Abstract:
In the European Community, a new variety of an agricultural crop must submit official trials for DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity, Stability) and VCU (Value for Cultivation and Use) before commercialisation. The guidelines for those tests are summarized in the European directive 70/457/EU (1970), revised in 2002 (2002/53/EU). The result of the VCU-tests is the admission on the national variety catalogue of new varieties, which are better than the best existing ones. Better varieties in the market can increase the income of the farmers. The progress in breeding can be measured by comparison the level of recent with older (10 - 15 years ago) varieties. Incorporation of new varieties in the culture plan is only justified if they are better than existing varieties and if they have no great weaknesses. Therefore the farmers need criteria for cultivation security and high return (output, yield). The two most important factors for cultivation security are resistance to lodging and to stalk rot. In addition earliness is another important factor for silage maize to attain a sufficient dry matter of the total plant and for corn maize to attain a low moisture content in the grains. Important factors for cost-effectiveness are total dry matter yield and quality for silage and grain yield for corn maize. Until now each EU- country has a separate system for VCU testing. The aim of the VCU-research is to predict the agronomical and technological value of a new variety on a reliable way in comparison with standard varieties. For this purpose there is the necessity for a high number of field trials and analyses; this implicates high national experimentation costs. But the costs for experimentation are only a small fraction of the benefits for the farmers. International cooperation for VCU-testing will become necessary to reduce the costs for the national variety testing systems. However the aim of the research must still be to predict the agronomical value of a new variety with the same reliability as at national level. For the future variety testing should be realized on the basis of comparable agro-ecological regions with the same crop husbandry and use of the crop. These regions must be clearly defined so that the release of varieties corresponds to the high demands for harvest security and good conservation possibilities of the harvested material. The most important criteria for evaluation should be: harvest security, disease resistance, yield and quality. The basis for a good success for international cooperation is a good knowledge of the national systems: searching for similarities and finding a solution for differences. Once a variety on a catalogue in one European country, the breeding company tries to sell the variety in the whole agro-ecological for which the variety is adapted. Therefore it is important that in the surrounding zones, where the variety is tested, the same criteria are valid. In this presentation we will give a proposal for harmonization and international cooperation for controlling the VCU- value of new maize varieties.

Topicality. The urgency of this problem is determined by the necessity of developing a methodological support for operations due diligence for the domestic professional practice (in the field of accounting, auditing, taxation, finance and law) for the objective presentation of the investment object. Aim and tasks. The aim of the article is to study essence and methodical principles of professional service due diligence. Development of the author's approach to the content of the guidelines and criteria for the due diligence at winemaking enterprises. Research results. Due diligence has become relevant in our country as a service perspective for the development of the domestic audit industry. However, despite the growth of its prevalence in our country, this service has neither a clear definition nor standards, therefore, it needs to streamline its methodology and more formalization. The article reveals the essence and methodical principles of conducting the due diligence service. The author's approach to the content of the directions and criteria for carrying out the due diligence examination at the winemaking enterprises is shown. Conclusions. The results of study theoretical foundations, methodology and history of the due diligence procedure allowed us to define the due diligence procedure as a deep and comprehensive analysis of all aspects of the financial and economic activity of the enterprise: organizational, legal, financial, marketing, tax, political, market, technological, and others. in order to provide an objective idea of the object of investment. The results of the study of information sources on the practical experience of implementing the due dilinges procedure indicate that this examination is carried out in such general areas as: accounting, financial, legal, organizational, tax expertise and specific areas: verification of the company's information environment, compliance with the requirements of law enforcement in areas of environmental protection, company position in the market, analysis of political risks. The peculiarities of the functioning of enterprises, in particular winemaking enterprises, require the completion of the due diligence procedure in such areas as: vineyard characteristics, natural conditions, agronomical characteristics of plantations, quality of grapes, quality of wine materials, quality of finished products.

