The upward trend in the prevalence of childhood mental disorders observed in the UK over the previous two decades, together with UK’s poor performance in recent international comparisons of child well-being, has brought childhood social and emotional well-being (SEW) to the forefront of policy. Key to tackling this issue is to understand what causes SEW in childhood, what interventions are successful in improving it, and what are its late-life consequences. Abstract:
Significant discrepancies between the various published architectonic parcellations of the ventromedial and orbital frontal cortex of the human and the macaque monkey brains present a formidable obstacle for research directed at understanding the normal cognitive function of this region in the healthy brain and its involvement in a spectrum of psychiatric diseases. The present thesis addresses this problem by describing a revised parcellation of the ventromedial and orbital frontal cortex based upon quantitative measurements of cortical architectonic features which distinguish between spatiall

Abstract:
Background Individuals with methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) frequently present with psychiatric comorbidities with impulsive features. Little research has been conducted on comorbidity with impulsive features in MUD. Therefore, this cross-sectional study aimed to delineate comorbid disorders with impulsivity in adult patients with a primary diagnosis of MUD. Methods Participants with lifetime MUD were included. Well established measures screened for comorbid psychiatric disorders with impulsive features. Illness severity was measured by the Yale Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale

This research study was performed in an attempt to fill an apparent void regarding the relative utility and comprehensiveness of three published, theoretically-based, idiographic, initial assessment inventories: Integral Intake (II), Life-Style Introductory Interview (LI), and Multimodal Life History Inventory (MI). “Experts” -- defined as professors of counseling or psychology and licensed practitioners who have been practicing as counselors or psychologists for at least five years - read through the inventories and then evaluated them by responding to both (qualitative) open-ended questions

Abstract:
Stroke is a leading cause of disability for adults. Several studies confirm cognitive impairment in persons following stroke. Every stroke patient should have rapid access to cognitive screening and evaluation. In this study, Rasch analysis was used to determine the suitability of the telephone version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) in screening for cognitive impairment in persons with stroke. The specific objectives were to determine the range of difficulty represented by the items of the telephone version of the MMSE, to identify the hierarchy of item difficulty and to compare t

This study aims at determining the risk of psychosis in first- and second-generation migrants and exploring sources of variation.
Methods: A systematic review of population-based incidence studies of psychosis among first- and second-generation migrants was conducted. Descriptive and meta-analytic syntheses of identified studies were performed and sources of heterogeneity were examined.
Results: Nearly all migrant groups were at
