Abstract:
Team handball is a highly dynamic sport where physical demands differ between categories and roles. Thus, physical characteristics are fundamental for the final performance. This study aims to (a) characterize a sample of young male and female elite team handball players with a non-athletic reference population; (b) to generate their 50%, 75%, and 95% percentiles of the bioelectrical variables. The study included 55 young elite team handball players (Males, n = 37, age = 17.0 ± 1.2 yrs, height = 185.8 ± 7.3 cm, weight = 82.0 ± 11.0 kg, body mass index (BMI) = 23.7 ± 2.5; Females, n = 18, age = 17.8 ± 0.9 yrs, height = 171.2 ± 6.4 cm, weight = 67.4 ± 7.2 kg, BMI = 23.0 ± 2.0). Height and bioelectrical variables were assessed in a state of euhydration and standard conditions. Bioelectrical impedance vector analysis (BIVA) was used to characterize the bioelectrical vector (BIA vector) distribution pattern for each group. Compared to the reference values, BIA vector showed statistically significant differences in males U17 (n = 19, T2 = 51.0, p < 0.0001), males U19 (n = 18, T2 = 82.0, p < 0.0001) and females U19 (n = 18, T2 = 85.8, p < 0.0001). Male groups were also bioelectrically different (T2 = 13.7, p = 0.0036). BIVA showed specific bioelectrical characteristics in young male and female elite handball players. This study provides an original data set of bioelectrical impedance reference values of young male and female elite team handball players. Our result might help to interpret individual bioimpedance vectors and define target regions for young handball players.

Abstract:
The development of men’s handball was analyzed using data from the Olympic, World and European Championships held within the last eight years. The most obvious change, especially within these last nine tournaments, was that men’s handball was played more dynamically and rapidly, both in attack and defense, especially by European teams. The first aim of this study was to conduct a technical analysis of current handball and to determine factors related to success in this sport discipline. The second aim was to compare the data of European Championships with other tournaments, considering the success of European teams in Men’s World Handball. The technical variables used to compare the tournaments included: the average number of attacks, the efficiency of attacks, the efficiency of goal throws, fast break goals per game, the efficiency of fast breaks, the efficiency of the goalkeeper, saves by the goalkeeper per game, number of turnovers per game, and the efficiency of position throws (wing, pivot, back court, break-through, fast break, and 7-meter). This technical analysis used cumulative statistics from the European Handball Federation and International Handball Federation. ANOVA revealed significant differences between the first eight teams in the European Championships and their counterparts in the other two tournaments (Olympics and World Championships) in terms of several technical variables. The results showed that the efficiency of fast break, pivot position and back court players affected the ranking in favor of the European teams in significant international tournaments.

Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this study was to characterize handball from a social network analysis perspective by analyzing 22 professional matches from the 2018 European Men's Handball Championship. Social network analysis has proven successful in the study of sports dynamics to investigate the interaction patterns of sport teams and the individual involvement of players. In handball, passing is crucial to establish an optimal position for throwing the ball into the goal of the opponent team. Moreover, different tactical formations are played during a game, often induced by two-minute suspensions or the addition of an offensive player replacing the goalkeeper as allowed by the International Handball Federation since 2016. Therefore, studying the interaction patterns of handball teams considering the different playing positions under various attack formations contributes to the tactical understanding of the sport. Degree and flow centrality as well as density and centralization values were computed. As a result, quantification of the contribution of individual players to the overall organization was achieved alongside the general balance in interplay. We identified the backcourt as the key players to structure interplay across tactical formations. While attack units without a goalkeeper were played longer, they were either more intensively structured around back positions (7 vs. 6) or spread out (5 + 1 vs. 6). We also found significant differences in the involvement of wing players across formations. The additional pivot in the 7 vs. 6 formation was mostly used to create space for back players and was less involved in interplay. Social network analysis turned out as a suitable method to govern and quantify team dynamics in handball.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction: Anthropometric and physical performance parameters that determine competitive levels in handball need to be carefully studied to identify which of them can bring the optimal contribution when the talents for this sport are selected. Objective: To identify which anthropometric and physical performance variables evaluated in the basic categories (infantile, under-15 and cadet, under-17) have the greatest influence on professional levels attained by male and female handball players throughout their sports careers. Method: A total of 145 handball players (75 males and 70 females) participated in the study. Participants were initially evaluated during the season 1998-99 and their performance levels were supervised until March 2013. The resulting data were classified according to the performance level (regional n = 109; national n = 36), gender, and category (infantile, cadet). Results: The MANCOVA analysis indicated that the player’s maturation stage is one of the main parameters to be accounted for when selecting the variables that should configure a talent detection model for handball, which is also conditioned by sex. Anthropometric variables are highly influential in the case of male players, while physical performance variables (squat jump, counter movement jump, counter movement jump with arm, 10x5m shuttle run, 20 m shuttle run, and VO2 max) have a similar effect in males and females. Conclusion: The study of changes occurring in anthropometric and physical performance variables may yield useful information to detect talents in handball, and maturation is a key factor to choose the most appropriate variables.