The aim of this work is to assess the morphological characteristics and parameters of biomass production, such as fresh and dry matter weight (FMW and DMW, g/plant), yield of dry matter (YDM) in terms of ton/ha, essential oil content (EOC, mL/100 g) and yield of essential oils (YEO) expressed as L/ha of the following plants Salvia verbenaca, Salvia argentea, Salvia lavandulifolia, Salvia pratensis, Salvia sclarea, Salvia triloba and Salvia officinalis. Except for Salvia argentea (S2) all other species have adapted to the south Brazilian climate conditions, with morphological differences among the species evaluated. In terms of DMW and YDM, S. officinalis was found to be the most productive species with 445.83 g/plant and 11.14 ton/ha. The higher essential oil content and yield was observed for S. officinalis, affording 1.99 mL/100 g and 221.74 L/ha, respectively. Chemical characterisation of the essential oils obtained from hydrodistillation was performed through GC and GC/MSD analyses, which revealed for most of the species studied, α e β-thujone, camphor and 1,8-cineole as major compounds, apart from S. sclarea, for which linalool, linalyl acetate and α-terpineol were the major components.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT This study was conducted to characterize the phenological traits, yield components and quality traits affecting wheat grain yield. Three wheat genotypes were evaluated during three planting dates (November 20, December 5, and December 20) and at four seeding densities 300, 350, 400 and 450 seeds per m2 for two years. Multivariate analyses were conducted based on the interaction effects of planting date and seeding density (PS), planting date and genotype (PG) and seeding density and genotype (SG) mean values. The results of correlation analysis showed that grain yield was significantly and positively correlated with biomass yield (0.91**), days to spiking (0.81**), days to anthesis (0.83**), and days to maturity (0.57*) for PS; with biomass yield (0.94**), days to spiking (0.87**), days to anthesis (0.75*), and harvest index (0.83**) for PG; with gluten index (0.73**), harvest index (0.68*), and 1000-grain weight for SG. Path analysis revealed that biomass yield for PS and PG, harvest index for PG and SG, and gluten index for SG exhibited the highest positive direct effect. Stepwise regression analysis also revealed important effect of biomass yield, harvest index, and days to maturity for improving grain yield in different agronomical conditions.

Abstract:
Today, through the monitoring of agronomic variables, the wireless sensor networks are playing an increasingly important role in precision agriculture. Among the emerging technologies used to develop prototypes related to wireless sensor network, we find the Arduino platform and XBee radio modules from the DIGI Company. In this article, based on field tests, we conducted a comparative analysis of received strength signal intensity levels, calculation of path loss with “log-normal shadowing” and free-space path loss models. In addition, we measure packet loss for different transmission, distances and environments with respect to an “Arduino Mega” board, and radio modules XBee PRO S1 and XBee Pro S2. The tests for the packet loss and received strength signal intensity level show the best performance for the XBee Pro S2 in the indoor, outdoor, and rural scenarios.

Abstract:
In wheat, the size of the grain, respectively its dimensions as well as degree of filled, are important characteristics on which depends both the weight of the grain and yield of flour, the quality of milling and baking as well as the production capacity of the respective genotype. This paper presents the results obtained by studying for three years, under field condition, 85 doubled haploid (DH) lines obtained from the F1’s of ‘G.603-86’ (large grains genotype) × ‘F.132’ (normal grains genotype) crosses using biotechnological Zea system. The environmental conditions of the three years had an important contribution on the genotype × year interaction, which showed also a higher influence on 1000 kernel weight (TKW). The variability of plant height and ear emergence data was also affected to a similar extent by this interaction. Based on the performed results and analyses, were highlighted lines which show high and stable values of TKW (54-64 g), associated with a plants height of approximately 85-100 cm and an ear emergence from May 11 to 17, under some climatic conditions similar to the period of study. These doubled haploids lines can be considered as promising genotypes for using in wheat breeding programs in order to improve yield performances under temperate continental climate conditions.

