Full textThis research aims to analyse the role of hedge fund (HF) activism in corporate governanceand French firms value creation. The reflections devoted the theory of governance haveenabled us to provide first elements to our central question. The exploratory study allowed usto determine a French model of HF activism. Our hypothetical-deductive approach enabledus to develop a typical profile of a target-listed firm and to examine the determinants of themarket reaction before measuring the effect of HF activism on value creation. The resultsshow that HF activism is causing new organizational equilibrium situations. However, it isopposed by the reluctance of the control coalition due to French governance and legalcontext. Hence, the exorbitant costs of activism in addition to entrenchment problems andinvestors wait-and-see attitude on the French market. As opposed to traditional investors, HFactivism appears as an efficient alternative control mechanism, where some shareholder andstakeholder governance mechanisms seem to be insufficiently disciplinary. Still, HF activismis unable to encourage the reluctant control coalition to act in the firms’ stakeholders’interest. In France, the controlling and family shareholders are opposed to HF activism. It ismore difficult for them to act as they do in American firms where capital is not locked. Thevalue creation is thus confined to managerial power over HF activism

Full textThe individual-project unit is at the heart of a dynamic entrepreneurial system, which in continuous interaction with its environment. To ensure its survival and development, the entrepreneur is regularly called upon to unite around him a network of actors that can power the system energy and resources it lacks. This research will address this question: In a complex and dynamic entrepreneurial situation, how an entrepreneur builds and develops its network in order to acquire the resources necessary for success and development of its innovative new venture? To answer this question, we mobilized the Actor Network Theory (Callon and Latour, 1986) as a methodology that guides our research. According to this theory, a successful innovation is not linked solely to the genius of an individual, nor the intrinsic value of its project, but it is primarily the result of an effort by a specific combination of actors (human and nonhuman), which meets around the entrepreneur and his project. By adopting a longitudinal methodology, we have followed over a period of two years, the networking dynamics of six innovative new venture projects. We paid particular attention to the role of technical artifacts in this work

Full textThe teenagers approached in this study are placed in a Social Youth Center. To extricate the adolescent from any negative representations he may feel or of which he is the object in this particular context, due both to this affectation and of a Weak parental authority, we apprehend him neither through experienced failures nor those reminded to him, but through his own personal resources. To achieve this, we invite him towards a progression through pictorial creation and the encounter of the art world, followed by a personal production of wide dimensions and its public exhibition. Photographies of works taken at each step of their realization, enables to follow and assess the process of their making and the progression of their creator. This study is completed by a focus towards understanding the personality of each youth through series of expression tests (Rey’s Figure, AT9 and Rorschach). The search for discernment and aesthetic judgment brings the adolescent to a necessary adjustment between his own individual world and other artistic sensibilities. From this confrontation emerge images which might stimulate and widen his capacity of expression and representation of experienced time, at the same time that they participate in a process of personal evolution

Innu is an Algonquian language spoken in Québec and Labrador by around 10 000 speakers. This thesis investigates the aspectual properties of the passive voice as well as the phenomenon of lexical passive, a subtype of passive that remains poorly documented in Algonquian languages. The case study carried out with this aim reveals that certain passive verbal forms in Innu can have either a dynamic or a stative/resultative semantics. This thesis explores forward the idea of considering stative/resultative forms as lexicalized passive forms in the language. Moreover, the study highlights a number of verbal forms related to passive and middle voice also found in other Algonquian languages. These forms are considered as lexical passives in this thesis. Appendices show the data of the case study study as well as a selection of passive sentences from the book Eukuan nin matshimanitu innu-iskueu (Kapesh, 1976). Appendices show also a selection of transitive passive verbal forms and a selection of verbal forms analyzed as lexical passives in this study. Those selection are all extracted from the Innu online dictionnary.

Full textThis thesis studies the participation of the individuel in durable employment relationships threatened by restructuring measures. It proposes a comprehensive analysis of the means and dynamics which support the individual's participation and performance in a context where the frame and the terms of the durable exchange were distorted and transformed. The thesis analyses the participation of the individuel using Marcel Mauss' gift and total social fact paradigm. The first part builds on this theoretical ground to develop an analytical frame for the study of the durable employment relationship. It shows how restructuring measures transform the procedures and the conditions of the participation of the individuel. This research is based on an ethnographic study which was carried out in France Telecom. The second part of the thesis describes the methodology and the results of this empirical investigation. Our results support the validity of the gift and total social fact paradigm to interpret and to understand the participation mecanisms in durable employment relationships. They show how a durable employment relationship raises flexibility resources for the firm