The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review of the scientific literature on handball match analysis and to identify potential research areas for future work. Data were collected from Web of Science, MEDLINE, SPORTDiscus, Scopus, EBSCO, and ProQuest databases. The initial search found 148 journal articles. Only the papers focused on handball match analysis regarding tactical and technical aspects were considered, for a final list of 25 publications. The complexity approach under which each considered publication was conducted was taken into account (i.e., static vs. dynamic). Therein, authors, main analysis, number of performance indicators under study, considered situational variables, statistics and/or analysis methods, type of competition, number of matches, and sex of participants were distinguished for classification purposes. Research on handball match analysis has evolved over the years, mainly due to the great technological advances. Studies conducted under the classical static complexity approach are the most extended. Studies performed under the relatively new dynamic complexity approach are growing. The present review identified the following main guidelines for future work on handball match analysis: conducting more studies focused on the defensive profile; analyzing handball national leagues and international club competitions; performing more studies in female handball; including game situational variables into the analysis (i.e., game type, match status, game location, quality of opposition, game period); incorporating critical events of the game into the analysis (e.g., team timeouts, exclusions); and, conducting further research from the promising dynamic complexity perspective.

Abstract:
Network analysis is used in a number of different fields to study systems ranging from molecular interactions to social interactions between humans. With the increase of available data, it is not surprising that network analysis methods are now used to analyze human behavior and interactions in sports. Handball is a popular sport in Europe, and while it has been studied, it has not been studied with network methods. In this work, passing data was collected from two international competitions to study the passing behavior of the Norwegian women’s handball team. The data were divided into multiple scenarios to try to explore how the team’s and individual players' playing styles depended on whether the team was leading, trailing, or scoring goals. Star players were also compared with their replacements to see if there was any statistical evidence available as to why the star players may be unique. We found differences between the star players and their replacements, some differences between the team’s passing behavior when leading and trailing and when scoring goals, and that the team appears to have a specific prescribed playing style for each position.

