This study describes the gross anatomical, histological and surface morphological features of the oropharynx and proximal oesophagus of the emu in order to address the scarcity of information on this region in this commercially important bird. AQPs are a class of small, hydrophobic, integral membrane proteins that are able to make the cell membrane 10 to 100 fold more permeable than the membranes lacking such channels.