Abstract There is a discrepancy between CAPM-implied and realized returns. Using the CAPM in capital budgeting—as recommended in textbooks—should thus have real effects. For instance, low beta projects should be valued more by CAPM users than by the market. We test this hypothesis using M&A data and show that bids for low-beta private targets entail lower bidder returns. We provide further support by testing several ancillary predictions. Our analyses suggest that using the CAPM when valuing targets leads to valuation errors (relative to the market’s view) corresponding on average to 12% to 33% of the deal values.

Abstract:
Background:Reducing structural damage is an important treatment goal for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Demonstrating a clinically meaningful, statistically significant difference in radiographic progression (assessed by van der Heijde modified total Sharp score, mTSS) is a common objective in trials for RA treatments.Complete collection of radiographic data is challenging, especially in long term follow-up and pediatric studies. Therefore, scores for individual joints or entire patients are regularly missing. A frequently used analysis method for mTSS is the analysis of covariance model, in which missing data are imputed using linear extrapolation (ANCOVA+LE). However, other ways to deal with missing information have also been proposed. Objectives:To evaluate robust analysis methods for mTSS data. Methods:Simulated data were used to compare a random coefficient model (RC) without imputation, ANCOVA+LE and ANCOVA with last observation carry forward imputation (LOCF).A log-normal distribution was used to generate baseline patient level data to simulate a 2-arm clinical trial using baseline mTSS and rate of change in mTSS from recently completed trials. Changes in mTSS (12, 28 and 44 week timepoints) were generated under linear, concave quadratic (fast progression then slow progression), and convex quadratic (slow progression then fast progression) assumptions, with the proportion of change forced to be 0 (a proportion of simulated patients do not have progression). A monotone missing pattern was assumed to generate a data set with missing data (the ‘observed’ dataset).ANCOVA analyses were performed using baseline and treatment as predictors. The RC model was applied using baseline, treatment, time, and time-by-treatment interactions as fixed effect and time as a random effect. Bias (difference between average of simulation sample mean and true value, the smaller the better), root mean square error (RMSE, a measure of variation among simulation samples, the smaller the better), power and type I error rate were compared between methods. Results:The random coefficient model provided better or at least similar results in bias, RMSE, power and type I error rate as ANCOVA+LE under evaluated scenarios (Table 1).Progression assumptionSimulation parameters(Number of simulations = 500; common sample size=300, baseline mTSS=~11.7)ModelBiasPowerRMSELinearppbo= 0.6, rpbo= 0.065ptrt= 0.68 rpbo= 0.046Δwk44= −0.49ANCOVA + Full0.0020.9240.140ANCOVA + LE0.0030.8660.155ANCOVA+LOCF0.1540.8440.190RC + FULL0.0010.920.139RC + OBS−0.0020.8720.156Concaveppbo= 0.6, rpbo= −0.0009, qpbo= 0.11ptrt= 0.68, rtrt= −0.0011, qtrt= 0.093Δwk44= −0.611ANCOVA + Full0.0020.9820.141ANCOVA + LE−0.0020.9260.180ANCOVA+LOCF0.1880.940.222RC + FULL0.0020.9780.141RC + OBS−0.0050.9240.174Convexppbo=0.6, rpbo= 0.0037, qpbo=−0.09ptrt= 0.68, rtrt= 0.003, qtrt= −0.1Δwk44= −0.83ANCOVA + Full0.00310.139ANCOVA + LE0.3430.9480.368ANCOVA+LOCF0.3910.9740.405RC + FULL−0.00410.140RC + OBS0.1990.9880.249Abbreviations: FULL = complete dataset with no missing values trt = active treatment, OBS = the ‘observed’ dataset, pbo = placebo, p= proportion of patients with no progression, r = linear progression rate (mTSS units per week), q = quadratic term coefficient. Abstract:
Customers increasingly demand that companies offer a wide variety of products and services. As a result, many companies spend millions of dollars conducting profitability analyses of their customers. For instance, the banking industry alone spends an estimated $500 million per year on customer profitability analyses. Accordingly, customer profitability analysis is listed as one of the recent major developments in managerial accounting (Cotton 2005). Customer profitability analysis refers to the practice of estimating the profitability of individual customers and identifying both customers that create value for the company and, just as importantly, those customers that destroy value. Effective customer profitability analysis provides the company with a strong competitive advantage by improving key strategic and operating decisions involving customer selection and retention. For example, Sprint Nextel drew the attention of investors, analysts, and customers alike when it “fired” 1,000 of its worst customers via a form letter (Srivastava 2007). This case reflects the experiences of several international companies in the automotive supply industry and provides you with an opportunity to enhance your knowledge about customer profitability. First, the case demonstrates the importance of customer profitability analysis. Second, the case enhances your ability to perform customer profitability analysis. Third, it helps you improve your critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills. Finally, the case enables you to integrate business knowledge across functional boundaries.

