Recently, with increasing awareness of environmental issues, the world works to achieve the sustainable development goals. Among four of the most common packaging materials in the world, paper packaging materials are recognized as one of the most promising green packaging materials in the 21st century. It can be expected that there is a growing demand for paper packaging materials in Taiwan as the government implements measures to reduce plastic pollution. However, in recent years, the market competition has become increasingly fierce in paper container manufacturing industry due to factors such as global recession, overproduction and the regulations of WTO and EU. In this study, the Delphi technique is used to perform a five-force analysis of A-Corporation, a company in the paper container manufacturing industry. We obtain the ideas and forecasts from a group of experts through a questionnaire. The responses are summarized and the new questions are developed on the basis of the responses. In our study, the experts answer questionnaires in two rounds. Based on the results of Delphi survey, we analyze the present situation and development trend of the industry to find the competitive advantages and business strategies of paper container manufacturing industry. The results of this study make contributions for A-Corporation and the whole paper container manufacturing industry to implement the marketing strategy planning. This is a case study of failure analyses about a manufacturing company diversified from a successful trading service company. The company X is a commerce agent. For avoiding the threat from suppliers’ going direct the company X decided to diversify itself into a new business to manufacture its own products. The trust issues between the board and the division general managers emerge as the new business cannot make a break-even and keep losing money after operating for a period of time. Under such a critical situation, the new change agent was assigned by the board to make a turn-around. Nevertheless the operation of the new business was not improved and the board finally abandoned the whole new business. The case was analyzed from various theoretical perspectives with the following findings: 1.It is difficult of core competence transfer as it takes a long time to acquire. 2.If a new product fails to win the specific buyers over it is very likely to fall into the chasm; the penetration of a low-end disruptive innovation technology demands the high commitment of owners and sustained capability of the organization. 3.The agency problem would become worse if business continued losing money and general managers of the new business own only minor equities. 4.The room of making change is quite limited if the initial strategy is wrong. The only way to stop loss is to withdraw gradually or completely if the new business unit cannot generate income by current products.

Sales forecasting is usually the most uncertainty for management because the predict affects corporation's plans for finance, purchase, production, sales and inventory. When the forecast is more than actual sales, high inventory will cause inefficient warehouse turnover and a heavy load if it's a short life cycle product. An excess of inventory is also a burden which would force price dropped and increase cost of operation as well as decrease corporation profit. When the forecast is less than actual sales, inventory can not fulfill demand and may lose the market share and miss the chance to enter and dominate the market. To have an accurate forecast is usually one of ultimate goals for a corporation. Variety of product, customer's preference, price, campaign, marketing strategy, season and area are elements related to sales forecast. Especially to motherboard which is a short life cycle product, is it good to apply a traditional experiment rule into the Time Series is based on huge history data, and Grey System Theory and Back Propagation Neural Networks Method are based on certain data. Which one is a better appliance for motherboard industry to increase forecast accuracy? The purpose of this thesis is to increase forecast accuracy and decrease inventory. All in all is to find out a suitable forecasting model for motherboard industry. Analysis is based on three models: Time Series, Grey System Theory and Back Propagation Neural Networks Method. After comparing the three models, the result is better than experiment forecasting. Therefore, motherboard industry could take the thesis as forecasting reference which hopefully helps corporation making a better accurate sales forecasting.

