The dissertation has been built along three main lines : - the analysis of the situations in which the corpus was produced, in which particular stress has been put on the appearence of the + praxeme ; Khuyen nong (agricultural encouragement), considered to serve as a vehicle for the new problematics of agricultural vulgarization in Vietnam, a problematics in which farmers play an important part. - the analysis of the enunciative production of the three films, the makings of which are considered to be + seductive ; strategies, which are components of any discourse of vulgarization. - the analysis of the explicit markers of didacticity, which can be traced on the surface of texts and which aim to facilitate the transmission of agricultural skills and to stimulate the target public into using such skills

Full textIt is during the research for information about terms of construction in Vietnamese for the French courses of speciality that we noticed a lack of terminographiques resources. This situation thus brought to us in a study concerning the description of the vocabulary and the value of the used terms in the terminological practice of the domain. We decided to bend over terms used in standards concerning the building materials which are references in all the applications of the domain of the construction. We shall present first of all the various terminological approaches to build the files of the terms. And then, we shall explain the adoption of the approach socioterminologique as the approach which suits us better for the choice of the terms and also for their analysis in their lexical relations. The terms are taken considering the point of view of their formation, their meanings, their evolution and their uses in the professional speeches. We shall focus then our work on problem of archive, the technical popularization and especially on the terminological equipment in Vietnam. Our hypotheses will be then tested by semi-directive interview with experts of the domain. Our final goal is to produce a resource online socioterminographique intended for the engineers in civil engineering. We shall be interested in last one left to the harmonization of the uses of the terminology of the construction to Vietnam in which there is no unification in the terminological use of references

Part one is a critical reading of the various approaches to interaction (sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, ehtnomethodology, etc. . . ). Part two deals with basic concept identitfication in two fields: enunciation and pragmatics. Part three presents the conceptual framework, and definies communication as the result of the different constraints which lead to a contrat of specific exchanges. Finally, part four is concerned with three levels of analysis: the ritual (participation frequency, turn-taking systems, and communicative roles); the structure of interaction( in sequences, sub-sequences, exchange and intervention), and the discursive (speech-acts, interlocutionary framework, the openings closingq, and the discursive strategies). Full textThe confrontation of the private war-correspondences of two meridionals (1914-1918) with publisched letters from the same period lays the stress on the differences that appear both in the lexical fields of vocabulary wich structurize the representation of the event as well as in the use of the pronominal system. The lexicals field, for the meridionals, deals with banal daily life and not the hostile environment of the front correspond to that of the arms and the heroic battle in the published texts. The analysis of the personal pronouns allows to distinguish the social groups and the categories of protagonists in the correspondences, wich are extremely different wether the letters have been published or not. The study of means of calling that adversary focuses the "mots-chocs" hich includenegative of neutral connotations in public speech. Variation can be noticed in private written works : these connotations are negative, positive or neutral. Another field of this research scrutinizes the more "coded" aspect of the letters. As a correlary of the identity system and of the impact of the speech, the "cliches" have not an expressive part alone, in the stylistic meaning of the term : they play a part in the mechanisms of persuasion wich affect the reader's representations, his beliefs an even his behaviour. From the point of view of sociolinguistic, the study of the main variations of non standard aspect of the letters of the men from the south of france, who have passed the "certificat d'etudes primaires", shows the limited part of the influence of the "substrat" on their production. Most of traits are not continuity of the dialect, they are a substitute to old weak elements of the french language. The gaps are less numerous and less rich than those can be found in the oral language of the south. The narrative is a true filter for the variations. The "substrat" language plays no part in the indentity position of the letters-writers