Full textFor a specific confidence region for the p parameters of a nonlinear regression model, one can define an optimal design criterion as the minimization of the expected volume of the region with respect to the experimental design in some experimental domain. When the observation errors are independently normally distributed, an exact confidence region is considered in order to define a new optimal design criterion called X-optimality. This new criterion is compared to the classic but approximative D-optimality criterion based on a model linearization. For both of these criteria independently a sufficient condition and a necessary condition, very close to each other, are developed for the optimality of the design of size n made of r₁, r₂, …, rp replications of the p points of the optimal design of size p with n = Epi=1ri. Simulations show that as far as efficiency and robustness are compared the X-optimal designs are better than the D-optimal ones more especially as – the model non linearity (quantified by several measures) is important. – the parametric domain is greater than the a priori confidence ellipsoid computed for the D-optimal design of same size

Full textThis work is aimed at being a basis for a specific method of measuring sponsorship effectiveness. It is focused on discovering the individual variables determining this effectiveness. A structural model, under a pls approcah, tests the incidence of personal values, of involvement and attitude toward the sponsored activity, and of attitude toward the association, on the attitude toward the sponsor, as a dependant variable. The concept of attitude toward the "association" (between the sponsor and the sponsored event) shows some interest as it demonstrates the message effectiveness. The other variables testes also have a noticeable influence on the dependant variable, and further research should lead to improve the various scales built or adapted here, which should in turn provide an easily adaptable tool for measuring sponsorship effectiveness

Full textThis dissertation is focused on the segmentation theory, as developed by economists and sociologists, from france and sweden, during the 1970s-80s. The discussion starts with michael j. Piore, and continues with the main researches included in what is called segmentation theory. Most writers have accepted the idea that labor markets are not independent of the way people live in the family. That's why the second chapter is concerned by cross-national comparisons about the family life, trying to precise the influence of family statuses, family functions on french and swedish labor markets. Finally, generation relationships are studied and this has lead to the idea that sociologists should give more attention to macrosocial generation-relationships than purely family-directed generation-relationships. To avoid a floating study, purely empirical, i have choosen to follow the aix-group theory, and a long chapter precises what are education, organization, industry-relationships (as well as labormarket policies ) in sweden, considering that it was not usefull to speak again of france, well described by the aix-group and his fellow-searchers. In this chapter, the cases of Volvo-Torslanda and Posten-Goteborg are examined. Oppositely, it was necessary to develop more the cases of Citroën-Rennes and "la poste" in Rennes that were not replaced in a societal analysis. Using these theories, and conscious of these structures, i have been able to state a typology of the young-blue-collar labor markets, as well as the white-collar and to precise the relationships between these segments (chapters 8 and 9 ). The conclusion comes back to the debate about segmentation, in a sociological point of view. What is a segment ? What is the relation between a social group and a segment ? What has changed since the first writings of Piore ?

Full textAbstractLinear regression is used in Market Research but faces difficulties due to multicollinearity. Other methods have been considered.A demonstration of the equality between lmg-Shapley and and Johnson methods for Variance Decomposition has been proposed. Also this research has shown that the decomposition proposed by Fabbris is not identical to those proposed by Genizi and Johnson, and that the CAR scores of two predictors do not equalize when their correlation tends towards 1. A new method, weifila (weighted first last) has been proposed and published in 2015.Also we have shown that permutation importance using Random Forest enables to take into account non linear relationships and deserves broader usage in Marketing Research.Regarding Bayesian Networks, there are multiple solutions available and expert driven restrictions and decisions support the recommendation to be careful in their usage and presentation, even if they allow to explore possible structures and make simulations. In the end, weifila or random forests are recommended instead of lmg-Shapley knowing that the benefit of structural and conceptual models should not be underestimated. Keywords :Linear regression, Variable Importance, Shapley Value, Random Forests, Bayesian Networks

Full textThe "technometric" study focusing on supraconductor materials significantly shows the more and more international nature of the phenomenon of patent. Great industrial nations such as the United-States and Japan get more and more inclined to project their techniques and new products overseas in order to create broader markets. The globalisation of technology - thus appearing with superconductivity - espresses multiple and complex realities which seemingly have to be managed. Apparently the Japanese industrial strategy is to cover the whole industrial field while focusing the means of action on some essential poles. The american indutrial strategy aims keeping a worldwide leadership, which she thinks is on the way to escape her. Japan appears like a country where technology originates while a very creative country such the United-States loses ground. This expresses a tendency to a levelling between both countries. This research shows that ago-antagonism approach prevails in the supraconductor materials industry. In fact the actors are seeking for a balance between competition and cooperation to cope with the specificities of the field concerned