Abstract:
AbstractNew trends in crop breeding include analytical approaches to identify metabolic fingerprints that can be used for associations to the genetic background. The biochemical phenotype, as a result of plant endogenous factors and interaction with the environment, has the potential to increase the accuracy of forecasting regarding agronomical quality factors. In this study a metabolite profile analysis by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) was conducted on sets of seed material from sugar beet. One set represented high-performing varieties with a close genetic background and with a similar quality in terms of germination capacity. The second set contained seed lots from different genotypes comprising different germination capacities. By multivariate statistical analyses high variance in both sample sets was revealed. These data were further allocated to corresponding metabolite classes. It could be shown that an untargeted GC–MS approach has the power to resolve differences in the molecular phenotypes of related offspring lines. Metabolic profiles were found to correlate more to genotypic differences than to differences in the germination capacity.

Abstract:
Leptospirosis has been recognized as a major public health concern in Thailand following dramatic outbreaks. We analyzed human leptospirosis incidence between 2004 and 2014 in Mahasarakham province, Northeastern Thailand, in order to identify the agronomical and environmental factors likely to explain incidence at the level of 133 sub-districts and 1982 villages of the province. We performed general additive modeling (GAM) in order to take the spatial-temporal epidemiological dynamics into account. The results of GAM analyses showed that the average slope, population size, pig density, cow density and flood cover were significantly associated with leptospirosis occurrence in a district. Our results stress the importance of livestock favoring leptospirosis transmission to humans and suggest that prevention and control of leptospirosis need strong intersectoral collaboration between the public health, the livestock department and local communities. More specifically, such collaboration should integrate leptospirosis surveillance in both public and animal health for a better control of diseases in livestock while promoting public health prevention as encouraged by the One Health approach.

Abstract:
Some prior studies have investigated using analyses of financial statements to reveal companies’ financial health, but the usefulness of using such analyses to reveal the financial health of companies and possible presence of accounting irregularities in South African companies needed further investigation. This study examines whether users and compilers of financial statements believe that analysing financial statements can provide clear indications of companies’ financial health. The study was conducted by means of a structured questionnaire based on statements made by experts in the field of accounting and financial statement analysis. The results from 237 respondents show that the compilers and users of financial statements are convinced of the usefulness of financial statement analysis in evaluations of companies’ financial health. This suggests that close scrutiny of a company’s financial statements, with an attitude of scepticism, has the potential to reveal possible irregularities and raise red flags about unhealthy company practices.