Full textThis research deals with the linguistic representations of students from Souk-ahras, an Algerian inland town where several languages compete. Some are appreciated, but symbolically rejected; others are disparaged, but enjoy positive representations. Relying on praxematic linguistics in analyzing the corpus collected from interviews, the author attempted to understand the reasons for this fluctuation of representations. It was assumed that attachment to the languages of instruction (such as French or standard Arabic) was closely linked to the professional future of interviewed persons. The approach adopted to confirm this hypothesis led the author to the delimitation of reality into several areas – “personal life”, “professional life”, and “cultural life” - likely to induce the variation of the representation of languages. This fragmentation of “everyday life” emphasized “space-times in the precise reference discourse” that energize the diglossic intensity among languages and thus determine the positive or negative polarity of a linguistic representation. The analysis of this corpus highlights an initial reflection on the sociolinguistic situation of Algeria’s internal areas. The obtained results may constitute a basis for the development of more adapted and “realistic” school and university curricula

Full textThis thesis provides a sociolinguistic analysis of Norwegian contemporary language practices among 41 adolescents all raised in multilingual and multicultural environments in the Eastern parts of Oslo. Based on a series of examples from the UPUS-Project (Utviklingsprosesser i urbane språkmiljø – Linguistic Development in Urban Environments), this work discusses social and individual motivations which lead speakers to use innovative lexical (including non-European loan words) and syntactic features in Norwegian. We argue that heterogeneous features do not result from a lack of language skills but rather are a part of a speech style thatspeakers activate depending on discursive settings. We also take into account the social and historical dimensions of Oslo in order to contextualize the language practices and to demonstrate how speakers during the life stage of adolescence make themselves heard on the local and global society. We suggest that this new speech style is not restricted to Oslo and adolescents speakers, but rather is a common resource for whoever wants to show solidarity toward the contemporary urban reality

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to investigate the discursive and interactive functioning of business meetings. Recourse is had to a number of different disciplines, since the practices and discursive activities instantiated in this genre are interwoven into a variety of specific communicative situations and working contexts. This study focuses in particular on the correlations between the participants' communicative practices and the extralinguistic factors impinging on business meetings. In particular, calling on a corpus consisting of transcriptions of forty hours of sound recordings containing 331,000 words, it sets out to identify those communicative practices which contribute to the collaborative construction of discourse by participants. Full textThis research is based on a corpus of French language test paperworks written by first year students in Humanities at the University of Rouen. We question the link between linguistic heterogeneity, social heterogeneity and university failure. Linguistic variation is studied at both scales: quantitative and qualitative. The qualitative one takes into account questions about otherness and communicative competence. We put forward the notion of "competence sociolangagière". In the second part, the diversity of students representations is measured. This analysis is based on the results of a survey conducted by questionnaires and the results of interviews. Once again, we questioned the variation dimension through the social characteristics of students. Our results allowed us to describe the nature of the link between linguistic heterogeneity, social heterogeneity, students representations and students faculty to succeed, fail or give up university at the end of the academic year

Full textThe objective of this doctoral dissertation is to bring together the different ideas of “style,” as employed in linguistics and sociology. Its intention is to shed light on the role that the linguist can play in understanding social phenomena. To do so, my interview-based investigation constitutes a large and various study, making possible an analysis of diverse social and discursive styles. To this effect, I’ve employed the concept of “style,” originally confined to writing, but which currently has an extensive use. I distinguish two recurrent meanings, the aesthetic and pragmatic, from which I propose my own definition applicable to oral language productions. The sociological concept of “life style” constitutes a central element of this work. This concept defines life style as based on the free choice of individuals. I interrogate the relationship between direct discourse and style envisioned from a sociological point of view (a “vector” of style) or a linguistic perspective (a stylistic process). Moreover, I analyze “preformed” or “prefabricated” language structures whose use is deployed as a direct discourse from a stylistic process, for it is the speaker who can freely choose this mode of expression. This dissertation thus argues for a better understanding of language phenomena through sociology, in particular thatof life styles. The linguist contributes also to human understanding while being a speaker and social actor

