accounts indicate that the development of music therapy posts can be facilitated or restricted by a range of complex forces, such as historical factors, power dynamics, organizational cultures, and a music therapist’s relationships with other workers. From the sparse information available about music therapy start up, it is not possible to establish clear causal links between influential factors. It is likely that successful start-up depends on a complex range of context-based factors, and the key to gaining entry in one practice setting may not necessarily open the door in another. Furthermore, the development of new posts may be influenced by power dynamics within the organization, and a music therapist’s relationships with other workers. Literature that describes how music therapists have navigated this complexity are reviewed and discussed.

Out-of-Pocket Expenditure: The Need for a Gender Analysis. Pan American Health Organization, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.37774/9789275123546.

Full text
Abstract:
The main purpose of this publication is to advocate for the need to understand the gendered nature of vulnerabilities to poor health. Gender equality in health is an integral dimension of sustainable development, and it is critical to apply a “gender lens” to all aspects of the health system, including financing mechanisms in health. The impact of health-related out-of-pocket expenditure (OPE) on household poverty has been a significant factor driving the move toward universal health coverage across much of Latin America and beyond. However, not only do health care users still face a broad range of health-related OPEs that can contribute to the impoverishment of households, but the gender dimensions of OPEs have received very little attention. Drawing primarily on data from Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Peru, this report offers an in-depth analysis of the gender dimensions of health-related OPEs in Latin America. It highlights the limitations of survey data in determining levels of household spending on health as well as the potential failure of indicators to capture the impacts of coping strategies that households adopt to pay for OPEs. This publication calls for the application of an intersectional analysis to ensure a more nuanced understanding of the ways in which other social identity markers, such as race and ethnicity, alongside gender shape the ability of individuals and households to respond to the different OPEs they may encounter. Until policymakers consider the issue through a gender lens, OPE will continue to limit the potential of universal health care coverage to effectively address health inequalities.

Abstract:
The Index of Illustrations is an integral part of the definitive guide “Literary Heritage For 80 Years. A Guide to Volumes 1–103 yrs. 1931–2011”. There are nearly 12,000 illustrations in 103 volumes of “Literary Heritage”. The search for content spanned small and large museums, archives, and libraries in Russia, with many illustrations published for the first time ever. Other materials were sourced from public and private collections within the country and from abroad. The resulting illustrative content in “Literary Heritage” forms a massive, powerful visual projection of Russian authors, aspects of their family and everyday life, the spectrum of cultural and political professions, and portraits of actors in life and as performers on the stages of domestic and foreign theaters. The authors emphasized reproducing autographs including unpublished manuscripts, letters, and dedications on photographs and in books. Of great importance is the replication of printed materials — illustrations from the works of Russian authors as representative examples of typography. Finally, we should highlight many illustrations that give the viewer an idea about the environment of the authors, including memorials and monuments. The Index of Illustrations serves as a key to this iconic collection of materials, cataloging cutlines in order of their appearance in the volumes and respective location within each book. Cutlines are expanded on the illustrations’ theme — the subjects of the portraits, the groups gathered for specific purposes, the authors of the manuscripts, etc. They indicate the artist or photographer of the original illustration and its current location (museum, archive, etc.). In addition, a cross-reference of over 7,000 names accompanies the Index.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The Higher Education Institutions that run business management programs in Malaysia is under severe criticism from industry that the passing out management graduates do not have adequate practical exposure to the industry and lack of practical skills to deal industrial issues proactively as the catalyst of change. This indicates that the traditional management education curriculum, as presently constituted, may not be adequately preparing individuals for the challenges they experience as professional managers. To deal with this issue, many management institutes are adopting case study as a pedagogy, a hypothetical or actual business situation to formulate a recommended policy or decision based on the facts and figures provided, to induce practical exposure to the students by simulating case situations, which improve students analytical skills and decision-making skills.A case study in business management course is a rigorous analysis of an incident, situation, person, crisis or any such phenomenon or concept, in relation to industry, business or people in the organisations. It is well related to the management, process or methodology adopted by the organisation stressing analysis of chain of events for better change management in relation to business operation context. The case studies included in this book provides better perspective of various issues and situations in the business field. The cases are written from the field of Organisational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Business Ethics, International Business, Strategic Management, Business Laws and General Management.
