Abstract:
Topologies of finite spaces and spaces with countably many points are investigated. It is proven, using the theory of ordered topological spaces, that any topology in connected ordered spaces, with finitely many points or in spaces similar to the set of all integers, is an interval-alternating topology. Integer and digital lines, arcs, and curves are considered. Topology of N-dimensional digital spaces is described. A digital analog of the intermediate value theorem is proven. The equivalence of connectedness and pathconnectedness in digital and integer spaces is also proven. It is shown here how methods of continuous mathematics, for example, topological methods, can be applied to objects, that used to be investigated only by methods of discrete mathematics. The significance of methods and ideas in digital image and picture processing, robotic vision, computer tomography and system's sciences presented here is well known.

Abstract:
In recent years, a new area of mathematics — idempotent or “tropical” mathematics — has been intensively developed within the framework of the Sofus Lee international center, which is reflected in the works of V.P. Maslov, G.L. Litvinov, and A.N. Sobolevsky. The Legendre transformation plays an important role in theoretical physics, classical and statistical mechanics, and thermodynamics. In mathematics and its applications, the Legendre transformation is based on the concept of duality of vector spaces and duality theory for convex functions and subsets of a vector space. The purpose of this paper is to go beyond linear vector spaces using similar notions of duality in conformally flat Riemannian geometry and in idempotent algebra. An abstract idempotent analog of the Legendre transformation is constructed in a way similar to the polar transformation of the conformally flat Riemannian metric introduced in the works of E.D. Rodionov and V.V. Slavsky. Its capabilities for digital processing of signals and images are being investigated

Abstract:
The concept of porosity, developed by Walter Benjamin and Asja Lacis, is proposed as a useful concept for examining the political, social, and economic impacts of digital platform surveillance on social space. As a means of characterizing and comparing how interconnected spaces are shaped through a diversity of interfaces, porosity bypasses a simplistic distinction between analog and digital technologies without losing sight of the actual material affordances, social and surveillance practices, and politics that these differing and interacting technologies enable. As part of Benjamin’s project of uncovering the tension between the present and the utopian visions that capitalism repeatedly invokes through new technologies, an attention to the politics of porosity can situate the effects of digital platforms within the ongoing history of struggle over the production and experience of urban space.

Abstract:
The future of public libraries has been threatened by funding cuts and new digital technologies which have led many people to question their traditional role and purpose. However, freedom of information, ready access to knowledge and information literacy in all its digital and analog guises are more important than ever. Thus, public libraries remain significant spaces and places where people can socially interact and learn. In many countries public libraries are reinventing themselves and part of this process has been the redesign of library services and the design and construction of new library building and facilities that articulate the values, purpose and role of what has been termed ‘the next library'. Following discussion of new library developments in London, Birmingham and Worcester in the UK, Aarhus in Denmark and Helsinki in Finland, the article concludes that public libraries are now both social and media spaces as well as being important physical places that can help city dwellers decide what type of urban world they want to see.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article contributes to debates about how to respond to the changing profile of Higher Education (HE) students, and the marketisation of HE, by challenging prevailing views about student engagement, in order to develop learner-centric and inclusive pedagogies which are relevant to the twenty-first century. The concepts of ‘participatory culture’ and ‘co-creativity’ are often associated with the digital world in which the current generation of students have grown up. But it is a mistake to assume that some learning styles are inherently more participatory than others: participation is not an effect of the medium or form, (analog vs digital), or the space (actual vs virtual), or the mode of interaction a (face-to-face vs networked) through which the learner participates – it is an effect of the practices involved. Students engage with a complex network of both digital and analog texts and spaces, and it is this postdigital hybrid setting within which student engagement takes place. Marketisation provides an opportunity to actively demonstrate our commitments to student-centredness and inclusive practice, by transcending the binary opposition between ‘Student as Partner’ and ‘Student as Consumer’ and recognizing that students are learner-consumers, and allowing students’ diversity to drive innovation, rather than continuing to disempower students by bolstering practices which privilege some learning styles above others, informed by the assumption that innovation is technology-led.