Full textSince the beginning of the XXIst century, the SMS practice questions the use of traditional linguistics norms in daily writings. According to the history of writing, its rapid growth as a prefered practice in interpersonal communication refers to questions about the dissemination of any emergent practice: how people use-it? In which way does a support such as a mobile phone influence the way of spelling? Could the writings depend on the age, gender, place of residency, education level or experience of SMS? Does SMS writing have homogeneous characteristics? Is-it related to the oral language? Can it be the cradle of the evolutions of written language? By manual analysis of linguistic of more than 10,000 authentic SMS in French, from corpora collected in Belgium, Reunion Island, Switzerland, Quebec and southern France, this study shows that SMS writing is aimed at personal appropriation of the graphic code, without orthographic standard systematically suffering. It shows that SMS writing reveals everyone’s identity, in terms of their relationship to writing and ability to adapt the discourse. This research also indicates that SMS writing can sometimes present caracteristics that account for the existence of a strong link between graphic code and cognitive oralisation of a message

Full textAs a title of civility reserved for the single women, the use of miss is considered as being a matter of an eminently sexist use according to some, flattering according to others. In front of the question “madam or miss?”, it happens more and more that the contemporary French speakers adopt an avoidance behavior and favor “zero term of address” Kerbrat-Orecchioni (2005), or choose to use other forms such as fille, jeune fille, nana, meuf, even miss, the word borrowed from English, in order to replace mademoiselle. In the present research, in support of the data collecting from diverse communication situations in Lyon in 2014 which were aroused and presented in an unpublished questionnaire, we study the contemporary uses of miss and its enunciative substitutes, in order to understand in which kind of situation the use of miss can arouse debates. Is it about inappropriate uses in given contexts, or about misunderstandings on semantics of the term between the participants of communication. As regards its enunciative substitutes, how do they distinguish themselves from miss at the semantic, morphosyntactic levels as well as pragmatic? Analyses lead us to confirm the social representativeness of the terms of address as they are revealing social links, the choice of the terms keeping forced by the situation in which the interaction takes place

Full textThis research takes interest in the image brought up by the word “Europe” since the Treaty of Maastricht and in the way the building of the European community contributes to the evolution of attitudes of the French population and to the changes in the perception of the word “Europe” itself. The analysis is carried out on a documentary corpus (book titles and press articles) and is focused on the strong vocabulary tendencies of factual main lines in recent EU history: signature of the Treaties of Maastricht and Amsterdam and the fifth EU enlargement. Most results from this analysis are compared with data issued from the ethno-sociocultural survey. This allows us to discover to what extent the images carried by the media find their place in the people’s discourse production and to observe the dialogical dimension of the discourse. The linguistic study connected to the social and historic context makes us understand how discourse is being built and how it interacts with other discourses about the same subject. The automatic reading we used enabled us to collect the information about the vocabulary distribution and its syntagmatic dimension that were used as an interpretative support for the study of the image of Europe. The statistical analyses of lexical forms and surroundings of the word “Europe” as well as their validation in context allowed us to look closely at mental associations and images linked to this “rigid designation” and to reveal some referential values related to socio-political and cultural aspects of Europe

Full textOverlapping the (inter)disciplinary fields of urban sociolinguistics and discourse analysis, this dissertation displays the glocal domination phenomena in Rennes, and in France, in discourses focusing on persons hetero- or self-designated by their mobility or “origins”. The research thus examines a variety of discursive points of view on the city ; yet, all of them seem to reveal a domination phenomena – a process linked, in urban sociolinguistics, to the hierarchization of persons and languages on a given territory – in discourses on migration, or in other words, in hegemonic discourses on mobility.Our research divides into two parts. First, it consists in an analysis of current political media discourses on migration and “migrants”, by a lexicometric analysis of a corpus composed of national, regional and local press articles. Secondly, we analyze how and why these discourses are reproduces, criticized, questioned or ignored, and how are dominant categories reproduced or left behind. We study how frontiers are reproduced in the city when the “legitimacy” of the presence of persons perceived as “migrants” is debated. This second aspect of our work, relies on participant observations and semi-directed interviews in the context of a community and participative project

