Full textEnvironmental pressures seem to be at the base of a will of organisations to improve themselves. Quality programs and, more recently, reengineering projects are put in place by organisations searching for process improvement. Reengineering and quality are concepts that are positioned far from the tradition of organisational theory. This dissertation focuses on the generation of success of reengineering in quality environments and, furthermore, tries to strengthen the links of both these two concepts to organisational theory. Influence of a quality environment, and more largely a given organizational context, on the success of a reengineering project can be globally analysed thanks to the contribution of 'structuration' theory. Other more precise analyses are based on planned change theory and, particularly, on the "learning" dimension of change. The success of reengineering projects is studied through the articulations (interdependences) coming from the quality environments, the articulations emerging from other contextual elements, the problems linked to the realization of these projects, and the associated direct and indirect organisational impacts. This theoretical framework is used to study five reengineering projects in five different organisations following a content dimensional analysis. A longitudinal analysis is also pursued in one of these organisations. The "implementation" and the "follow-up" are the reengineering key stages for success. The initial stages seem to have a weaker weight for the success of the reengineering project even though they have an influence on the quality of the following stages. Concerning the "implementation" stage, structural, cultural and behavioural aspects are important. The elements from the quality environment, particularly process management and a measurement system, are essential during the last stage : "follow-up". This last stage is composed of distinct efforts which deserve further specification. We propose to sub-divide this last stage in three different stages : "standardisation", "follow-up" and "additional improvements"

Although many studies acknowledge the alliance between technological and organizational dimensions of innovation, only a few really outline and study this phenomenon. A literature review on the relations between technology and organization emphasized the progressive transition from an exogeneous conception of technology and an adaptive conception of organization (mainly represented in the contingency approach) to studies which recognize the complementarity between technological and organizational innovations. Qualified as ± integrative α these last approaches also have weaknesses mainly due to the numerous definitions of concepts and the variety of organizations studied. Besides, they do not really tacke into account the nature of the relations between innovations. Regarding this literature, three research

It was devoted on the urgency of the planet awareness on environmental problems. But beyond this struggle of protecting the planet is a big political, diplomatic, economic and social games at stakes. The francophones countries having been aware of this new games at stakes, took advantage of the world mobilisation to formulate a principle of cooperation in the domain of environment. This should have double objectives. For them it is a question of taking an active part in the international community leadership role in favour of environment all in assuring their political, economical and cultural interests. It is also a question of defining a common strategy to fight against environmental problems that are daily confronted with by francophone countries, the most urgent of which are deforestation, water, pollution, desertification and industrial pollution. In the last analysis, it is a question of offering a frame of life environmentally healthy for their population that are more and more becoming numerous, in creating the term of a durable development linking the objectives of ecological economics in francophone states

Full textOur research aims to explore the interactions between the information system and organizational innovation within large companies, from all sectors. At the first step, we explicit the relationship between information system and organizational innovation based on a theoretical point of view. In a second step, through literature and case studies, we seek to specify these concepts in our field of investigation. Finally and it’s the most importantly, our project aims to clarify how the information system can contribute to organisational innovation within large companies. We want to exceed the traditional perspective focuses on technological innovation as synonymous with progress for the company and show that the use of the information system, beyond its technological dimension, is a vector of innovation organizational, under certain conditions

Full textProblematic: Like many developing countries, the quality of services provided in Lao hospitals, especially in remote regions, is often criticized. It is therefore interesting to examine "successful" cases hospitals that are considered by many as models for the rest country. Such is the case of two hospitals in the province of Vientiane, whose evolution was supported by Luxembourg Cooperation. Methodology: This study is a multiple case study took place in two hospitals (Maria Teresa and Vang Vieng). It aimed to study organizational factors associated with the perception by health workers and pregnant or postpartum, of the performance of obstetric care. Individual interviews, based on themes derived from the conceptual framework of the study were performed. Results: Analyses of the results show a great satisfaction with the services offered by both, hospital workers and users, even if some expected services are not routinely offered. The main factors associated with the perceived functionality of the two hospitals are related to two aspects: an investment in human resources and an investment in the accessibility of the target population to obstetric services. The investment in human resources focused on strategies aiming the improvement of the expertise detained by all, clinicians and non-clinicians, the recognition of the work done by the staff and the creation of a pleasant atmosphere for team work. Investment in accessibility focused on geographical and economic barriers, as well as on providing information on the importance of perinatal care to the community. Conclusion: An investment in human resources and in the accessibility to services allows regional hospitals of the Lao PDR to become functional and efficient. Key words: Obstetric care, Luxembourg cooperation, quality of care, human resources, RDP Lao.