Full textOne of the most striking facts of the history of the financial system is the process of liberalization begun since 1994. A reform of such a dimension is not fortuitous. It aims mainly at the security (by a better treatment of the risk) and a fairer competition (by a bigger transparency). The objective of this work is to test the impact of this movement on the performance of the Tunisian deposit banks. Indeed, it is allowed to wonder if the intensification of the competition limits the increase of the banking performances in terms of business volume, profitability or value creation. Besides, are growth, value creation, financial profitability and solvency compatible objectives within this new space? What strategies did banks implement to adapt ?This thesis examines the measures of performance the most adapted to the Tunisian banks, shows the impact of these reforms on these indicators, analyzes groups of banks that excel at one or some of the categories of performance, and, finally, tracks down the new strategies which stand out from this vast process of development, yet, not totally finished

Full textThe place occupied by human resources in the managerial and strategic thinking raises various questions about the management of organizations and their capacity to create value and gain competitive advantages based on these resources. Our interest to study the managerial level, the contribution of intangible and more specifically the human capital to create value for firms, has helped to raise the resolution of the problem follows: Can we determine the nature of the contribution of human capital to create value for the firm? This concept of value, popularized in the business world, has expanded to multiple dimensions. It was interested in translating the relationship between human capital value creation economic, social and institutional, created by the accounting firm and management consulting in Tunisia. The main results from the survey validate that: - Human capital is defined through three time horizons: past, present, future and is dependent respectively: the accumulation (knowledge + experience), recovery of the acquis (curent) and development (recycling + reactivity). It was thus determine an indicator of human capital ICH based on these three variables. - The assumption that the creation of value is dependent on three core values economic, social and institutional, has been validated through the construction of an indicator of value creation IV. - Human capital is clear, empirically, as a factor in value creation. This gives us the opportunity to join the various writings analyzed, which are mainly derived from the theory of natural resources, and demonstrate the true role of human resources in Our organizations

Full textThe objective of this thesis is to analyse the impact of asymmetric information on agents' relationships. The two first chapters address the question of financing risky projects under both moral hazard and adverse selection, when the lenders are competing banks or a monopolist. The main result is that market power strengthens rationing when is not observable. The third chapter proposes both a theoretical and emperical analysis of microfinance institutions credit delivery system. We show that whenever borrowers have no initial wealth, lenders have no other choice than screening them ex ante. The empirical analysis on institutions in Bangladesh supports our theoretical results. The last chapter gives an explanation for the reform of the competition policy in Europe. When the accuracy of evaluation of the competition authority is sufficiently high, it is possible, using fines in the ex post control, to deter the signature of harmful agreements

Full textThe purpose of this research is to understand the social processes in the development of the company studied, through the analysis of the projects which are described as working situations built by a group whose approach is focused on a determinated target in direct connections with the company's growth. A conceptual and methodological approach is elaborated to present those evolutionary situations. The projects are thus treated as processes through links with actors' logics, types of working organizations and global regulations. Social properties of such interaction systems, which are based upon anticipation can hardly be presented without historical analysis of the construction of this company. It brings up new types of projects enhancing expertise as an essential point of the company's growth. Both the organisation and the actor's identity dynamics are strongly put together in the projects. A logic between both movements can be observed through a system of rules for the former and in the expression of action motives for the latter. The organisation of the projects finally has to be understood as a process whose evolution is determinated according to the finality types of action. By building a progressive formalization work of rules and knowledge in a situation filled with generalized uncertainties, these actors have experienced a deep difference with the stable and repetitive working situations they knew before. It is the actors' commitment in the complex regulations as well as the construction of the project's meaning which brings up values admist action. As a social experience, the project allows an identity coherence reconstitution for every actor through his distancing from the dominant legitimity