Full textThis study falls in the theoretical framework of enunciation involving sociolinguistic and communicative aspects. It is a crossover field of linguistics with that of information science, sociology and anthropology. It focuses on media communication, particularly the issue of responsibility in news writing. The analysis relates more specifically to the facts of language (reported speech) in news writing and the impact it can have on the position of the reporting person. This is an analysis of linguistic forms of subjectivity in journalistic texts, the aim being to identify to what extent the form of reported speech shapes the point of view of the journalist utterer. The task is about distinguishing, through texts that can be said to be objective journalistic pieces of writing that meet the requirements of ethics, the mechanisms by which viewpoints are expressed and leading to subjective points of views. Transversally, the analysis provides answers to two key questions: what does subjective mean? How is this concept applied in reported speech with respect to miscellaneous events related in Senegalese daily newspapers? Given its sociolinguistic, communicative and interactional dimensions, the analysis focuses on three main areas: the speaking subject (research on evaluative, axiological and socio-emotional traces of its presence), the content (morphosyntactic and semantic exploration) and the media communication contract (media production device)

Full textThe displacements in the urban space and the expression of these displacements are related to the geographical and social reality of cities, to cultural and linguistic data. This is why a multidisciplinary framework borrowing from psychosociology of space, linguistics and discourse analysis is necessary to tackle them. Our field of study is the city of Khartoum in Sudan and the city of Besançonin France and the languages concerned are Arabic and French because academic and university relations unite these two linguistic and cultural universes. In a comparative perspective of analysis of discourse and representations, we have created oral corpus of different genres in Arabic and French from several methodological approaches : answers to a questionnaire, retrospective micro-narratives of itinerary, communications of pedestrian itinerary. We specified the geographic, historical and sociolinguistic context of the study and we analyzed our corpus of different points of view: a psychocultural and psycho-cognitive angle on representations and mental images of cities, a linguistic angle (semantic and syntactical) on displacement verbs in Arabic and French, a discursive angle on itinerary descriptions and we completed our analysis with our experience in Khartoum.The results of the corpus analysis shed light on the diversity of the expressions of displacement and showed some phenomena that are attached to them. In fact, this study confirms, for example, that people belonging to the same group have an identical collective image of urban space, that in itinerary communications, sequential itineraries dominate over general indications. Regarding the representations of the capital Khartoum they are rather positive among the Sudanese we interviewed and most of them have strong feelings of belonging to their village or city of origin. By describing their displacements, the speakers favor medial polarity verbs and enunciative erasure

Full textThis research problematizes and questions empirically the theoretical concept of spatiolinguistic justice, developed in French urban sociolinguistics. This term spatiolinguistic justice, inspired from spatial justice as used in critical geography and urban studies, requires that the researcher inquire his own political theorization behind his use of terms such as “inequality” “discrimination” “exploitation” and “segregation”, terms that are often considered as observed “realities” rather than as discursively constructed. Spatiolinguistic justice also allows the researcher to examine the diversity of approaches to justice as expressed by participants in ethnographic research, and the way justice and injustice are discursively institutionalized through language practices. In this thesis, spatiolinguistic justice is investigated through community action and organization in Verdun (a borough of Montreal) in Quebec. Adopting a (mainly) Marxian perspective to problematize institutions, ideology/ideologies and subjects, the purpose of this study is to examine the way capitalist urban space and neoliberal governmentality affect community organizing actors and their discourse. Weaving together theorization in urban sociolinguistics, social linguistics, critical sociolinguistics and political sociolinguistics, this study approaches spatiolinguistic justice and injustice through the analysis of discourse on spatial transformation and through social and sociolinguistics territorialisation. This is done through a lexical entry method to discourse analysis but also through the study of the participants’ counter-interpelling “discourse acts”, “discursive scenography”, “reported speech” and other approaches to critical analysis of language practices