Full textSurvival and professional performance of biotechnology entrepreneurs depend on their ability to capitalize knowledge collectively, i. E. To evaluate, validate and control this knowledge. This PhD dissertation examines the social mechanism of collective learning that reflects, at the inter-organization level, this collective work. We use a micro-political approach in which value and appropriateness of knowledge is defined by authority relationships and social criteria that actors use to manage these relationships. We show that the heterogeneity of sectors involved in the biotechnology industry and the absence of formal interdependencies among entrepreneurs lead to a controversy on the legitimacy of epistemic authorities. We describe this controversy by looking at the definitions of the situation (identity, rules and representatives of the authority) of entrepreneurs who do not share de same knowledge claims. Results identify a polarization movement where different communities seek to impose their respective definition of the situation. This polarization reduces the effectiveness of collective learning because it promotes the creation of rigid social boundaries between these epistemic communities. To mitigate the negative effects of polarization, actors participate in various specific integration processes: they build social niches, they coordinate at the level of regional clusters and they personalize their relationships with venture capitalists. Each integration process is characterized by a form of relational proximity that allows actors to articulate their epistemic claims and to resolve the conflicts associated with the construction of consensus on the legitimacy of their epistemic authorities

Full textHow do management production systems allow firms to deal with the various risks. Uncertainties and random incidents (of internal or external origin) which affect their activity? the present study starts by identifying the ways in which production management tools are built up and the main methods currently available. It then goes on to analyse the dialectical relations between the production management system and the work system using the concept of organisational dynamics. An analysis of the resources thus created or brought into play and of the organisational routines which are gradually built up leads to the construction of a typology of organisational dynamics. Production management systems also play a role in the relations between the firm and its environment - notably through the reproduction and evolution of organisational dynamics. These mechanisms are analysed using the concepts of stable periods and stable zones which are elaborated using well-established categories of industrial economics (quasi-integration, inter-firm cooperation, etc)

Full textIncreasing importance of the service industry in France raises the issue of distress management within customer service employees. This article studies the impact of managerial practices, as identified by J. F. Chanlat (1999), on distress at work. We posit distress an as object on its own. We use Chanlat work (1999) to study the effect of occupational demands, decisional latitude and social support (Karasek &Theorell, 1990) and evaluate the impact of additional variables such as empowerment, identity at work, recognition and organizational/emotional support. We have led a qualitative study through eighty six non directive interviews, in 5 customer service organizations belonging to different companies. Two call centers, a retail company and two major passenger transportation companies, rail and air have been studied. The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate how managerial practices, as defined by J. F. Chanlat (1999), influence distress endured by customer service employees. Although common sense tells us that the major cause of distress within the customer service employees is the behavior of the customers themselves, we will explore the effect of managerial practices on distress among customer service employees in the French service industry. Our key findings are the impact of occupational demands, flexibility, lost of identity at work and lack of recognition on distress within customer service employees

Full textResearch in Management Science and Information Systems has proposed a series of work centered around the benefits of social networks for individuals and the adoption process that it entails. However, social network uses are numerous and each of them deserve in-depth studies. Specifically, the practice of content curation becomes truly relevant in a context of digital transformation. It proposes a new social network use that can benefit the organization. Thereby, the research opts to gather the concept of social network, curation and organizational knowledge through the following question: how does profesionnal content curation on social network participate to organizational knowledge ? This question has been sub-divided into three questions, allowing different multi-level analysis. The first one questions the influencing factors of social network curation for individuals ; the second one interrogates the benefit of using social network tool to operate content curation ; the third one combines both concepts in an organizational context with the aim of clarifying its benefits. Media Richess Theory, Social Presence Theory, UTAUT and SLAM Framework has been used to bring an answer to them. 841 questionary respondants along with 14 semi-directional interviews sufficed to confirm positive link betwen the adoption of social network curation and improvement of individual and collective knowledge. To reach organizational knowledge, the research demonstrates that informatio flows and the different stocks of knowledge need to be aligned