Abstract:
Executive remuneration has been the subject of close scrutiny, huge public outcries and criticisms in the recent past in South Africa. This has invariably attracted unprecedented research interest across different sectors of the economy. Various studies on executive remuneration versus corporate performance have been conducted across South African companies with no finite consensus. This study joins the debate with the hope of reaching common understanding on the relationship between the two variables. The study seeks to investigate the relationship between CEO remuneration and company performance on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange Listed (JSE) Companies from 2010 to 2015. In particular, the focus of the study was to determine if these two constructs were correlated and aligned with the corporate governance principles. The study, employed a deductive methodological approach, based on a longitudinal, descriptive quantitative design. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the actively listed companies that met the prescribed criteria. Secondary data, sourced from McGregor BFA database was used for the study. Data analysis took an archival quantitative research approach. Regression and time series statistical analyses were performed on secondary data on CEO remuneration and company performance metrics. The findings confirmed the existence of a positive relationship between CEO remuneration and company performance in South Africa as hinted by previous studies

Abstract:
Marketing can be considered as the connection between consumers and the management in attempt to create profit for the company. The main purpose of the research is to analyze the marketing strategies of industrial producers and processors in Kosovo and to find out which are the best marketing strategies that will lead these companies toward the growth of their market share and profit. During the research the paper finds that most of the producers we have analyzed have of proper marketing strategies used toward the company growth, including entering new markets and/or developing new products. Companies, part of this research, think more about productivity than sales and marketing and they still didn’t make the distinction between marketing and sales. We find that the behavior of most companies is geared towards productivity and not so much towards marketing and marketing strategies. Of course productivity is important, but marketing strategies can help in increasing the market share and growth, which could directly result to additional productivity needs. We also find out that there seems to be little courage in entering and exploring new markets; investing in offering new products to the market; or improving the design and quality of the products; and/or adding value to the existing products. Their growth strategies in terms of the above are still undeveloped. Therefore, there should be continuous insistence of manufacturing companies to advance marketing department, creating a special unit of market research that will help them to develop new markets and new products and make their company profitable by taking a larger market share and benefiting from diversification and proliferation. The data for research was collected through a questionnaire in 30 food producer and processor companies in Kosovo. Firstly, data has been gathered and processed through Microsoft Excel and the same data then were processed through SPSS 2.0 cross tabulation with the aim of comparing company strategies used and for testing of hypothesis.

The relationship between corporate body without required number of members and general rules of representation of a legal entityThe point of this paper is to answer the question what are the consequences of representing the commercial company by a corporate body without the required number of members. The author analyses this problem considering the general rules of representation of Limited Liability Company and Joint-Stock Company. The Polish legal system does not contain clear regulation relating to consequences of acting in the name of the company without appropriate entitlement, that is why it is thought to be one of the most controversial problems in Polish corporation law. This paper contains critical analyses of different views formed in the doctrine and in the judicial practice and it is an attempt to solve the dilemma connected with companies’ relations with third parties, when the corporate body do not have the minimal required number of members.