The Law of Financial Holding Company has been enacted on November 2001,as of so far, 14 entities have obtained Holding Company Licenses and operating business officially. We learned that majority of FHC currently at the market still maintained Banking as the main body of the course of business. The main profitability of FHC are based on cross selling of financial commodities, among the various financial business channels, the bank locations are the most relevant in promoting integrated selling channels, this is somewhat exposed that banks have the competition strength in direct dealing with consumers and selling scrambled commodities. While in combining with other non-financial business in pursuing cross selling、cost savings and capital efficiency goals, it is apparent that the actual development of the real effects are very limited due to the most FHC are still in the stage of integrating the territory or in searching for the targets. The fundamentals still leave to the company’s core competition abilities and the increase of the effectiveness through the consolidations of subsidiaries. The primary approach of this research is in reference to a unique innovative matrix created by Dr. Tzo-Sheng Hsu who summarized many foreign scholars’ perspectives of competitive advantage strategic analysis and definitions of innovation. By comparing the「business intention strategy matrix」and「innovative SWOT matrix」, the「differentiation matrix」will assists the organization operator to learn the effectiveness of strategies for planning in advance, and minimizing future operational risk. This process can also help in modifying or creating the most sustainable plan for the organization. In applying the competitive advantage strategic analysis model, this research was gathered by using Hua-Nan financial holding company as an actual target model for the case study, and once analyzing this company, three major conclusions have been made as follows: 1. In the financial business industry, Hua-Nan FHC positioned at「market oriented operation」strategic business units, and sufficiently controlled key factors of success advantages. 2. Hua-Nan FHC at the present time possesses fidelity and loyalty from employees、the integration effectiveness of marketing channels、brand name and business image, and effective leadership in upper operating management over subsidiaries’ communications & coordination in primary resources advantage. 3. In the process of defining goals and establishing intention strategies, Hua-Nan FHC can fully manage opportunities from the market environment, and develop the actual competitive advantage that organizations maintain. However, some other competitive advantages and industry key success require further reinforcement, including customer relationship management、brand name and other business images、product innovation、research & development, and international competition abilities, etc..

With the irreversible tides of globalization and de-regulation in the contemporary world, the small and medium enterprises of Taiwan are facing neck-breaking speed of changes and competitions, such as technology changes, price competition, changing customer preference, higher service requirements, and etc. Under this new environment, whether the managements of these small and medium enterprises can obtain accurate cost information of their products and services as well as understand the profitability of their products and distribution channels, and eventually improve the overall profitability of the company are the critical factors to determine the future of these enterprises. The thesis uses the methodology of case study on a paints company and aims to (1). Apply the concepts of activity-based costing to a paint trading company to first, obtain the accurate cost of its key activities, and then allocate the costs into difference cost objectives, i.e. products and distribution channels. (2). Use the profitability analytical skills to understand the profitability of the company’s every products and distribution channel. (3). Make recommended actions to lift the profitability of the company and enhance its competitiveness in the long term. In pursuant to the studies in this thesis, following conclusions have been derived; (1). Activity-based costing can generate more accurate cost information on products as well as the distribution channels. (2). Activity-based costing can assist management in perceiving the managerial bottlenecks in the operations. (3). Activity-based costing can rectify the deficiencies embodied in the performance evaluation system. (4). Activity-based costing can help the company in improving its profitability. (5). Activity-based costing is the basis for improving the profitability of a company, however, the success of implementing this system lies on the basis of management’s understanding on this system as well as the management determination to effectively utilize this system.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are an important issue that related to occupational health in many countries in recent years. To our literature review, high repetitive tasks would possibly cause WMSDs especially while performing the tasks for a long term. This study, therefore, explored the gas-cylinder rolling tasks, in a technology company in Taiwan, through an integrated tool by NMQ, RULA, and posture recording. Results show that three of four participants subjectively responded discomfort on the upper extremities and attributed that to the rolling tasks. Result from RULA also shows that it is of need to further improve the task condition as soon as possible. Moreover, analysis in right wrist shows that radial deviation and extension of the joint were severe with 17° and 70°, respectively, those are nearly limits of wrist’s range of motion. Similar phenomena can also be found in the left wrist. Rolling tasks were seldom investigated in the previous studies and the findings from this case study would therefore be considered as a reference to the design and the job training for the tasks.