Full textThis doctoral dissertation studying the use of French regionalisms, or diatopicisms, in literature, is situated in the fields of variationist linguistics and of discourse analysis. The study offers a detailed description of the concepts and current terminology in the recent discipline of Francophone differential linguistics as well as in the related branches of French discourse analysis. It pays particular attention to the methods applied in the identification of diatopic elements and the interpretation of existing sources – completed by field studies conducted by the author – as well as for an appropriate discourse analysis of diatopicisms in literature. Developing a new sociopragmatic paradigm, the author analyses the strategies that present meta-linguistically highlighted diatopicisms and their textual distribution in order to interpret what these procedures say obliquely about the diatopicisms in terms of their pragmatic and sociolinguistic characteristics. The large corpus analysis is presented in the form of dictionary articles, based on a model developed in French differential lexicography, and enriched by sociopragmatic sections. The author analyses all highlighted diatopicisms in the twenty-six popular novels of Yves Viollier which belong to the latter's sociolinguistic community (Vendée). The study shows that the strategies highlighting diatopicisms in the analysed novels – published from 1972 to 2009, realist and partly regionalist – are relatively rare. Full textStarting from a tripartite theoretical context, including sociological, sociodiscursive, and analytical aspects, this dissertation relies on the concurrent and complementary use of four textual analysis software packages, as well as discourse analysis. Its originality lies in its bidisciplinary nature, drawing from the fields of sociology and the language sciences. The main hypothesis is that changes in social organization resulting from the establishment of European institutions influence discourse and trade union identity. A diachronic analysis shows the relationship of French trade unions to the European reality. The corpus of over one million words is derived from the work of the research team of Maurice Tournier at the École normale supérieure in St-Cloud undertaken during the 1980’s and from contemporary texts which are all drawn from the congresses of four French trade unions: CFDT, CFTC, CGT, CGT-FO. The corpora are partitioned according to confederation and as a function of time period. The hypotheses posited at the beginning, of a lexical, semantic, or specific nature, concern the expression of identity in trade union discourse, and they suppose lexical changes. The initial results did not necessarily support them, but the analytical posture adopted has allowed a partial verification of them. The European issue does not occupy the whole space of profession and class relations in France. The trade union movement delegates its right of representation and negotiation at the European level to the ETUC. The identity question that emerges at the level of discourse from 1945 to 1960 is primarily of a national nature. What follows is a pursuit of self-definition that favours the emerges of a European identity

Full textThis thesis sets out to describe and to analyse the discourse markers (DMs) là, par exemple, ékyé and wèé in Cameroon French, a regional variety of French that is spoken in Subsharan Africa. It is a pragmatic study of oral discourses that highlights how communication is based on speech inter-subjectivity such as DMs, which constitute linguistic traces. In order to study these uninvestigated pragmatic phenomena in Cameroon spoken French, three notions were of prime necessity, namely: discursive continuity, social implicity and interaction. These notions help to shed light on the informational structure and on the situational context of the DMs là, par exemple, ékyé and wèé in discourse organization as well as in its production or in its reception. The data of this study was got from two sources: on the one hand, radio programmes, and on the other hand, scripts collected from the internet. The study comprises two parts: Part one focuses on the theoretical concerns, alongside some illustrations of excerpts from the data. The second part provides a systematic analysis of the data (the functioning of the four DMs là, par exemple, ékyé and wèé in radio programmes and in internet scripts). This analysis enabled the confirmation that not only is it difficult to clearly define what a DM is but that there are also several competing terms and explanations, as theories regarding studies on DMs are heterogeneous. We propose an operational definition of DMs for the analysis of the data and suggest that studies on regional French spoken in Africa should take into account oral phenomena related to interaction

Full textThe Creole and French languages are in close contact in Martinique, Creole being the main mark of identity. For our sociolinguistic field study declarations of "lower" class mothers were collected. In order to approach the discourse attitude representation identity system which interacts with the real behaviour of the speakers, a discourse analysis was carried out. Our results show that the ideology of conflict is more and more replaced by a pragmatic perception of the whole linguistic capital offered by martinique's specific bilingualism (diglossia). Social valorizaion of Creole and mastery of French progress simultaneously. The competence of communication is linked to the complexity of the Creole identity : this is expressed by a hybrid linguistic performance transcending grammatical boundaries. The omnipresence of Creole is supposed to make its acquisition very easy, that is why mothers present French as the target language in the process of socialization of their children (sociolinguistic rule). This attitude favours bilingualism, success at school and social mobility. The appropriation of two mother tongues appears in children's responses. Nonetheless, most intellectuals and ideologists consider Creole to be the only native language of the mass