The collective sports have become object of scientific investigation in many knowledge areas. A lot of these studies need the development of methodology to quantify the analysis variables. The kinematical analysis of players by videogrammetry gives data about player¿s position in function of time and gives advantages, like the possibility to analyze lots of players simultaneously and the method is not invasive, so it can be applied in competitive situations. Recent works of development of methodology to automatic tracking of soccer players show good results to obtain their trajectories and calculate the covered distance and the velocity of each player. The aim of this work is to propose and evaluate a method of automatic tracking of handball players by videogrammetry and its application on an official game of the Regional Handball League. The specific aims of the work are: a) the specialization of the algorithms and qualify the automatic tracking system developed to soccer for the identification and automatic tracking of handball players; b) realize accuracy tests in controlled environment for the methodology validation; c) to obtain player¿s trajectories and calculate the covered distances and the velocities during the game. The results of the evaluation of the system were: systematic error (0,16 m), experimental standard deviation (0,08 m) and accuracy (0,18 m). For the image segmentation was obtained a processing rate of 2,7 fps and the step of blobs splitting increases in 25% the number of players regions identified in the image. For the tracking with two cameras the automatization of the system was evaluated in 75% (average) and an average value of 37 interventions of the researcher during the tracking. For the tracking with four cameras the automatization of the system was evaluated in 84% (average) and an average value of 15.8 interventions of the researcher during the tracking. About the application of the method of automatic tracking for a handball game it was possible to get all the players trajectories. Starting from the trajectories it was possible to calculate the covered distance and the velocity. The average of the covered distances by the players was 4631,6 ± 361,6 m. The distribution of the velocities of all players to 27 minutes of analysis was: stopped (4.2 ± 0,9 min); walking (16,5 ± 1 min); slow running (4,8 ± 0,6 min); fast running (1,2 ± 0,3 min); sprint (0,3 ± 0,1 min). It was developed and presented forms of data visualization, like: a) representation of trajectories in agreement to players¿ velocities; b) principal components analysis (PCA) of players¿ trajectories; c) development of two interfaces for kinematics data visualization. Therefore, many attempts to understand and teach handball have been reported in the literature, making it an interesting source of scientific observation. The aim of this work is to develop an analysis model of players and team handball to quantify the technical and tactical variables in real time. For this development, some steps were needed, such as: a) conducting a specific literature review of handball to identify main technical and tactical variables (offensive and defensive, individual and collective) that can be developed during the game, as well as offensive and defensive systems; b) mapping of relevant variables during a game (during the three phases of the game - offensive, defensive and transition) from semi-structured interviews with successful handball coaches; c) developing an analysis tool set that can be used for teaching purposes, from simulations of offensive and defensive schemes. The literature review showed a large number of technical and tactical variables of handball, and provided evidence for their analysis. The sample consisted of four internationally renowned coaches, and data were collected from semi-structured interview, that consisted of 18 questions. The data obtained in the interviews were tabulated and interpreted qualitatively, according to the technique of the Collective Subject Discourse (CSD). Analyses of the interviews allowed identifying factors to better understand the game dynamics, as well as identifying the technical-tactical variables relevant to the phases analysis, revealing the needs imposed in each phase. Abstract:
Price endings practices are investigated in the product category of luxury women handbags. In a first empirical analysis, different types of price endings and the determinants of their use by pricing managers are identified. In a second part, the results of two experiments measure customers’ perceptions of different facets of luxury and overall perceived luxury itself. In the last part, a conjoint analysis reveals customers’ preferences for odd price endings. The findings of this thesis challenge previous research on price endings practices, in that they show that well-know low-price, low-quality, low-prestige connotations typical of odd prices in a non-luxury context, might not subsist in a luxury environment, at least for the handbag product category and for an intermediate level of luxury