The background of this master’s thesis is to know how shipbuilding industrial makes transformation, unbalance shipbuilding market, competitive diversity and production capacity adjustment intensely after big accidents had happened such as subprime mortgage crisis in 2008 and the bankruptcy of Hanjin shipping in 2016. The ocean industrial production volume is approx. with 1.35% of total GDP and the employment population is approx. with 0.25% which means it is not the key industry of Taiwan. The advantage of marine industry from government policy are “tax free” for repairing ocean going fishery vessels and “the importation of marine equipment is tax free” only as Custom Tax Regulation Chapter 89 at remark 1. There is not the other straight advantage. The background of this study is government policy of marine industry and the target is San Yang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. It goes in-depth interview to discuss with the supply chain of upstream/ downstream and the management levels of shipyard to know the marine market current condition, the problems of this industry and how to rise up the competitiveness to have their understanding and suggestions. The researcher will go through Porter five forces analysis, VCA (value chain analysis) to have thelight strategies & competitive strategy of shipyard. The conclusion of this researcher summarizes in short that shipbuilding is facing difficulties as financing from bank, hand-over ship after construction, transformation. Shipyard is necessary to do adjustment and transformation itself to find the future direction from current competition environment and investigate the structure of shipyard advantage deeply. In conclusion, the three structure factors are environment, sources and ability to know “Precision of market activity analysis + Building advantage model of ship product + Strategies of win-win solution between shipyard and suppliers will be the key success factor”. At the end, there are three suggestions for the marine industry, (1) cultivate design capability deeply. (2) Well organized procedure to cultivate people with skilled and qualified for industry. (3) Optimized marine market structure.

The strong demand for fast product development and cost reduction of both backlight and lighting LED markets causes reduction in quality requirements. As a result, customer service employees are often overwhelmed by coustomers’ complaints and in consequence, their turnover rate is heightened and the satisfaction of customers is futher attenuated. In the literature, the solutions for the customer complaints and the enhancement of customer satisfaction are conducted on the cases of business to consumer (B to C) or consumer to consumer (C to C). Scarce research has examined the issue in the context of business to business (B to B), where the customers are neither end users nor single individual entities. We are not able to evaluate the demand and expectations of customers in of B to B industry by the view of “individual transaction event”. We can only judge the customers’ expectation in the B to B situation from the customer complaint cases in sequential interactions between one business entity and another business entity.. This study utilizes the cluster and correspondence analyses to explore the customer complaint reduction strategies of a vertically integrated LED Taiwanese manufacturer based on its three-year-span global customer complaint dataset. The cases of complaints are grouped in different categories according to their characteristics including the types of customers (upper, middle, amd downstream, that is, EPI/Chip, Package LED, and Lightbar module), the types of products models, the types of product applications, the types of complaints (electrical characteristics, product appearances, packages, reliabilities…etc). The types of the strategies used to respond to customer complaints are also categorized. We then examine the relationships between the types of strategies and the types of the characteristics of the complaints. The results of the study suggest that the management of LED companies can use their customer complaint statistics for real-time responses and focus on the priority of their responses. The findings also suggest that by sharing their cumulated experiences, senior customer service employees can help junior staff shorten the decision making time for responding to customer complaints.

The environment is continuous changing, and employees’ self-conscious is constantly arising as well. The expectations of job and the demands of working environment, salary and wage are also more diverse than before. Employees not only require for reasonable working payment and comfortable working environment, but also human-based management, respect of employees’ opinions, and opportunities to grow and show their abilities in their works. At the meantime, employees are also desirous of sharing business profit with corporations. Most employees, especially young ones, care about their opportunities of self-development within organizations, and realize that they may not stay long in one company. As a result, the phenomenon of no space for employees to learn, grow and get progress would bring employees the willingness of leaving. In most early studies, working satisfaction is in relation to organizational working performance. To keep adequate turnover rate and avoid financial loss, organizations must properly inspire high-performance employees to make them willingly to work for the organizations. In this way, corporations could use the limited resources to create the maximum effect, and then achieve the goals. Because the resign-tendency is a very important prediction variable of resigning behavior, the research take the resign-tendency as the main dependent variable to investigate the relationships between job satisfactions, motivational factors and resign-tendency. Moreover, in order to connect with former studies of personal attributes, the research takes job characteristics and leading behaviors as other factors to investigate the relationship between job satisfaction and working performances. Many companies have the misunderstanding that the lower turnover rate, the better. In fact, it is helpful to companies only when well-behaved employees stay. In other words, the resignation of low-performance employee might have positive affects to the company. Therefore, companies should sort employees based on their working performances while analyzing employees’ resignation problems. The numbers do not matter, but the effects the resignations bring do. Companies must understand that some resignations are inevitable and not resulted from problems inside companies. For example, employees could not keep working due to personal factors and choose to resign. Sometimes resignations might be even helpful to companies; the new-blood might be great assistance to companies.