Full textTo adapt to ever more frequent disruptions in their environment, incumbent firms resort increasingly to Business Model Innovation. Our study seeks to identify the success factors of BMI process and the new business model performance. To that end, we performed two analysis on 35 cases, using the Qualitative Comparative Analysis method, which allows configurational study of factors identified both from our literature review and our cases study. The first studied focuses on the success of Business Model Innovation process, that is the implementation of a new business model in the firm; the second study focuses on the performance of said new business model. A third analysis focuses specifically on the failure cases regarding new business model performance. From these analysis, we identified several causal configurations, which allowed to take into account the complexity and diversity of contexts and processes of BMI.Our analyses highlighted three main results. The first is that internal stakeholders commitment (leaders, employees and shareholders) is essential to the success of BMI and the performance of the new business model. The second result shows that an incremental BMI is easier to execute (and thus to achieve), it brings a higher risk of counter-performance for the new business model. The third result shows that conducting a reactive BMI, which means that the BMI is a response to an imminent threat on the industry and its dominant business model, brings a significative risk of failure for the new business model. Our results allow us to clarify and nuance the existing literature on BMI, but also to communicate to incumbent firms a set of choices to lead their own BMI to the best outcome possible. Our work also highlight the potential of the QCA method, which is yet seldom employed in the management field

We present here an analysis, in a sociological way, of these mental impressions. From the data we got through the latter analysis, we organized our results and compared them with data and results we obtained from the observation of the common and domestic life. At last, questionning the two parts of our study, we can define our new manners of thinking, of acting, and simply of being, as Emile Durkheim did two hundred years ago

Full textSince the early twentieth century, natural outdoor and adventure settings have been used in education and psychosocial intervention (Gass, Gillis, & Russell, 2012; Miles & Priest, 1999; Russell & Hendee, 2000; Tucker & Norton, 2013). Predominantly utilized by groups with educational and therapeutic aims, some effects on individuals taking part in those programs with personal and interpersonal plans have been reported, notably on selfperception (Whittington, 2006), self-efficacy (Ronalds & Allen-Craig, 2008; Török, Kökönyei, Károlyi, Ittzés, & Tomcsányi, 2006), social skills and leadership (Sibthorp, 2003; Stott & Hall, 2003). These effects demonstrate the relevance of this type of intervention. Certain underlying elements of reported effects have been identified, such as the importance of the group in the experience of participants (Deane & Harré, 2014; Scheinfeld, Rochlen, & Buser, 2011), but there is much left to be understood about the group’s place in natural outdoor and adventure experiences. Considered to allow in-depth examination of operating processes in groups, the Helping Factors model developed by Yalom et Leszcz (2005) provides a conceptual framework that is open to possibility. Defining the processes acting within a group as underlying the individual benefits taken away by members, this conceptual framework permits an understanding of what participants encounter in experiences in natural outdoor and adventure settings. Conducted with 23 college students, this qualitative research aims to identify the active Helping Factors in an educational program that takes place in natural outdoor and adventure settings. This general objective can be broken down into two specific objectives: 1) To identify which Helping Factors emerge in group interventions in experiences in natural outdoor and adventure settings; and (2) to determine their relative importance, according to the perspectives of the participants. The results obtained demonstrate a strong presence of the majority of the Helping Factors proposed by Yalom and Leszcz (2005). Interpersonal Learning, Development of Socializing Techniques and Cohesiveness are found to be among the most important. Secondarily, Altruism, Imitative Behavior and Imparting Information are found. Of lesser importance are Corrective Recapitulation of the Primary Family Group, Catharsis, Hope and Existential Factors. The relative importance of different Helping Factors could be attributable to the educational nature of the group and the absence of problems experienced by the participants. The results equally indicate that the fact of being in nature, of carrying out activities that require personal coping strategies and experimenting with challenge and success through risk-taking have a catalytic effect on the occurrence of Helping Factors. These results resonate with elements that are already recognized in programs implemented in the context of natural outdoor and adventure settings, such as experimenting with challenge and success through risk-taking, adaptive dissonance and the relationships between stakeholders and members of the group (McKenzie, 2003; Panicucci, 2007; Priest, 1999a; Russell & Phillips-Miller, 2002). The choice of Helping Factors as an analytical framework brings new light to the central position that the group occupies in interventions in natural outdoor and adventure settings. In this sense, the results of this thesis are breaking new ground. Within the literature, few links have been made between Helping Factors and interventions in natural outdoor and adventure settings (Gass et al., 2012; Williams, 2000). Furthermore, studies on Helping Factors have been predominantly carried out in traditional intervention environments and with clinical and adult populations (Shechtman, 2003; Shechtman, Bar-el, & Hadar, 1997; Yalom & Leszcz, 2005), whereas this doctoral study focuses on young adults in natural outdoor and adventure settings. This thesis demonstrates that Helping Factors can occur within different conditions, pointing to possible future avenues of research in social work.