Full textCooperation has always been a fundamental issue of research on social organizations, whether human or animal. Thus, studies about cooperation are transversal to many disciplines: anthropology, sociology, psychology, economics, and management. Forms, reasons, motivations or barriers to joint actions of individuals are observed. The fields covered are as diverse as family, school, state, local or enterprise. Management is particularly interested in the latter, in its broadest sense, that of economic and social unit. This research is intended as a contribution to the study of this complex and fundamental phenomenon: cooperation between members of an organization. With the first part, we try to understand how cooperation appears and evolves within organizations. To do this, we answer the following questions: How to study cooperation in organizations? What cooperation? Why and how to cooperate? Cooperate with whom? Through the development and analysis of a database verbatim, and the study of intervention-research, cooperation is defined as a process by which actors move from their individual actions to collective action. Their practices, complex, protean are governed by two logics of action : the one based on the calculation, the other one on the identity. Cooperative practices are organized around three dimensions of organization : horizontal, transversal and vertical. The second part presents the results of the study variables of cooperation in their dynamics; it helps to clarify their links, to observe their development over time and indifferent types of organizational structure. This perspective is made possible by the longitudinal study of three organizations. It is central to this second part. We begin by studying the hierarchy in organizations. Two reasons motivate our choice. On the one hand, this study responds to questions raised in the previous section on the influence of the hierarchy in the dynamic cooperative. On the other hand, the three organizations in which the dynamics were observed are structured hierarchically. We then discuss the interactions between the different variables of cooperation, particularly between the horizontal, transversal and vertical dimensions, and identify levels for the development of cooperative practices. The study of these levels is then deepened and enriched with managerial implications

Full textThis thesis studies the changes in the organizational structure determined by the implementation of open innovation. Specifically, we consider the changes in the deep and formal structure of a firm. We study these changes in nine firms by using primary data collected through semi-structured interviews and secondary data consisting of firms’ annual reports and journal articles. Our results consist of a new definition of inbound open innovation, a proposition of a contingency model of open innovation at firm level and a deep understanding of the way open innovation impacts the firm. The definition of inbound open innovation we propose emphasizes three main aspects : the integration the openness of innovation into the firm’s formal innovation strategy and the systematic and frequent use of collaborations with various actors in the innovation process

Full textIn this thesis we focus on Japon where venture capitalism has been introduced in the 1960s. We use the comparative institutional analysis framework to identify the causes of the change in the VC economic function which is in Japon : financing later stage firms to prepare their IPO. This is very different from the US case. We find that the causes are due a historical and a regulatory setting that has been reinforced by the organizational structures adopted by the VC firms. In Japon, hierarchical Vcs are dominant and this leads them to hands off (or arm's length) financing which needs little incubation support. This lack of implication reduces the ability of certifying the issuing firms in the IPO process. We also find an evidence of the historical legacy in the fact that only the subsidiaries of the top 3 underwriters are able to reduce the underpricing at the IPO. This happens when the parent company is the lead underwriter

Full textCommunity of practice (CoP) is defined as a potential space for cooperation between peers favoring the access to knowledge and allowing the development of innovation. A CoP, which can also be seen as an informal network of cooperation, could be interesting for startups that suffering with the lack of resources and that are deficient in their innovation process, especially when they are far from potential innovation partners. However, the issue of competition cannot be disregarded in their inter-organizational context. Furthermore, the literature on communities of practice has not yet addressed this paradoxical dynamic in which there is presence at the same time of cooperation and competition logics. Moreover, the literature of coopetition does not well explore this kind of dynamics in informal networks. Thus, the goal of this thesis is to study the effect of coopetition on the social dynamics of inter-organizational CoPs in an innovation context. This study is based on an exploratory and longitudinal case study that was conducted at San Pedro Valley (Brazil), which is a CoP of innovative startups in the information technology sector. The analysis of this case study allows us to construct a categorization of different relationships of coopetition that exist in the inter-organizational CoP. Even if the participation of entrepreneurs, which are members of this informal network, allows the strategic adjustment of their companies in issues related to the innovation projects, some relations will progressively modify the crucial characteristics of the CoP due to the forthcoming of tensions and conflicts. One of the main results of this thesis is a new light at the functioning of CoP at the inter-organizational level showing how the coopetition strategies is developed in informal networks. Another result includes an individual-level to understand the drivers of coopetition, and then the study provides insights about the informal relationship in the scope of coopetition strategy. It is also worth mentioning methodological contributions based on the use of a "netnography" approach to entrepreneurial social networks, as well as managerial contributions to entrepreneurs, allowing a better understanding of their innovation ecosystem

At the begining of this research is a case of change in a public hospital where absenteeism rate feld down between the anouncement of the change and the moment when it hapened. This problematics lead us to choose the organizational commitment as the variable to be explained, job involvement as a middle variable, experiences of change and identification variables. To well understand this phenomenon we have defined a quantitative methdology with a necessary first qualitative step which aim was the largest comprehension of the diferent faces the problematic has made emerged. The research covered a 94 persons sample while the experiences have been measured with an had-doc scale. We use the allen et meyer's affective and continuance scale and lodhal et kejner's scale. The research results lead us to identify experiences structurating the hospital staff experiences of change. We showed these different experiences can predict wether affective commitment or continuance commitment. In addition the interest of a jointly use of organizational commitment and job involvement we have shown the importance of "number of children". Eventually this results are discussed. We have shown the contributions and limits of this research