Abstract:
Evaluation of genetic diversity within germplasm collections and identification of trait-specific germplasm is a basic requirement for plant breeders. A total of 221 Indian pearl millet collections from the National Genebank were characterised and evaluated for 27 agro-morphological descriptors. Considerable variation was observed for all characters. Frequency distribution analysis showed predominance of cylindrical and compact spike, grey seeds, earliness (less than 40 days to spike emergence). Hierarchical clustering method was used for classifying 221 pearl millet accessions based on agronomic and disease resistance traits, which resulted into three clusters. Clusters 1, 2 and 3 comprised 91, 54 and 76 accessions respectively. There was high correspondence between the geographic collection sites of accessions and their inclusion in particular clusters. In addition, principal component analysis was used for data reduction and generating biplot. First four principal components explained 66.43% of total variability. Among the traits analysed, plant height, nodes/plant, days to spike emergence, number of tillers, leaf width and leaf length are major contributor towards phenotypic diversity. Further the trait-specific germplasm were identified for agronomic traits, disease resistance, popping and antioxidants activity, namely for earliness (IC343664, IC343689, IC343661, IC309064), spike girth (IC283693, IC283842, IC367638), dual purpose with high grain and fodder yield (IC283705, IC283745, IC283885 and IC335901 and so on). Four accessions of pearl millet germplasm viz., IC309064, IC393365, IC306465 and IC283866, were observed as multiple disease resistant. This study suggested that application of appropriate techniques and their interpretations provide more efficient way to identify potential accessions and improve the utilisation of germplasm collections in plant breeding.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the nature of commitments of local employees to a parent company and a local operation in comparison to the nature of commitment of Western expatriates to the two foci. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected by questionnaire from 532 local employees and 471 Western expatriates currently working for the subsidiaries of multinational companies (MNCs) in Vietnam. Hypotheses were tested using exploratory factor analyses, confirmatory factor analyses, correlation analyses, t-test, generalized linear models and hierarchical regression. Findings – The results confirmed two distinct commitment foci and revealed that the commitment to the local operation was stronger than the commitment to the parent company for local employees. Remarkably, retention and absenteeism are more driven by local operation commitment than by parent company commitment for the local employees. In contrast, these outcomes are more driven by parent company commitment for the Western expatriates. Working conditions (job autonomy, job variety, transformational leadership and remuneration) positively predicted affective commitment to the local operation for both groups; particularly job variety and leadership were better predictors for local employees than for Western expatriates. Practical implications – The comparison shows effective and specific ways to sustain and reinforce the commitments of each employee group with regard to two foci. This information may help to reduce the rate of turnover intention and absenteeism in MNCs. Originality/value – By using a multifaceted approach, this study provided a comparison of dual organizational commitment for different categories of employees working in MNCs. Second, this study shows that the stronger commitment focus has a stronger influence on related outcomes (i.e. retention and absenteeism). If so, MNCs can focus on reinforcing the selected commitment focus in order to reduce the costs of management. Third, the study has initially pointed out that some work factors exert a specific influence on different commitment foci in the two groups. Controlling these work conditions is recommended to sustain and develop commitment levels of the two groups.

The overall purpose of the study is to analyse financial statements to determine the primary purpose of JSE listed companies in the food and drug retail sector. There were two parts to the analyses. First, the study examines the literature on the three models, namely: neoclassical, conscious capitalism and entity maximisation and sustainability in order to identify themes or major identifiers of each model. Second, it analyses the financial statements (over five years from 2010 to 2014) of JSE listed companies in the food and drug retail sector, in particular the non-financial information. The entire population was analysed as there were only four in the population, namely SPAR, Pick n Pay, Shoprite and Clicks. Annual integrated reports and sustainability reports (where separately published) were analysed using content analyses. Keywords and themes were used to link the attributes of the company to the attributes identified in the literature to determine the model the company used. The content analyses showed that the dominant model was the entity maximisation and sustainability model. However, each company appears to have chosen to focus on a different stakeholder: SPAR on employees, Pick n Pay on customers (with a differentiation strategy), Shoprite on customers (with a low cost strategy) and Clicks on shareholders.

Abstract:
Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) is widely cultivated across the world. Due to its symbiotic nitrogen fixation capability and many agronomically important traits, such as tolerance to low rainfall and low fertilization requirements, as well as its high nutrition and health benefits, cowpea is an important legume crop, especially in many semi-arid countries. However, research in Vigna unguiculata is dramatically hampered by the lack of mutant resources and efficient tools for gene inactivation in vivo. In this study, we used clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) and CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9). We applied the CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing technology to efficiently disrupt the representative symbiotic nitrogen fixation (SNF) gene in Vigna unguiculata. Our customized guide RNAs (gRNAs) targeting symbiosis receptor-like kinase (SYMRK) achieved ~67% mutagenic efficiency in hairy-root-transformed plants, and nodule formation was completely blocked in the mutants with both alleles disrupted. Various types of mutations were observed near the PAM region of the respective gRNA. These results demonstrate the applicability of the CRISPR/Cas9 system in Vigna unguiculata, and therefore should significantly stimulate functional genomics analyses of many important agronomical traits in this unique crop legume.