Alignment of time series [time-series smoothing] identification of the main tendency of development (временнго a trend) by "cleaning" of a time series of the accidental deviations distorting this tendency. At a research of time series of economy (bioinformation science) apply for detection of patterns [1-3]. In this work it is offered to use for this purpose Legendre's transformation well-known in physics and mathematics. Its direct application to poorly regular objects is difficult therefore in work its idempotent analog is defined previously and on its basis the concept of the TRACK for a time series is defined. Abstract:
This article tackles an old, classical problem, which is acquiring a new epochal relevance with the techno-aesthetic processing of form and substance, expression and content. The field of digital architecture is embarked in the ancient controversy between the line and the curve, binary communication and fuzzy logic. Since the 1990s, the speculative qualities of digital architecture have exposed spatial design to the qualities of growing or breeding, rather than planning. However, such qualities still deploy the tension between discrete spaces and continual curving. In this context, the article suggests the computational coexistence of discrete coding with continual morphing, defying any easy resolution for an aesthetic of continuity or discontinuity, the superiority of the analog or the meta-logic of the digital. The metaphysical dimension of such coexistence needs to include the abstract capacities of experiencing the transition from one state to another as the registering of algorithmic processing. Computation is intrinsic to microperceptions, incomputable quantities deploying the infectious property of the digital code. The article draws on the digital architecture of Greg Lynn to explore whether the computational nature of the digital calculus has the potential to challenge the bifurcation between the biological and the mathematical, the physical and the mental.

This paper describes dual delay locked loop architecture with a mixed mode phase tuning method. The circuit accomplishes low jitter, unlimited phase shift in a large operating range, and accurate phase alignment with high resolution for relatively low input clock frequency. The architecture employs two DLL loops. The first one is digital and is used for generating coarsely spaced clock pulses, while the second is analog and is intended for accurate and precise fine phase shifting. Simulations show that this circuit has 2?r radians phase shift capability, and can resolve 25ps phase error at input clock frequency of 1MHz, using 1.2^m double-metal double-poly CMOS technology.

Abstract:
New communication protocols intended for large distances, including low orbit and deep space, can be inherently difficult to evaluate since trial implementations are often impractical. In order to accurately measure the performance of a new protocol, it is important to evaluate it in an environment that most closely matchs that in which it will be used. This thesis demonstrates the ability to emulate a space communications channel through digitizing a transmission centered at an intermediate frequency of 70 MHz with a bandwidth of 24 MHz, digitally introducing the characteristics of a transmission through space, and reconstructing the digital data to its analog counterpart. Delay, Doppler shift, Gaussian noise, and fading are among the most prevalent characteristics of such a channel, and thus were the focus of this thesis. Special care was given to the design of each digital and analog component to maintain the integrity of the original signal by minimizing all undesired noise introduced. The final design can accurately produce a given dynamic transmission signature or continually output a static set of channel characteristic parameters to test new communication protocols.