S manage to perform a huge and complex maintenance revision, called a scheduled outage. The theoretical perspective aims at understanding how and why, in a highly prescriptive and regulated industry, motivated by the intrinsic risks of the technology (nuclear), which tend to be in conflict with the economic and performance requirements, one can observe a diverse range of behaviors : from compliance to deviation. Confronted with this puzzle, the dissertation wants to offer a unique explanation, which allows to knit together actors strategies and "social inventions" (Whyte, 1984), with organizational contexts, which to our opinion determine the circumstances under which the various organizational solutions and options emerge

Full textGlobalization, open markets and the new global economy foster new dimensions of a new geo-socio-economic system. Among these changes, internationalization becomes an essential element of a company development. Therefore, Moroccan SMEs are no longer able to operate independently, as the new global economy obliges them to seek the needsof future challenges. Thus, this thesis focuses on describing the current situation of Moroccan SMEs, which have already reached the international level. It also aims at studying deeply their internationalization process, in order to identify the differences and correspondences between the internationalization and organizational process. The conducted statistical analyses, using the “multinomial logistic regressions” and "Data Envelopment Analysis" method, emphasize the importance of strategic, relational dynamics and innovation within the influence of the internationalization process in the SMEs context of Fez-Meknes region. The taxonomy approach was applied to classify the companies under the study into three categories: apathetic companies, intermediate companies and then agile companies. In fact, the target of this research is to cover and identify the relevant results in order to promote the connotation of the internationalization of the Moroccan SMEs. The thesis has benefited from the support of the Moroccan-French Scientific Cooperation research program which funded a part of the team activities involved in this project

Full textThis work aims to study the longitudinal relationships linking the psychosocial and organisational work factors (POWFs) at the work unit level, the constraints related to the physical work environment and to life experiences at work to the frequency of depressive symptoms and the incidence of high blood pressure (HBP) among registered nurses and nursing assistants. We use data from 7 teaching hospitals in France followed in the ORSOSA cohort. Pooled results show that understaffing issues, poor relationships with the hierarchical superiors within the work unit and frequent interruptions during nursing tasks at the work unit level are associated with health problems among workers. POWFs at the work unit level may also affect workers' level of depressive symptoms through the life experiences at work. These results argue in favour of a primary prevention of risks linked to POWFs and enrich the understanding their effects on workers' health

Full textDrownings occur in PSP (public swimming pool) despite lifeguard supervision. The thesis proposes a systemic and organizational analysis of the drowning risk in PSP based on a combined qualitative methodology : a documentary analysis aimed at quantifying the accidental phenomenon coupled with 9 expert interviews (part C), field observations conducted in 108 PSP in order to objectifying the effectiveness of supervision (part D) and semi-structured interviews to identify the root causes of mismatches : (n = 27) in experimental way for a Grand-Ouest metropolis within the framework of an expertise mission and (n = 30) within the Caen la mer community (part E). The results of the study show that : (1) the production of quantitative data on PSP drowning is hampered by several barriers that make this issue a “blind spot” of the knowledge ; 2) the supervision by lifeguard is degraded half of the observation time and 3) managerial arbitration, organizational dynamics, but also social representations of the actors interfere with the supervision function, exerting influence on its realization and quality. The work highlights the coexistence and redundancy of feedback loops that are relatively efficient but not coordinated, articulated in a contingent way and included into different registers. Monitoring by lifeguards, which is random about its effectiveness, refers to a difficult task, which is highly constrained and, moreover, subject to plural forms of adaptation. This work shows that the management of the drowning risks in these equipment and the current practices are perfectible. Moreover, recommendations were formulated to optimize risk management and pool supervision. Preventive action was also launched (Part F)

Full textThe objective of this research was to compare the perceptions of teachers with those of students in regards to the concept of respect in schools. The conceptual framework allows us to better understand and to bring more light on the phenomenon of perception by highlighting variables such as age, sex, school size, culture and values that can influence the perception of individuals. The creation and the verification of the reliability of an instrument in the form of a Likert scale of measurement allowed us to analyze the perceptions of a sample of 226 teachers and 1021 students from seven francophone schools in New Brunswick. Factorial grouping was performed with the data in order to create a typology of perceptions from the participants and compare them according to the respondents’ gender, teachers’ age and experience, the student’s grade, school size and the teacher’s perception of the organizational culture. The results show a significant difference between the perceptions of teachers and students on 39 of the 50 behavior / scenarios proposed. Significant differences also exist in other demographic variables such as school size and the perception of the school’s culture, for both teachers and students. The results suggest that students, in some cases, do not necessarily intend to be disrespectful in their actions. Awareness of this reality on the part of teachers would reduce the risk of unnecessary conflict and foster an environment for constructive learning. It could also help teachers manage conflicts due to differences in perceptions.
