Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
In line with the sociological shift in translation and literary studies, which is experiencing increasing success nowadays, Professor Mazal Oaknín offers us an essential work to delve into the evolution of women’s writing in Spain in the twentieth century and how it is represented and constructed through the media. Unlike descriptive research focusing on cultural products, this scholar bases her research on the influence that historical context and marketing constraints have exerted on the image through which three emblematic female Spanish writers (Ana María Matute, Rosa Montero and Lucía Etxebarría) have introduced themselves to the world of letters and their readerships.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The present research work, has the objective of determining the quantity of carbon in the live aerial arboreal biomass; to do so, seven 50m x 50m plots were defined; randomly distributed within the area of the current research; twenty eight families and seventy three arboreal species were identified from a total of 1837 specimens; the family with the most abundance was Rubiaceae, the specie with the most abundance was Cinchona pubescens Vahl (Quina amarillo) with 143 specimens identified. The quantity of stored carbon in the aerial arboreal biomass was an average of 70.08 tC/ac with respect to the plots studied; statistically, the stored carbon has a heterogenous behavior within the area in study; due to the fact that it is found to be influenced by the height and type of vegetation category; at 1066 – 1187 masl the greatest quantity of carbon was found; and the mature trees influence the quantity of carbon at a 50%, followed by the rest of the categories.

Abstract:
Abstract This essay focuses on the autobiographical reformulation of Dante’s myth in the short story “Switchboard Girl”, by the Objectivist American poet Lorine Niedecker (1903–1970). Within the cognitive linguistics paradigm of storyworld possible selves, or SPSs (Martínez, María-Ángeles. 2014. Storyworld possible selves and the phenomenon of narrative immersion. Testing a new theoretical construct. Narrative 22 (1). 110–131, Martínez, María-Ángeles. 2018. Storyworld possible selves. Berlin and New York: De Gruyter), the study explores the projection of a past Dantean SPS as key to individuals’ perspectival alignment with the narrator, and concomitantly, with the author’s fictionalized formulation of the realities of American working-class women in the 1950s. The linguistic anchoring of this Dantean SPS is also analysed and discussed. The results highlight Niedecker’s concern with drawing readers into sharing the personal hell of an intelligent, rural middle-class, mature woman with a serious visual disability, who is unsuccessfully applying for a menial job as a switchboard operator. The analysis also prompts a revision of the original SPS typology to include the author SPSs likely to be generated by readers of autobiographical narratives.

Abstract:
Palynological analyses of the Marambio Group sediments of Humps Island (Santa Marta and López de Bertodano formations) indicates that there is minor displacement across a prominent NW–SE trending normal fault which passes beneath the southern bluff. No major compositional differences were perceived between the palynomorph assemblages either side of the fault. A late Campanian age is suggested for both sequences, based on comparison with Australasian dinoflagellate cyst zonations. A new species of the dinoflagellate cyst Bourkidinium has been recorded from strata on either side of the fault. A significant number of recycled Permian and Early Cretaceous palynomorphs were recorded. Most are miospores and exhibit significant variation in preservational states, implying derivation from several sources. More thermally mature Permian gymnosperm pollen is most likely derived from the nearby Trinity Peninsula Group, exposed on the Antarctic Peninsula. The source of the relatively well preserved Permian pollen is problematic.

Abstract:
Renewable energy communities (RECs) are alternatives toward sustainable production and consumption pathways. In 2020, Italy implemented the EU Directive 2018/2001, defining a common framework for promoting energy from renewable sources. The “Famiglia di Maria”, a foundation dealing with social issues in San Giovanni a Teduccio, Napoli (Italy), in collaboration with “Legambiente” and “Con il Sud” Foundations, released the first Solidarity Oriented Renewable Energy Community project in Italy. Therefore, by applying social life cycle assessment (s-LCA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies, this study aims to: (i) promote the dissemination of RECs in the Italian and European contexts, (ii) suggest REC scenarios for the best social and environmental solutions, and (iii) support the policymakers for sustainable local development. Some key results show that the solidarity-oriented project has already produced mature outcomes about community cohesion. In contrast, technical skills and awareness about environmental issues still need to be further developed and shared among the stakeholders. Finally, social and environmental indicators converge on the self-consumption model as a feasible alternative for energy justice, community empowerment, and economic and market competition independence.

