A theory is presented which accounts for a particular aspect of nonlinearity caused by the deviation of plume "particles" from their mean trajectory in three-dimensional, statistically homogeneous but anisotropic porous media under an exponential covariance of log hydraulic conductivities. Quasilinear expressions for the time-dependent nonlocal dispersivity and spatial covariance tensors of ensemble mean concentration are derived, as a function of time, variance σᵧ² of log hydraulic conductivity, degree of anisotropy, and flow direction. Though, the two project areas are geographically far apart, both are partly covered with volcanic rocks mainly consisting of basic and subordinate felsic rocks. The research was conducted in two countries; part I, the Ethiopian Project area located on the northwestern central Highlands of the Amhara regional state. It is characterized by rugged topography being situated on the western margin of the

The aim of this project was to study the leakage of CO2 in a Geological Carbon Sequestration (GCS) system. To define the GCS system, a tool that is known as an FEP database was used. FEPs are the features, processes and events that develop scenarios for the goal of the study. Combinations of these FEPs can produce thousands of scenarios. However, among all of these scenarios, some are more important than others for leakage. The FEPs that were used as scenario developers were the formation of the liquid flow, the salinity of the formation liquid, diffusion as a process for gas bubble transport

The analytical performance of laser ablation (LA) for multielemental determination of geological and biological samples has been investigated. In the present study, LA has been used for sample introduction in inductively coupled plasma sector field mass spectrometry (ICP-SFMS). Although LA can provide semi-quantitative results rapidly and easily, the calibration process still remains the "Achilles heel" of the technique. The major goal of this study has been to investigate the capabilities of LA-ICP-SFMS for qualitative and quantitative analysis of various solid materials. LA was used for anal

Carbon geosequestration (CGS) has been recognized as a strategic solution to prevent/counter the catastrophic consequences of climate change. However, despite recent cutting-edge technical research, predicting quantitative CO2 trapping in geological formations via capillary trapping is currently scarce. Moreover, several aspects of multiphase flow characteristics of CO2/brine/rock systems, that greatly impact carbon capture and containment security, require further investigations. Furthermore, combining carbon geosequestration with Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is an efficient and economically a

An investigation of the geological resources of the Southern Highlands was undertaken and over two hundred samples were collected and examined for possible use as stoneware ceramic ingredients. Thirty four of these samples were tested for possible use as clay body ingredients, while sixty five samples were selected for assessment as glaze ingredients. A wood fired kiln was built from firebricks produced from a local deposit of a white bauxite related material. Materials selected as a result of these tests were combined to create ceramic objects fired at stoneware temperatures. The most interes

<p>The need for tunnelling in Nepal, as in the Himalayan region in general, is enormous, particularly for hydropower development. Due to active tectonic movement and dynamic monsoon, the rock mass in the Himalaya is relatively weak and highly deformed, schistose, weathered and altered. Predicting rock mass quality, analyzing stress induced problems, in particular tunnel squeezing, and predicting inflow and leakage often have been found extremely difficult during planning stage. Considerable discrepancies have been found between predicted and actual rock mass conditions, resulting in significan

The study reported here, constitutes a full review of the major geological events that have influenced the morphological development of the southeast Queensland region. Most importantly, it provides evidence that the region’s physiography continues to be geologically ‘active’ and although earthquakes are presently few and of low magnitude, many past events and tectonic regimes continue to be strongly influential over drainage, morphology and topography. Southeast Queensland is typified by highland terrain of metasedimentary and igneous rocks that are parallel and close to younger, lowland coas