This research considers the problem of using the ESHCA (Environmental, Safety, and Health Cost Accounting) system for cost analysis and performance evaluation. The case-study company, called Company A, is a domestic semiconductor company. Different from current ECA (Environmental Cost Accounting) systems adopted by other enterprises, the ESHCA system of Company A integrates four types of expenditure---environmental, safety, and health and damage prevention. Many domestic researches on ISO 14031 environmental performance management and OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assurance Systems) 18001 occupational safety and health performance indices are done based on questionnaire data. They emphasized the management aspects rather than complete quantitative analysis for a specific company. The research methods include three parts: cost analysis, performance evaluations, and regression analysis of the production quantity(m2-wafer)as a function of environmental, safety and health cost. The cost analysis includes the statistical analyses of the four types of expenditure (categorized into 6 cost types and 12 accounting subjects). The performance evaluation includes computations of the cost and efficacy on the pollution prevention and control, discharge control, wafer production as well as the expenses saved aspects. For the regression analysis, the dependent variable is the production quantity (m2-wafer) and the independent variables are the four types of expenditure---environmental protection, safety, health, and damage prevention. The regression analysis is to assess the relation between the production quantity and those four costs. Besides showing the relation between the production quantity and those four costs, the regression model can be used for budget allocation in environmental, safety and health. The research results are as follows. (1) The expenditure in the environmental protection is highest among the four types of expenditure. Among the cost categories, the expenditure on the corporate operating and management activities is highest. Among the accounting subjects, the highest expenditure was in the equipments and the second highest was in the personnel, outsourcing laboring, and others. (2) Following the guidelines in ISO 14031 and OHSAS 18001, Company A has achieved cost effectiveness in environmental, safety and health aspects. (3) Although there exists positive correlations between the production quantity and the four expenditures (environmental, safety, and health and damage prevention) and hence, the regression analysis can be done, the first three expenditures are highly positively correlated. The collinearity problem exists. To solve this problem, the last expenditure is used with one of the first three expenditures respectively to regress the production quantity. The results show that the model of environmental protection and health expenditures regressing with the production quantity is the most significant. The next is the model of damage prevention and health regression with the production quantity and the last is the model of safety and health regression with the production quantity. Overall, the results show that Company A has good performance in environmental, safety, and health using the ESHCA system and build the relation between the four types of expenditure and production quantity.

This study investigates whether the degree of competition in Taiwan life insurance industry has changed after the enactment of the Financial Holding Company Act. Following Souma and Tustsui, we derive the empirical models from Bresnahan’s method based on the profit-maximizing principle. In addition, the study estimates economies of scale and scope for the main output of the life insurance industry. Previous studies about competition and efficiency had a focus on the whole business of life insurance companies. We consider a disaggregated structural model by which the insurance business will be divided into the insurance underwriting and investment business. We find that (1) the degree of competition of the life insurance industry has decreased in both the insurance underwriting and investment business after the enactment of the Financial Holding Company Act; (2) insurers with larger market share benefit from both the scale and scope economies in the insurance underwriting business, but the model leads us to reject the economies of scope of all domestic and foreign insurers in the investment business.