Abstract:
Climate change will affect mycotoxin contamination of feed and food. Mathematical models for predicting mycotoxin concentrations in cereal grains are useful for estimating the impact of climate change on these toxins. The objective of the current study was to construct a descriptive model to estimate climate change impacts on deoxynivalenol (DON) contamination of mature wheat grown in northwestern Europe. Observational data from 717 wheat fields in Norway, Sweden, Finland, and The Netherlands were analyzed, including the DON concentrations in mature wheat, agronomical practices, and local weather. Multiple regression analyses were conducted, and the best set of explanatory variables, mainly including weather factors, was selected. The final model included the following variables: flowering date, length of time between flowering and harvest, wheat resistance to Fusarium infection, and several climatic variables related to relative humidity, temperature, and rainfall during critical stages of wheat cultivation. The model accounted for 50% of the variance, which was sufficient to make this model useful for estimating the trends of climate change on DON contamination of wheat in northwestern Europe. Application of the model in possible climate change scenarios is illustrated.

Abstract:
Grafting is a widely utilized agronomical technique to improve yield, disease resistance, and quality of fruit and vegetables. This work aims to assess the effect of grafting and fruit ripening on the production, physico-chemical characteristics, and nutritional quality of fruit from Spanish local pepper landraces. Landraces “Cuerno,” “Sueca,” and “Valencia” were used as scions, and “NIBER®” as the rootstock. Two ripening stages of the fruits were sampled: green and red. Grafting improved the yield and marketable quality and did not negatively influence the physico-chemical and nutritional characteristics of the fruit. It was noteworthy that the bioactive compound contents and antioxidant capacity were more related to maturity stage and genotype, and red fruit had a higher antioxidant capacity than green fruit. However, in all the scions, grafting significantly enhanced lycopene content in both red and green fruit. Another important effect of grafting was the volatile compound composition evidenced by discriminant analyses, which was characterized for the first time in the fruit of these landraces. The rootstock and scion combination could be a way to improve not only the production, but also the fruit quality of peppers.

Abstract:
The Chinese chestnut (Castanea mollissima Bl.) is a woody nut crop with a high ecological value. Although many cultivars have been selected from natural seedlings, elite lines with comprehensive agronomic traits and characters remain rare. To explore genetic resources with aid of whole genome sequence will play important roles in modern breeding programs for chestnut. In this study, we generated a high-quality C. mollissima genome assembly by combining 90× Pacific Biosciences long read and 170× high-throughput chromosome conformation capture data. The assembly was 688.93 Mb in total, with a contig N50 of 2.83 Mb. Most of the assembled sequences (99.75%) were anchored onto 12 chromosomes, and 97.07% of the assemblies were accurately anchored and oriented. A total of 33,638 protein-coding genes were predicted in the C. mollissima genome. Comparative genomic and transcriptomic analyses provided insights into the genes expressed in specific tissues, as well as those associated with burr development in the Chinese chestnut. This highly contiguous assembly of the C. mollissima genome provides a valuable resource for studies aiming at identifying and characterizing agronomical-important traits, and will aid the design of breeding strategies to develop more focused, faster, and predictable improvement programs.

Recent studies in Accounting, Industrial Organizations and Finance often incorporate efficient market hypothesis in event studies. Event studies can be used to examine how changes in company environment affect corporate finance. However, using short-term stock prices to examine mean reversion may face a problem. Specifically, there is no evidence that changes in market values are unbiased estimates of changes in fundamentals. This study adopts program trading to test the mean reversion of an acquisition event (SPIL and ASE Group) between 2015 and 2016 in Taiwan. The results show that investors can use RSI spread and stock price deviation to make abnormal returns. In other words, investors can make profits based on technical analyses. Therefore, the evidence suggests that between 2015 and 2016, the security market in Taiwan did not fully meet the condition of a semi-strong form efficient market.