The methods of descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance and Pearson correlation were conducted to analyze the relationship between all attacking strategy and score in games. The major findings of this study were shown as follows: First, the results of attacking strategy were calculated and analyzed as follows: (1) With regard to comprehensive playing patterns of the handball offence, the successful shooting rate was 53%. The rate of total shooting amount was 74.7%, while the error rate was 25.3%. (2) Among all the attacking strategy, the winner team organized shooting was at a rate of 75.4%. Therefore, the tactics of handball was primarily based on team organization. (3) The patterns of successful goal shot rate were over 53%, which was arranged in order as bellow: counter-attack shooting, up-side-down shooting, shooting from the 7-metre penalty line, shooting over the goalie’s head, flying shooting and baseline shooting(right side, middle, left side) and the right wing shooting. Obviously, the closer the player to the 6-metre shooting line, the higher the success rate would be. (4) The lost of shooting is mostly due to the successful blocking the ball by goalkeeper. (5) Offensive mistake is mainly due to failed passes, followed by interception by the opponent. . Second, the results showed that among all attacking strategy, the left-side shooting, middle baseline shooting, right-wing outer line shooting, flying shooting, over goalie head shooting and kicking the ball violation reached sifgnificant differences (p<.05) Third, among all attacking strategy, counter-attack shooting, right-wing baseline shooting, center baseline shooting, penalty line shooting, flying shooting and the amount of shooting out of the court have a positive relationship to winning (p<.05). Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣師範大學<br>體育學系在職進修碩士班<br>91<br>The object of this study was to investigate the critical attack and defense skills that influenced the victory or defeat in intercollegiate men’s handball competitions, and to establish a regression formula to evaluate the victory or defeat in intercollegiate men’s handball competitions. In accordance to the Intercollegiate Handball Competitions of 1992 thru 1997, the difference of points gained and lost recorded from the men’s A and B groups, were used as criterion for the Mallows Cp and R-square regression analysis. Moreover, the cross validation was calculated from records of the men’s A and B group results at the “2000 South-East Asia Intercollegiate Handball Invitational Tournament” held at Shan-Tou University, and the “2002 Intercollegiate Handball Championship”. Fouls(V1), slow break fumbling(V2), fast break fumbling(V3), slow break block by the goal-keeper(V4), penalty throw blocked by the goal-keeper(V6), block by a court player(V7), field shooting(V8) and fast break shooting(V12) were chosen among 19 variables, obtaining an R-square of 0.6280(F=55.93, p<.05) and the following regression formula to evaluate victory or defeat in intercollegiate men’s handball competitions: y=5.76039-0.3416(V1)-0.69894(V2)-0.5666(V3)+0.7442(V4) +1.5003(V6)+0.5350(V7)-0.4910(V8)+0.5345(V12) The validation obtained was R2=0.5643, with an estimated standard error of 1.8203, and an external validity merely reduced by 0.0637. Consequently, the conclusion of this study was that the critical attack and defense skills that were chosen were the optimum combination. Furthermore, they possessed a good external validity and evaluation quality.

Abstract:
碩士<br>樹德科技大學<br>資訊工程系碩士班<br>101<br>Research purpose: To discuss and analyze difference of beach handball inflight between high and low velocity groups. Research method: Seven players with right handedness from a winner team of National High School Handball Championship and two players from a team winning the fifth place of College Cup were enrolled as subjects, with the age 18.2±0.8, height 177.9±4.6cm, weight 77.2±7.7kgs, and player history 7.6±1.9 years. Right upper arm, right wrist, and right palm of the players wore an inertial sensor, each of which containing a triaxial accelerometer with sampling speed 620Hz, to collect relative data and in coordination of high speed camera and speed sensor radar to serve for statistical analysis. Research results: (1) There is no significant difference in ball velocity of each player between wearing and not wearing the sensors, significance level =0.05. (2) Average ball velocity of players in high velocity group is higher than that of low velocity group no matter wearing or not wearing the sensors, with significant difference; (3) Resultant acceleration and triaxial total power of right wrists of the players in high velocity group are higher than that of low velocity group, with significant difference; (4) Z axis (in the direction of smash downwards) minimum acceleration and total power of right palms of players in high velocity group are higher than that of the low velocity group, with significant difference; (5) X axis (in the direction of the players’ bodies) maximum acceleration and total power of right palms of players’ in high velocity group are higher than that of low velocity group, with significant difference; (6) Players of both groups have 2 kinetic chain models which are right palm→right upper arm→right wrist and right upper arm→right palm→right wrist, respectively. Research conclusion: (1) Inertial sensors do not influence actions of the players much; (2) Players who have higher ball velocity apply more power to their right wrists; (3) When shooting, players of high velocity group focus on actions in the directions of Z axis of right palms and Z axis of right wrists, as well as emphasize flipping of right wrists and downward smash of right palms; (4) the kinetic chain right palm→right upper arm→right wrist emphasizes force application of right palms and right wrists, while the kinetic energy of right upper arm→right palm→right wrist passes from right upper arm through right palm to right wrist successively. Suggestion: (1) The inertial sensor system used in this study is impact is impact and capable of wireless transmission without influencing actions of the players. It can do dynamic detection in the unit of millisecond, which allows it to serve analysis on sport skills similar to this study. (2) After catching the ball, right palms of the players should be drawn backwards slightly, and then in coordination of right upper arms’ swing the right wrists follow instantly to draw an arc towards the direction of shooting as to strengthen the smash power of the right palms.

