ABSTRACT Projects involving deep geological disposal of nuclear waste are unique in that predictive models of long-term safety often involve geological timeframes. This manuscript provides a review of natural and anthropogenic analogues for high-level nuclear waste disposal in a deep geological repository. We also occasionally highlight analogues that have been used for low- and intermediate-level waste. Most studies define natural analogues as either naturally occurring or anthropogenic systems. In this paper, we distinguish between natural analogues and anthropogenic analogues because the la

It is by now well known that various condensed matter systems may be used to mimic many of the kinematic aspects of general relativity, and in particular of curved-spacetime quantum field theory. In this essay we will take a look at what would be needed to mimic a cosmological spacetime — to be precise a spatially flat FRW cosmology — in one of these analogue models. In order to do this one needs to build and control suitable time dependent systems. We discuss here two quite different ways to achieve this goal. One might rely on an explosion, physically mimicking the big bang by an outflow of

ABSTRACT Our Milky Way provides a unique test case for galaxy evolution models because of our privileged position within the Milky Way’s disc. This position also complicates comparisons between the Milky Way and external galaxies, due to our inability to observe the Milky Way from an external point of view. Milky Way analogue galaxies offer us a chance to bridge this divide by providing the external perspective that we otherwise lack. However, overprecise definitions of ‘analogue’ yield little-to-no galaxies, so it is vital to understand which selection criteria produce the most meaningful ana

QUATTRO-20 as advanced tool for estimation of the recurrent sequences was created and tested. Discrete analogue of Verhulst equation x(t+1)=F(x(t)), F(x)=rx(1-x), t=0, 1, 2, ..., was selected as the model of recurrent sequence. Related mathematical material is presented in user-friendly form: convergence conditions, Lyapunov index, behaviour of the sequencies generated by second, third, fourth compositions of function F(x). QUATTRO-20 contains several visualization methods such as xy plot, Bifurcation diagram, distribution of Lyapunov index, CobWeb plot, graphical solution. Novel graphical tec

Abstract:
We conducted an analysis of the learning aids used in the study of general technical disciplines. This allowed us to draw an analogy between physical and virtual models and justify the development of a mobile application to perform tasks on a projection drawing. They showed a technique for creating mobile applications for augmented reality. The main stages of the development of an augmented reality application are shown: the development of virtual models, the establishment of the Unity3D game engine, the development of a mobile application, testing and demonstration of work.