This paper analyses the economics of material management in the 7up Bottling Company, Benin for the duration (2011 – 2015) with a view of designing a process inventory. The specific objectives were to determine the level of efficiency and product improvement in material management, investigate whether the material management practice permit high stock turnover validation and to proffer useful suggestions on how to effectively manage the company materials. The variance analysis and Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) model were used to analyse the data collected. The results showed that the company spent a total of 118.8 million naira for production process and made a total sale of 395.84 million naira. This implies that the company optimises production by adopting the EOQ model into their production process and management. Based on these findings, the study recommends that optimal quantity and timing of material ordering in production process is a key to profit maximisation.

Abstract:
Management is one of the ancient activities. Managerial behaviour helped humans to become sociable creatures. The aims and roles of management have continually changed along with social and economic changes. Some management theories in the early literature interpret the managerial function as „to instruct” and „to control” subordinates. The manager – having the appropriate authority – unilaterally appoints the expected activities in accordance with the objectives of the organization and his/her own wish. Its form is the instruction or the command.Later, organizations and management theories defined the managerial function rather as the impact on the employees than (or instead of) a unilateral manifestation of will. These focus on collaboration and imitation instead of on obedience. These theories were based on the fact that the employees work hard to succeed in meeting organizational goals because they want to meet their own needs, desires and wishes.Today, management means being in a relationship with colleagues, effective and successful working methods and, last but not least, commitment and liability for the company. The responsibilities of directors are to estimate the employees’ competences and to apply the workforce expediently. In our opinion, the two most important questions of human resource management (HRM) will be:• the expectations made of the manager by the subordinates,• the expectations made of the subordinates by the manager. The expectations of management have continuously evolved along with the social, political and economical improvement. We consider the most important requirements will be the following:• the exploitation of employees’ abilities (especially the leaders’),• the exploitation of human resource,• aim-oriented leadership related to different management levels. The actual research covers only the examination of managerial requirements. We experienced that the expectations are affected by many factors starting with the fulfillment of a specific task to the social environment as a whole. Managements of the last century did not require such self-reliance, creativity and broad knowledge from their subordinates as they do today. Employees have to be able to adapt to new tasks, technology and methods; have to react quickly against the problems; and be loyal to the company and the manager. We plan to expand our research backwards as well, in which we will search for the answer what kind of expectations are formulated by subordinates on the manager. Thus, we can approach and reveal the expectations (the examined factors) from two sides.Due to this method, we would like to work out such coherences which can help us to demonstrate the opinions of the differently qualified employees of the organisations. The applied method provides us facilities to carry it out in various organisational parameters, such as functional form, size, effectiveness, range of activity.

Abstract:
Predicting the reliability of electronics is as much of an art as an exact science. There are too many factors, both controllable and uncontrollable, which can not be readily identified, quantified, or combined into an all-inclusive and deterministic equation. However, progress has been made to simplify the prediction process. McDonnell Aircraft Company (MCAIR) has developed a software tool (E-Life) which will predict the fatigue life of solder joints, component leads, and plates through holes. E-Life is also capable of identifying the critical components that require analysis, greatly simplifying life predictions. The results of complex finite element analyses of printed circuit assemblies (PCA) are an integral part of the software, but are transparent to the user. Thus, the time to perform an analysis is reduced and the probability of error is decreased. Experimental tests have been used to improve the accuracy of E-Life. Thermal, mechanical, and dynamic test results were used to obtain material properties previously unavailable. Test results were also used to validate the analytical models. When combined, E-Life and existing prediction techniques provide a more comprehensive reliability prediction process than was available in the past.

Abstract:
The article analyses the profiles of selected construction companies from the viewpoint of working capital formation and their management strategies applied to working capital. The analysis was performed on the basis of financial ratios. The conclusion is that complex working capital management requires controlling methodology to be developed. A specific character of the construction industry, including operational factors and market requirements, make working capital management a task exceeding the financial sphere, as it embraces the issues of organisation of investment processes, the organisation of production processes and logistics.
