Abstract:
Jungermannia doellingeri has alternatively been aligned with Harpanthaceae, Lophocoleaceae, Plagiochilaceae, and Lophoziaceae. Currently it is placed in a monogeneric family Chonecoleaceae of Jungermanniales suborder Lophocoleineae, as Chonecolea doellingeri. Maximum likelihood analyses of a chloroplast DNA rbcL-rps4 dataset of jungermannialean liverworts suggest a position of Chonecolea in Jungermanniales suborder Cephaloziineae and a synonymy of Chonecoleaceae and Cephaloziellaceae. The monospecific genus Rivulariella is not affiliated with Jungermanniaceae but related to Scapaniaceae s.l. (including Anastrophyllaceae and Lophoziaceae).

Abstract:
AbstractA new genus and new species of liverwort, Pseudoisotachis Váňa and Pseudoisotachis pocsii Váňa, is described from Marion Island, part of the Prince Edward Islands, a subantarctic archipelago situated in the Kerguelen Province of the southern Indian Ocean. Family placement of the new genus and species is uncertain due to absence of androecia, gynoecia and sporophytes; morphologically it is compared with some genera of Isotachidaceae and with the genus Orthocaulis of Anastrophyllaceae. The new species is described and illustrated.

Full text
Abstract:
Tetralophozia filiformis s.l. is known from a number of localities mostly in amphi-oceanic areas in Northern Hemisphere, including Atlantic Europe, amphi-Pacific Asia, South Siberia, and western North America. The newly obtained collections of this ‘species’ show strong variation in morphology of the taxon across amphi-Pacific Asia although connected by some ‘intergrading’ modifications. This implies the genetic diversity within this unit earlier recognized as a single taxon. Authors used molecular-genetic, morphological, and chorological methods to understand if the geographically correlated morphological variation also correlates with genetic differences and if it is possible to distinguish some additional taxa within the series of specimens originating from the various areas in amphi-Pacific Asia. It was found that Tetralophozia filiformis is a complex of at least three morphologically similar species, including one long forgotten name (Chandonanthus pusillus) that should be reinstated as separate species and one taxon (Tetralophozia sibirica) that should be described as new. Tetralophozia filiformis and Chandonanthus pusillus are lectotypified, and the new combination is provided for the latter. The three accepted taxa distinctly differ one from another in distribution patterns, preferable climate characteristics, and genetic distances, besides minor differentiations in morphology. The main morphological distinguishing features are the leaf cell size, height of undivided part in leaf lamina, and leaf dentation characteristics. Taking into account the robust correlation between the climate-based and molecular-genetic-based clusters, one more (fourth) taxon could be probably segregated from Tetralophozia filiformis.

Abstract:
Tetralophozia setiformis is a widespread species occurring usually without organs of sexual and asexual reproduction. Gemmae of Tetralophozia setiformis were observed for the second time in Russia and Eurasia in the Northern Urals, Komi Republic. They form compact masses over upper leaves. The compact masses consist largely (70 %) of immature gemmae. Description of gemmae and gemmiparous shoots from the Northern Urals and their comparison with those from the other known localities, namely British Columbia (Canada) and the Murmansk Region (European Russia) were carried out. The gemmiparous plants of T. setiformis from the Northern Urals have approximately the same width as plants without gemmae but they are shorter. The leaves of gemmiparous plants from the Northern Urals are similar to leaves of gemmiparous plants from British Columbia. The leaf shape in upper part of the gemmiparous shoots varies from the typical to ± modified from gemmae production. These leaf shape transitions include reduction of leaf size and lobe number from 4 to 2–3, suppression of development and disappearance of characteristic teeth at the base of sinus. Gemmae size (17 × 22 μm) of plants from the Northern Urals is within variability recorded for plants from the Murmansk Region and British Columbia.

Abstract:
Gymnocolea borealis is reported for the first time for Asia from Russia based on the morphological and subsequent molecular-genetic comparison of rbcL cpDNA sequence of the specimen from the Gydansky Peninsula, West Siberian Arctic. An extended morphological description, generalizing the species characters throughout its range, and data on its variation, differentiation and ecology, and photomicrographs are provided. The occurrence of G. borealis growing as separate shoots among dense mire vegetation makes it easy to overlook. Presently known isolated records of G. borealis support its disjunctive circumpolar distribution.