Abstract:
The life cycles of 12 species of winter stoneflies belonging to the families Capniidae and Taeniopterygidae were studied in six river systems (seven sampling sites) in southern Quebec. Eight of the cycles were previously undescribed. All species were univoltine. Adults emerged as soon as the ice broke on the streams in late winter, except for Paracapnia angulata, Taenionema atlanticum, and Strophopteryx fasciata, which emerged about 3 weeks later. The simplest cycle occurred in Paracapnia opis, and P. angulata: egg development was direct and nymphal growth proceeded steadily from May to January. All other species showed evidence of a nymphal diapause interrupting development between June and September. In Allocapnia pygmaea, A. recta, C. vernalis, Taeniopteryx maura, T. parvula, and Oemopteryx glacialis, growth was completed by January, but A. minima, A. maria, Taenionema atlanticum, and Strophopteryx fasciata continued to develop through the winter and reached maturity just before emergence. Allocapnia recta, the first species to emerge, was also the first to mature, but the population showed much variability and the last nymphs to emerge were probably the only ones to survive and reproduce under Quebec climatic conditions.

Abstract:
AbstractSource term is the amount of radionuclide activity, measured in becquerels, released to the atmosphere from a nuclear reactor, together with the plume composition, over a specific period. It is the basis of radioprotection-related calculation. Usually, such computations are done using commercial codes; however, they are challenging to be used in the case of the MARIA reactor due to its unique construction. Consequently, there is a need to develop a method that will be able to deliver useful results despite the complicated geometry of the reactor site. Such an approach, based upon the Bateman balance equation, is presented in the article, together with the results of source term calculation for the MARIA reactor. Additionally, atmospheric dispersion of the radionuclides, analysed with the Gauss plume model with dry deposition, is presented.

Abstract:
Abstract The Irradiation System for High-Temperature Reactors (ISHTAR) thermostatic rig will be used to irradiate advanced core material samples in conditions corresponding to those prevailing in the high-temperature reactors (HTRs): these conditions include a stable temperature extending up to 1000°C in the helium atmosphere. Computational and experimental studies concerning the design have been conducted, proving the possibility of these conditions’ fulfillment inside the rig while maintaining the safety limits for MARIA research reactor. The outcome is the thermostatic rig design that will be implemented in the MARIA reactor. Appropriate irradiation temperature will be achieved by a combination of electric heating with the control system, gamma heating, and a helium insulation gap with precisely designed thickness. The ISHTAR rig will be placed inside the vertical irradiation channel, which is located in the reactor pool. The device is being developed from scratch at the Nuclear Facilities Operation Department of the National Centre for Nuclear Research as a part of the GOSPOSTRATEG programme.