Full textThis thesis studies the relationships between non-standard online writing practices and gender on the American community website Reddit. It is based on a corpus of nearly 20 million tokens which contains the comments written in English by 1,044 internet users, including 300 transgender and non-binary people. Using an intersectional sociolinguistic approach, it examines the interaction of gender with age and ethnicity. Eleven non-standard variables were investigated: six additive processes (emoticons, emojis, letter lengthenings, punctuation lengthenings, all caps and interjections) and five reduction processes (abbreviations, phonetic spellings, g-droppings, apostrophe omissions and lower case spellings of the pronoun “I”). In addition to these linguistic analyses, the thesis explores how Internet users construct their virtual identities and occupy the Reddit space, by focusing on the most visible markers of Redditors' activity in the community: pseudonyms, interests, “karma”, longevity of the accounts and forum moderation. The analyses, which are mainly based on the multiple regression method, provide a nuanced account of the way Redditors use non-standard language to index their gender identity. They show, in particular, that transgender women and men rarely align with cisgender women and men. They also suggest that Hispanic and African-American women play a major role in the spread of non-standard spelling and typography

Full textThis research work deals with the survey of the language used by young diggers (aged from 1 7 to 20) of the public dump of Antananarivo. It aims at exarnining the motivations that induce the lexical and linguistic choices in their own description and viewpoints of the conditions in which they live. lts main interest is to determine the way this language of marginalized young people convey emotions and different kinds of sentiments concerning various issues, including education, tradition and beliefs, socio-affective links, etc. A gender based lexical survey is also carried out with a view to contributing to the description of the current sociolinguistic situation of Madagascar. On the other hand, a study of shared social and cultural values and representations conveyed by this langage is conducted to examine influencing factors of the young dump diggers'behaviours and personalities. For instance, sometimes the complex relationship between tutelary authority and tsiny (common waming and censorship) is viewed as a positive concept encouraging persona! development and sometimes it is thought to be the cause of , marginalized young people's behavioural inhibition or excessive caution, as regards· their wishes for self-emancipation or social and professional integration. The opposing symbolic and psycbological or socio-identitary values of the public dump and the friendly or bannonic social integration territory, that the community represents, are studied in order to bring out elues as food for thought in order to set up social and professional integration polkies in favour of marginalized young people

Full textClose to socio-anthropology, the field of pragma-linguistics provides a concrete and fructuous way of developing interdisciplinarian approaches which can seriously contribute to a better understanding between German and French in specific domains of continous interactions such as organizations and business corporations. The interlingual comparison, focused on german and French, is based on different types of economic and juridical texts which have been described under functional and intentional aspects. The comparative study tends to determinate a relation of causality between the extra-linguistic factors and the micro-linguistic features which can be observed in the selected discourses of controversy. The first study purpose consists in categorizing and identifying the objects of struggle in the environmental conditions in which they occur. The detection and description of the functional, textual and structural characteristics are the result of a systemical and hierarchical approach of organizational oppositions in the industrial world. Conflictive actions or processes (series of actions) appear to be functional units that are divided and interdependent at the same time. They also depend on the strong dynamical nature of the oppositional context. After being categorized in acts and microacts, the microlinguistical features have been analysed semantic, morphologic and syntagmatic levels, and organized as well as classified in a bilingual glossary. The functional and onomasiological qualities of the glossary contribute to emphasize the recurrent german and French behaviours in the most common speech acts that aim at dealing with socio-economic discrepancies

