This article analyses the importance of corporate governance for growth companies, derives specific requirements for them and evaluates the corporate governance quality for companies listed on TecDax. Growth companies’ characteristics imply a comparatively high importance of corporate governance due to a high level of business and agency risk. Several corporate governance elements are therefore particularly important for growth companies. Overall, the empirical results imply a high conformity of the Tec-Dax companies with the GCGC criteria with some exceptions for specific companies and criter

Due to some new developments in the German Corporate Governance Codex (GCGC) as well as the introduction of new laws several aspects of the supervisory board compensation are subject to change. In a first step we analyze the size and structure of DAX 30 companies’ supervisory board compensation. One novelty of the article is that we perform this analysis on a person specific level instead of relying on firm level data. In a second step, we examine how well DAX 30 firms comply with the GCGC on supervisory board compensation both with regard to the recommended structure and with regard to the re

The paper describes an attempt at health risk assessment and odour concentration determination in the most important units of a wastewater treatment plant. The cancer risk (CR) and hazard index (HI) parameters in selected measurement locations were calculated based on the results of chromatographic analyses (GCxGC-TOF-MS) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) guidelines. No exceedance of the CR and HI acceptable levels was observed for identified and quantitatively determined compounds from the VOCs group. The acceptable level was exceeded for the summary HI parameter.

Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), still remains one of the leading causes of death from a single infectious agent worldwide. The high prevalence of this disease is mostly ascribed to the rapid development of drug resistance to the current anti-TB drugs, exacerbated by lack of patient adherence due to drug toxicity. The aforementioned highlights the urgent need for new anti-TB compounds with different antimycobacterial mechanisms of action to those currently being used. Separation technologies have occupied a central role in the current practices of analytical methods used for drug analysis today. As the emphasis in contemporary drug analysis shifts towards ultra-trace concentrations, the contribution from unwanted matrix interferences takes on greater significance. In order to single out a trace substance with confidence from a rapidly expanding list of drug compounds (and their metabolites) in real complex specimens, analytical technologies must evolve to keep up with such trends.