Abstract:
In September and October 2011, samples were collected from mature peach trees (~17 years old) exhibiting symptoms of chlorotic rings and spots, vein clearing, mosaic, necrosis, leaf distortion, stunting, and rosette formation in a major commercial orchard (~80 ha) near Podgorica, Montenegro. Samples were collected from nine different peach varieties (cvs. Adriana, Caldesi, Gloria, Maria Marta, May Crest, Morsiani, Rita Star, Spring Belle, and Spring Crest). Samples (n = 58) were tested using DAS-ELISA for the presence of Prune dwarf virus (PDV) and Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV). Commercial positive and negative controls were included in each ELISA (antisera and controls supplied by BIOREBA AG, Reinach, Switzerland). Only one symptomatic sample from cv. Gloria tested positive for PDV (sample reference: 399/11), a further 11 samples (cvs. Rita Star [six], May Crest [four] and Spring Crest [one]) were positive for PNRSV. Samples were also tested for Plum pox virus (PPV) by real-time RT-PCR (1). The PDV positive sample (399/11) showing mosaic was in mixed infection with PPV, as were 6 of the 11 PNRSV samples, including sample 373/11 with yellow mottling and leaf distortion symptoms. On single-infected PNRSV, sample 368/11 chlorotic line patterns and leaf deformations were observed. To confirm the presence of PDV and PNRSV, positive samples were also tested by RT-PCR. Total RNA was extracted using RNeasy Plant Mini kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany). RT-PCR was performed with primer pairs PDV2F/PDV1R (3) and MG1/MG2 (2) specific for PDV and PNRSV, respectively. Amplicons of the expected size, 173 bp for PDV and 675 bp for PNRSV, were obtained from corresponding ELISA-positive samples. Amplified products from three samples (PDV 399/11 and PNRSV 368/11 and 373/11) were cloned into pGEM-T Easy Vector (Promega, Madison, WI) then sent for sequence analysis (MWG-Biotech AG, Edersberg, Germany). Sequence data was compared to sequences published in GenBank. Analysis of sequence obtained from isolate 399/11 (cv. Gloria) corresponded to partial CP gene of PDV, with a high degree of similarity to isolates reported from other parts of the world ranging from 94.2 to 95.9%, showing highest similarity with isolate Ch 137 (L28145). Sequence analyses of CP gene from PNRSV isolates 368/11 (JX569825) and 373/11 (JX569826) proved to be 89.3 to 99.7% identical with corresponding sequences of isolates previously described. In particular, the Montenegrin PNRSV isolates were most closely related to Chilean NctCl.augl isolate from nectarine (EF565253). To demonstrate that the virus was infectious, seedlings of peach cv. GF305 were side grafted with bud-woods from PDV (sample 399/11) and PNRSV-positive samples (samples 368/11 and 373/11) and a healthy control sample. Grafted seedlings were kept in a greenhouse with a under 16-h light regime at 22 to 24°C and observed for symptom development. No symptoms were observed in grafted plants with the healthy control. All plants inoculated with virus-positive samples exhibited stunted vegetation and mild mottle with no difference in symptoms between the two viruses. Indicator plants of peach cv. GF305 inoculated with PPV dual-infected samples (399/11 and 373/11) were subsequently shown to be positive for PPV by real-time RT-PCR. Subsequent DAS-ELISA test on samples from experimentally inoculated trees using specific antisera as described above confirmed PDV and PNRSV infections as expected. These viruses have recently been reported from sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.) in Serbia (4), ~600 km to the northeast. However, to our knowledge, this is the first report on the occurrence of PDV and PNRSV in Montenegro. References: (1) N. Capote et al. Int. Microbiol. 12:1, 2009. (2) M. Glasa et al. Ann. Appl. Abstract:
Abstract The main objective of 235U irradiation is to obtain the 99mTc isotope, which is widely used in the domain of medical diagnostics. The decisive factor determining its availability, despite its short lifetime, is a reaction of radioactive decay of 99Mo into 99mTc. One of the possible sources of molybdenum can be achieved in course of the 235U fission reaction. The paper presents activities and the calculation results obtained upon the feasibility study on irradiation of 235U targets for production of 99Mo in the MARIA research reactor. Neutronic calculations and analyses were performed to estimate the fission products activity for uranium plates irradiated in the reactor. Results of dummy targets irradiation as well as irradiation uranium plates have been presented. The new technology obtaining 99Mo is based on irradiation of high-enriched uranium plates in standard reactor fuel channel and calculation of the current fission power generation. Measurements of temperatures and the coolant flow in the molybdenum installation carried out in reactor SAREMA system give online information about the current fission power generated in uranium targets. The corrective factors were taken into account as the heat generation from gamma radiation from neighbouring fuel elements as well as heat exchange between channels and the reactor pool. The factors were determined by calibration measurements conducted with aluminium mock-up of uranium plates. Calculations of fuel channel by means of REBUS code with fine mesh structure and libraries calculated by means of WIMS-ANL code were performed.