Full textThe French language co-exists with a multitude of languages in Cameroon, and exists in especially diverse speech contexts in the major Cameroonian cities of Douala and Yaoundé. . The purpose of this study is to explore this situation, integrating field survey methods (with the goal of producing an ecological corpus), sociolinguistic observations and syntactical analysis in a unified approach. This approach is guided by the particular attention to emic categories as they emerge from the practices of speakers. The reflexive analysis of fieldwork practices allows us to consider speech as discourse within situated interactional activities, which act as the base of the corpus’ construction, and to support sociolinguistic observations of discourse dynamics. In this perspective, analysis of reported speech (RS, designating the representation of discours autre discourse of an ‘other’) is based on the interpretation of contextualization clues, and allows us to consider reported speech as a discursive strategy. Taking a syntactical approach to contextualisation clues, this study reveals the process of reappropriation of the structure of RS (as a linguistic form) for interactional purposes

Dabei sollen die Ergebnisse der praktischen Feldforschung (welche zur Erstellung eines ökologisch validen Korpus führte) mit soziolinguistischen Überlegungen und syntaktischen Analysen in einem Ansatz vereint werden. Bei diesem Ansatz liegt das Augenmerk stets auf den emischen Kategorien, die aus den Praktiken der Sprecher hervorgehen. Die reflexive Analyse der Feldforschungspraktiken ermöglicht Diskursanalysen situierter interaktioneller Aktivitäten, die auch zur Erstellung des Korpus verwendet wurden, und hilft, soziolinguistische Überlegungen auf Basis diskursiver Dynamiken aufzubauen. So kann die Redewiedergabe auf Grundlage der Interpretation von Kontextualisierungshinweisen analysiert und als diskursive Strategie betrachtet werden. Die syntaktische Analyse der Kontextualisierungshinweise ermöglicht Einsichten in Prozesse, welche die Strukturen der Redewiedergabe für interaktionelle Zwecke aufgreifen

Full textOver the past few years, with a view to opening up to the world, Saudi Arabia has been developing the learning of foreign languages in its educational system. This openness is also reflected in the possibility offered to the children of expatriates (diplomats or students) to be educated in Saudi institutions abroad, such as the Saudi school in Paris. The aim of this research is, precisely, to focus on the multilingualism of Saudi children attending this school. The latter, who therefore live in France, are in contact with three languages: i) Arabic (L1), first and family language, taught in school; ii) English (L2), the first foreign language taught in schools and used by some families; iii) French (L2 / L3), a second foreign language, also taught in schools and language of the dominant environment elsewhere (France). To assess the language abilities of these children, we used the textless picture book Frog, where are you? (Mayer, 1969). Two aspects of narratives, the overall plotline (study of thematic continuity) and temporality (use of verbal tenses), were analyzed in spoken productions in Arabic, English, and French of 20 children, aged 6 to 12 years old, having participated in our study. Furthermore, a parental and teacher questionnaire made it possible to specify the language biographies and to identify the sociolinguistic factors which influence the bi-/multilingualism of said children. Our results show a parent-child inter-influence not only on the choice of language in order to tell the story but also on children’s L1 language abilities. Besides, our research shows the importance of factors such as age and length of stay in France for children, especially for French skills. Finally, it was observed that family language practices that promote bi-/multilingualism had positive impact on children’s bi-/multilingualism language competencies

Full textA historical overview looking into the genesis of the notion of emotion and its verbalisations shows that ever since its Platonic conceptualisation, the notion has been integrated within political and epistemological problematics which deal with the process of individuation through speeches of both control and distancing. The analysis of the metaphorisations of emotion through computerised data from TLFi enables to establish the different parts of its prevailing version, its coherence, as well as the description of its alternative patterns. The last chapter focuses on the causes of the deficiency of works related to speaking of emotion in French, their limits and the lessons inspired from them while providing elements that contribute to the development of sociolinguistics of efficiency. The purpose is to substitute the referential principle that is usually assigned to language with the sociolinguistic principle of world-effect, or of creation or transformation of the common world