Abstract:
This essay asks when and how did early periodical advertisements identify or solicit consumers by gender? In response to this question, Barbara Benedict analyses the representations and self-representation of women medical practitioners (physicians and apothecaries) and the female body in handbills and newspaper advertisements from 1650 to 1751. It argues that the rough-and-tumble world of advertisement provided women with opportunities to capitalise on their gendered physicality, despite the social and gender prejudices this move entailed. Benedict illuminates how medical ads by women physicians occupy an ambiguous position as simultaneously participants in the public world, the printed marketplace, and as privileged or limited by their special connection to domesticity, and particularly to the body. Print, the essay concludes, enabled early female medical practitioners to compete in the medical marketplace.

Abstract:
Chapter 2 investigates the prosecution of ‘Professor’ Abraham Eastburn in 1919 as a means of exploring the interface between the law and the moral panic surrounding VD in early twentieth century Scotland that reached its peak during and immediately after the First World War. A detailed narrative of his background and practice, together with a content analysis of his posters and handbills, furnish valuable insights into the widespread and continuing recourse to unregistered healers and quack remedies. The failure of qualified practitioners and established therapies to meet the needs of those suffering from venereal infections is surveyed. Eastburn’s’ prosecution is then contextualised within the social politics shaping the creation of a nation-wide health system for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of VD, and the outlawing, under growing pressure from the medical profession, of all venereal advice and treatment by unqualified practitioners under the 1917 Venereal Disease Act..

Abstract:
This chapter outlines government concerns about the danger of insurrection in the early nineteenth century and fear of soldiers’ subversion and involvement on the side of radical revolution. It reviews the reality of these claims, analysing soldiers’ involvement in key events and incidents. These range through riots and protests in the 1790s, the distribution of radical handbills subverting troops, the Despard Conspiracy, Luddism, the Post War discontent of 1815-6, working-class drilling and the use of government spies, Peterloo, the Scottish revolt of 1820, the Cato Street Conspiracy, the Queen Caroline agitation, the Reform Crisis of 1831-2, and Chartism. The chapter concludes that whilst some threats were serious, British rank and file soldiers always obeyed officers and did their duty to Crown and country, so revolution was unlikely.

Abstract:
----- Developement and measurement of ballplayers’ motoric skills ----- Our research aimed to create a complex hardware-software system that can be used to determine the effectiveness of the technique in ball games, for example by measuring the throwing accuracy and throwing power of a handball player. Based on the shots taken from the front and side views, the speed and position of the ball can be calculated from the displacement of the moving object frame by frame using image analysis tools. We paid special attention to the cost-effective implementation of the device, and we considered it important to be easy to use during both installation and measurement. In addition to selecting the right hardware and software technologies, this is ensured by the fact that it does not require a separate hardware device to manage, as coaches or physical educators can access the system's services from their mobile devices. Ease of use was kept in mind during both installation and measurement. This technology deserves attention both from a methodological point of view and as a motivational tool, whether in training or school physical education classes. Considering the above considerations, we chose the Raspberry Pi 3B+ with a Raspberry Pi Camera V2 model and the ESP32 Cam as hardware components. The user interface is provided by a web application through which the system services can be accessed after a proper authentication process.