Abstract:
With the current demand for mixed-signal SoCs, an increasing number of designers are looking for ADC architectures that can be easily implemented over digital substrates. Since ADC performance is strongly dependent upon physical and electrical features, it gets more difficult for them to benefit from more recent technologies, where these features are more variable. This way, analog signal acquisition is not allowed to follow an evolutionary trend compatible with Moore’s Law. In fact, such trend shall get worst, since newer technologies are expected to have more variable characteristics. Also, for a matter of economy of scale, many times a mixed-signal SoC presents a good amount of idle processing power. In such systems it is advantageous to employ more costly digital signal processing provided that it allows a reduction in the analog area demanded or the use of less expensive analog blocks, able to cope with process variations and uncertainty. Besides the technological concerns, other factors that impact the cost of the design also advise to transfer problems from the analog to the digital domain whenever possible: design automation and self-test requirements, for instance. Recent surveys indicate that the total cost in designer hours for the analog blocks of a mixed-signal system can be up to three times the cost of the digital ones. This manuscript explores the concept of bottom-up analog acquisition design, using statistical sampling as a way to reduce the analog area demanded in the design of ADCs within mixed-signal systems. More particularly, it investigates the possibility of using digital modeling and digital compensation of non-idealities to ease the design of ADCs. The work is developed around three axes: the definition of target applications, the development of digital compensation algorithms and the exploration of architectural possibilities. New methods and architectures are defined and validated. The main notions behind the proposal are analyzed and it is shown that the approach is feasible, opening new paths of future research. Abstract:
For generations humans have strived to interpret the relationships between picture and sound. Is there a scientific connection between the lightwave-spectrum and the sound-frequency domain? Is it possible to experience both modalities at once? A fraction of the population can experience a symbiosis of these modalities, a union of the senses where the brain cross connects two or more, seemingly unrelated senses. This variation of sensory function is known as synesthesia. The rapid development in digital media has enabled this cross connection through numbers, creating a form of art where sound triggers or generates visual elements or vice versa. This bachelor thesis is aimed towards examining the relationship between picture, sound, bodily interaction and how we can weave these modalities together to create visual and sonic elements in real time in a natural and organic fashion through the concept of kinesonic interaction. We have through ethnographic observation, focus groups and questionnaires examined various functions which contributes to the sensation of embodied sound, retaining a natural feeling towards the body movements and visual cues. We’ve anchored our research, knowledge and decisions as designers in agential realism to present a framework which we suggest creates an intertwining multimodal experience where body, sound and picture meet.

Abstract:
Modern digital receivers need computationally demanding processes that leads to prohibitive complexity and power consumption. The idea of lending analog blocks for realization of digital algorithms can sometimes relaxes the complexity and high power consumption of digital receivers. The issue of analog approaches in digital receivers is studied in this dissertation by concentrating on two areas; analog decoding and front-end processing. For analog decoding, the realizations of some efficient decoders are presented along which our contribution in this area in conjunction with graph theory is proposed. In addition, analog realization of a fast Viterbi decoder is considered. It is shown that there is a very nice analog solution for realization of Add-Compare- Select that plays the central rule in Viterbi algorithm. In order to justify the proposed analog decoders, Cadence package is used. For front-end processing, a novel mixed-signal programmable filter is designed and investigated. The filter is suitable for high-rate communication systems. The proposed filter has analog input and analog sampled outputs. The filter is based on simple CMOS inverter and thus can be integrated efficiently with digital parts

Abstract:

Abstract:
There was a common use of instrument and control (I&C) system based on analog technology in design and construction of nuclear power plant built more than ten years ago. With the development and update of automation technology, digital control system has almost completely replaced the older generation technology in many areas of industry. For the nuclear power plant still using the analog I&C system, it caused the reduction of the production lines of related components and the lack of specified technical engineer. Along with the aging and obsolescence of analog technology equipment, the unsustainability of spares prompted the owners of nuclear power plant to implement modernization using digital technologies. Different from the design of digital control system in new nuclear power plant, the modernization project design is limited by the setting of the original system. Therefore, most owners adopt the function alternative strategy to implement the upgrading project. This strategy can effectively solve the problem of spares shortage, but it is difficult to fully elaborate the advantages of digital control system. Based on the technical characteristics of digital control system and the design experience derived from new nuclear power project construction, this paper puts forward the optimized design measures, under the limitation of the old power plant, to enhance the safety and economy of the nuclear power plant after final digital upgrading.

Abstract:
Abstract Stacked-die packaging was used to make an octal 20-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) converter by stacking two quad A/D converter die in a single 48-lead QFN (quad flat-pack, no leads) package. Reliability testing for product qualification initially failed only (biased) HAST test. Two failure mechanisms were identified. The first mechanism was silver ion migration at sensitive analog inputs due to high conductive die-attach fillets on the bottom die. The second mechanism was ILD delamination and passivation layer cracking due to spacer-attach stress on the surface of the bottom die. Electrical failure analysis was aided by a self test mode designed into the quad A/D converter. Package opening and other standard failure analysis techniques required some modification to accommodate the stacked-die package. This work points to critical stacked-die assembly steps, including conductive die-attach and nonconductive spacer-attach application, where effects of moisture, bias, and thermal stress must all be considered.