Abstract:
Abstract Background. ILC represents the second most common histological type of breast cancer (BC), accounting for approximately 15% of all invasive BCs. Loss of cell-cell adhesion due to genomic alterations of CDH1,. the gene coding for E-cadherin, is the hallmark of ILC. So far, in the WHO guidelines, it is essential to recognize the dispersed or linear discohesive cells but it is not mandatory to demonstrate E-cadherin loss by immunohistochemistry (IHC) for diagnosing ILC. Recent central pathology revisions of clinical trials have demonstrated overdiagnosis of ILC in local pathological diagnosis, as only ~60% of the locally diagnosed ILCs were confirmed by central pathology. To understand the possible underlying reasons, we undertook a worldwide survey on the currently used histopathological diagnostic criteria for ILC. Materials and Methods. A survey was drafted using the online tool SurveyMonkey by a panel of pathologists and researchers from the European Lobular Breast Cancer Consortium (ELBCC). This survey was circulated to pathologists from December 14, 2020 until July, 1 2021. The main goals were to register the use of E-cadherin as a diagnostic marker for ILC and the systematic reporting of the ILC subtypes. Results. A total of 149 entries were recorded from 34 different countries from 6 continents. Pathologists declared working in a large tertiary (30%, 44/149) or university hospital (56%, 84/149), with an average yearly volume of BC samples >300 in 111/149 (74%) and >500 in 80/149 (54%) respondents. 117/149 (79%) are specialized in breast pathology. About half of the pathologists systematically perform IHC for ILC diagnosis (52%, 77/149), whilst others only perform staining in case of doubt (43%, 64/149) or for differentiating DCIS from LCIS (3%, 4/149). There was no association between the systematic use of IHC, the volume of BC samples, the type of institution (academic, large tertiary, private), and the number of pathologists in the institution. Concerning the use of IHC, 141/145(97%) participants use E-cadherin, 35/145 (24%) use β-catenin and 49/145 (34%) use p120-catenin. The majority (50%, 73/145) uses only E-cadherin, 13% (19/145) use E-cadherin in combination with β-catenin or 23% (33/145) use E-cadherin with p120-catenin, while 11% (16/145) use all 3 antibodies. For E-cadherin, 11 different clones were reported, of which the NCH-38 is the most frequently used (45%, 39/86), followed by Clone 36 (17%, 15/86) and EP700Y (16%, 14/86). Heterogeneity is reported regarding the used concentration per clone. The most frequently used modality of antigen retrieval is the heat induced one. Similar findings were observed for β-catenin and p120-catenin with each 4 different clones reported, again with variable concentrations. Only 4/104 (4%) respondents reported to perform DNA sequencing for CDH1 for diagnosing ILC. Most special lobular types are systematically reported by the vast majority of the pathologists: classic (149/149, 100%), pleomorphic (140/149, 94%), solid (108/149, 72%), histiocytoid/apocrine (90/149, 60%), alveolar (90/149, 60%), trabecular (54/149, 36%), mixed non-classic (54/149, 36%) and mucinous (51/149, 34%). Conclusions. We report the results of the first worldwide survey concerning diagnosis of ILC in pathological practice. The results demonstrate that ~half of the institutions systematically perform E-cadherin IHC to support the diagnosis of ILC. There is a great variability in E-cadherin antibody clones used as well as their concentrations, which might result in differences in staining results and their interpretation. As ILC-specific therapeutic avenues are currently being explored, some of which already in the context of clinical trials, it is of utmost importance to further improve the standardization of ILC diagnosis at the pathology level. Abstract:
Active mass damper (AMD) control system is proposed for high-rise buildings to resist a strong wind. However, negative influence of noise in sensors impedes the application of AMD systems in practice. To reduce the adverse influence of noise on AMD systems, a Kalman filter and a linear matrix inequality- (LMI-) based filter are designed. Firstly, a ten-year return period fluctuating wind load is simulated by mixed autoregressive-moving average (MARMA) method, and its reliability is tested by wind speed power spectrum and correlation analysis. Secondly, a designed state observer with different filters uses wind-induced acceleration responses of a high-rise building as the feedback signal that includes noise to calculate control force in this paper. Finally, these methods are applied to a numerical example of a high-rise building and an experiment of a single span four-storey steel frame. Both numerical and experimental results are presented to verify that both Kalman filter and LMI-based filter can effectively suppress noise, but only the latter can guarantee the stability of AMD parameters.

Abstract:
Abstract Results of numerical calculations of heat exchange in a nuclear heating detector for nuclear reactors are presented in this paper. The gamma radiation is generated in nuclear reactor during fission and radiative capture reactions as well as radioactive decay of its products. A single-cell calorimeter has been designed for application in the MARIA research reactor in the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Świerk near Warsaw, Poland, and can also be used in the Jules Horowitz Reactor (JHR), which is under construction in the research centre in Cadarache, France. It consists of a cylindrical sample, which is surrounded by a gas layer, contained in a cylindrical housing. Additional calculations had to be performed before its insertion into the reactor. Within this analysis, modern computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods have been used for assessing important parameters, for example, mean surface temperature, mean volume temperature, and maximum sample (calorimeter core) temperature. Results of an experiment performed at a dedicated out-of-pile calibration bench and results of numerical modelling validation are also included in this paper.

