Abstract:
This paper extends the real options literature by discussing an investment problem, where a firm has to determine optimal investment timing and optimal capacity choice at the same time under conditions of irreversible investment expenditures and uncertainty in future demand. After the project is installed with a certain maximum capacity, this capacity is fixed as an upper boundary to the output and cannot be adjusted later on. It turns out that, in the framework of this once and for all decision, uncertainty in future demand leads to an increase in optimal installed capacity. But on the other

Hence if we can solve the problem with 'big enough' finite horizon such that the first decision remains optimal for longer than this finite horizon, then we identify the 'big enough' finite horizon as forecast horizon. Semiconductor manufacturing foundry is capital-intensive. Beyond the technology and manufacturing capability, the right and effective investment decision can enhance company’s competitiveness and the key of investment decision is higher capacity utilization in line with robust “demand forecast”. 博士
國立臺灣科技大學
工業管理系
98
The purpose of this dissertation is to develop models for demand forecasting and capacity planning (for cement and air passenger). The models were used to evaluate some scenarios related to planned capacity expansion to meet the future demand. This research is focus on using system dynamics modeling to determine the future behavior of demand. Two case studies had been utilized to forecast demand based on optimistic and pessimistic projections. In the first study, we established a model of the national demand consumption consisting of three main drivers such as

In addition, Taipower plans to decommission the Chinshan, Kuosheng and Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant respectively from 2018 to 2025. For these reasons, Taiwan government will spare no effort to promote renewable power generation. Due to the demand uncertainty, capacity planning is becoming more and more difficult. This study focuses on multiple periods, multiple product types, multiple machine types, and demand uncertainty capacity planning problem, and uses two approaches to solve the problem. The object function of the approaches is to minimize the backorder cost and machines purchasing cost. The first approach formulates the problem as stochastic programs. The model assumes there are several