Abstract:
This paper will present a novel genetic-algorithm-based code (GASPED), developed for the analysis of fine features (e.g., satellite structure and line shifts) in X-ray spectra emitted by hot dense plasmas. The problem dependent modification of standard genetic-algorithm concepts allows efficient decomposition of spectra in concrete physical terms, such as resonance and intercombination lines, dielectronic satellites, or prospective nuclear transitions. Two examples of the code application demonstrate the proposed approach. High resolution K-shell spectra emitted from He- and Li-like Al ions immersed in dense, constrained-flow plasma are decomposed into individual pseudo-Voigt components, by using anticipatory theoretical knowledge of the satellite structure simulated by the multilevel collisional-radiative code (MARIA). Line shifts of the He-like resonance and intercombination line are deduced assuming the aggregate plasma-induced shifts of the parent lines and their satellites. The trend in the frequency shifts observed as a function of the variable plasma parameters qualitatively follows the theoretical predictions. The found variations of the exchange energy between the singlet and triplet levels provide a new impact for the line shift theories. The second example concerns the search for low-lying nuclear transitions in hot dense laser-produced plasmas. The spectra of highly ionized Ta are decomposed by combining the GASPED code with results of ab initio atomic data calculations performed by the RELAC code. Upper limits for observation of the controversial radiative decay of Ta nuclei at 6.238 eV are estimated.

Abstract:
Abstract The use of radiotracers in the present study is intended to replace traditional steps of metal quantitative analysis (solution sampling and instrumental chemical analysis) and to allow real-time measurements of metal concentrations during the leaching process. In this study, 64Cu, an isotope of copper, was selected as a radiotracer. Samples of copper flotation tailings were irradiated in the Maria research reactor (Świerk, Poland) and mixed with an inactive portion of the milled fl otation waste. The leaching process was carried out in a glass reactor, and the radiation spectrum was measured using a gamma spectrometer. The material was then treated using various acids (sulphuric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, citric acid, and ascorbic acid) in a wide range of their concentrations. Experiments with the radiotracer were conducted in sulphuric and nitric acids. The amount of the leached metal (copper) was calculated on the basis of the peak area ratio in the gamma-ray spectrum of the activated tailings and standard samples. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was also used to analyse the metal content. Maximum recovery of 56% Cu was achieved using 9 M HNO3, whereas the recovery was lowest for ascorbic acid (<1%). Both analytical methods were compared, and the results presented in this paper are in good agreement with radiometric measurements obtained using ICP-MS analysis.

Abstract:
Anthracnose is major disease of pepper (Capsicum annum) in the tropics and causes severe damage both in the field and postharvest. In Brazil, this disease is caused by Colletotrichum acutatum, C. boninense, C. capsici, C. coccodes, and C. gloeosporioides, where the first species is responsible for 70% of all occurrences (3). Recently, C. acutatum has been considered a species complex (1); thus, the aim of this study was to verify the etiology of anthracnose on peppers using a morphological and molecular approaches. In 2011, pepper fruits with typical symptoms of anthracnose (dark, sunken spots with concentric rings of orange conidial masses) were collected in Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil. A single spore isolate was obtained on potato dextrose agar (PDA), and the derived culture was deposited in the Coleção de Culturas de Fungos Fitopatogênicos “Prof. Maria Menezes” (code CMM-4200). The upper side colonies on PDA were gray, cotton-like, and pale gray to pale orange. Conidia were hyaline, aseptate, smooth, straight, cylindrical with round ends or occasionally with end ± acute, 12.5 to 17 μm long and 3.5 to 4 μm wide on synthetic nutrient deficient agar. The isolate was morphologically typical of species belonging to the C. acutatum complex. Molecular identification of the pathogen was carried out and sequences of the regions internal transcribed spacer (ITS), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), and β-tubulin (βt) were obtained and deposited in GenBank (Accession Nos. KJ541821 to KJ541823). A search in the Q-bank fungi database using the ITS, βt, and GAPDH sequences retrieved C. scovillei with 100% identity for all three genes. This pathogen was previously reported in Capsicum spp. only in Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan (1,2). To confirm pathogenicity, drops with 105 spores/ml were deposited in 10 artificially wounded fruits (cv. Itapuã 501 and Melina). In control fruits, drops of sterilized water were deposited onto wounds. The fruits were covered for one day with a transparent plastic bag with moisture supplied by a wet filter paper. The fruits were detached and mature. The bags were removed, and the fruits were incubated for 10 days in a growth chamber at 25°C with a photoperiod of 12 h. After 4 days, gray-brown to black sunken spots with concentric rings were observed on 100% of the wounded fruits that had been inoculated. No disease was observed on the control fruits. The fungus C. scovillei was successfully re-isolated from symptomatic fruits to fulfill Koch's postulates. To our knowledge, this is the first report of anthracnose on pepper fruit caused by C. scovillei in Brazil. Due to the diversity of species that cause anthracnose in Capsicum, future studies using morphological and molecular tools are essential for the correct identification of Colletotrichum spp. on pepper in Brazil.
